what's up just dug here and I'm gonna
tell you about the camera gear that I
use to shoot these videos and
photography and stuff like that so let
me start off by saying I've been into
cameras and interested in photography
remember having like a little point
shoot 35 millimeter cameras and then as
I started cutting grass and working and
had money to buy cameras I bought like I
think was a Canon Rebel 2000 back in
around the year 2000 or 2001 and you
know I paid for it with my own money and
I still have lenses from those days so
that said you probably realized I'm
using Canon gear since I do have Canon
lenses and I'm just used to using Canon
but I do have tons of other stuff and
I'll show you some of the things that
I'm using so first off you'll notice
that it's very well lit right now so I
will just sort of flip the camera around
here and show you there's these light
light boxes softbox is here and I didn't
upgrade to these lights for a long time
I thought they were too expensive but I
never really looked very closely and
what I have here I'll put links in the
description but these are like two 400
watt like softboxes it comes with a
little carrying case and it's great it
was only about 60 to 70 dollars when I
bought it
there's tons of others like that and you
can see it's quite bright it works
wonderfully and if I could give you any
tips lighting is so important if you
don't have lights like these that's
totally fine you can just sit in front
of a window and that'll have a similar
effect with like some soft lighting and
assuming you don't have the Sun Shine
you directly yeah so I can't remember
what brand these are but they're pretty
generic and there's a lot of different
brands that are roughly in that price
range they setup and teardown really
easily and I've even shot a few videos
at my office and I could just carry the
bag it's like a gym bag
sighs something like that maybe a little
bit longer but it's not very heavy very
portable so lighting is super important
let me talk about some of the camera
gear so before I get into the Canon of
stuff I recently picked up not too long
ago
ay-yi 4k action camera with the gimbal
and selfie stick and all that action in
there too so I'll turn on the gimbal and
you could see what it does so let me get
my head out of the frame so the gimbal
keeps this baby rock steady and it's
pretty amazing how dramatic the footage
is if you could have stable footage it's
it's really awesome so I wasn't sure if
I was gonna get the gimbal and then
after I kind of read some of the reviews
and stuff I was like yeah it's only an
extra little bit and the e 4k is much
cheaper than like a GoPro although
you'll see it's quite a similar size so
I do have the selfie stick as well which
is kind of helpful but really this
gimbal situation is really awesome
I got an accessory kit that has
different mounting scenarios and like a
harness and stuff like that for the e 4k
I don't use it a ton but I'm looking to
use it a little bit more the e 4k does
high speed like frame rates so I can
record I think it's it like 1080p which
is generally what I shoot at 1080p like
120 frames per second so I haven't used
it much but that is one thing where I'll
probably use it in this video where I
could shoot video the high frame rate so
I could run it back in slow motion just
to have a little bit more like b-roll
which I usually don't have most of my
early videos consisted of me sitting
right in front of my computer in a dimly
lit room and it was a little rough
alright so I'm gonna try and use the e
4k a little bit more and take advantage
of that awesome frame rate so let's get
into some of the Canon gear the lens
that I'm shooting on right now is a
sigma 18 to 35 f 1.8 so it's a
wide-angle very fast zoom lens you can
see how sharp I am
or anything in the like in the frame I'm
just gonna hold up one of the lenses and
you'll see that that's gonna be very
clear and then I'm out of focus back
here right so it really throws the back
room out of focus and it actually
focuses pretty quickly you could see how
well it works and I really like this
Sigma lens
I didn't realize Sigma had such high
quality lenses in their lineup but I was
always thinking like Sigma's worse for
the the cheaper off-brand and I always
saw crazy deals for him but this lens
wasn't cheap it was sort of comparable
but a little cheaper than the Canon I
think it's a 16 to 35 F 2.8 if you're
completely unfamiliar with lenses the
f-stop the speed aperture of the lens
allows more light to come in so you
could open it up wider the lower numbers
mean it opens up wider and a 2.8 is just
not as bright so when you open it up to
1.8 it really throws the background out
of focus I don't need as much lighting
in here in fact I could probably turn
off one of the two lights that I have
and it would still be okay the point is
this lens is really awesome now the one
downside is it's quite heavy the lens
that it replaced was a Canon 24
millimeter F 2.8 which was very small
and super light turns out my mom was
visiting and she was like hey I really
like this lens and I was like just keep
it just keep the lens and I'll find
something else or buy another one as I
started investigating I saw that this
zoom was out and picked it up like I
said it's pretty heavy but part of it is
because it's so well built and it is by
far like the highest quality lens at
half now let me tell you about some of
the other ones as I have here so this is
an old-school 50 millimeter F 1 point 8
I think and it is not the USM version so
and it's not the STM version so I really
can't use this for video effectively
because it makes a lot of noise when it
focuses so it's just it was made for
photography anyway this is great for
just sort of a mid-range the 50
millimeter on
aps style camera is gonna be I think
it's like an 85 or something like that
anyway you don't want to see me do this
math in my head but it's a great very
sharp lens it's quite light and if I'm
just gonna go run around I might use
this one this lens here I got with a kit
so the modern DSLR that I got was a
Canon t2i back in like 2011 and it came
with this lens right here which is an 18
to 135 and the f-stop is so much slower
lens where the heck is that written it
is in F 3 point 5 2 F 5 point 6 so it's
a much slower lens like most zoom lenses
are and it does have image stabilization
which does come in handy but this was
like this lens and the 50 that's what I
used for a very long time for a few
years and 18 to 135 gives you you know
generally wide-angle I think what we're
shooting on right now is an 18
millimeter and so this lens can go just
as wide but it doesn't have the depth of
field that the 1.8 has on the Signum so
this is a great just sort of versatile
lens so if I if I run from going down to
like Yellowstone for example and I want
to take some pictures there's gonna be
some landscapes maybe I get close to a
bison or you know some other animal and
I want to take a picture like a buck
then I could use this lens and zoom in
pretty well of course it's not like
ultra telephoto I'm not gonna be taking
a picture of a bear with it hopefully
because that means the bear is way too
close alright the other lens that I
picked up here was this is a canon and
we're back to Canada this is a 10 to 18
and it's much lighter it's much lighter
than the Sigma wider of course so this
is 10 to 18 that's an F 4.5 to 5.6 with
image stabilization the last two lenses
that I showed you we're both like STM
I can't remember I think it's like step
something motors I can't remember but
they do focus well and generally quietly
so I can shoot video with both of these
I got this ones here the 10 to 18 when
we started traveling a little bit out
west and I knew that I wanted to take
some nice wide angle like images and it
would be a great camera to walk around
generally light wide-angle sweet
photography if I'm gonna be taking
pictures of landscapes or whatever it's
just kind of I enjoy a wide angle I
really enjoy a wide angle so I picked
this one up a few years ago and for a
little while it was the only lens that I
was using for vlogging because of the
wide angle now the lens that I have on
on the camera now the 18 to 35 F 1.8 I
do I love like having the background out
of focus so you can see what I'm getting
closer like it just looks so much better
to me so that this lens here is sort of
the primary and with F 1.8 it generally
replaces like the prime lenses that I
had before
what else do I use so I'd have an iPhone
10 and I picked this up last year when
when they found that I had for a very
long time died I think I had an iPhone 6
that eventually bit the dust the battery
just wasn't working I had it for about
three years so I decided to upgrade to
this baby which is great I love it and
the camera is really excellent I mean
you can really tell the difference
between taking a picture with with this
camera and like my wife's you know she
has an iPhone 6s or something like that
we keep phones for a long time so I used
this pretty regularly just to take
pictures and stuff and for a stretch I
was shooting a decent amount of video
when I get the Sigma lens that opens up
so wide that actually can be something
you have to deal with because if you
open up the lens really wide it throws
the background out of focus which is
cool however the downside is if you're
outside for example and it's very bright
outside like a sunny day you're gonna be
over exposing just in general so I
bought these nd filters which is neutral
density and basically they
are just little filters little but there
are filters that have a different let's
see if we could focus on those that have
just a neutral density coloring on it
and it'll knock it down I think I have
to so at nd to and nd Ford and nd8 and
you can stack them on top of each other
and knock it down even more so I have
shot a couple of videos inside where I
had the lights on but I wanted to have
the background out of focus I want to
run this at 1.8 so I take advantage of
all that glass that I have on the camera
so I popped on like the ND 4 and then it
knocked it down to an appropriate level
of exposure so if you do get a very wide
lens you may need to do that sound is
very important too and the other day I
actually had the microphone off which
I'll show you in a second had the
microphone off of there and basically I
just picked up the camera recorded a
little bit and then put popped it on the
computer and it sounded like I was
yelling down a tube or something like
that and there was echo all over the
place now I'm actually in a not a very
good sound area so there's wood floor
there's a big glass sliding door over
here there's walls and surfaces all over
the place versus like a bedroom with
carpet and such so this room is pretty
echoey but the sound is OK
already the sound is not terrible the
reason why and I'll record actually I'll
pull some footage here while we're
hanging that's some of the other gear on
the e4 okay
so the microphone that I have and that I
primarily use for all the videos is a
shure lens hopper and I think when I
bought it it was about 200 bucks or so
but we'll put a link in the description
so you can check it out
but basically it works fantastic with
this camera that I have which is a canon
t7 I and the reason why I got the t7
eyes it has what they called dual pixel
autofocus so it allows like
really effective focusing so when I've
been moving stuff in front of the camera
here it'll focus on whatever is right
there and then it'll be able to refocus
on my face and it's just it works really
well and I'm very happy with how like I
guess smart the autofocus system is now
when I recorded some of my early videos
on the Canon t2i which like I said is
circa 2010 2011 it didn't have the dual
pixel autofocus I think it only shot in
720p I don't know if P goes in there but
it was a lower resolution it was pretty
darn good especially if you got lights
going on but if I moved around the focus
was like not great so some of my early
videos I would spend like 10 minutes
focusing I would like take pictures and
check and see how the focus was and then
I would turn the autofocus off turn it
over to manual focus and I would
literally like Mark where I was standing
on the floor with tape and I would not
move so I wave my arms around and stuff
but I wouldn't move so I'm gonna go in
with this me 4k I'm gonna start courting
here and show you the camera that we
have here and I see now that it's just
too darn bright so I'm gonna have to
shoot some b-roll a different way but
this is sort of the setup that we're
using here I have a couple other things
and just accessories and stuff like that
so tripods I have like one very cheap
tripod that I used to sometimes put a
small LED light on otherwise I sometimes
use it to hold my phone with this guy
which is a Manfrotto
a little smartphone and it has a little
grab with on there so I could just pop
pop it in like this and it holds it
really well so there's just a normal
tripod thread at the bottom and I could
put that you know wherever I have the
tripod that I'm using right now is a
slick that I got about 20 years ago
I said when I was getting into
photography and knew that I needed some
kind of tripod so I grabbed this one and
I'm shocked that it is not broken I
think I paid 50 or 60 bucks for it like
20 years ago which was a decent amount
of money for you know college kid but I
was like you know what this should last
it's a good brand blah blah blah and no
issues with it other than there was like
a little crank to raise and lower the
camera tripod zone and that that little
handle broke off it was plastic but it's
still operational I just have to like
lift the head of the tripod up and down
and it's basically good to go
another little gadget I got a while back
is a Joby Gorillapod which I got it
before I started vlogging or doing
anything so I've had this probably for
six years or so something like that five
years time goes by so fast so I don't
actually remember I've had it for a
while but you know what I don't like
these as much as everyone else I did try
and use it for vlogging a little bit but
these little these little pod things
they just like pop off if I ever tried
to set it up it would just like like
lose its balance and fall over because
they just move too easily so it is
effective for something much lighter
like a phone but I would never try and
use this with that lens because it's
just too heavy and it would fall over it
would it would not work so with that
particular lens I probably got to keep
it on it on an actual tripod that can
actually hold it bit steady I mean the
the gorilla pod is fine for phones maybe
point shoots if like the only time that
I could really use this is if I had like
the t7 high on here using like the 24
millimeter that Canon STM that I
mentioned before which is super small
super light and the balance would be
okay and this would potentially work but
yeah just in general the gorilla pods
are compromised and everything they're
versatile but they don't do anything
very well and in my case I'm just like
it hardly
hardly hold my phone up alright so just
do these just move around too too much
in my opinion maybe I have an older
version that it's not as good but anyway
this is another thing that he used I
think that covers most of my general
stuff I on a couple lenses I do have
like a polarizing filter on this 18 to
135 so for photography and stuff like
that
which I used this extensively for it was
great to like darken up the sky get rid
of some reflection and all the good
stuff that a circular polarizer will do
alright if you have any questions about
the gear that I have you know leave a
question in the comments and I'm always
upgrading gear to seem so every every
few months I'll start looking a little
bit more and I'll end up with a new lens
or a new tripod or some other little
gadget I like I like getting gear and
stuff like that so it's it's a perfect
fun way to collect gear and actually use
it I don't baby my gear too much and I
usually you know I'll throw these I'll
throw these lenses in a backpack and I'm
probably a little bit too rough on them
but I mean this stuff's made to be used
so I'd rather use it and not baby it
versus you know put it on a shelf and
not use it so anyway we'll catch next
time and do check out some of the vlog
footage I mainly talk about affiliate
marketing and other marketing ideas and
stuff like that that I do publish some
vlogs as well so do check those out I
use a combination of the gear here
