released a major update to the algorithm
which you can call shortly
no more engagement bait what is
engagement bait exactly and what
Facebook update is all about I will tell
you in a second on my laptop and before

so guys at the beginning of this week on
Monday 18th of December Facebook
announced big updates to the algorithm
big changes that will impact a lot of
marketers a lot of businesses and in
just a few thousand entities who running
their Facebook pages and growing their
followers and before I will explain you
in details what are the changes let me
briefly explain how Facebook algorithm
works so when Facebook just started
everyone could see every single post of
every single page that they are
subscribed to alright so basically if
you as an owner of any page on Facebook
had 100 followers and you posted
something on your page every single
follower of your page all 100 people
would see your post but few years ago
Facebook decided to make some changes
and limit the exposure of the majority
of the posts and they made it so that
pretty much only the most popular of the
most viral and posts with the most likes
and engagement would be visible in a lot
of in the majority of people news feeds
I personally see two reasons why
Facebook did this kind of update a few
years ago the first reason is to filter
the majority of posts because there are
a lot of spam started to be a lot of
posts
and more and more users were joining
Facebook and Facebook was drawing so
rapidly that no nobody would be able to
consume every single post of all all the
pages that they liked all the friends
that they follow and this way that they
kind of naturally filter out the content
that these average or boring or spammy
and so on and they started showing today
uses only the best content the both the
the content that people like and engage
with so this reason is actually quite
smart and good the second reason is they
force this way for advertisers and
companies marketers to pay money to
reach their audience so let's imagine
you have 100 fans of of your page a 100
people follow your page liked it and you
post something on your page you may
assume that all 100 people will see that
post but in reality these days Reach is
less than 5 percent so it's basically
you have to expect that less than 5%
less than 5 people out of 100 will see
the post that you publish on your page
as I noticed from my experience after
you publish a post on Facebook Facebook
shows this post to a small portion a
small part of the audience
initially to get some feedback how many
people out of that small part of
audience would will like that post or
react or comment like participate engage
with the post and if the percentage of
engagement will be high enough then
Facebook will increase the drop audience
and show to the next part of the
audience to a little bit broader and if
that next part of the audience will
engage on the same level and like the
post comment or express some
my emotions emoji like click on the
emoji and stuff then Facebook will
expose this post to even more people and
so on so the second reason why Facebook
limited the organic reach of the posts
is to make ad with advertisers and
professionals to pay for advertisements
so basically if you have a page with
decent amount of followers and you want
to reach every single follower on your
page you have to pay it to Facebook you
have to bar like pay for Facebook Ads to
reach your own audience so people not
only professional marketers but even
regular users of Facebook naturally with
time and go a little bit more educated
with Facebook algorithm and started
let's say I found a trick how to exploit
this Facebook algorithm and make the
posts that would be visible to more
people than they would naturally do so
the trick was which was actually working
really well over the last few years when
people were posting something publishing
a post on Facebook they were including
let's say manipulative call to action I
will give you an example just in a
second and right now we're going to
these new update which basically killed
this trick and people cannot exploit
this kind of trick anymore
so let me move the camera a little bit
and I will show you what I mean like
what kind of tricks people were using
I'm sure every one of you who is
watching this video met on Facebook
these kind of tricks let's say
manipulative call to action so this
trick is called engagement bait
it's like click bait but considering
that the majority of posts did not have
any link there was nothing to click on
but to increase the reach to the wider
audience admins of the groups and pages
that were publishing this kind of
engagement bait they were
incentivizing their audience to engage
with their posts to like to choose
emotion reaction comment and so on so
there are few options rotating
reactivating share bathing both bathing
is for example as you can see on this
example picture of for like collage of
four pictures and if you like this
picture you put this emoji if you like
this picture you put that emoji
reactivating is like here is an example
like this if you are in areas or love
this if you are a Leo and of course a
lot of people are emotional and very
attached to the zodiac sign and they
will participate engage with the post
and like Olaf depending on the sign then
these ones especially was like share
baiting it was really well working for
promoting stuff for example a big city
car dealer as you can see on the screen
they wrote here's just as an example
share this with 10 friends for a chance
to win a new convertible so obviously
why wouldn't you share with 10 friends
to have a chance to win and a
convertible it's quite reasonable offer
you know so then there are two more also
one of the popular ones especially over
the last few months
tag bathing and the common bathing tag
bathing is when you incentivize your
followers to tag your friends or someone
or want people to people who can relate
to this post and so on and comment
baiting this one I see a lot because
it's probably one of the well used to be
one of the most effective its comment
yes if you like something or comment or
for example they can also publish a
picture with text like I have a free
ebook
on how to make pancakes I don't know a
JIT just as an example and they put say
yes if you want this ebook because if
you do if you include a link into the
post on Facebook the rich is gonna be
even lower
without the link and how they were using
this kind of exploiting this kind of
trick at the algorithm of Facebook they
were putting the picture that gave your
free e-book on some topic let's say and
then they would put comment yes if you
want the book and all the people every
single person who wanted that ebook they
would put yes in the comments and then
the admin of the post would reach out to
them in private message or drop the link
in the reply in the comments and so on
so the update to the algorithm is that
none of this is working anymore so
Facebook analyzed thousands and hundred
of thousands of posts and people and
pages who were exploiting their
algorithm and they started punishing it
so basically what they implemented
started implementing from this week is
they limit the reach of those pages who
exploiting this their algorithm this way
and Facebook decreasing they reach even
more than the rest of the people the
rest of the pages and so on so if you
were using anything of this or thinking
to use any anything of this I highly
recommend you to stop doing that because
Facebook doesn't like it if they
announced this kind of post then they
are going aggressively after people
users and pages who were exploiting
their algorithm because a lot of updates
they're releasing without even
announcing without publishing the
announcements you use press the read
releases and they just update they're
out
we are saying anything so if they
publish this kind of update on the news
page then that means that it's really
serious so what can be the possible
solution how he can reach as many fans
or followers on your Facebook a Facebook
page or Facebook group without using
engagement bait first you want to
include bright images bright like I
caching then you want to ask you can
include call to action
but or questions but you have to write
open and open-ended questions you know
you can't ask your audience to say yes
to to say like one two or like some kind
of a certain word so that every single
fan would put the same word
this will definitely trigger Facebook
algorithm and that will punish your post
and it will decrease in in engagement
but what you want to ask you want to ask
something really open-ended so that
people would have to think a little bit
and put their own answer their own reply
unique so that everyone would share
their own thoughts or their own
experience and this will create the
natural engagement of your posts another
thing you can post something provocative
you know you will have to create some
smarter posts smarter approach this
whole Facebook marketing you know be
smarter way before that it was basically
a spam because it's easy to publish a
post and say and ask people to say yes
and then just send out the link you can
you were able even to use the Facebook
boat so after these updates it's not
gonna work anymore but with a little bit
of creativity Facebook is still a great
place to mark into your business so
