Facebook's Updated Ad Manager Tutorial 2018! Learn How To Use The New Ad Manager & Launch A Campaign

hey miles here miles Becker calm and
this video is all about Facebook's
updated ad manager it's early March 2018
and Facebook just merged the ad manager
and the power editor into one new kind
of software tool for US advertisers on
Facebook so this video is gonna go
inside of this updated ad manager and
show you around so you can find where
the tools are that you need to use in
order to advertise successfully on
Facebook and then I'm gonna go through
the process of creating an advertisement
to show you the flow now there's a few
different ways that you're able to use
this ad manager and if you've been
running on the power editor up until
this point you're gonna find that it
operates very very similar to the power
editor which is what I've recommended so
if you've seen my past videos my
advertising on facebook series or my $5
a day Facebook ad video series you'll
notice that it looks very very similar
now real quick before we jump in I want
to talk about why Facebook made this
move to me it really makes sense it was
a clear move and for them to be managing
two separate software tools for
advertisers made no sense
that means from like a logistical side
of things from their home office they
had two separate teams trying to
implement two separate types of updates
and rolling out different things in
different places
it just makes logical sense for them to
mash it up into one tool then have one
tool to stay focus
ed on hopefully
they'll get to make this tool better and
better for us now that they've got all
those engineers working on one
application versus multiple different
applications with that said let's jump
in we're gonna get in I am gonna create
an ad I'm not going to write an ad so
I'm gonna go pull an ad from our fanpage
that's currently live so the other side
of this video is this is how I boost
posts right I don't use the boost post
button that pops up on our fan page I go
in through the ad manager I actually set
it up I target the ads on specific
targets that way I can really I mean
it's all about targeting and Facebook
Ads that's why we use Facebook
advertising is because of the targeting
so that's the kind of why behind what
I'm gonna do so let's jump right in and
take a look around now this window the
way the window works is the first thing
you notice is you've got
of your ad manager based data right here
in the main window and it gives you the
bottom line results which is your
cumulative total of all the results you
have so when you're analyzing your data
following what I talked about in the
five dollar day video series I did a
series where I covered like the four or
five videos that track the results you
do that the same way through here this
works the exact same as the ads manager
all of your data is here and then when
you're trying to edit and work with the
campaigns you've got the three tabs
across the top that actually get you
into from the campaign to the ad set
where you work on the interests to the
ads themselves where you work with and
modify the ads themselves each of those
are managed on the tabs above and when
you want to work with something you
simply click this little checkbox to the
left and you've got this pencil that
pops out and this pops out the actual
editor window that allows you to work
within this specific audience or
whatever you have and you can check
multiple ones of these at the same time
to make edits to multiple different ad
sets at the same time so this the way
this functions this little slide-out
screen that works and the tick in the
box on what you want to work with this
is right out of the power editor so it
all works really really similar there
and then really I think the ads manager
side is the data viewing so we get the
benefit of viewing the ad data like we
had in the ad manager which is what I
use to view my data and then you get the
benefit of editing here in the same
window the exact same as we worked with
the power editor so with that all set I
want to unselect my ad sets and I'm
going to jump right in and I'm gonna
create a new ad campaign so we click
this green Kym create button and it's
gonna give me two options here okay so
I've already said no if you haven't gone
through this process yet it's going to
give you two options and you can see
it's it's giving me the opportunity to
switch to the guided creation now the
guided creation is it's not the method
that I use it's probably more of a
beginner friendly method I like to have
a little bit more control and I like to
set up just a framework campaign so I
can duplicate out my ad sets for my
$5.00 a day so I use the quick create
the guided creation which I've clicked
on to show you this one looks a little
bit different so here you're gonna go
down and you're gonna choose what kind
of conversions and it literally it walks
you through all of the different steps
to get it here kind of step by step in
the screen but personally I like the the
quick creation version so that's what
I'm gonna use and that's what I
recommend people use I'll show you a
little bit more of why because it makes
it easy to set up that five dollar day
campaign setup so here our first thing I
do is I name it so I'm go ahead and name
it and so I use the website I put a date
in there parameter so that can help me
kind of keep an eye on what the date is
and then just what this is buying type
option the campaign type I still run and
highly recommend that everyone runs
conversion based campaigns conversion
campaigns leverage the power of
Facebook's machine learning system so as
I start to drive more conversions
through my pixel here Facebook looks at
the type of person they look at all
those data points they have on the
individuals who are actually converting
and then they try to go show my ad to
more people who are more similar to
those who purchased helping me leverage
Facebook's kind of machine learning
system to bring me more customers or
more leads depending on what pixel I set
it up as then what I do here is I'm
gonna do an ad set name and I'm going to
mirror this just to make it easy and I'm
gonna go ahead and put that in for the
ad name also and when you're doing a
five dollar day campaign I set up one
campaign and I get that thing launched
first so it's the campaign the ad set
and the ad I get that all launched
once that's reviewed and approved I go
in and i duplicate out the ad set over
and over and over
changing the interest in each one of
those and I found this to be the easiest
way to accomplish that so you can see
once we're through that screen it loads
the campaign level of the editor so it's
got the load box checked for my campaign
it's got this editor window out if I
want to close this I click the little
pencil and it's going it doesn't want me
to do that yet
but if you wanted to close it which it
did you just click the pencil to reopen
it you click the pencil and then you
notice it kind of compresses the three
little windows here so this is campaign
this is ad set and this is ad so you can
kind of manipulate through the different
parts of the ad campaign here in
Facebook so this is all set up I don't
need to do anything if it come at the
campaign level so I click on the ad set
level here which is just this little
icon and it brings me in now it's got
the box checked and it brings me into
the ad set itself now it wants to run
the last conversion pixel I ran but I
want a different conversion pixel this
is just knowing my business so I want
the nan-oh teo sale so now this is
saying when a customer purchases this
product they'll go to this page and I
have this the page the thank-you page
for this specific product is set up as
this pixel so when someone hits a
thank-you page this specific pixel fires
and that is how Facebook knows they
bought this specific product from my
other ads I use a different Thank You
page for a different product and that's
how Facebook knows product a sold over
here product B sold over here is using
the custom conversions and the Facebook
pixel so down here I'm gonna get down to
the budget and scaling I'm gonna go
ahead and set this thing for 50 bucks
for the day I'm just gonna run kind of a
one-day campaign I'm gonna set this
thing to end run i'ma end it tomorrow
evening just gonna run it through the
weekend because it's it's essentially
just kind of like a quick boosted post
and I'll run it through about let's do 8
o'clock p.m. so if you're running the $5
a day style campaigns I usually let
these things I don't set an end date and
I just let them run ongoing because most
of what I'm advertising is evergreen I
already have that campaign running which
is why I'm not showing you how to do
that but next time I start that one up
I'll definitely do a new video to show
how that works and then we're into the
audience this is the targeting section
here in the audience this is all of the
power of Facebook in its greatness the
first thing I'm going to do is is choose
all of what I call like the big four of
the Big Five english-speaking countries
which is Canada USA Great Britain
Australia might even throw in New
Zealand and therefore for fun
and that's it I'll just go with a big
for for right now to make it quick and
easy now in the audience I've got the
ability to add my custom audiences and
you need to be really specific on what
works for you for that ad that you're
running okay so I'm gonna focus this
advertisement on subscribers to my email
list and past customers now I'm not
focusing this on interests I'm not
focusing this on just web visitors who
I'm retargeting because I'm there's the
post the ad here is actually selling a
physical product so I'm simply targeting
my hottest customers right people who
have bought from me before or people who
have been on the list and are getting
all of our goodwill emails all of our
broadcast emails so now you may not have
those pixels set up you may not have
that data set up you could be running
this targeting to look like audiences or
to interest specifically the authors the
blog names the brand's who are big in
your space who already have your
audience and again that is more of a
factor of what your advertisements
focusing on and who you want to reach so
for me in this ad it's past customers
and past my email subscribers so I'm
going to add that here and I simply
click on the custom audiences and I'm
going to start to type in let's see
email I believe is what it's called make
it see it's got the all it's got the
look of like audiences and the custom
audiences so for me this is a custom
audience and I'm going to take this one
that I set up in mid-february the emails
and then I've also got a pixeled website
which I don't show that yet I'll show
you how to find that here in a second
and then customers and that same date so
I could update these customer lists here
but you notice I've also got this a a
customer pixeled audience I'm gonna go
ahead and click on that and I should
have another email audience it might be
called lead lead pixel audience so these
are kind of covering the same thing
these are direct exports from my email
list
you simply go up here and you go to
audiences and if you don't see audiences
there you go to all tools and then
audiences over here under assets and
then you upload your audiences takes
20-30 minutes 40 minutes for it to
render so this is my customer list this
is my email list and then I've got it
based on the pixels so when someone goes
through and purchases they get added to
this pixel audience when someone becomes
a lead they get added to this pixel
audience so between this and this I've
got a couple of hundred thousand people
it's still updating the audience numbers
but I know this is about a couple
hundred thousand now I want to exclude
some individuals right I don't want this
to go out to absolutely everyone on
these lists I'm trying to exclude people
who maybe have already seen and visited
the sales page so I click exclude and
this is going to allow me I'm gonna do a
custom audience and I'm gonna go
visitors and I'm gonna exclude all my
website visitors because if anybody's
been to that sales page or been to my
website and lasted in last few days they
probably know Who I am and I'm actually
gonna do just the 90 day not all just
the last 90 days and then I want to
exclude engaged audience now these are
people who have engaged on a post or an
ad and what this does is it helps me
make sure that I'm not duplicating out
my ad and showing my ad over and over to
the same people when someone thumbs up
Hart's surprise face or leaves a comment
on an ad they're automatically gonna be
excluded from this so if they comment on
the ad they won't get to see that ad
again or if they click on the ad and go
through to the next level that's kind of
my goal here so I scroll down I've
already set up my specific locations
that's cool I'm gonna leave all of these
parameters open the reason I'm leaving
the age and the gender wide open is
because these people have taken action
they either purchased from me or they
have been kind of subscribed to my email
list since they've taken that action I
don't need to identify them any further
if you're doing interest based campaigns
you probably would want to filter these
down only if you have very clear data on
who your best customers are you would
want to target it down to your best
customers so for me I know I can I can
focus this to women 35 and older but
honestly I want to give everyone an
opportunity to see this because I just
want my past customers and mice
drivers to know about this new product
offering so detailed targeting this is
where you would add the interests if
you're going with an interest based
campaign that comes down here since I'm
not running interest based campaigns I'm
gonna leave that empty and then we
scroll down to the placements I want to
edit the placements I don't do much to
be honest so I turn off instant articles
turn off the right columns turn off the
marketplace I turn off Instagram I turn
off the audience Network they're gonna
warn me like oh no you're not gonna get
any reach and I'm okay with that because
these traffic sources suck this is all I
want I want to show up natively in their
feed I want it to look like a normal
post I just want it to fit right in with
their normal Facebook user experience
and that's that's what I do that's how I
run every single one of my campaign
still to this day other people have
success doing other things and that's
great this works for me so I just keep
doing what works all mobile devices I'm
cool I'm gonna only show it to them when
they're on Wi-Fi this gives me an odds
that they're a little bit more stable
this tries to eliminate people who might
be at the grocery store for example or
who are just kind of browsing while
waiting for a train and then they're
gonna get interrupted and they might not
be able to get through that checkout
process so again I'm thinking about that
user behavior where they're at odds are
they're gonna be sitting at home I'm
trying to catch them at home when
they're on their home Wi-Fi they've
pre-programmed their phone to that boom
that's the moment I want to connect with
them so that's why I'm taking that box
here I don't always do that but for this
specific example I do and then I leave
all of this the same I leave this
standard conversion 7-day click
automatic all of this is 100% standard
so now I'm done with defining my
audience and what I do is I move on to
the advertisement part now again I'm
kind of running this as a boosted post
is what I'm gonna be doing here so I'm
gonna go in and pull an already
published post from my fanpage now if
you're creating a new ad you just go
through the full process of writing out
all the copy I've got videos that show
how to create ads I'll link to one I'll
make sure one pops up here in the corner
one of these corners it'll be on the top
a little bar will pop out and that'll
show you where you actually create the
ad and type everything up but for the
sake of making it kind of quick and easy
on this video I'm just gonna select my
fanpage and it's gonna verify so here I
just go to use existing post and it's
gonna load here in a quick second and
then I'm gonna select a post now if
you're doing the $5 a day ad campaign
you can open your ad you can take the ad
ID which is up in the URL and you simply
enter the post ID and you pop that in
and it'll pull up any ad since this is a
recent post it was just right here just
a couple of clicks down unable to grab
that and now this whole ad loads and
again this is a live post that we ran
it's got a more it's got a lot of text
above and it gives a call out to our to
our audience to where they're going and
that's it I'm done at this point so what
I'm gonna do is I'm gonna click publish
and this ad is gonna go up into the
review status they're gonna review the
ad but honestly since it's a since it's
already a live post the odds are this
thing's gonna go live here in just a
moment and that's it I'm pretty much
done you can see that it's it's
successful I can view the details if I
want but what I'm gonna do is I'm gonna
close this down now now if you're
running a new ad that you just wrote you
just created all the copy what you want
to do is you'll want to publish that one
ad and you want to wait to make sure
that this ad goes live then to create
more ad sets once that's live you simply
click here on the ad set tab and see
I've got the box checked you go
duplicate and it'll ask you how many
duplications do you want to do and you
can set it one ten twenty thirty so if
you have thirty interests right you've
been through my other videos you've got
that list of thirty interests that you
want to target you can simply duplicate
this out thirty times and you go into
each one remove what you started with
right so I would remove the visitors the
customers and the email on this and then
I would add in new ones so let's do it
once just to go through the process but
again you only want to go through this
process once you know that that campaign
the ad set and the advertisement
themselves are live right you wait for
that thing to go live and to know it's
live you simply go look at your data
wait till you see data running through
there's visitors visiting it you see
numbers coming through on the data it is
live updated so I'm gonna do one
original campaign everything is all I do
I click duplicate again you can do five
you
ten whatever you want and this is going
to load and then you can see it creates
post boost copy it's in the right
campaign and it's also going to have the
advertisement so what I would do up here
is I'm gonna do website visitors so this
is to tell myself what audience this is
so if you're doing the interest base
right you're doing the five dollar a day
you're doing one interest per ad set I
would put the actual name of the
interest up here in a title and then
what I do is I go down and you have to
edit your audience so we're gonna do is
I'm gonna remove the customer pixel
audience I'm gonna remove the lead pixel
audience I'm gonna remove the customer
lists right and I want to now exclude
them and I'm gonna take off this website
visitor ninety-day and that's what I'm
gonna show this ad to so I want to add
that up here is that gonna find it
got it so now I've got the website
visitor ninety-day and that's who I'm
showing this to and I want to remove the
customer list the lead list and this
again I'm probably sounding like I'm
repeating myself a lot and I am it's
really important for you to remember
that I'm doing this because this is a
fact function of my business I'm not
saying this is the only type of ad you
should run this is just what fits into
my business model today for me to
document the process to show you if
you're doing interests you simply go to
the lower section I'll show you in a
second you remove the first interest you
were focused on and you add the second
interest that you're focused on all this
should be the same if you're doing
interest based so then I want to do
email so in the first ad set that I set
up I'm focused on showing it to these
people and I'm excluding it from these
people
now what I've created is the opposite
now I'm excluding it from the people who
will see the ad in ad set 1 and I'm
showing it to these people so they see
an ad set - this is minimizing the
overlap on my ad sets right so this ad
isn't gonna try to show to the same
people that the other ad is then once
I'm done I want to go click to make sure
that it's got the right ad in here and
you'll see it automatically populates
that same ad so if you've put an ad that
you're already running in the first ad
set when you duplicate it out it's just
going to add that ad to all of your ad
sets so you can create 30 ads and all of
them will focus our energy on one
specific youth create 30 ad sets and all
of them will focus their energy on one
specific advertisement thus leveraging
the number of likes and the amount of
engagement that you're getting on that
so this is it for me I'm up and running
on this I'm gonna create publish and at
this point I'm on the path right I now
have to add sets each one is focused on
spending 30 dollars per day I'm doing
that because I want to run a short just
a one two day thing I'm gonna really
monitor these numbers closely again if
you're doing a $5 a day ad campaign kind
of style you want to do five dollars per
interest each interest gets its own ad
set all those ad sets
focus back to one advertisement and
that's it it's really quite simple and I
do believe that if you were using if you
were using already kind of before
watching this video the power editor
this is all gonna look really really
similar to you the one difference and
the one change is you're now going to
kind of look at your data and analyze
your data in the same place here if
you're completely new to Facebook
welcome to the party I do think that
this is actually an easier system for us
Facebook advertisers it was very
confusing before to new people like well
why do you have the ad manager and the
power editor and where do I find this
and how do which one do I use for what
so they've really eliminated all of
those questions they've made it really
simple for us to just focus in one tool
there's one place for you to go whether
you're analyzing your data or setting up
new ad sets and remember my whole
philosophy is let's spend little amounts
of money spread across lots of different
ad sets and you're testing the ad sets
to see which abscessed deliver you
customers within your KPIs right you
turn off the ad sets that are well out
of your KPIs and you leave or add money
to the ad sets that are within your
kpi's here on the end screen over here
on the whiteboard I'll have a video
playlists pop up that will take you into
the $5 a day ad set where I'm where I'm
working with that and make those kind of
deeper so if you want more follow the
video that I'll show here be sure you
subscribe if you haven't subscribed yet
so you get the new videos when they come
out and any questions for me at this
point feel free to hit me in the
comments below I'm happy to answer when
I have some time and I thank you very
much know that it's a long path it's a
long process little amounts of money
spread thin over lots of different
interests is how you find those little
pockets of customers out here on
Facebook that's how I've been doing it
it's been very successful for me and I
recommend that you get in while the
getting's good because the the Facebook
game is it changing and these prices
will change over time so what's working
now may not work next year so so get in
while you can and start running some
traffic some cool Facebook traffic and I
hope you have all the success in the
world with this and again subscribe
engage thumbs up leave me comments do
what you do I appreciate the engagement
and I'll catch you on the next video
