on how to grow your YouTube channel
there's a thumbnail right there and one
of the main points that I made in that
video is that you have to do more
collaboration and more interviews with
other youtubers okay and other affiliate
marketers as well well with that in mind
I will practice what I preach and today
I want to introduce you to not only a
good friend of mine he's also a relative
of mine his name is Richard Rodriguez he
created a YouTube channel by the name of
million dollar mindset and I think
Richard will be able to give us a fresh
a unique perspective of somebody just
starting their YouTube journey as well
as their online business so guys I hope

back to the channel and today I want to
introduce to you not only a good friend
of mine but he's actually a relative of
mine his name is Richard Rodriguez and
his YouTube channel is called million
dollar mindset and I invited him on to
this video and this to this channel
today because he has been doing
affiliate marketing and he has been
growing his YouTube channel between
three and four months now and it's
always good to have a perspective of
somebody who's at the beginning stages
of their business and their YouTube
channel growth because we get a
perspective of somebody who's really
pushing to grow their business at an
early stage so welcome Richard
appreciate your being on today why don't
you tell us a little bit about your
background and tell us you know what
made you decide to jump in
Victor I appreciate you having me on
well I first started getting me into
computers probably in the early 90s and
I kind of took my first computer part
I've always been mechanical in nature I
was actual auto mechanic so it was kind
of natural for me to start working on
computers and I started working on
computers I started getting into it more
but now that the internet ages has
blossomed and there's so much more out
there I've kind of started getting into
it and mostly because of you you
actually you tell me what you were doing
and you tell me you know that I can make
videos and I could do this and and to
get about into phillium marketing so I
kind of took your lead and I kind of
followed you on that and that's kind of
the the direction I've gone and and I'm
kind of a geek when it comes to setting
up electronics and and what-have-you so
I I figured hey this sounds like a plan
I can make money I can help people I can
take direction let's let's do it this
sounds like something I can do so that's
kind of the direction I've gone into
some all right that's awesome man and
now do you currently work full-time you
have a full-time job yes sir I have a
full-time job - nine-to-five it's
actually mid shift I usually work from
about 3:00 - from 3 p.m. to about 11
p.m. so it takes up most of the entire
part of the day the waking hours so I
have a hard time making my videos and
recording because I only have about a
three or four hour window when it's
still daylight outside as opposed
tonight and want to sleep in the house
so have a you know a few hours window so
I have to have my ideas ready and
everything ready before the time comes
because you know I don't have as much
time and I know you know what I'm
talking about when it comes to having a
lot of time so oh yeah no so so you just
like myself or doing this on a part-time
basis is that correct yes they're on a
part-time basis I'm hoping that this
will take off and I can actually use
this as my full-time position I can
finally leave I know Nathan Lucas
finally left his position that's what I
want to do that's my goal that's what
I'm shooting for so I'm just doing it as
part-time until I could get to where I
can retire
first person to gonna their job is gonna
have to be my wife though oh my god so
is that sure that's your motivation as
to where she doesn't have to work
anymore is that really what's motivated
you to start your business and your
YouTube channel definitely most
definitely my wife is my is my number
one
she's my total concern I want her to be
able to leave her job not work anymore
once I get that achieved then I'm gonna
start working on even growing it more to
try to get it to where I can start
spending time with her and we can do the
things that we've always wanted to do I
mean I know that this is what you're
looking for as well this is what I want
to do I want to have us both to retire
and live our lives and do the things we
want to do and still earn money while
we're out there doing things we want to
do vacation we've been married we were
going together about 30 years I've been
married for about five six years now and
we haven't even taken a honeymoon so
these are the kind of goals that I'm
trying to shoot for awesome man that's
good insight because you know that's
what we all want we want that freedom of
time obviously that comes with financial
freedom and that's that's really what
we're trying to accomplish here is is to
get to a point in our business to where
we can do what we want when we want and
how they want to do it and that's really
that's powerful so congratulations on
taking the step there information
starting your own business with your
YouTube channel and also your affiliate
marketing business so let me ask you
this what is you've been doing this for
you know three or four months I know
your business started maybe four three
months ago four months ago what what
have you from from day one not knowing
really a whole lot about affiliate
marketing and YouTube okay I know you've
done YouTube for your other channels
before but not knowing really how to
rank and you know they all got rhythm
and all that stuff and also with your
business with affiliate marketing name
me in each one of those things a YouTube
platform and your affiliate marketing
business name me one thing that you
really the
learn in the past few months that I'm
completely floored your major like I
can't believe this works this way or I
can't believe that you know III didn't
understand I didn't quite understand how
this really worked until I actually did
it I mean Nate do you have one or two
examples you can give me for each one of
those platforms your business and the
YouTube channel okay well my as far as
my YouTube channel I've learned a lot
from you and I'm still learning a lot I
mean it's an ongoing thing as you know
but the thing that I've probably learned
the most as far as my YouTube channel is
that you have when you make your videos
you have to label them a certain way in
order to rank them and that's kind of
one of the things that I'm working on
it's something that I'm still working on
I mean it's the new algorithm of 2019
it's the way that YouTube wants it and
I'm learning more and more in stage a
matter of fact a couple of days ago I
learned from you a little bit about how
to make the description a little bit
more descriptive of the actual video and
these are the things that I'm learning I
mean there's lots of things go from
thumbnails to you know like being liked
on Facebook and pinning your your
comments I mean all of these things add
up but the probably the most important
thing that at least I found out to date
was how to make a description and how to
make your description very descriptive
of your actual video and I think that's
what helps and keeps you higher up in
the ranking on the algorithm but as far
as my business the things that I've
learned the most it was it's probably
how to build my own funnel I've been
building websites for 30 years now but
as far as building my own following
really understanding the fundamentals of
what a funnel is is probably the most
important thing when I when I build my
website it's if you notice if you go to
my website it's a very very simple
website and that's kind of something
that I had to learn because I'm more
technical in nature I'm more geeky like
I said I like to keep things um very
technical and I had to learn how to just
slim it down to cut the fat in order to
make my website more appealing and this
is probably the most important thing
that I've learned
my funnel or my page that's a good point
because I learned that too because just
from being a consumer of information
myself you know going to certain funnels
or websites and there's a lot going on
some people - people like me can lose
interest so keeping it simpler in my
opinion is better and that's what I've
learned - over the course of you know
the year or so that I've been doing this
so that's a really good point when you
said that well that's awesome
maybe you know when we're starting our
business we have some motivations we
have some people that influence us what
are you know now that you've been
involved in your business and in the
YouTube platform as well because those
two are connected
so tell me a couple or a few of the
people that have had an impact on your
business and influenced you whether it's
online whether it's YouTube whether it's
affiliate marketing mentors or whatever
who has had that who has had a good
impact on you to help keep you motivated
to keep it pushing to help you start
growing your business well I'm glad you
asked that I've had a couple of big
influencers you're probably my biggest
influence I've learned a lot from you i
watch your videos you know whenever you
put out a video pretty much daily I
watch your videos whether it be here on
my free time which is very very little
free time or when I'm at break on break
at work something like that I watch your
videos I kind of study them I like to
watch Nathan Lucas I like to watch big
mark there's several people out there
that I like to watch my what I kind of
focus on or try to focus on is the the
technical aspect I like the lighting I
like the colors you notice I have a
pretty lights back here I kind of I like
that I like tell I like how big mark has
that I like how Nick nimman has it I
like it and I'd kind of like to do a
little bit more like the way they do it
and of course they have great content
the content is great but between you and
big mark you're probably two of my
biggest influencers you're the ones that
I watch and I get ideas from and that's
kind of the direction I went ahead I
love your videos I like that you you
started making more jump edits I like
how you you're just you're just doing
great and and you're kind of the reason
why I want to propel I want it be more
like you know that's a big compliment I
appreciate that but we all have our
people that influence us and some of the
people you named right they're big mark
and Nathan Lucas nickname and these are
all people that have impacted and
influenced me as well so but I've
actually learned a lot from you and the
technical side because like the jump
edits I wasn't doing that until I saw
some of your videos so that just goes to
show it doesn't matter how new you are
to the YouTube platform you can bring
something unique it doesn't matter if
it's your first video or your 100th
video you bring in your own personality
because you're very unique there's only
one Richard Rodriguez like use only one
fake like me go and we'll have our own
personalities and we'll have our own you
know things that we're good at and
you're good at the technical part of it
which is outstanding I actually learned
that from you and I started doing that
so yeah hopefully it adds more value to
our videos so yeah so thanks for that
for that information what is you know as
far as your business goes your affiliate
marketing business what are some of the
products that you currently promote
right now right now I'm actually
promoting legendary marketer that's
actually the biggest one that I'm
promoting that one's gonna give you the
full time income that you're looking for
once the ball starts to roll and it
starts to the monster starts to take a
hold it is what's going to give you that
full time income the life that we've
been wanting to leave the life of going
on vacation and still earning money
being asleep still earning money doing
the things that you've always wanted to
do with your family because family is
the most important thing in the world
this is what you want to do you want to
do things with family anyone have the
money to do things with family so I've
been doing legendary marker but also
just recently and within the last couple
of days I've actually started to promote
super cheap traffic secrets I've learned
that from you and I've saw the value in
it it's
Bregman of 197 and it's nine dollars
which is almost nothing how can you not
want to get in on this deal it's nearly
nothing it's less less than the price of
a taco salad at Taco Bell so I want to
do that so I've started actually
promoting that so these are the two main
things that I'm promoting right now yeah
so I mean yeah Liam James K who created
the super cheap traffic secrets is
actually I've been following him for a
long time since he came out with his his
funnel on the you know the million
dollar a challenge promoting builder all
and a lot of people promote builder
Rossville but I've been following him
and he comes out these incredible ideas
on how to M he's an expert at it so we
all have people we follow and we all
have you know products we promote but to
me that that's probably one of the best
ideas that I've I've seen and we I think
you know we're gonna be really
successful with that product so that's
good stuff
okay Rick I wanted to ask you a question
because this seems to be I've done
videos on this subject about traffic
okay and this seems to be a kind of a
debate between you know what people
think the best type of traffic is so I'm
gonna ask you your opinion I know you've
been doing it for three or four months
now and from the experience that you've
had so far what kind of traffic do you
think is best for your particular or
refer for any type of affiliate offer I
mean in your opinion from what you've
seen and what you've learned in the last
year or four months well to tell you the
truth I haven't had a whole lot of
experience like you said it's only been
a few months but from what I've seen so
far I think the warm traffic that I've
gotten from my YouTube channel and I
used to be a Salesman a long time ago so
I kind of learned a little bit about how
to make traffic work in your favor or
how to make leads work in your favor and
from what I learned then and from what
I'm learning now and again from you I'm
learning most of this is you have to
build rapport with people and the best
way to build rapport is for them to see
you for them to hear you for them to
talk
- whatever the case might be and the
best way for them to get to know you on
a daily basis is to put out videos on a
daily basis and if people get to know
you they're used to hearing your voice
or used to hearing the inflections of
your speaking and they're used to seeing
you they're more apt to follow you or to
at least trust you as opposed to some
random person that shoots them an email
or text message says here please look at
this please sign up please sign up
they're more apt to listen to you if
they're actually seeing you and that's
what it's all about it's like watching a
television show a series that you've
been watching the last two or three
years on television you recognize those
people you like those people you get to
know those people as opposed to just a
random commercial that comes out every
now and then so I think warm traffic
from my youtube videos is probably about
the best the best way you can get it
done because those people want to be
there as opposed to people who clicked
on it because of clickbait right right
now that's actually a good that's a
really good analogy that you put with
the television shows because television
shows have especially the good ones they
have a knack of building up characters
and then you know you have a connection
with that character even though they're
not real but in our minds they are so we
want to continue watching them and
that's kind of what YouTube and what
you're doing branding yourself and
that's what I'm trying to do also is to
brand ourselves so that people want to
watch our videos and you know and
actually they want to see what we have
you know the and of course as long as
we're offering value obviously and but
yeah it's a great analogy I like that
you know with the television show thing
good now earlier we talked about you've
been doing this part-time so how often
what are you committed to doing as far
as put creating content are you doing it
on a daily basis are you doing it two or
three times a week what kind of schedule
do you have and why do you think and why
did you decide to do this type of
schedule
well okay generally what I do is I try
to put out a video every day except for
Sunday because of my schedule and my
wife's schedule we don't really have
time to spend with each other except for
Sunday so usually Sunday's my date has
been
with family so I'll usually put out a
second video or I'll put out a third
video on Friday and then or second video
on Friday that way I'll have an extra
video to schedule and put out on
Saturday while I'm spending time with my
family and again we don't have a whole
lot of time so I'm trying to get it all
I'm trying to get as many videos as I
can out there with quality content but
yet I still need to have time with
family and that's what it again is what
it's all about is to be able to spend
time with family do things with family
so I usually just do it six days a week
I usually make video six days a week so
you find time even working a full-time
job to create content six times a week
that's impressive because that's
something that I struggled with myself
at the beginning but then I made a
commitment that I wasn't gonna let
anything stop me and that's when I
really started working on but you're
doing this at the very beginning which
is very impressive when do you find time
to do these to make this content well
generally like I said after I come home
from work I start or sometimes while I'm
a break on at work what I'll have what
I'll do is I'll watch a few videos
whether it be your videos of nathan
lucas i watch diana castillo as well i
watch some of her videos and that's
where I get ideas yeah she's great I get
ideas in order to make my video and kind
of like we've discussed before when a
person makes a video and it's catchy and
you decide hey this is an idea I want to
run with we get ideas from one another I
get ideas from Diana I get ideas from
you I get ideas from big mark I get your
ideas and I just put my spin on that
idea and I make that video my own
because it's me and it's the way that I
want to speak about that video so we all
do this we kind of share ideas but when
I have time to film them is generally in
the morning before I get ready to go to
work I usually do one daily I try not to
make them too far ahead because it's no
longer relevant at that time so I try to
I try to make them daily and that way
it's more natural as opposed to planned
the only times I'll make an extra video
is generally on
that on Friday I'll make two videos on
Friday generally and that one I will
release on Saturday but most of the time
it's during the day before I have to go
to work and again I go to work at 3 p.m.
so I usually have a few hour window okay
that's good so so you are committed to
doing videos six times a week and that's
awesome so you're basically managing
your time very well and that's what I
learned too that I've struggled with at
first was managing my time so
congratulations on that because there's
a lot of people that you know that are
out there that fine I'm having a full
time job
and excuse not to create a content and
you've obviously are not using that as
an excuse you're actually embracing hey
you know what I got to do what I got to
do if I want to grow my business if I
want to grow my channel and so kudos um
congratulations to you and that's
awesome to hear that yeah I know it's
difficult it can be difficult because of
our time constraints but if you make it
happen you're you are making it happen
so that's awesome so what is your what
is your goal for your YouTube channel
what is your end goal I mean are you
trying to use YouTube as a platform to
grow your business are you trying to be
an influencer on YouTube kind of like
Nathan Lucas who's kind of both you know
he's guy has a huge business affiliate
business but he's also a huge influencer
you know it talks about mindset
motivation kind of like what we all what
I do and you do as well but what is the
end goal for your YouTube channel you're
trying to get a million subscribers or
are you just trying to what are you
trying to accomplish with a YouTube
channel really is a question well what
you have to do is you have to you have
to set goals I've actually made a video
on this you have to set goals my goal my
first goal is to be able to get my wife
to retire that's my first goal so I need
to make enough money per month to to at
least match her monthly income and make
that on a steady basis so she can retire
so she could be at home and spend time
here enjoying the life that we've always
wanted to leave now after I've get her
situated I want to get situated and I
want to make my money on top of what I
make for her to be able to replace my
income
so we can both retire and then of course
have start making more money after that
to put money into the bank for our quote
unquote retirement at that point right
so we can have just that extra money
when when we're when we're done so we
can go down to Boca Raton or wherever
they would again if the case maybe when
you go to retire right so this is what
what I'm looking for but you have to set
an attainable goal I know sometimes we
want to shoot really high and a hundred
thousand subscribers is really high for
us because we've only been in in this
business for a little while but it's not
an impossible goal right now my
subscriber ace isn't where I want it to
be but I've been noticing Diana
Diana's actually working she's trying
really hard she set herself a goal of a
thousand people within a week and she's
more than halfway there so it's
attainable it's you know it's a little
bit lofty but it is attainable and it's
great to shoot for the stars and if you
fall a little short that's fine but at
least you've gained a lot more on the
journey than you did if you just let it
just happen you know so this is what I
want to do my main goal right now is to
be able to get my wife to retire that's
my main goal right now okay good good so
I will I've kept you on for a little bit
already and I want to be gonna introduce
you to my audience and what your YouTube
channel is about by the way guys gonna

content out there out there we all have
it we all have a lot of the we're all in
the same niche but we all get it from
different perspectives from somebody
different and we made connect with
somebody different so that's why it's
real important that you know you have
other people's channels on your list
there and check out his channel because
it's he's got some good content there so
I want to ask you one last question
Richard and I'll let you go I know you
got to get ready for your 9 to 5 but you
know you've been doing it for three or
four months now I don't consider you you
know a rookie or newbie anymore in this
business even though you still have a
lot to learn
by who and will be all day if there is
somebody that you knew right now that's
never done this before never been on
YouTube before never did affiliate
marketing and he came to you and you put
your arm around him and he said I need
some advice what is the one piece of
advice that you would give somebody who
would be a friend of yours
to guide them in the right direction to
help them just based on the experience
that you've had over the last year for
months what would that piece of advice
be well my my best piece of advice would
be just do it it's kind of like I guess
you know there's there's a sneaker brand
that says right just do it the more you
do it the more you make videos the more
you start filming yourself the more you
do your editing the better you're gonna
get it you're not gonna get great and
then start making it you have to start
making it and then you'll get great so
that would be my first and my main piece
of advice just do it just put it out
there your content will get better with
time your editing will get better with
time your lighting with time everything
will get better but you just gotta do it
and that's what it comes down to when I
made my first video a long long time ago
looks like you said earlier before I
knew anything about the algorithm before
I knew anything about SEO before I knew
anything about pretty much anything I
just did it just make your videos and
they will get better with time yeah I
preached the same thing and I actually
did a video that I posted on my youtube
channel about the first video I did a
year ago and it wasn't clear that you're
right you're 100% right the more you do
it the better you get the easier it gets
the more comfortable and confident you
get so that's a great advice for anybody
just wanting to start off their YouTube
channel we all have our hang-ups and
fears but like Richard just said get in
front of the camera just start creating
some content you're not gonna like the
end result but that's okay you know
it'll get better with time just like
what he said so
