tutorial video on how to make custom

thumbnails for your YouTube channel if

you're if you're in the online marketing

business if you're an affiliate marketer

yeah this channels for you this channel

is all about making money online

affiliate marketing so you can enjoy a

life of freedom so with that said let's

jump right into it so as we all know

custom thumbnails are super important to

get views on your YouTube videos and on

your YouTube channel they you know and

it's but but it's always difficult to do

that like the pros do it so I'm gonna

show you an easy way to do it

step-by-step okay

free okay this is a free easy way this

is the actual way I'm doing it okay

now I struggled at the beginning on how

to make a thumbnail so I saw other

videos that showed me that how important

the custom thumbnail was it had it grab

you it had to have you know some

eye-catching text and pictures on your

thumbnail so I learned very easily and

very quickly how easy it is to make a

custom thumbnail and you can do it all

for free so I'm going to show you

step-by-step so here's my channel as you

can see and you can see some of the

thumbnails that I have that's my most

recent one but I'm gonna show you how

I've progressed with my thumbnails so if

you look at and I remember my channels

not that large and I've only had 51

subscribers but if you look at my very

first video I did four months ago it's a

picture of me I'm not a bad picture I

don't think you know but anyway it's a

picture of me and then the second video

I did was this and we see the thumbnail

there and I kind of copied somebody some

other thumbnail then the third one as

you can see it wasn't really good at it

you can still see my background my

computer in the background

but I did enjoy doing goofy pictures

like I like you can see on some of these

thumbnails and as I progressed my

thumbnails I think have gotten better

but it is super important that you have

a super catching thumb there i catching

thumbnail because that's what's gonna

get somebody to click on your video and

that's the whole point of it you want

people to watch your video you want to

get views you want to get subscribers so

the thumbnail is the first thing they're

gonna see and if it's not a catchy kind

of fun thumbnail or a catchy intriguing

thumbnail that they're not gonna click

even though you have great value in your

video even though you you know you're an

expert in your niche if you don't have a

great thumbnail it's gonna be hard for

somebody to click on it so I it's that

important so that's why I learned how to

do this so I'm gonna show you exactly

step by step on how to do this now all

these pictures you see on my youtube

channel here are all done with my iPhone

now what I recommend and I'm gonna start

doing also is taking taking pictures

with the intent of using them as

thumbnails so I'm gonna use my DSLR

camera which is going to be a better

it's gonna be a better quality picture

but these thumbnails have actually done

pretty well considering my small channel

so let's get right into how to do that

so what you want to do is you want to

create a free account with canva okay

and as you can see this is my account

with canva it's free to join its

canva.com yeah you just sign up and you

start creating your own thumbnails and

you can see here are my thumbnails okay

so for YouTube what you want to do is

they have they have templates and things

like that but what I do is I go over

here to custom thumbnail okay and I

click on that okay dimensions you want

to use our 1920 by 1080 okay and you're

gonna hit design okay this is so easy

anybody this anybody can do this okay

I'm not really tech savvy but again

and canva makes it really easy easy

super easy so for so you have your

little your blank screen here but you

want to go to uploads now you want to

take a couple pictures with your iPhone

and if you notice some of the pictures I

take I leave a little space right here

next to myself so that I can put text

and whatever else I want okay so I'm

gonna just use this picture but you can

upload an image let's say you want to

upload you hit click upload and then you

go to your you know wherever you keep

your pictures and here's some of my

desktop or whatever but this is then you

just upload you hit open and it'll

upload right to canva so I've already

done that here okay see so I'm gonna use

this picture right here I'm gonna click

on this and it's gonna drop it into the

space here now this box as you see here

is the 1920 by 1080 dimensions that I

set up so you want to make sure the

picture fills this entire box so you're

gonna stretch it

it's rakantha makes it really easy to do

this okay you just grab the corners and

if I can get my mouse to work here we go

there we go so I'm a stretching it okay

so like so okay as long as it fills that

box and then you can move the picture

around within that box okay so let's go

here so now let's go let's use that

right there okay so what you want to do

the first thing you want to do is you

want to go to your filter right here

okay and you want to bring down your

brightness just a little bit and you

want to increase your contrast a little

bit so that's gonna add a little more

pop and a little more color because

remember the the picture is what you're

gonna see on YouTube is not going to be

this large it's gonna be a thumbnail so

you want it to kind of stand out okay

these are things that I learned from

watching other other mentors and their

videos about how to make thumbnails so

so you want to bring down the brightness

a little bit and then bring your

contrast now when you take this picture

make sure you have good lighting I have

a ring light so I use that with this

picture so I know my lighting is gonna

be consistent you can take some outside

when the sunlight whatever it is natural

lighting inside with ring lighting just

make sure the Lighting's decent so your

so you can adjust so you go so basically

you're gonna adjust your brightness down

a little bit in your contrast up a

little bit then you want to go to

Advanced Options right here

okay now saturation you wanna you want

to bring that up because that's gonna

pop the color somewhat okay you want to

bring that up

okay now blur so you want you want it to

be a if you go to the right you can see

how blurry it is down here okay you

can't see my face you can see how blur

it is if you go to the left you get more

detail and that's what you want on a on

a thumbnail remember it's small and

again you want it to pop so you see the

difference right here in my picture

already it's got some color to it it's

got some detail too you can see the

lines of my wrinkles on my forehead

that's okay but on a smaller

thumbnail this this image hopefully will

stand out a little bit so when you're

happy with that so let's go back there

and make sure I didn't miss anything

so we adjusted the blur so you wanted

more clarity or detail I leave all these

alone I don't want to vignette or

anything else and I don't use any of

these filters up here okay I make it as

simple as possible okay so you've got

your your great base picture for your

thumbnail so what do you do next so now

you want to add some text so you come

over to your text okay and you add a

heading okay and then it drops right

into this box right into the picture and

then you can extend you can start typing

right right into the box you can see uh

how to create I can't spell create and

you can stop there and and grabs another

text okay another heading and then we're

going to type awesome thumbnails how

about that okay now if you notice the

text is gray it's it's you can't see it

too well against the background there

awesome thumbnails let's go let's do in

one more text I'm sorry for your YouTube

channel okay let's go with that so how

to create awesome thumbnail so here's

where all the fun happens okay so I can

modify this text very easily first of

all the first thing I want you to know

is that I it automatically defaults a

Abril fat-face whatever font that is

that's the font that you're looking at

here well I like these I use this on

every one of my thumbnails I just like

it you can use whatever you want but I

use the Anton right here okay you see

how it changes that kind of like a box

it's more of a boxed you know setting

and then

I want to probably make that larger

because remember you want to have very

large text because it's gonna be a small

thumbnail okay so now let's let's change

the color because whenever it's grey as

you can see that so let's change the

color so all you do is you come over

here I'm gonna I like the white I want

to make it white so you go to this color

box right here or this icon here and I'm

just gonna select white

okay now that text is white now if I

really want this to stand out okay if I

want really want all this to see how you

can move this around by the way I don't

want all this Texas then I'm gonna move

all this text aside okay over here and

then I'm gonna go to elements over here

and I'm gonna add a shape and this is

where it's really really easy to do all

these are free you have free if page I

always I've never paid for anything I

just used free okay and it in and it

introduces a shape into your picture so

now okay I can make this shape larger to

cover this entire side so so that you

don't see that back wall in the picture

and then now that my text is white so I

want the shape to be black so it'll

really stand out so I click on the shape

and once again I come over to the color

here pick a color and I want it to be

black great so now it's black then I can

move this text that I just created how

to create into the box and you notice

how it went behind the box because these

are these are layers but don't let that

throw you off because it's simple okay I

just dropped the first text behind the

box so I'm gonna bring that text to the

foreground so I'm gonna click on the

black box and then I'm gonna click

arrange and I'm gonna move it to the

back you notice how the text came up

front because remember I put the text on

the screen and then I put the box over

it

okay if I want to make the box come make

come to the foreground I click on

forward but if I want the text to come

to the foreground I'm gonna click back

because I want this box to go to the

background and the text will then show

you see that see how that works okay so

I can move the text around I can arrange

it how I want how to create I can also

kind of tilt it a little bit to make it

kind of fun you know and then I bring

and then I look at this other text okay

so now I'm gonna change this to Anton as

well okay so remember all you got to do

is click on the text that you've created

and then the editing screens come up

right here and then I'm gonna go

straight now Anton is right at the top

now because I've used it once and it

remembers that so I'm gonna click on

Anton there it is okay so now if I bring

this awesome thumbnails down here okay

it's now in Anton but it's in oh it's in

the default gray so let's change that to

a different color let's go with red so

remember click on the text click on this

color icon here pick a color and I'm

gonna go is red okay there it is red now

I don't like that particular shade of

red so I click on that again go back

here it's automatically red but let's go

to here the plus sign and now I can I'm

gonna drag this to whatever red like a

really red red there it is

and there it is see how it changed that

and see how I changed the the color to a

deeper red okay so now I click on that

and now let's let's make it a larger

size because remember we wanted to stand

out so here it is here's another so I

know I've got a lot more text to put on

here so I need to stretch this out a

little bit so I'm going to stretch it

out

stretching out the box which is a good

idea okay let's go back to here let's

stretch this out okay okay so as you can

see I stretch that out okay awesome

thumbnails and it became a single line

sentence okay and I think I need to

stretch this box out a little bit more

there we go okay awesome

how to make how to create awesome

thumbnails okay for your YouTube channel

so now I come to the other text right

here now that might be too many words on

one line so here's how you here's how

you edit this you click on this and you

go back to you start just typing again

for your for your let's stop there okay

click on the text double click let's

change that remember it's on

automatically on this fat face at font

change it to Anton that's just mean

there's hundreds of fonts you can use I

just choose Anton because I like it okay

Anton for your so now I have for your

and let's change that color to let's go

with like a yellow see how that see how

it stands out and it pops okay now we

click on the text again and let's change

the yellow to like a really really

yellow really see I I can move this

wheel around and it changes the color

look at that look how cool that is I can

use that green I mean

let's use a green actually that's kind

of cool okay I'm gonna I'm gonna leave

the green so now I I want to make this

larger okay so I click on that and it's

like 42 I need to make this very large

I'll make it 80 for your I really want

it to stand out so you can move this

stuff around okay I mean you can see

where it see where it see the little

line in the middle right there that

tells you it's centered okay that's

centered this is kind of Center number

it's tilted so I want to move this up

here how to make how to create awesome

thumbnails for your and then we're going

to go to I mean I'm just arranging this

stuff a little bit we're gonna go back

to text over here and we're gonna go to

I mean here's another thing that I could

type in YouTube channel but here if you

click on search and click on images

right here and you just go to youtube

type in YouTube and guess what see all

this cool stuff that you get for free so

I could actually bring this element in

by dragging it here it's always gonna be

large but you can adjust it okay you

make it smaller like so move it around

okay for your YouTube and then kind of

leave it there

go back to text and you type this in and

I'm gonna typing it remember you can

move this stuff around

okay I'm gonna type in the word channel

here I'm going to type that in caps eh

eh NN a yell channel okay now again I'm

gonna go back here I clicked on the the

I clicked on the text there I'm gonna go

to Anton because that's my favorite and

then we can start moving this stuff

around a little bit to kind of Center it

and you know make it more aesthetically

pleasing and then I can put for your I

think I need to make that a little bit

smaller let's go to 72 and then I think

I'm gonna tilt it the other way like

that see how it kind of stands out for

your okay and then I've got YouTube

right here I can make that a little bit

larger I can put it over here if I

wanted to but I'm gonna leave it right

here and then I've got the word channel

okay now the channel I've got all in

caps and let's see let's let's go back

to a color I've got that the Anton as

you can see here and it's at 42 that's

the size of the text so let's make that

larger okay it's got a play

this sometimes alright so YouTube

channel okay and let's see what color do

we want for that let's make that let's

use that yellow that I passed up on

earlier see that okay

there it is and let's see here I've got

little tilts and little you know kind of

a fun little thumbnail here okay I used

a little icon a YouTube icon and there

it is okay and then we can stretch this

out a little bit here and cover all the

basis there's my goofy face that we

edited earlier you know and then you can

add other elements you know like emojis

or something let's say emojis you just

type in emoji did I not spell that right

okay happy face how about that you just

got to play with this but it makes it so

easy because see here we go happy face

so I'm gonna bring this in here this is

free I never pay for anything on canva

keep that in mind there are some paid

little icons and things that you you can

pay for but you know I like I like the

free stuff okay so I can put it over

here and put it on across my face put on

my big forehead whatever you want to do

I think I'll just leave it like right

here like right there and make it a

little bit smaller because I don't want

to take away from what the text is

saying okay I'm gonna do that okay and I

can do a second one let's say let's do

another one

bring that over here in this corner

might be a little bit bigger you just

kind of kind of to play with a size and

and and then there you go guys okay now

I've got a kind of a fun thumbnail that

will hopefully capture peaches

people's attention and you want to you

want to make sure it's as centered as

possible I'm kind of doing this kind of

quickly but then when you're done with

that then you want to download it you

come to this button here and you'd so

once you download it and you download

sorry I didn't hit the right button you

hit download it's gonna download it and

it just takes a you know a few seconds

okay and then you've got it down here on

your downloads and and then you just

save it to wherever you want to save it

or you normally save your pictures I

usually save it on my desktop okay so

then when you're done with your YouTube

video you just you already have your

your thumbnail all ready to go and you

just pop that into your YouTube video in

your Creator studio when you're editing

your your your YouTube video you Bri you

just upload it into your your Creator

studio and your you're set to go guys

and that's how I created these

thumbnails I did it the exact same way

okay I went to canva it's free its first

of all you just take a bunch of little

pictures of yourself with the intention

of using them as thumbnails so take

different angles different facial

expressions look at this one here I was

crying cuz I knew I was gonna do

clickfunnels is dead video so I showed

up you know it's really goofy of myself

you know I've got a few other different

ones here as you can see you know you

know like I was like a secret type of

you know showing you this this

particular one here hey I've got a

secret you might want to know you know

how to promote you know so I just have

fun with it but you have to have a

really good thumbnail like I said so

that you can capture somebody's eye and

capture their attention so as you can

see it's not that difficult to do it on

canva they make it easy

and hopefully the video that I just

showed you will help you in getting more

confident on building thumbnails or

creating thumbnails and you don't have

to pay any money to do that and you

don't have to have a DSLR camera to do

it either all these thumbnails you see

on my channel are straight from my

iPhone and I just made sure that it was

decent lighting that's the most

important thing you have to good

lighting and take those pictures they

take those selfies leave some space to

the size so you can put your text a lot

of thumbnails

you know they they put the text across

the bottom or across the body you can do

that too but getting you know have fun

with it get creative and and don't don't

let the thumbnail keep you from getting

views on your YouTube channel make sure

you know how to make a good quality

custom thumbnail I just showed you step

by step on how to do that if you have
