$50,000 In Loans To Full Time Online Entrepreneur In 8 Months (Chilling With Miles Beckler)

so we should be live yeah I got the live
what up I don't see any eyeballs yet
let's double check there we're all good
on the Groot I will live I can see
myself I think it's really a long long
delay though the group for this right
yeah people will catch up we'll get
questions like a minute thirty after
nobody's got questions alright we'll
sign off and there's like 500 questions
so hopefully um yes I'm gonna quit and
hey Ally
is it lagging for you we'll be good what
a stay off Facebook I'm pretending it's
not there there it is okay so I'll just
wait for it when I get on they're all
kind of um go through the the story of
how we got here alright guys so that no
leg okay
so we're good right guys if you don't
know who miles is I found him on YouTube
probably about a year ago now when I was
searching for a
clickfunnels really views so I'm cutting
that I went fans video to be honest and
we're gonna ask them some questions
about Facebook mainly there's probably
no Shopify stuff for this video we'll
try and keep that out of that because
Shopify you guys know about that anyway
but he does mainly leads and stuff that
have any leads questions me it's really
cheap leads and I'll start the first
question miles how did you get into
Facebook like what I know you did
SEO for your blog yeah what kind of what
kind of boogie to Facebook like yeah and
so I guess first let me address why we
started with SEO and it was a flat broke
I was fifty thousand dollars in student
loan debt I don't know if you understand
what student loan debt is as a Kiwi but
here in the United States they like to
label us with tens of thousands of
dollars for pieces of paper from
universities that mean nothing so we
started the business like bootstrapping
and s
was the only thing we could leverage our
energy because we had time and energy so
we went all in on SEO content for about
three years at that point we started
generating cash flow I had paid down my
debt and we were looking for what's the
next most advantageous way to reinvest
in our business because I'm a big fan of
not going after the Ferraris and not
increasing my lifestyle but reinvesting
back into my business because that's my
asset right this is gonna pay for my old
self and everything and it was in them
that I realized that Facebook Ads were a
worthy platform for me to go after the
learning curve was tough I tried to go
out at on my own for about I'd say like
a year almost before buying a couple of
courses and getting some coaching and
really kind of like learning what I was
doing because I was just flushing money
down the toilet but then seeing that
cost per lead and I'm just everything I
do is really functional around building
a list and to me Facebook Ads
like is a pretty quick way to run split
tests to really dial in messaging and
really really kind of get things working
I'm not all in on it i'm still i'm so
grateful we have that SEO content cuz
that stuff just it's it's really
powerful but as long as the game
continues to be fiscally viable for us
i'm buying as much traffic literally why
we were trying to get on here i was on
the other screen loading up new
campaigns my $5 facebook ad campaign
which works really well for Shopify so
I'll probably talk about that but um and
yeah now that was 2013 I started and in
2014 is when I got some guidance and
things just sort of taken off 30 40 cent
leads and I've done over a hundred
thousand leads on Facebook at this point
so you paid off fifty thousand dollars
with a day from search engine
optimization alone basically yeah that's
in prison yeah and we we've condensed it
down to about eight months just like
just I'm tired of this it's it's bad
debt it doesn't make me feel good like
boom so anyone listening to this right
now because I get a lot of people that
always contact me I'm in student dealing
I would we get student it here as well
my friend that's in about twenty five
dollars
and they were said how do i how do I get
rid of it well here you go guys this is
the prime example search engine
optimization you can use Facebook and
you've just got a it takes time like you
said it takes ignore took them around
about eight months and that's pretty
quick to be honest yeah that's actually
very quick so you know if you guys are
in did $5 Facebook heads equals
clickbait once I saw that I liked that
well they're saying that that's like
they're calling it bull they're calling
me out they're calling on the
five-dollar Facebook Ads idea and I
think we need to talk about that cuz
it's a really good way but on to real
quick touch about that debt my last debt
payment I paid over eight thousand
dollars in one month all my student
loans to wipe them all out so I increase
I increase it incrementally and at that
time I was doing WordPress design
services for people I was doing SEO
services I was running my wife's
business I was doing dozens of different
jobs for other people and what it was I
was just non-stop hustle like 12 15 16
hours a day I was doing work for anyone
who wanted work getting tons of
experience making twenty to fifty
dollars an hour and just 100% like I
have time to go out I didn't go out for
beers I didn't go out food nothing
literally it was work sleep debt pay
works and like once it was done all that
extra income just I had I got to put it
where I wanted to
I changed my life ever since then I've
had no I have this extra that doesn't go
to debt and it's like okay cool by house
do these other things reinvest in my
education it's powerful it's crazy
because life can get to the five dollar
heads and a second of these jokes I've
got some I've got a very strong opinion
on that as well but it's crazy like you
say you sacrificed and sucking on the
same sacrifice the last four years in my
life I want a friend's party drink they
go through drugs and whatever and and
and then now now I'm starting to reap
the rewards I've got some property and
my friends are only just starting to
realize that they need to change your
life but it's not too late for them but
they're stuck with but they don't
understand like we sacrifice for for a
particular reason and now yeah I just
think it's people understand some of
stuff that we sacrifice to get where we
are and get did
stuff like that and then you meet people
who are like oh you're so lucky and
you're like yo seriously lunge like now
you don't understand whatever the last
ten years I've been slipping through it
I think it's the willingness to delay
gratification and entrepreneurs who are
successful cultivate an ability to delay
gratification and I'm cool working right
now for something that's gonna pay out
in six months two years five years down
the line it's my whole YouTube brand
Ryan I'm not a pension anything like I'm
delaying gratification on all of that
like all something's gonna work way way
way in the future most people are
thinking a pint tonight is gonna make me
feel better right like I need instant
gratification and that's that's a huge
shift oh one of my own pictures of my
emails is cut as five of the $5 edge
that's how people you come you can start
a Facebook game with the price of a
coffee right yeah and they still go and
buy a coffee the next day and now
there's nothing wrong with that but they
think they'd understand that you can
just change things of life little things
like that increased our Facebook Ads
whatever stuff that's just crazy but um
I just want to go to the five dollar ads
real quick someone's in there or the
clickbait but five legs guys are for
testing and what miles doesn't what I do
we test with the five dollars and then
we upscale we don't just run these heads
on five dollars consistent when it's in
$20 we upscale we are still so I think
miles probably has a bit more experience
than someone else but there's just my
opinion we don't do it it's a weenus
yeah and my wife and I we just finished
up this little micro launch cycle and I
kind of stopped all my ads for my main
list because we were advertising this
kind of little product that just ended
yesterday so today I'm starting over
from scratch all my ads are off and I'm
ready to get a big bulk of ads going so
what I do is I set up one campaign and
then I set up one ad set and one ad and
then once that's up and live on Facebook
I go duplicate out my ad set over and
over and over and over again so it's one
campaign I end up with like 30 40 50 ad
sets each one at $5 a day and what that
does is it allows me to test interest a
versus interest B versus look like a
versus look like B versus my fanpage
audience versus my
people who have reached certain blog
posts of mine and I'm separating it out
so I can get data on what actually
produces customers and I look at my
costs for lead I'm always monitoring my
cost for lead and if I got a cost for
lead that's out of whack I turn that ad
set off but I want to find the ad sets
that bring me money and then after about
three four days or after I've spent as
much as I make rice let's say my average
values 50 dollars I could let it run for
up to 10 days till I spend 50 bucks
before I make a decision to turn it off
and if I get one sale and I'm break-even
at 10 days I let it go again if I've
made it to sales I start to
incrementally increase so I'm only
putting more money in where I've proven
to be able to get money out and I
eliminate the ones that prove they don't
give me money and the whole meanwhile
I'm growing my list grow in my list
growing my list it's really it's really
simple you just you just minimize the
risk on the front end and only put more
money in what's already proven to work
you know exactly I'm actually a question
here so I don't know you can see this
question right over laughing yeah oh
yeah wait wait duplicating well there's
overlap with the same reach so the over
that guys like it doesn't always happen
and what miles are saying is he kissing
distances and he turned off his losers
and he runs as winners and things don't
always overlap um but if they do you
just turn it off or just exclude another
thing and working out like you better
this way yeah and I don't exclude all of
them right so what I'm making this ad
set a I don't exclude ad sets BCDE I
just run ad set a and you're right
there's gonna be some people who like 15
pages and if they're on all of these so
one thing I exclude is when someone
engages with a post they are excluded so
the moment somebody likes it they
comment on it they do something with the
post they're removed from all of my
different ad sets so if they see my ad
on ad set a they click like and then ad
set BCDE moves them to an exclusion list
I don't really care who or what ad set
they get connected on another thing to
remember is that also on the conversion
based campaigns you're using Facebook's
like machine learning system
and that is based at the ad set level so
your conversions for one ad set don't
the information and the data for the
conversions from one ad set don't go to
the other ad sets so if I have one ad
set that a person buys on ad set a but
they for some reason didn't buy on ad
set be great I want as many conversions
and as I can on each ad set that's
converting because that seeds the
machine learning with more data so they
can then in turn bring me more customers
because they paint profiles of each one
of us and that's what we're trying to do
is find the ad sets and the individuals
who buy and then let Facebook go find
more of those people for us and this
really only works with conversion
campaigns and you need to be able to see
them with about 25 conversions per week
in order to see the Facebook machine
learning with enough data and to do that
I don't set my conversion pixel as my
customer sale I set my conversion pixel
as my opt-in so my goal is to get the
opt-in in the eyes of Facebook because
that's something happens hundreds of
times a day so I'm able to seed them
with good data so they can bring me more
people who are going to opt-in then is
my job right like mr. headline writer
mr. VSL writer it's my job to convert
those leads into sales I don't think
Facebook's algorithm play as much in my
actual back-end conversions so I monitor
and keep track of that all on my own but
that's a way to seed them with the most
information that's gonna get me value
and kind of minimize risk moving forward
yeah see so guys listen to me because
it's exactly how you should be running
your heads it's data it's data it's all
data their data what works what doesn't
cut scale cut scale and then many people
try to focus on it just not working for
them um or trying to go being out of the
gate and trying to like pile onto ad
sets and cool $300 a day and man
Facebook is gonna waste your money if
you put in big numbers like if I put in
$100 a day ad campaign on something that
was working really well and start at
that my cost per leads gonna be three
dollars four dollars per lead if I said
that same thing up as five dollars it
forces Facebook to
find me conversions for cheaper and
they're giving me out of the same
audience 30 40 50 cent leads and then as
I incrementally increase that Miley I
monitor that lead number and if it
starts to creep up I stop increasing it
and for you in Shopify it might be Add
to Cart right like I do 25 conversions
and not doing 25 sales can you do 25 add
to carts because then it's up to you you
gotta make sure your cart converts right
that ain't Facebook's problem if your
carts not converting or if they're
clicking on your sales page and nobody's
buying that's not Facebook's problem
like how's your wording how's your
layout on that sales page right you
gotta like there's conversion
optimization stuff that has to be done
in tandem did you know about the
Facebook update this week by the way the
FOB 50 plus conversions
oh really not so 50 and and that's
probably so the engineer there's that
Facebook auction live group I don't know
if you're familiar with that group where
they interview the engineer who actually
built and runs that system they haven't
dropped anything from there but he's
very specifically kind of on the older
videos was like minimum of 25 like he
made it he was like this is the like you
really you don't want to shoot for 25
you want to shoot for like hundreds and
that's why I do cost per lead so I can
do 100 leads a day for like 30 bucks 35
bucks right like 50 bucks a day that's
100 Li and that's plenty of information
for them and when I say I've got a
hundred thousand subscribers from them
you know price scrubbed 150 thousand
people off my list over the last four
years to rise so they're looking at who
doesn't engage you're out like it's just
filtering there I want to touch on
something because a lot of people always
say to me are Franklin um you know it's
five thumb doesn't work for this phone
doesn't fit a lot of people need to
realize it there's different objectives
so of leads you can do $5 tip dollars
because you can get tit you can get 50
100 leads a week out of their five or
ten dollars but for example if you guys
kissed on $5 purchase pixel that's fine
we need to have scale guys because
you're sitting there on purchase and
you're not getting the 50 plus a week
but you guys need to realize that each
should objective is different solely to
get tons of leads and to capture you get
tons of edit attached purchases you
don't technically get lots of purchases
that straight away so you have to work
with that so you want
maybe do a little bit of a bigger budget
but we're talking about mainly in this
stuff as leads so miles can go out there
and run these $5 $10 ads because he's
getting his 50 100 whatever plus a week
so he can run those $5 $10 fine without
any problems but I think what a lot of
people get confused with as leads antica
purchasers initiate Chicka all
completely different things guys and
each one has its own specific thing that
it does like obviously purchased isn't
going to get enough aesthetic touch so
you just going to click keep that and in
your mind I just won't talk about one
thing guys a lot of people haven't here
so I'll get some questions up in a
second but a lot of people like you know
people say to do PPE first and then go
to conversions guys again is changing a
little bit I don't do much of that now
but the reason I personally do PT
thirsted my Shopify stores pairs and I
don't really want to personify too much
but it's because you have a message
chance of going viral
okay that's really one of the main
reasons we just had an ad recently get
over 10 million views okay and it's
doing a hundred thousand dollars a month
that's awesome yeah right and the profit
isn't huge it's about 20% but guys
that's because that he came in viral all
right for didn't go viral like we're
getting we're getting cost for pennies
right now I'm purchases for pennies
because of the borrow ethics so TV isn't
always about clicks and data first one
of the points about the fact that you
throw viral because you're never really
going to go viral on a conclusion air
because that's not what they're for
sorry right just just touching on that
guys like the PPE think it's not always
about collecting data and the totally
the data you get from PPE does not roll
over when you start a new conversion
based campaign you ad set completely
starts the machine learning so they're
the seeding the or maturing or seasoning
the pixel idea like if you want to see
the engineer explain it himself it's the
Facebook auction live group there's the
first video he did where he interviewed
the engineer in Facebook who's like he
totally debunked that myth and there's
some fake gurus out there saying that's
the way to do it but you're right it's
about going viral
and when you have a product that has
that kind of like wow factor or you have
an ad I mean Chubby's shorts for example
you know like six million views on their
Mario Cart down Lombard Street in San
Francisco video like those kinds of
things can be valuable and Facebook will
get your ads in front of people who
engage and to help it go viral when you
use PPE
because Facebook wants to deliver you
what you're asking for right so if you
set it up saying I want conversions face
looks like cool here's conversions if
you like I want engagements face was
like cool these people engage will show
it to those people so it's really need
you need to be really specific about
what your goals are from the outset from
the outcome exactly I'm sorry at least
year that was a video that was 10
billion views on the video just so you
know um so yes so sorry there's a lot of
questions pumping up right now okay
China I tried to filter through the ones
that yeah well I saw one that all I'll
comment on so for me a lead is when
someone joins my list I'm not using
facebook lead ads I'm using just my
email opt-in when they opt-in and they
reached the next page that is where the
pixel fires with a custom conversion
that says a lead has occurred that page
for me is a one-time offer I have a
video sales letter that sells a product
on that page so every lead for me is an
email on my database and eyeballs on a
sales message and that's my whole goal
is I want the person in my database so I
can follow up and I wanted to look at a
sales message 1% of people buy I got a
up still after that and 30% of people
buy that and it's all about break-even
at this point and it just it's free
leads essentially once your breakeven
Shopify is a little bit different I get
that you got your margins to play with
too but once you find this audience
likes this product at a break-even level
great go get as many of those people as
you can as many of those customers and
then sell them more stuff right it's so
easy to make additional sales to people
who've already bought from you that
lifetime value is something you can
always play with and tweak with and
that's my whole goal is not to make
money on the Facebook app it's to get
leads and customers and then I make my
money on the back end I make my money on
sales from people who have been
following us for 2 3 4 years now because
we
the liver value to our customers I am on
the topic of that Shopify and lifetime
value it's all ugly we understand like
let's just say you have a store and
you're breaking even right for example
and you know that's not great but we say
you're breaking even guys you can
literally go out there and stuff
automatic email campaigns and you can
make back 20% you know you can make 20%
on the backend so a lot of people are
like frustrated they can't make a ton of
money on the front end but you can make
a lot of money in the back in guys so
it's not always about massive profits
from your store straight away yeah
whether you're retargeting your past
customers on Facebook whether you're
sending them emails giving them blog
posts how to use the thing they bought
like you gotta mix in the information
from time to time and there's a thank
yous and the goodwill content but then
like yeah just some more stuff like
people buy right like humans we're in
consumption beings like this say if I
was spending a thousand bucks today I'm
trouble spine I was making a thousand
bucks in return and right how's it even
and then at the end of they said email
campaign stuff at the end of 30 days I
turned that thousand dollar a day for
three times so I was making thirty
thousand into ninety thousand dollars a
month and it's possible guys don't even
look that and that's that delaying
gratification thing coming up again
right like Network now and hustle now
I'm like I'll make my money on the back
end yeah and then if guys if you are
making um you know 100% profit turns a
profit of the front any Shopify stores
then you've got an advantage because you
can soothe
beki and stuff you don't have to but
keep them and make way more money this
turn I just want to answer this question
real quick because I'm Wilson I just
want to know like what's your goal like
you have a brick-and-mortar store what's
your goal like do you are you trying to
get leads for first obviously we're
peers but like what are you repairing
you kind of need to think of you're
lucky you can preparing Xbox consoles
you appear in washing machines and
dryers so for example if you over
appearing washing machines and dryers
you're probably target did specific ages
so you know middle age maybe and then a
few other period consoles phones maybe
younger age so you just going to think
about your audience really in that case
and cozy in this situation I would go I
would recommend they go 100 percent on
Google and I would make sure you're
showing up on the Google map pack using
Google my business I would optimize the
bejeebers out of that cuz in in my
opinion solicit an iPad right or like an
electronics thing like if I have an
electronics thing in my house and it
breaks what am I gonna do user behavior
I'm gonna go to Facebook and look for a
recommendation hell now I'm going to
click I might actually where in my town
can someone fix my broken blank enter
and then what Google shows in the top
three with a map I'm gonna choose one of
those three because I trust Google so I
would be doing paid google ads for it
and I would do just a ton of keyword
research and I would absolutely dominate
the Google space and then I would do
content marketing to dominate the
organic SEO and I would like because I
think to me user behavior it it's it's a
Google based sale it's like the plumber
idea right like when your pipe breaks at
your house and water is leaking you
ain't got time for Facebook you are on
your phone dude you do Google I need a
plumber now it's one for our plumber
enter and whoever comes up with a number
one spot
boom phone done they're out they landed
the deal because they showed up in that
user search and you always gotta gotta
go back and so a lot of Shopify stuff is
