hey what's going on in this video I'm
going to show you how to record a call
on skype and then you'll be able to use
ScreenFlow to edit it alright and Rhett
like render the video alright so I use
ECAM call recorder I'll show you the
settings that I have right here I think
the key thing is you want normal video
quality for sure you can change the
here the frame rate is medium so it
doesn't bog down my machine too much and
the big thing is you want to have
multitrack and that gives you the
capability to separate the files
individually very helpful that will come
into play later
so keep recording recall controls in
front of the in the front during calls
and most of these are the default
alright so this is sort of the settings
that you need here by the way ECAM is a
paid tool I don't remember how much it
was but I think it was like 40 bucks
alright so you go check it out there and
this little call recorder DL very
straightforward when you're on your call
you just hit record and it records it so
that's easy enough and then once you end
up with your video here I just did an
interview with my friend Spencer Hawes
and it's pursuits so I'm gonna I'm
actually gonna do this for real so you
have some options here that you need to
look at I would like to have separate
files it gives me a little bit more
flexibility and it looks like this
alright so separate files will come up
here and you can sort of play with the
levels alright you could play with the
levels and I fix those up later but
generally these are gonna be okay in
fact I'm was monitoring when I recorded
the video all right so I see there okay
here and then that's good to go
so I'm gonna export these as an mp4
that's like what I want to use when I do
a podcast I will actually do mp3s as
well so you can export audio and video
whatever you need to do again separate
files so I'll just hit export and
I will save it here boom so that'll take
a minute or so we'll come back in a
second
during finished it actually took a
little bit more than a minute it's more
like three or four minutes but it's not
a super long time at this point I have
two different files and if we click over
here we can see we have the Spencer
Hawes one and Spencer Hawes two so those
are two different tracks and what I'll
do is I'll pull up a screen flow
document here or I could just drag these
babies right on in there so we have the
two files in there and then I can place
one track here and another track here
and usually what I like to do I like to
mix up the audio just a little bit to
normalize it so I'll remove background
noise I usually knock that down to
something lower and I do that because
one it's not too noisy in the recording
that we had and then I have noticed some
weird like audio like noise floor issues
so I kind of turned this down so there's
not like too much weirdness going on I
don't know the right words here so the
other thing I do is I smooth the audio
levels so this takes a minute or so
depending on how long your video is now
this brings up the levels and it brings
down some levels if they're too loud but
overall this is a positive thing
sometimes I do notice that it Peaks
because it turns out that Spencer and I
have pretty nice microphones because we
podcast so basically I may have to turn
it down just a little bit and that's not
a big deal I'll show you how to do that
once it finishes okay we are done and I
can see you can see the levels down here
they're not too out of control so maybe
I don't need to mess with it too much so
that's good okay and actually they look
pretty good to me I don't see any red
Peaks over here so that's fine I am
going to deselect both of these and I'm
just going to drag over or two videos
here and you'll see that maybe we need
to balance those out a little bit so
I'll play with that later but you get
the general idea
now the cool thing is
like if you're doing some sort of a
ScreenFlow situation ECAM call recorder
actually records all of those I'm gonna
pull another video that I did with my
friend Chris Pearson who is actually the
reason I'm doing this whole video so
give me one second and I'll show you
what to do there if you shared your
screen during the recording you will
export three separate tracks and you see
there's me there and then here's Chris
that's his side and then you get the
screen sharing however you did that in
Skype as part of the export so that's
great so all you have to do in this case
is we will pop it down into the timeline
here and then you can put your actually
I will put this we'll put the screen up
here and all you have to do is make the
ScreenFlow stuff bigger however big you
want that and then you could take each
one of these individual tracks here you
can scoop them down however you want and
this is sort of this is sort of perfect
for a teardown like Chris and I did and
it looks kind of it looks kind of nice
you can see us waving our arms or
whatever it is we're doing and then it's
very you know it's very clear what's
going on in the screen and the screen
sharing and all that stuff and then you
could drag I could drag this down so
that our little thumbnail videos appear
on top or however you want it to go so
that is all you have to do and then of
course you just have to export however
you're going to do that using ScreenFlow
I like to keep it simple so this is
basically all I do
