hey what's going on this is Doug and
welcome to the Doug show this episode is
going to be a quick one I'm just gonna
answer one question here see how it goes
show by the way here's the question how
many posts do I need to launch an Amazon
affiliate site and unlike many of the
other you know answers that I'm just
gonna answer it straight up and then I'm
gonna back into the answer and give you
you know the reasons why I think this is
ok so 10 posts I believe you only need
to launch a site with 10 post and that's
it about half of the content should be
informational like how-to articles you
know just generally helpful content and
the other half should be product reviews
and that would be considered like
affiliate content and you'll see a lot
of advice I think it's terrible advice
from I guess like guru type people which
I don't classify myself as one but guru
types to publish a lot of content at the
very beginning of a site like you know
publish 50 post before you launch or 100
or 200 or something like that before you
even you know quote launch your site and
you end up working on the content for a
very long time probably months many
months depending on how you know how
much you outsource and how quickly you
could work on it and you're just
publishing content and you have like no
validation that your site can get
traffic you have no validation that
you're gonna be able to make any money
so it's really I mean there's no small
wins there's no early small wins and I
think that's really important in fact
that's part of the reason why I
recommend the keyword golden ratio for
early you know early entrepreneurs that
are looking at mid sites and people that
are launching their first Amazon
affiliate site and typically I like to
launch a site with about 70 to like 80%
of keyword golden ratio compliant posts
and you know the other post the other
2030 percent can be a higher search by
more competitive terms those are gonna
take longer to rank and there's no harm
in publishing those to go ahead and let
them start aging and getting a little
little good love from you know Google
but publishing the 70 to 80 percent of
the kg are compliant post a little help
you get a little traffic early even if
your site's very young and generally I
follow the content traffic profit sprint
and it's an idea from agile project
management basically I'm trying to get a
shippable finished product as quickly as
possible
so I'm publishing content I'm doing
outreach to get some early traffic and
that could be sort of in the form of
blog commenting guest posting maybe you
know being active in social channels so
that you're getting some traffic and
that way you have like a finished
product a smaller finished product like
the 10 post where you're actually making
some money and getting some traffic
versus you know publishing a hundred
articles and waiting hoping for months
that people are gonna show up on your
site basically you can launch your site
fast with ten posts validate your
assumptions and adjust as you need to
because things are never gonna quite
turn out how you thought it would things
are probably gonna be a little bit
harder they may take a little longer
you're gonna get a curveball here and
there and you just need to be flexible
and be willing to adjust now I know like
batching your work can be a good idea so
let's talk about that I mean really the
last thing that you want to do is make
the same mistake 50 or a hundred times
on every single post and then you have
to go back and fix them all in again it
does make sense to batch certain pieces
of work but if you're early in your you
know you know life as a affiliate site
owner then you may need to pump the
brakes and you know take it slow because
you're gonna make a few mistakes along
the way
again you don't want to make the same
mistake over and over again you want to
make a mistake one time hopefully not do
it again so I would suggest highly
suggest don't batch everything don't
launch actually to extend that you don't
want to launch like three sites at one
time if it's your first three sites
because you'll end up making the same
mistake over and over again and it's
very discouraging trust me I know this
because I've done it a few times so it's
very discouraging and it's even worse
when you know you realize you're wasting
time and you probably could have
prevented it so now I know there's a lot
of you out there similar to myself the
rebels out there and you're thinking hey
I have expertise in a specific area fill
in the blank whatever whatever yours is
and you could execute this better and
faster and you're smarter than the
average person and I'm sure you are and
I can't blame ya for thinking that again
I'm pretty much the same I personally
have a computer engineering degree of
the PMP a project manager and you know I
feel like I'm technically savvy you know
slightly proficient I would say but
truth is is I've messed up so many times
and made silly mistakes again and again
and I tried to batch my work and I tried
to batch it by the way too early so that
is how I made the same mistake dozens of
times and it believe me it's it's
painful to have to go back and fix some
silly mistake that you've done over and
over again so like I said you want to
you know you don't want to make a
mistake but there they will happen you
will make a mistake and the key is not
to make the same mistake again and again
so one other thing I want to mention
around just launching with ten posts a
lot of people are wondering if you're
going to be able to be approved into the
Amazon associate program with just ten
posts the answer is yes you will be able
to ten post is plenty now I don't know
the minimum number of post or anything
but I know that you can apply to the
program you'll
accepted basically immediately and
you're kind of on a probationary period
basically you have 180 days to make
three separate orders and if you do
someone from Amazon Associates will
review your site and then they'll give
you the yes or no now there's a lot of
you know aspects you got to make sure
you you don't violate any of the
operating agreement or Terms of Service
which is a whole discussion for another
time but basically if you publish ten
posts you will be you know you'll be
able to be accepted into the Amazon
associate program one of the key things
is to have some like non affiliate non
product review content which is why the
very beginning I mentioned having at
least 50% or more of informational
how-to type content so quick recap you
can and should lunch site with just ten
posts half of that content should be
informational half or more should be
informational and the other half can be
product review type post you could
publish a whole lot more content in the
future ten post is plenty to start with
don't go overboard don't try and launch
with like 50 or 100 posts and the other
thing that allows you to do is stop
doing keyword research all right so once
you find you know 15 or 20 keywords
that's enough you don't need to find you
know 100 or 200 or 400 keywords all at
once you just need like the first 10 so
again to revisit the agile project
management aspect you don't have to find
all the keywords that you need right you
don't have to find everything in your
keyword research phase you just need
like 10 or 15 enough to get started and
then you can publish content start doing
some the outreach when you're ready to
do more content you know do another
sprint of content publish another 10
post maybe you maybe you can do 15 in
the second sprint or 20 whatever you
think you know fits your working style
go for it that's when you should find
some more keywords
