why do people follow the rules I'm not
talking about the rules that keep people
morale and keep civilization functioning
I'm talking about the BS rules that hold
you back from truly living your most
extraordinary life I often hear from
drowning in student loan debt and the
reason for that if you really look is
because the things that make us
successful in life are not the same
things that are taught in schools have
you ever asked yourself the question why
does someone need to go to college
unless they're going specifically to
study something that requires a
certification like becoming a doctor or
a lawyer what is the point when you can
often learn these other things other
than being a doctor other than being a
lawyer other than things that require
specific certification you can often
learn the same exact thing that these
colleges teach usually for a hundred
times cheaper and if you learn from the
right sources usually the information
that you're learning is actually much
more up-to-date than what you learn in
old textbooks at college and what
actually is college at the essence you
take some teenagers and some people in
their early 20s and you put them
literally essentially inside of a bubble
for four or five years completely
protected from the outside world and
oftentimes what they learn in college is
completely irrelevant by the time they
actually finish college
think for yourself how much the world
has actually changed since June 29th
2007 when the very first iPhone was ever
first released even just a few years ago
think about how different the world was
without companies like Airbnb and uber
literally your only option with the taxi
if you go back just a few short years
and college lasts for four or five years
of someone's life so what happens to the
thousands of people who went deeply into
student loan debt to learn something
that is no longer relevant they learn an
inconvenient truth that their degree no
longer matters Google is one of the most
desirable companies to work at in the
entire world and they officially
announced recently that you no longer
need to have a college degree to work
for the company of Google and now at
Google about one in five people that
currently work for one of the most
desirable companies in
world no longer had any type of college
degree but I get it there's so much
pressure to be successful and your
family's pushing you to become a lawyer
or a doctor and if you don't become that
you suddenly become an embarrassment to
the family in the past that society
teaches you is get good grades in high
school to get into college get a good
GPA in college so you can go to grad
school get good grades in grad school so
you can take the LSAT and become a
lawyer and then what that's the last
step on the checklist and the craziest
part is that lawyers in America one out
of every two lawyers is clinically
depressed think about that for a second
why are kids killing themselves all the
way through high school college grad
school taking the LSAT all the while
going deeply into student loan debt to
get a job where one out of every two
people is clinically depressed and the
reason that none of this makes any sense
is because these goals are not from
within they're from society because
decades ago the only way out of poverty
and the only way out of a factory job
was to go to college and get higher
education but the problem is people
continue with these same mindsets and
these same rules when the world has
completely changed so the moral of this
video is question everything question
society's rules question the idea of
having to go to college in order to be
successful now that's the way that
everyone should be living their lives
and that doesn't mean becoming paranoid
I'm talking about healthy skepticism I'm
talking about questioning rules that you
don't understand or questioning rules
that are old and no longer applicable to
the modern world and that is the only
way that you can become extraordinary
