GOOD OLD DAYS of SEO. Penalties & Article Spinning. Regrets. Fat Stacks Blog, Jon Dykstra

well yeah we're talking about way back
in the good old days of SEO yeah I mean
I got I got peanuts big time how do you
right away I didn't I knew right away
time instead like the SEO has changed
forever and I recognized something
completely shift computer that was that
was 2012 when the first penguin dropped
so yeah I'll never forget I mean we were
all doing Washington we all were but a
lot of people for dealing you know just
like he said article spinning the
software the I mean it was it was just
ridiculous it's like a lot of ways it
was cool though because I mean ranking
was pretty easy with a lot less
competition and I mean it was it was
pretty cool a little rank for a lot of
crazy stuff back then but anyways that
party came to a screeching halt so but
do I do I call that a mistake no because
that was the industry norm back in the
day and doing it if I have one regret
about it all that it is I think
sometimes imagine if I had started like
a really really good side way back then
and just slowly you know ii took the
tortoise route and kept growing it where
it would be now but you know i I took
shortcuts that I did I did the link
building stuff but I think a lot of big
sites today also did and they somehow
come through it all and survived so I
mean I I have a couple of sites that
made it through I just didn't happen to
do a whole lot of and their good side so
don't really regret it but I wish I'd
started a good site before chance when
it gets like 2014 I'm going since then I
regret my mistake is I didn't take
advantage of the pre Facebook traffic a
whole lot more when that was going
because that that came about right after
the the first penguin I mean after that
it's like everyone was jumping onto
Facebook and the free traffic and
getting getting fans and then get it I
mean the free traffic was incredible
like it was just me I could have toast
fast enough every day I was like one an
hour for 24 hours I was just like
a stream and that was great I wish I had
got a lot more than I wish I had set up
like 20 pages and just totally gone
after that but that came to an end as
well
terms of what I'm doing these days you
know sometimes I think isn't this a kid
to run as many sites as I'm doing some
weeks I think you know maybe sell them
or put them on the back burner maybe
it's I'm spread too thin and I think
probably it's true but they are serving
a good purpose because I get it a lot of
testing on and that's proved really
helpful so even though they're not
growing as fast as I would like just
because I don't have the time or the
money to invest in them the fact that I
have 10,000 visitors a day to testing
sites I can do some pretty cool stuff
with it I don't care like if I if if an
atom or proves to be really bad or I get
bad results for a week it's it's we're
not talking to tremendous amount of
money
the results are valuable enough that I
can make better decisions going forward
so yeah but there are weeks I think you
know maybe I should just dump everything
and focus on one or two projects and
that's probably pretty sound advice but
we'll see what I do
