DIY Sales Funnel Question & Answer Session With Landon Who Is Building A Funnel In The Yoga Niche



hey miles here miles Becker calm and in
this video I have a good friend Landon
slaughter here on the video chat with me
he's been going through the DIY sales
funnel video series and he's got some
questions and he thought that his
questions would be pertinent to you if
you're going through the DIY sales
funnel series so we're gonna answer his
questions live with you actually it's
not a live stream but I'm doing this
live haven't heard the questions don't
know what he's gonna throw at me I'm
running a new kind of setup I got a new
microphone I got a new camera so be
patient with our quality if there's any
hiccups or anything be patient we've
been fiddling with this setup for over
40 minutes to get it working um Landon
welcome thanks for joining
awesome miles hey thank you so much for
letting me be here jump in on the call
and yeah miles and I were talking I just
like he said I thought that it might be
helpful for his audience to know some of
the questions and everything that are
going through my mind because like he
said I'm in that whole DIY sales funnel
process and just stoked to dive in and
awesome so real quick give us the
60-second version of what you're doing
what you're creating and just a real
quick broad picture to catch people up
so they know kind of where we're at so
we can move forward from here perfect
yeah so on this whole online sales
funnel entrepreneur timeline right at
the very beginning you kind of have I
don't know what I'm selling and I'm just
barely installing WordPress and then you
have I'm about to start getting leads
and then you have I made my first sale
and it goes on from there well I'm right
at the point of just about to start
getting my first leads and most of my
questions revolve around kind of the
beautiful Frankenstein monster that is
thrive themes with member Mouse and
WordPress and I have a free giveaway so
it's a seven day course I am a yoga
instructor and so basically it's a seven
day course that targets their
my customer avatars 7 biggest kind of
problems and I just chunked it up into
seven different days and so naturally
with Aweber my email autoresponder
they're gonna get one every seven days
and that's kind of my my lead gen thing
my free giveaway to hopefully get people
on the list awesome so let's jump right
in what questions do you have about
getting us all working so you can run
traffic and get on to the fun stuff yes
all right so questions alright so here's
a pretty simple one in the email opt-in
when on the on actual squeeze page do
you typically do require name and email
or just email yeah good question here
you know conversions and whatnot yeah so
the kind of broad theory is the more
questions you ask the more fields for
them to enter the worse that it's going
to be and then the other side of that
coin is well if I get their name I can
personalize things and potentially get a
better open rate by sneaking their name
in the subject line or making it feel
more personalized I really think that
we're in the day an age where everyone
realizes there's these automatic scripts
that pull our name in the emails so I
don't think it's worth the potential
lower conversions personally on my list
and on Melanie's big list we don't
collect the name at this point we only
do email and I just start emails hey
there hey again hey it's miles you know
just kind of really chatty and if you
think about it my goal is always to have
it feel like I'm emailing a friend like
I'm emailing you but I'm broadcasting
out to my whole list and like I don't
usually email you like hello there

right it's like yo man right so I try to
keep it in that that kind of world of
super easy and functional in that sense
cool gotcha yeah that's um that's what I
kind of was feeling like you know what
the less steps the better and so cool
alright so I will definitely just kind
of leave the whole make your name
required thing out of it
next question for you is this has to do
with kind of the user experience
floo as somebody comes to my landing
page so they come to the landing page
and then do you they enter their email
and then do you typically have them go
directly to the first video because in
my case they're gonna watch a video
right they're gonna watch it on a one of
the seven day course
so do you typically have them go to the
content itself right right
so or have them it's like they go to a
page where it's like you know hey now go
check your email box right so I got two
answers one is how we're running it with
Melanie site and the other is how I'm
running it with Melanie site they go to
a one-time offer so the page after when
they opt-in it's actually an offer to
purchase a product but as you said
earlier you're just setting up your
opt-in so you don't have that if you
know of a product you could promote as
an affiliate that's a really really good
product and you actually would get
behind it and kind of put your name on
it you can do what's called a bridge
page in that position and the headline
says you know just wait a minute or like
give us a minute I'm gonna email you
your access real quick watch this video
and it's a video of you promoting
literally this product with a button
below that says go get that product now
if you don't want to do that which I
don't do that personally I send them to
a confirmation required page and I make
them go double up double confirm double
yeah double opt-in I just say hey look I
just sent you an email and you need to
go click on that email in order to get
access to what I sent you and it'll be
instantly delivered once you do that
because I'm I just want to make sure
people aren't sending me like Bill Gates
at gmail.com or some random addresses to
get those videos so I do make them jump
through an extra loop I'm probably I
mean I definitely have data on hundreds
and hundreds of people who haven't
double opted in but like let's be real
if you're not willing to double opt-in
for my content like I'm okay with you
you're probably not going to take other
actions later so it's okay for me to
kind of remove the tire kickers in that
sort of a situation okay cool
perfect this may have already answered
my next question then so about these
whole tire kickers now you
but here's the question but then the
backup behind it is because I mean I
want to I want to think I'm special I'm
unique because I'm given so much value
and everything but really I mean like
let's call a spade a spade it's it's a
free thing you could get them to the
next step to the next step it's its
value anyways
would you ever consider a situation
where you would have your initial leads
going directly in to member Mouse and
the reason I'm asking this is do as I'm
giving away a course right right right
like it's a kind of a course setup thing
with with member mouse and you know
thrive apprentice right so totally so
that I mean that's how I run mine on if
you go to the Miles Becker comm forward
slash Millions opt-in it's a seven step
process that I think is nine pages and I
actually tied it in with my plugin that
gives them access so they get a username
they get a password and I have a five
minute delay in there again I'm actually
putting friction in this process since I
don't sell anything I really want to
have people on my list who are actually
like real people and they're truly
interested and then I think what you're
getting at is like are we increasing the
perceived value of this freebie by
making them be able to opt-in or making
them go use their username and password
to get it and I think we are and that's
why I set it up like that I didn't use
apprentice online just for ease I just
set each one up as a page and at the
bottom I put this little navigation to
where when you're on like page one when
you read the bottom it says like go to
the next and then page two is clickable
but pages it says page three four five
six seven but you don't get to click
those until you get to the next page
into the next page so I kind of like
manually built the apprentice thing and
like I don't really know why I did it
that way I was just lazy I put up all
the pages then I was like oh I got it
like time together and it was almost
like a hindsight so doing the apprentice
might actually be easier I think it
would look a lot cleaner than what I did
but yeah like I think there is some
pursuit value and you're giving them a
taste of like okay so here's my free
stuff if you win you do offer them
something to purchase they're gonna have
an experience with how you deliver paid
stuff or at least like valuable stuff
and I do think that that's gonna have a
better long-term of
and building the trust in helping them
be more willing to pull out their credit
card
awesome yeah that's a kind of the next
thing I was going towards is the
psychology question of you're kind of
conditioning folks right from the get-go
you know with with my stuff I'm
obviously offering multi-day courses
multi video courses and so if they
already understand that they have to log
in to get the free course then they're
gonna also have to it's kind of like one
less hurdle they have to go through
before they buy and so we're kind of
removing we're putting a little friction
now in to help remove friction later
when they're closer to buying so that's
kind of the trade-off totally and you
can also add like once you have a
product available you can add that on
the last page at the last part be like
you know congratulations you actually
made it through the bootcamp or whatever
you're calling it most people don't make
it through all seven days right most
people sign up and they actually don't
get there but since you made it to the
end I want to give you a special deal
you can get my $97 course right now for
twenty seven bucks and they feel
rewarded you're happy because you know
seven days later you're making your
money back on that sale you can do a
one-time offer before if you want you
can kind of like re offer it but it's a
way to make them feel special and like
those are your most ambitious people
right they got in they actually watched
the seven videos and you can like call
them to action to you know want more did
you like this let's take it further I've
got something to go there and it's
another great way to tie that in pretty
easily gotcha gotcha this is this
question is on my list but it sparked
something you said about a so they enter
their info and then you said you do a
two different ways right one is they go
straight to an OTO or the other way is
you get they start getting pushed
through the content so have you messed
with and again a lot of the answer to
some of this stuff that I'm asking is
obviously kind of a be testing right
does it work does it work this way but
so they give me the email address and
then they go to the OTO or have you
tried something where email address and
then kind of an entry-level $27 product
and then they get hit with an OTO after
that as the one-click upsell if that's
the OTO
yeah yeah and like in that situation
your $27.00 product is your oto your oto
is simply a one-time offer it's a
one-time special offer on something that
you don't normally offer we've tested
all kinds of ways and I want to and that
that's one of the big things I'm testing
all the time I think testing that that
initial offer and the reason is if you
wait until like day three in your
autoresponder and you put your offer in
there you might be getting a 30 percent
open rate on that email right 28 to 40
if you're kicking ass you're getting
like a 50 percent opt-in rate which
means like half to like two-thirds or
more of the people aren't actually
seeing your offer but a hundred percent
of people who often see the thank you
page for the optic in so you're you're
literally just getting more eyeballs on
your offers and it doesn't matter if
you're doing like something small or
something big you just got to kind of
like find that balance because there's
two goals with an OTO obviously number
one is to liquidate your ad spend but
the other one is to grow your customer
list because it's easier to sell more to
customers down the line even if they
bought a one dollar trial or a seven
dollar ebook from you so you want to
find that balance where you're getting
enough money back but you're also
growing the list if you have like a 997
dollar
oh do and you sold it to one in 20,000
people it might be more profitable but
your customer list is like growing so
slow that maybe selling something for 47
dollars and getting more members or more
customers on that list and maybe not
making as much I don't think you'd ever
sell a nine 99-97 OTO in the yoga niche
but you get what I'm saying right just a
big broad example to make a really clear
picture and that is where it's testing
and you're just you're not always
testing for the ROI you're also really
testing a lot of like okay how big is my
customers growing what's the response of
this and so we've done price discovery
and it's usually like a middle ground
right I've tested twenty seven forty
seven sixty seven and ninety seven and
that forty seven range seems to have a
really good balance but what I want to
do now is I'm actually thinking about
putting like a seven dollar ebook in
place and see if I can test something
that's really small and then link to
one-click upsells in a row which are
currently what I'm doing is in my oto
now be
of one-click upsell my one-click upsell
becomes the second one-click upsell and
I just want to throw a little $7 thing
in in first to see if I can increase my
conversion rates more to get more people
in my list and theoretically make all my
money on those one-click upsells behind
and that's you know we have the benefit
of we've been creating little info
products for nine years
so we've got all these I can just go
grab a product off the shelf and an
orient it differently so but when you're
starting out I think just coming up
coming with like a core offer like a
core product you know ninety seven to
one ninety seven is a really good price
and then be willing to offer it for like
twenty seven to forty seven in your
one-time offer slot
you'll still sell them at full price in
the future but you're just offering
those ambitious people an opportunity to
get it right then and there
okay cool perfect what else you got for
me next question okay
so about the whole learning management
system lms and weird acronym back in you
know for be it you know if you're gonna
use thrive apprentice or right you make
your own or whatever I have a so I have
a vision right and the vision is they
they login to their my courses or right
when they log in you know be it they're
a lead or be it they've actually bought
a course or two well you know the vision
is that they log in and they see their
course that is free or they're bought
one but then underneath that they see
the other ones grayed out one right
better leg oh what's this and then
obviously you click on that and you go
straight to the specific sales letter
video sales letter for that course or
whatever it may be
how easy is it to create that in the
thrive apprentice back in so it's it's
actually relatively easy but I want I
want to like reel you in a little bit
and you're definitely thinking about
step 362 and you're on step 4 yeah
totally like your your thing like when I
get to the very top of the staircase it
was like dog you're on the ground floor
so but with that like you can and what
it is is you're setting them up as like
you set up
products in the categories and you use a
certain image if they're logged in and
they don't have access and if they're
logged in and they do have access and
then there's a way to customize the you
don't have access to this page per
product and you turn that instead of
saying like you don't have access click
here to login you literally throw them
into a sales message and you just change
that page around if I were to do that I
would be hiring out someone to actually
do that I would make my grayed out
images I would make my pages and do all
the laying out but I would pay someone
to weave that together for me
because if you do it wrong it's gonna
create a really bad user experience but
doing it right is obviously you know it
can increase conversions and the guy I
would recommend is dave at integrate
procom he does all my kind of
fancy-pants technical back-end stuff
he's you know he's got a fair price I
think is like 70 or 80 dollars an hour
but the other people in his space I
talked to were like 150 200 dollars an
hour and he's really fast and he's super
efficient he writes like little scripts
to do fancy when it doesn't do by
default what I want it to do so I would
definitely reinvest profits in something
like that once you've kind of proven the
the first few steps because key for you
right now is grow your list because
whether they buy your product or another
product or like you become a Lululemon
affiliate or whatever that is you know
it could go so many directions the real
trick is grow your audience and build a
relationship with said audience and then
you can kind of follow the path where it
leads over time cool cool awesome ok and
the next question is moving into because
I'm gonna have this up and running and
everything and the next thing is ok well
drive traffic to the landing page yep
and so just what just curious to know
what your thoughts would be on since I
have a seven-day course putting together

dude sorry my framed paintings that I
bought in Bali and I brought these
canvases back are ready to get picked up
I'm putting that in airplane mode poor
form for me go ahead sir I'm back sorry
about that mine off as well right I got
the reminder so yeah looking to take my
seven day course and promote that on
Facebook drive traffic to the landing
page so I'm curious to know what your
thoughts are would be about doing a
little carousel ad and then each one of
those like each day yes day one this day
two so they can like it's almost like
they're flipping through the catalogue I
think that's a brilliant idea it's like
this I here's how I would do it though
right carousel add video add image add
and I would test them all against each
other and if you put all three in one
add set and it's not displaying all
three which Facebook does all the time
do one add set per add type yeah right
so like so you'd have like Lululemon
would go to your carousel add and then
like Gaiam TV would go to your video add
and and you want to make sure they're
all kind of like the same level of
relevance but like that way you force
all of your budget even if it's five
bucks for that day all five is gonna get
spent on that one ad and then you're
gonna see numbers and then you have to
test your numbers then you've rotated up
and you put that one ad in those other
ones and see if your numbers duplicate
out and then that's a way for you to
kind of like really quickly dial things
in but the one big thing for me in a lot
of our ads is that really long topkapi
that like that tells a story and engages
them about how yoga can benefit their
life because when they read that story
they connect with you like it builds
that so but they almost like get more
sold clicking that more and read more
button and going through your story and
your ad copy to where when they actually
click over they've already made the
decision to get what you want it's more
of just a technicality for them to enter
their email to get what they want at
that point and if you want if you don't
have an OT oh you could also test a lead
ad which is where they enter it
auto-populates their email address right
there on Facebook but you don't get to
really show them anything after they
just enter it the one thing is there's
sometimes a disconnect from when they
enter their information in Ali dad until
when they actually go get your emails
they're like why is this due to emailing
me where did this come from
because there's there's a little
disconnect from the facebook lead add
pop up but it's worthy of testing
because some different niches respond
differently our ladies who are kind of
older they didn't it didn't vibe with
them they were just like unsubscribe
spam it was like why am I getting so
many spam complaints and I kind of
identified it was actually that ad type
they didn't they never went to our
website they didn't really have that
moment on a skate on our web site to
like feel the purple and like they
didn't meet Melanie in that sense there
so that's why we don't run them but for
some niches it works really well
especially we know I'm an oto if you
have an oto don't do it because you
don't they don't see your Thank You page
yeah okay understand and another
technical question within that obviously
you said three different you know the a
video a picture the carousel you know
the things you're doing might belong
coffee and everything I would do the
same copy on all three of those to start
exact same copyright cuz you don't want
two variables in there so the only
variable is that imagery and the imagery
is what really catches us well so videos
what I'm calling that imagery right but
like you'd want the same copy for each
of those because if you have a different
copy in each one and a different thing
how would you know on the carousel ad if
it was exactly exactly so so I would
limit it and I would start with the big
imagery first because that that really
is what either captures people or it
doesn't but I think the seven-day cares
a lot idea is I mean to me that that's
got a really good chance of working but
I've been humbled by my ideas before so
obviously testing yeah right like like
we said earlier you know like the
solution is just like a bee test or just
right okay um what else come on who do
some hard ones man have you cited so
I've seen a decent amount of your
content but maybe I missed this
video do you do us have you done a video
specifically on WordPress security no I
haven't I run wordfence
and I have their pro level on our big
site because that site gets a lot of
attention and we've had some some
malicious things happen on that site a
couple of times so just word fence I
just learned how to opt to run it though
because it's like it will lock you out
and it will it will keep you from doing
what you want to do because it's so
intensely firewalling and securing
things and it's like you can't upload
that plug-in you're like what I mean I
can't upload my own plug-in so you
sometimes to disable it to do different
things if you walk yourself out there's
a way around that that you have to learn
but I mean it's real but you don't have
to really worry about it until you start
getting noticed and you're not gonna get
noticed especially if you're doing a lot
of paid traffic it's when you become
like an organic powerhouse is when they
think they could take over your site and
you become worth the effort to try to
hack it the honest the easiest thing to
do I would say is there's a plug-in that
lets you move your homepage or your
login page to like a totally weird URL
and just throw some garbling goop in it
and then really ridiculous admin and
password combinations to where your
admin name is actually a password and
your password is like 32
characters or something
literally ridiculous because that's all
they're doing is they're running these
auto log-in BOTS yeah and if you just
have a the most difficult thing for
their algorithm they will give up the
work vents allows you to like if they
try three times and get it wrong with an
hour you can ban them for 60 days and if
you get banned there's a way around it
and wordfriends obviously tells you how
to do that and that's that's how I use
word fence I don't use word fence Pro on
mine right I'm still only getting 20
thousand visits a month of million she
gets like almost a million visits a
month and it's like we we get like brute
force attacked on the regular gotcha so
she's throwing this out there that may
be a cool video free totally it makes
sense like and then just you know
security and prices like under five
thousand views and this is like heavy
data you know so cuz like I think myself
and I think probably a lot of the folks
who watch your content would be really
interested in yeah
I'm actually working on a new see a
whole like WordPress series that I'm
gonna do pretty soon like how to build
an authority site through WordPress kind
of like I did with the DIY sales funnel
I'm gonna go through that that's part of
the whole fancy new office setup and
there's maybe a whiteboard up here and
we're gonna do all kinds of fun
nice alright that was the security
question and let's see here or one is
out of everything that I've asked and
you get a feel for where I'm at in my
process right now can you think of a
question that I'm not asking that I
should be asking so like is Facebook the
right advertising medium would be a
question that I would be pondering and
I'm trying to convince people of that
and I like I've kind of become a
Facebook guy right even though it's like
that much of my business I know you're
doing the YouTube thing which is great
you're doing your vlogs and you're kind
of like consistent YouTube I would
really truly test YouTube video ads
personally if I were you I would mix
that in I would duplicate out the funnel
it's a total pain in the neck but what
you would end up doing is and when I say
duplicate out the funnel like duplicate
out your follow up sequence type thing
if you're not selling anything you don't
necessarily need to do that you you
could just duplicate out your opt-in
page to track the conversions and I met
that one of the the marketing directors
for thrive themes at the consciousness
book at they're gonna be building in
often tracking and percentages right
into the dashboard for us so that's
gonna get easier to do but see if you
can get a better cost per lead from
YouTube I would just see where you can
get the best cost per lead I wouldn't I
don't look at Facebook as like a magic
solution it's a great option it's a
great way to test if you have a working
funnel odds are you can find a way to
get Facebook to work best-case scenario
is you're running both in parallel but
just try because you've got video chops
you've been doing a lot of video editing
as we were talking about earlier I think
it's worth testing that as well and I
guess one of my big question or it's not
really something you haven't asked but
you know when should I launch would be
maybe to put it in question form and
it's like do you have videos 1 & 2 like
days 1 & 2 setup if you do launch start
running traffic give it a shot like you
can add video 3 on day 2 right like all
you got to do is say one day ahead of
people and like the sooner you start to
get data of people do you want to cuz
like here's a really interesting
question how long have you invested in
building out this seven-day series I if
you want to just go by man-hours I
probably say 30 man-hours cool over the
course of 3 weeks 2 weeks yeah cool so
so you you're you're doing a little bit
of the opposite of an MVP the cool thing
is you could potentially sell this later
right this could you could at some point
shift it around and it could become a
paid product so so I'm not saying it's a
bad thing but I'm just saying like like
I'm like where's the data where's the
proof let's get that headline because I
think the headline on your opt-in page
is actually like the most contingent
thing variable and all of it to your
ultimate success is that hook that
headline and it'll it'll reflect out in
your in your ads and everything and it
reflect out on the page when they when
they go to it but um like really it's
that can you convert 30 to 40 percent of
cold people to subscribers and then
email them all the time
email them all the time and the
industry-standard you were saying is
your goal is 20% and then work up from
there I think you remember that video
yeah yeah 20 25 percent like if you if
you're not if you're not at 20 25
percent like you're something's wrong
you know like if you're at 15 percent
opt-in rate like you your message does
not match with your audience right so
that could be an audience issue or a
message issue but somewhere there we're
missing and that's the thing and and
what's cool is so like you've invested
the time and the energy to build out the
seven day series well you can like title
it whatever you want you can you can
like change the angle and the
positioning of it through the headline
and you obviously get that so so that's
really the the crux and you're gonna
find there's gonna be one headline that
just like boom 38% or 42% and when
you're
not range you got breathing room like it
like the market said yes this is
something that that you know 2 out of 3
people are really interested in that's
that's a really powerful position to be
in because because the list is
everything right then you get to share
your vlogs share your blog posts share
new things because you're still putting
up free videos on YouTube too right yeah
oh yes so once they're through the 7 day
thing then you're like hey cool so now
that that's done I'm gonna give you my
free stuff but the moment you start to
get a flow of people done with your
seven-day thing the question becomes
like what more can I offer them whether
it's your product or someone else's
product and that's when when the money
will will begin to appear which is fun
and exciting yeah that's definitely a no
charity mean yeah alright and last
question so um this is a little bit more
on the metaphysical side of things
hand-wavy are we getting hand-wavy
yeah we're getting you know hippy dippy
over here I like it so as your is that
kombucha or is that water just water
I'll switch to the boots next yeah so
yeah this is a like I said a little bit
on the metaphysical side yeah love it
some are playing like as I get closer
and closer to kind of this point and
breaking through I'm also getting all of
these kind of odd external forces oh
yeah pressing back you're being tested
my friend oh yeah I know and I and I've
been there before
oh yeah oh yeah right like Tahoe like
yeah oh yeah going up to Tahoe for a
season and yeah crazy right oh yeah yeah
and so it's a real quick story so I mean
I've gotten like lots of stuff with my
car
right like I've gotten pulled over
recently and I didn't even get I haven't
gotten pulled over in 12 years well the
big question there are three doing
something dumb I think I was speeding a
little bit okay cool so so that means
you know you're probably in your head
you weren't thinking you weren't really
paying attention you weren't in the
moment you weren't in the present moment
you were you were somewhere else and
you know and like that was your snap
back to reality alright what else I like
this I like where we're going yeah and
also I see I like the car thing because
the car I see as a it's a symbol it's a
vessel right and the business is also a
vessel and there's I've had car troubles
as well had to drop a ton of money on my
car recently take your little Corolla oh
yeah I know it needed it needed I know
it's so sad it's still going 150,000
miles on it it's doing good but you know
tires and brakes and rotors and
alignment oil just like you know sure it
was weird because it's all walk and like
the closer I get you know it's just so
really um and I and I get it you know
I'm asking this question uh because or I
guess I'm telling you this story because
I'm curious to know do you have an
example of something in your life where
you were coming real close to like a
breakthrough I know I know I'm trying to
turn it around here on you like really
close to like kind of a breakthrough
where you're like oh but then there's
all these external forces how many how
many dude so one other thing before
before jump to that and I will I will
jump down that rabbit hole
um all of those things you mentioned
with your car are routine maintenance
things right like and if you rotate your
tires every 3000 to 5000 miles which is
free at discount tire company your tires
will last like 30% longer right like all
of those things are record like so there
wasn't I didn't sound like you didn't
blow head gasket nothing catastrophic
happened it's just you know so if you
look at it that okay routine maintenance
that that's where your question about
that WordPress security and these little
maintenance these little things you got
to do along the path almost a symbol for
that but like so right after Melanie I
got married full-on and send out cards
right I was signed in people up left and
right and for the viewers sent up cars
as a network marketing company that
Landon and I were both part of at one
point I was you know I was moving up the
ranks and drinking the kool-aid
aggressively and we flew to Australia
like because Australia had just opened
there was like four distributors in
Australia when we flew out there and I
was like this is it I'm gonna go you
know the whole mindset of that is I'm
gonna go
be the ground-floor I may get the first
five people in Australia signed up
they're gonna sign up the 26 million
other people in Australia and that's I'm
a minted didn't quite happen that way
right like literally we sold millions a
lot like our car we had already sold my
Jeep we were down in one car we sold the
car before we left because we were
leaving the country sold donated
everything got rid of everything was our
first attempt at no matting and we just
flat out random out of money and I was
going to be in I groups you remember the
BNI stuff and like I was doing all of
the things and I was you know doing my
the secret I was visualizing everything
and it just wasn't clicking and you know
my heart and my soul I was like I wanted
to be and I was ten steps further I was
like you know really visualizing the
checks in the mail
and nothing was happening out of that
Melanie's readings she was doing on the
side is what actually floated us when we
were in Australia and that was when we
got the sign of the path to follow and
at first it was a very brush covered
path it was not a clear path at all it
was like she was having to wake up at 3
in the morning
Australia time because you know we were
just like you know you want pay a
hundred fifty bucks for a reading like
absolutely we would get paid and we
would have enough money on our little
PayPal MasterCard even those PayPal
cards like that was grocery money like
we literally had no groceries and like a
reading would book we'd walked down to
the store and swipe it and get groceries
and they're like okay cool we need that
to happen again within five days or else
we're gonna starve my grandfather passed
away and I ended up changing my flights
back to the US with no money because I
had no money we literally flat out ran
out of money had to be back in my
parents house at like 30 and just like
crushed by this vision of
entrepreneurship and this is what I'm
doing and I've been doing all the
visualizing I've been doing I've been
doing all the things I thought I needed
to be doing but just something wasn't in
alignment and that was when we kind of
tripled down on the kind of current
business that were at at the ask Angels
and what we're doing now is very she
doesn't do readings anymore right she's
stopped those like a year year and a
half afterwards and like even that has
pivoted and changed and so it's normal
and I think I think that's the part of
entrepreneurship that doesn't get enough
attention unfortunately and it's it's
weird because it's like well let's not
dwell on the negative and you know think
the positive thoughts and be an optimist
and attract what you think about but
like the reality being an entrepreneur
is we're always tested we always have
the opportunity to to eff everything up
you you really do have things on the
line and 98 or 99 percent of people
around you don't get it they're all
doing this safe secure thing of like
punching a clock getting a paycheck and
they're cool doing that for 40 hours a
week for 40 years you just kind of see
through that of like that's actually the
dangerous approach to life because you
know it's stroke or whatever hits you in
if 33 years is just all right
like everybody hates that so it's just
knowing that like you have to kind of
maintain your vision but also staying
observant when these things come up of
like where your pivot opportunities
testing a lot of different things try it
like and that's why I've come back a
couple times to like growing the email
lists that and that what are the
technical dominoes involved in that like
domino one is your add domino number two
is your landing page if you get those
two things right you have a list if you
have a list there's all kinds of
directions that can go and that's what
Melanie and I had done really well in
the early days is even when she was
doing the readings and this that we had
the list but then when we decided to
test like well let's see if we get a
bunch of people on a live call together
and we did these like free conferencing
calm calls like sending Jordan Adler is
to do use that same system he was using
cuz it was free right and like wow you
know like 30 people showed up off of an
email cool I wonder if they buy a seven
dollar product if we recorded something
and mailed it and sent it for seven sure
enough a few people bought and that was
how the path went and the reason we were
able to test these different things was
because we had the list and we own that
list right so it's it really once you
get that list it's like you you don't
know what the actual best path is and I
I'm hesitating to use the word
monetization you don't know what the
best source of monetization is going to
be but I think the other side of that
coin is you don't necessarily know how
you can be most helpful to your audience
yet so you need to try a bunch of
different things and your seven-day
course that's a great it's a great trial
it's a great start I know lots of people
in the space who sell like ongoing yoga
they do yoga boot camps 30 day yoga boot
camps that you
really well with those so like the model
is proven it's there but like who knows
maybe like there's other directions it
can all go at some point and that's
where like that list will go with you
and you just just build that
relationship with that list long term
but man I just like so many times and
that's why I think you know now I'm
really conservative I don't I don't go
outside of what's working cuz so I did
so many things that didn't work for so
many years we found like one or two
things that worked and we've done that
for nine years dog we started asking
ages okay eight years eight and a half
years ago we started ask angels right
like so we've just like we're doing the
same exact thing on the exact same
schedule that we started like 2003 2004
is when we like started the membership
program and now with the miles back I'm
just showing how I'm doing it which is
literally doing the same thing we did to
grow that platform again totally
different niche totally different like
diversifying getting growing another
audience two is one one is done type
theory but I'm doing the same people
right well you could do this and you
could do that you could monetize Otis
like maybe I guess but like I know for a
fact this it might be the slow long race
but I'll take the tortoise approach
versus the hare approach or you know
like the ant and grasshopper is an Aesop
fable that's a really good one and like
I'm taking that ant approach and I don't
really stray into uncharted territories
often I'm trying to stick with something
you know find one thing that works and
just over and over and over and that's
why with Miles bechler it's probably
gonna just be me doing affiliate stuff
right that's I'm just gonna be as
helpful as I possibly can and promote a
few key things that actually do help you
that's it that's my whole bit and people
you can start a membership yeah I know
you probably could there's a lot of
that goes in with that and it
would distract me from doing the one
thing I know is gonna work be the most
damn helpful internet marketer in the
world actually help people and just show
them the few tools that they need that
at scale it's gonna work could I make
more selling info products I don't know
I'm not that good of a copywriter there
would be so many new challenges I have
the opportunity to go down that path
right like I could make the decision to
ignore changing my oil which is putting
up my videos every day which what we're
creating right now I could ignore this
to make a $2,000 a month coaching
program because I
fake guru and I'll teach it you know I
could do that but I could tarnish my
reputation
I could lose trust in my audience and
everything could fall apart from there
so I'm just like one-trick pony just
keep doing it in fact I'm trying to
figure out how I can rotate my tires
more often like create more videos and
that's that's where this is and that's
where that is is like okay that one
thing actually works like I'll just
triple down on that part of why we got
this house and I'm doing the whole
studio thing did that answer in any way
shape or form of your question I just
went on a frickin rant there dude I love
it no it's great because I knew that was
probably gonna spark something where you
know is like this was my whole little
like sneaky way of getting you know
miles to give us some sort of like
personal in his brain type thing you
know because I'm sure hopefully people
watching this are gonna go like oh man
like you know they you know when you
give these personal stories people
really start to like you more trust you
more all these things and it just really
you know it makes it and people want to
connect with people you know and so I'm
like what here here's another one I
think another way of looking at it is
Anna Melanie space it's huge a lot of
people in a spiritual space are kind of
like I'm up here I'm the Guru on the
mountain and you're down there and I've
figured everything out and you just need
to do what I do to get it figured out a
lot of network marketers approach at
letting internet marketers approach it
this way right I make like look at my
income reports one hundred forty five
thousand five hundred eleven dollar this
is what I do and it's all passive but I
made fifteen new blog posts I made
fifteen new podcast episodes and I'm
launching three new courses nothing
about these people's lives are passive
although they're selling passive and it
makes this gap of like you know somebody
who's just starting out looks at that
look I could never do that or the
spirituality they look at the Guru on
the mountain who meditates all day every
day they're like I could never do that
like I have real life I got real
problems and when when we drop
those emails and we're real we become
authentic and we become authentic and
we're like you I failed so many I mean
I've failed more than most other people
have that's why I found those three
things at work is because I failed more
than most people were even willing to
try and it was through that we found it
and when you're that honest with people
it's really cool it's like your story
about the yoga like where your life was
when you kind of like committed to the
200-hour and like how your life is
transformed and your
just physically but spiritually and kind
of like emotionally all that the more
you paint that the more people really
get the value and the benefit and and
the the why behind it and then they see
like okay so miles is just a dude doing
video after video and all I'm showing is
like here's my results keep it making
videos like you can do it too with that
said it's incredibly difficult to make
lots and lots of videos as you probably
realize especially with how much you
edit them I dunno editing and it's still
super challenging but you know my list
is now over three thousand people thirty
eight thousand subscribers in about 15
months you know my traffic on my
websites at twenty to twenty five
thousand visits a month at this point
that's crazy like I said I'm still blown
away personally how much growth I've
experienced and all signs are pointing
to that's going to compound and I just
want to stay real in like yo this path
has been wrought with challenge and
