Hey what's up everybody. Pat Flynn here and thank you for joining me in episode 4 of SPI
TV. In this episode I'm going to give you 9 different things you can do to help give
you an immediate boost of energy before you start your next work session, so let's get
right to it. Number 1, you can wash the dishes. What? How does that matter. When you wash
but during that time you're getting and transitioning into work mode. It's really hard to jump into
your office, or in that seat and start working. Washing the dishes and getting stuff done
is going to help you. Trust me. It sounds so weird, but I got this tip from Yaro Starak
at Entrepreneurs-Journey.com, and it completely helps, and also "Happy wife, happy life."
Number 2, clear your workspace. Now in an ideal world before you left that workspace
it would be clean and clear of clutter, but if not, do that thing first, because there's
nothing more distracting then that little thing here, and that little thing there, and
subconsciously those things distract you from what you need to focus on. Make sure that
before you stop your next work session that you clean up, but if you're going into a work
session and things aren't clean, just do it. It works in the same way as washing the dishes.
It's going to clear your mind. It gets you so excited for what you're doing next. Number
3, you want to exercise. Go out for a walk just 10 minutes. If you have an Erg, which
is a rowing machine. Tim Ferriss talks about this. He gets on that before he starts writing
and doing stuff. I like to do some jumping jacks, some push ups. That's how I look jacked.
Not really. That's sad that I said that on this video, but that's okay. Do some sort
of exercise. I know Michael Hyatt, he likes to jump on
the trampoline that he has in his office. Move around a little bit. Do something. It's
going to get you pumped up then you can start your work mode. Make sure you move around
a little bit, and get your heart pumping before you use some of that brain power. All right
number 4, set a timer. They have this thing called the Pomodoro Technique where you set
your timer for 15 or 25 minutes, and that's the amount of time you work. It doesn't have
to be that, but the idea of setting a timer, and having it count down to when it hits zero
that will get your mind in that right mindset. It trains you where you've been trained over
time to respond to that count down timer. Set a timer for yourself, and that's good
because then you can stop working, take a break, maybe go on a little walk, or do some
jumping jacks, and then come back at it. It really does work, so set a timer for yourself.
Number 5, and this is a big one. You want to envision what the end looks like. When
you visualize what's going to happen after you do your work, chances are you're going
to get to that point, and you will actually have in your mind what it's going to be like,
and you will do what you need to do to make that happen. It's really important. What is
that reward that you have at the end of it? Maybe it's spending time with your kids. That's
what I think about when I work, because I want to spend as much time with my kids as
possible. I envision the end a complete job, but also what I get to do afterwards, and
that completely motivates me and stops me from all the distractions, because I know
that ever second I waste on Facebook, or Twitter, or whatever, is a second that I take away
from the work that I should do, and also the time I have with my kids.
Number 6. Read, or say an inspirational quote. It totally works that's why I include them
at the end of every episode. My favorite quote right now that should pump you up while watching
this video is, "You cannot build a reputation on what you're going to do." That should pump
you up. Number 7, listen to music that pumps you up. I don't care what kind of music it
is, but you're an athlete. You are putting your body in the state of mind, or mode where
you're going to get a lot of stuff done and do good work. Like athletes do, pump yourself
up with good music. For me, it's some hip hop, or I might even get into some flamenco
music. I know that sounds weird, but for some reason it totally pumps you up. Whatever pumps
you up, listen to it for 5 minutes before you get going. Maybe you can combine it with
number 1 and wash the dishes while listening to music and getting your juices going, and
flowing, and then that's how you can get stuff down right when you sit down. You turn it
off, and you're in that work mode that you need to be in.
Number 8, drink a glass of whatever before you get started, or drink a cup of coffee.
For me, coffee works really well. My work doesn't respond really well, but when she
gets a drink and clears her thought a little bit, totally. It works because we're all made
of whatever, and a lot of love coffee, and that helps stimulate us as well. Whatever
the case may be, get yourself a glass of water. Be hydrated because you cannot function when
you're dehydrated. Get a glass of water. Drink a cup of Joe. Number 9, to put all of this
together, whatever it is that works for you. Maybe it's all of the above, or maybe 1, do
the same thing every time. Keep track. Pay attention to what works for you, and then
keep doing that every time you're about to get into work mode. That's how you can establish
this habit, and how you can bust through those brick walls that are going to face you when
you're working, and how you can stay at the top of your game.
That's what it's all about. Those are the 9 things. You can pick your favorite. Start
with one. Let me know what you think, and if you have anything ... I wonder why my voice
did that? Do you have anything that you do to get yourself into productivity mode, and
work mode? Share here on the blog, or on YouTube, or if you're watching this on iTunes in the
video podcast, head on over to WatchSPI.TV and find episode 4. You can leave comments
there. Thank you so much. I can't read ... Or I can't read. I can't wait to read. That's
really weird, and you're probably not going to edit that out are you Kelly? No, you're
going to keep that in? Okay. I can read. That's how I'm able to do this right now, but I can't
wait to read what you have to share. Thanks so much. I'll see in episode 5 of SPI TV.
Thanks guys.
