hey it's doug huntington here from niche

site project and i'm sitting on the

porch today it was a nice day out so

it's just a window behind me but there's

a nice reflection of the mountains over

there so today is a Q&A so we got a

question from Leroy and essentially this

is all about domain speculation so a few

months back Leroy purchased a domain I

won't mention exactly what it is or the

event that we're talking about but this

is a domain where it was pure

speculation so for example if I went out

and bought the domain 20-24 Olympics Los

Angeles sorry there's cars driving by

here but 20-24 Olympics Los Angeles calm

and I just thought maybe the Olympics

were going to be there so Leroy saw this

situation a while back and it turned out

the city that he selected was actually

chosen so he owns a nice exact match

brandable type domain and he doesn't

know what to do with it so in my opinion

you have a few options so we'll break it

down into two main areas so he can

either sell the domain or not sell the

domain so first off not selling the

domain the options that Leroy may have

our to you know build it out and show

adsense ads on there or potentially sell

out you know just banner ads on there I

guess you could also consider like lead

generation for potentially hotels and

different vendors that may may be

servicing that event that is happening

so so that's that's one option if you

keep it for yourself you you know you

would have to build it out take care of

the content

and you know this in this particular

case is several years away so you

actually would have plenty of time to

build out the content and get writers

and organize it and you know it's again

I won't mention what the event is but

it's far enough away where the age that

you would have on the domain is pretty

amazing so so that's one area keep it

and sell ads in one capacity or another

the other option of course is to sell it

so there you have a couple options as

well you could try to auction it off

just go to go daddy auctions register it

on there see if anyone purchases it you

can build it out to some extent with

some content and then you know attempt

to auction it off in some other place

you also could try to just you know

contact people cold to see if they may

be interested in purchasing the domain

now that would be much harder and I

don't know how good you are at sales or

you know finding leads for that but that

could be really time-consuming and you

know unless you're really good at sales

it may not be a very good use of your

time so you know another another option

you may consider is you know hybrid of

the two where maybe you build out the

site to some extent and you know get

some age on it and then maybe in a year

or two or more you know you try and sell

it then so you know at that point you

may actually have some traffic on the

site there may be some revenue so that

you're able to sell it now the tough

thing when you're selling a website you

know most of the time you're selling it

on revenue so you're actually profit not

revenue you're selling a non-profit and

if it turns out that your sites like

making zero money because there's no

traffic then you're gonna have a hard

time selling it for a profit however you

know since this is domain speculation

you may have more more leeway to

actually have people pay you more money

for it so bottom line is you could

you could keep it and try and sell ads

or you can sell it and try to your make

money on the domain speculation side if

it were me I would probably build it out

a little bit and then try and sell it

just so there is some intrinsic value on

there but I've actually never purchased

a domain in this fashion or tried to you

know auction went off or any sort of

speculation so this is all observational

and you know not really sure the best

route and the other thing is the events

so far in the future that you know

thinking me thinking about you're doing

something you know five plus years from

now it's kind of it's kind of crazy

especially in the website area so i

really i'm not sure the right advice for

you but keep us posted on what you

decide and maybe we could track this

over time and see you know see how you

do with it and if anyone has other
