Content Marketing Web Traffic Review - Where Does Miles Beckler's Traffic (And Leads) Come From?

hey miles here miles Becca calm this
video is gonna review the results from
27 months of content marketing you're
gonna get to go behind the scenes in the
analytics from my youtube channel my
blog and my podcast and we're gonna go a
little deeper this time you're gonna see
something new that I've never shown in
these before which is the sources of
traffic for both the YouTube and the
blog seeking an understanding of where
the traffic's actually coming from
because that's really kind of helpful to
understand super quick recap if you're
not familiar with how I
started this
channel I started with a hundred and
twenty videos published in a hundred and
twenty consecutive days so that's four
months of one video per day every day
and then I shifted to three videos per
week and that's what I've been doing for
about two years since then a total of 23
months of three videos per month with
that said let's actually jump in and
kind of dig into the numbers so you can
see now I'm at seventy four thousand
nine hundred and seven subscribers we
could round that up to 75 thousand
subscribers which is amazing considering
just over two years ago I had zero which
is pretty fantastic also if you're
watching today on the 26th of November
the best cyber monday deals are still
available you got a couple hours left to
grab a great deal on a must-have tool so
you just watch that video there with
that said let's actually get into the
analytics itself so I'm gonna click on
the creator studio it's going to load
you see I have four hundred and forty
two videos total published I've maybe
deleted a handful of them so I've
probably actually published about 450
videos over the full course of this
channel and now we're gonna jump into
the last 28 days of data and essentially
YouTube shows 28 days and you can see
right here I'm down a little bit I've
got down about 5% on my view rate which
doesn't concern me
you can watch the last video where I've
been talking about how to ride out the
ups and downs
there's seasonality within every
business I'm just gonna carry on working
my path right working my plan just kind
of just keep going with what I'm doing
for three to five years plus that's
where I'm gonna get the big time results
my average view time is down 0.1 9% I'm
gonna call that even and then the number
of views is also down about 5% so
nothing drastic right like not not super
scary or not not a big change in
anyway but here's what I want to show
you is down here on the traffic sources
so I'm gonna click traffic sources and
this is just looking at the last 28 days
not the overall channel and what this
graph shows is that out of the 1 million
minutes that I've had viewed in the last
28 days which is an astounding number of
minutes to be honest here's where all of
that comes from so this first column is
the watch time in minutes that's the
million minutes broken up and this is
the views so I've had a hundred and
fifty thousand views and that is all
broken down here in the second column so
you can see that the actual YouTube
search so this is my keyword
optimization and my YouTube SEO
delivering traffic three hundred and
fifteen thousand minutes watched 52,000
minutes viewed it is by far my largest
source of traffic to my videos so this
goes to prove when when I'm when you
find my learn SEO video my keyword
research video or that keyword tool it's
30% off cyber monday today that I say is
a must-have tool for me this is where
you can see the actual result of just
that because the YouTube search is
delivering me traffic 100% based on my
keyword focused videos and my search
engine optimization I'll put links to my
keyword video and also to my SEO video
down below if you haven't watched those
it's really the big tutorial on how that
all works number two is the suggested
videos so this is when someone else is
watching a video let's say they found
some random video about keywords and
they're watching a video about keywords
and YouTube suggests my video either
after they finished watching that video
or it's on the right side on desktop or
laptop or it's a video listed below the
video when they're watching on mobile so
YouTube surrounds the video you're
watching with other suggestive videos
and those suggestive videos have brought
me in 26,000 views that's approximately
a thousand views a day right for a total
of two hundred fifty two thousand
minutes then the Browse feature which is
essentially the home screen that loads
on YouTube when people are just kind of
like hey what's new on YouTube will
suggest videos on the Browse feature
that gets me about 14% of my views 13%
of the views and
the external and then the channel pages
which is when somebody's actually on my
channel the external is actually people
watching my videos that are embedded on
my website and other websites so I find
that to be really interesting that that
breakdown that over 30 percent 30 to 34
percent of my visitors actually are
coming from a direct result of my search
engine optimization and then YouTube's
doing a lot of the legwork beyond that
the suggested videos the Browse features
and the channel pages that's all pretty
much coming directly from YouTube
themselves and they have the other
features in the playlists as well so
let's jump over to the blog now at this
point on the blog you can see I'm doing
the whole kind of cyber monday Black
Friday promotion so I've got a nice
little bump in my traffic here my
traffic numbers were down last month
let's see what they do month over month
now Google Analytics goes on a 30-day
window so it's 30 over 30 and you can
see here when it loads I'm down about
1.45 percent month-over-month so 19100
versus 19400 the number of users is up
about the equivalent amount so to me
that's just a wash right that that's
about even is where I'm at here there's
a lot to do with seasonality there's a
lot I don't really care about I'm still
working with my content team to publish
more optimized posts to my website and
this is you know a snapshot within a 5
to 10 year plan I'm barely getting
started in my personal terms I know I'm
gonna have to run with my blog for 5
years to 10 years to truly see the kinds
of results that I I really want to see
now let's go in on the left side we're
gonna go down to acquisition and we're
gonna go into all traffic and then we're
gonna go into source and medium and this
is gonna show where the traffic is
actually coming from on my site from
within Google so the number one place
that I'm getting traffic from is from
Google organic again this is keyword
research and search engine optimization
working together with my site to bring
me visitors from Google search results
right somebody goes in and searches how
do I learn SEO in 2018 and Google's
going to display my learn SEO page which
is essentially or suppost which is
essentially the same content from my
learn SEO video just reformatted here so
you can see I'm getting a
thousand plus visits per month from
Google directly so that means I'm
getting a couple of hundred about 250 or
so 265 visits per day every single day
from Google that's hands-off traffic
that will carry on for quite some time
I'm getting about 6,000 visits per month
or 200 per day on average from direct
which can be a essentially somebody
typing in directly my my url somebody
clicking through one of my emails
somebody clicking through someone else's
email if someone shares my content etc
then you see YouTube's referral I'm
actually up 16% from YouTube traffic and
I've got about 3,000 visits per month
coming in from YouTube which essentially
means I'm getting about a hundred visits
per day to my website now this traffic
even though the numbers are a lot
smaller this is where my most of my
leads are coming from because I have to
pop up on my website I've got my opt-in
page on my website I've got a lot of
calls to action throughout my content so
this is a better source of traffic
ultimately for me but I don't love the
process of writing so I've used YouTube
as my initiation mechanism to create the
content and then I refine it and
optimize it and get it laid out nice and
neat on my blog so it gets picked up by
Google so I can get that couple of
hundred visitors per day 250 260
visitors per day on average from Google
for people searching for answers to
their problems searching for solutions
searching for how to achieve their goals
my content pops up they click they watch
they read they see my pop-ups they see
my videos that are embedded
theoretically they fall in love with my
content subscribe to my list and that is
how I'm growing my platform finally we
have the podcast the internet marketing
and entrepreneurship with miles this is
essentially the mp3 files from my videos
that are ripped off
I don't do the videos from these types
of screen shares it's only the the
talking head videos that make it here
and you can see this month we've got
about five days left in the month and
I'm already at 6600 so my average is
about 200 views a day or listens and
downloads per day so that means I should
break into the 7,000 range again in not
in November so October and November have
both bumped up into the 7,000 downloads
in a
range that's kind of a new operating
range for me and you can see here August
and September were really close but
there has been a very perpetual creep up
in the Downloads per day which is great
because people are finding my podcast
they're listening when they're going to
the gym when they're commuting etc
essentially and then they subscribe and
they get the new ones when they come out
they download them they listen they're
able to get my content while they do
other things one of the big keys here
and you can see I'm now at about 80
thousand downloads lifetime one of the
big keys here that I want to remind you
of and this is the theory behind the
three pillar content marketing strategy
every individual has a different way
that they prefer to learn some people
love to reap their readers that that's
just how they learn when they read
something they really get it to other
people they lose their place when they
read they can't focus when they read
their mind wanders when they read and
they'd rather watch a video like this
here that you might be that might be you
for example right so maybe that that
visual audio-visual method of learning
is more your style well great I meet
those individuals on YouTube maybe
listening is your style because you
don't have much free time to sit down
and watch YouTube but you have time
because you're doing dishes and you're
doing laundry and you're washing the car
and you're walking the dog and you're
doing all those other things we all have
to do in life and you just do that with
earbuds in and you listen to the content
great I'm meeting those individuals on
my podcast feed and the individuals who
like to read I meet them on my blog it's
the same content it's my ideas being
syndicated out in three separate formats
so I can meet all of the different
learning styles where they are at and a
quick note I spent six months of doing
nothing but videos before I even built
my first opt-in page to grow my email
list I did my videos for a year straight
before ever working with a team to get
my video content into blog posts then I
went another six months just getting
that machine running and fine-tuned
before I ever turned on the podcast side
so it took me literally a year and a
half of effort to get all three of these
separate pillars firing this wasn't done
in a day Rome was not built in a day
brick by brick bird by bird is how we
build it so it's very slow it's a long
and you're seeing again the results in
the culmination of 27 months of very
consistent effort and that consistency
is what makes all the difference in the
world because at first my videos were
more than I can handle it was all the
time I had and then I got a little free
time I got better at the process I got
more comfortable so I added on the next
thing then I got comfortable with that
system and I added on the next thing
then I got comfortable with that and I
added on the next thing and that has
been the progress there so don't feel
like you need to get all of these going
at once start with your core content
creation method get that content out to
the world get comfortable with the
process I recommend a 90 day challenge
and then add on that next thing then add
on that next thing it's a long path but
when you get kind of momentum on your
side on the path it becomes fun when
you're giving value to others and you're
being helpful in the lives of others
with your content and they're loving
what you're doing and they're wanting
more and they're asking for your
recommendations and they're emailing you
saying hey I'm gonna buy this do you
have an affiliate link for that that's
how you know when you're doing this game
the game of internet marketing correctly
