What Happens to Your Body When You Hit the Snooze Button

that you need to do to wake up feeling
like a millionaire and getting ready for
your day and feeling energized to hold
it because it starts in your mind and if
you feel energized and you feel ready to
tackle each day then you're able to get
so much more done and you're able to
have more productive days which of
course leads to a more happy and
fulfilled life and of course more wealth
because when you actually wake up and
hit the snooze button some very
important things happen in your brain
chemically that actually have a very
large effect on the rest of your day but
what most people don't actually know is
that this starts the night before
because what a lot of people do is
they'll be on their laptop or on their
phone or you know or watching TV and the
blue light that actually comes out of
your phone and out of your laptop
basically tells your brain no it's not
yet time to go to sleep right because
our brains didn't evolve you know for
iPhones and Technology and things like
that our brains evolved when there was
just the Sun and there was just the moon
right there was day and there was night
so having the blue light in your eyes on
when you're trying to go to sleep kind
of tells your brain that it's not yet
time to go to sleep have you ever laid
in your bed right and you feel like
you're just not tired at all
but then the next morning you're
exhausted oftentimes it's because of the
blue light and using your phone and
laptop within sixty minutes of going to
bed when you actually want to fall
asleep so let's get into detail exactly
why hitting that snooze button on your
alarm actually screws up your energy and
you know how you feel for the rest of
the day how deep sleep works is actually
REM so REM which stands for rapid eye
movement if you didn't know when you're
in REM sleep your eyes are actually
moving all around so if you you know
sleep with somebody like your husband or
wife or boyfriend or girlfriend or
whatever actually look at them while
they're sleeping and you'll see their
eyes are moving around it's actually
pretty creepy but the cool thing about
REM is that most of us sleep with REM
cycles about two or three a night and
after about two or three cycles our body
tells us that it's time to wake up right
so people who wake up naturally and
feeling rested right it's after those
two or three REM cycles their brain just
naturally wakes up it's their routine
right it's something called a circadian
rhythm so some people who just wake up
at the same time every single day no
alarm clock they wake up feeling
well-rested while people who actually
hit the snooze button what you're
telling your brain is okay it's time to
start another REM cycle and when you
start another REM cycle right and then
you try to force yourself to wake up
after 15 minutes you're in the middle of
that REM cycle and your brain is just
all thrown out of whack and you feel
exhausted you feel tired for the rest of
the day and this is called the sleep
inertia when you wake up in the middle
of a REM cycle and sleep inertia kicks
in it's been proven that it takes up to
four hours to take yourself out of that
sleep inertia state and when you're in
that four hour period to try to kind of
wake your brain up you have less
comprehension and you were less
productive than when you're not in that
state so what actually is the solution
to feeling more energized throughout the
day well we're gonna get to that in a
second but really quickly we want to

so if you find yourself waking up in the
middle of a REM cycle right in sleep
inertia there is a way out of this and
what you can do is take an ice cold
shower it's what Tony Robbins does in
his morning routine and it's actually
called shocking your nervous system so
when you take a nice cold shower it
shocks your nervous system you know it
gets so much run adrenaline pumping in
your blood and it tells your brain okay
you have to wake up you know kind of
like a fight-or-flight type of response
and it wakes you up but the best
solution starts the night before by not
using your phone or laptop sixty minutes
before you're ready to actually go to
sleep and then you won't have that
exposure to blue light which won't keep
you awake and tell your brain that it's
time to stay awake which means you can
go to bed a little bit earlier and then
the best thing you can do is to actually
get in the habit of having either two or
three 90-minute REM cycles per night
right and when you get into what's
called a circadian rhythm you go to bed
at the same time and you wake up at the
same time and then you have much more
energy throughout the entire day so if
