How to add a TABLE OF CONTENTS to WORDPRESS Posts and Pages #Best Education Page #Online Earning

in this video I've never shown you how

to add a table of contents to your

wordpress posts and your wordpress pages

as well if you like we're gonna be using

a free plugin to help us do this and

yeah it has a really great type of

content that looks just like this it's

got lots of options around it you can

change the look and feel of it

you can have it closed or you can have

it open or you can allow your visitors

to open and close it and yeah it's a

really nice looking table of contents

now you might be thinking why on earth

do I need a table of contents on my

posts and my pages well there's a couple

of good reasons to do this

the first is that it helps your visitors

navigate your content more easily

especially if you've got some of those

really long articles on your website and

as we would have jumped to the section

they're looking for really quickly take

a reason and maybe the most important

reason is that it can be good for search

engines it helps Google and other search

engines kind of navigate and crawl and

index your content more easily gives

them a good idea of the structure and

sometimes those table of contents links

can appear in the search results they

might be thinking but I've got like a

hundred posts on my WordPress website

it's gonna take ages well fear not this

plugin allows you to easily auto insert

the table of contents into your posts so

you can mass update loads of posts

really easily and really quickly so I

think that's enough chitchat

from me let's go on the computer let's

get this set up

so I'm over at best roof box comm which

websites which by the way you can keep

up to date with just by following along

with the playlist that I've created it's

full of videos to do with the earnings

of this website of the traffic and all

the work that I've done on it I'll put a

link to that playlist up now and a card

and you'll also find a link in the

description so I'm already logged in

what we're gonna do is install the

plugin so let's go into the dashboard

and let's

plugins add new

they're up to this search box up in the

top right on in there and type in easy

table of content this one odds let's

click install now

let's install let's click activate now

as I mentioned the great thing about

this plug-in is that it can auto insert

the table of contents into your post so

you need to go through every single post

and add it manually and which is great

and that's what we're gonna be doing

right now so let's go into the settings

I can get in this way or alternatively I

believe it's in settings and table of

contents so either way works

let's click settings here

so we've got a few options we need to go

through first is where we want to enable

table contents

so by default the pages is ticked I'm

gonna um tick that I'm gonna go for

posts I only want it on my blog posts so

your posts is fine here's the auto

insert option

and of course if you don't want to auto

insert it don't take anything here but I

do own it insert it into all of the

posts next option is the position for

first heading is generally fine because

a lot of posts you get the you know

intro text so then it goes into the the

bulk of it and that generally starts

with a heading of course you can come

back and adjust if it's not right but

I'm going to leave it at or leave it as

even it has before first heading

so this option here is show when there

is four or more headings present you can

increase or decrease this probably about

right for our thought because you know

any less then you know do you really

need a table of contents so yeah force

fire I'm gonna leave that as it is

display the header label so that's just

like the table of contents header label

here that's fine you can actually change

if you want you might want contents or

page contents you know here's

suggestions you can go with whatever

contents is probably fine

toggle view allows people to open and

close it if you want them to then if you

use that you can initially hide it so

they have to click it to expand it and

they'll leave both those off there now

show us hierarchy I'm gonna see how that

looks and then I might come back and

change it and so it's going to basically

create a hierarchy I'll easy for me to

say a hierarchical hierarchical let's

not try and say that well let's just say

it's going to create a hierarchy using

the different header levels you and I

thought that I actually natively speak

English with you anyway there's the

count song I leave that as decimal

smooth scroll turn that on why not

and then we've got some width options

here now Otto's probably fine but I

actually like a full width table content

so I'm gonna go for a hundred percent

but it's off see up to you there were

some themes here I really like the light

blue but again you can you play around

with these see which one you like you

don't like any of them you can create

your own custom theme here by setting

background colors and title colors and

link colors and all that stuff

here's some advanced options which we're

not gonna need to mess with too much you

can exclude headings if you like if you

don't want them to be featured you can

short anchors are in a lower case not

quite sure why you'd need that or that's

for but let's leave it fact this lead or

leave all of this stuff I don't need to

mess with it Save Changes let's go see

how it's worked

so let's just put that same rage

and let's look at this one I think this

one's got lots of headers

so look here is our table of contents

the overview topic and then if we click

takes us straight down so it's created

the hierarchy as we can almost go back

up as we can see the lovely hierarchy

and yeah I think it looks really good

let me just quickly show you what it

looks like with a few different options

I'm gonna open another tab and we can

play around with it so back into

settings and temperate contents I just

want to show you the

toggle so let me just tick those two

buttons which is to turn on toggle and

then initially hide it and save

so yeah it looks like that it's closed

then you click on that and it pops open

nicely it's that's that

I think it's nice

have it untold but it's up to you maybe

you can leave me a comment on what you

prefer what your thoughts are terms of

SEO and I think it has much of an effect

whether it's told or not because Google

will still crawl it anyway quickly show

you a few the other themes

like the gray I make it a bit Wikipedia

rehang you know Wikipedia as a great

abundance

that's okay okay we'll go a gray because

I put this blue box here mi there's a

bit too much blue so yeah well let's go

with the gray one thing I do want to do

I noticed it

Marge at the bottom isn't quite right

you know there's a little bit more space

it so I think you could do with a little

bit more at the bottom so I didn't see

any options to do that with him saying

so let's just do a little bit of custom

CSS you'll find this code over on WP or

comm there'll be a direct link in the

description you can just copy and paste

it

um into your custom CSS so I'm just

going to create a CSS now let's just you

know margin you think 50 oh no no we

want margin bottom don't we course 50

that's too much isn't it too much let's

go for 30

mmm 40

nice too much thank you 30 was about

right so yeah just go to the wp you'll

copy this code like I am now and coming

to customize and close up additional CSS

and then just paste it at the bottom and

publish

so that's basically it easy way to add

your table of contents looks great

really good fresh Co let's have a quick

look at a couple of other posts see if

it's worked

there we go it looks great doesn't it

hopefully and all that stuff so yeah
