today we're going to take a look at this

is why I'm broke calm this is an

interesting site because it's sort of

based on like some viral properties

versus the normal SEO kind of site that

we look at so I'm going to break it down

a little bit tell you what I think of

the site and I'm gonna tell you if I

think you know average people can do

this or if it's an easy kind of site to

replicate my name is Doug Pennington

I'm from niche site project and I pair

together Amazon affiliate sites with

project management put a framework

around it so we have a bit of a

repeatable process to create these kind

of sites so let's get to the video now

this site is a very interesting one I

get questions all the time about how

hard it is to do a site like this if

you're gonna create it from scratch if

it's even possible and I'm just gonna

tell you a little bit about it in my

impressions so number one if you haven't

seen this site it was hugely popular I

guess it still is very popular but it

sort of came out of nowhere a few years

back and basically it's built off a

viral component because there's really

not much content on this site so we see

you know right up front on the homepage

they're just trying to get people over

to Amazon like immediately like this is

a link to Amazon and that's sort of like

their main goal so if you look here

there's a lot of you know random

products and they are meant to sort of

catch your eye and be viral

so we'll just sort of arbitrarily look

at this so ultra telephoto zoom lens so

if we look at this and we actually like

click right here we'll see that there's

the picture and then you have a little

bit of copy here like two and a half

sentences or so and then a huge price

tag and basically like that's all the

content that's on this page it's

virtually the same as what you would see

for any of these products here the sites

that I work on they have content they

have a lot of content the main goal is

to rank in Google and get people to your

site through organic search

traffic right like that's the goal the

traffic for this is why I'm broke

primarily comes through social sharing

and viral sharing just in general so

they're not ranking much in Google okay

so they don't rank much in Google they

rely on people sharing on Facebook

tweeting pinning or sending via email

and basically that's what the whole site

is here so you go to another item and

it's a cool looking you know image if

you're lucky there's a couple images

like this one and if you click there

this is a Kickstarter campaign it looks

like so sometimes its Kickstarter

depending on who they're trying to you

know get it revenue from so here's a

camera lens coffee mug and this actually

is a link directly to Amazon here and so

is this little button check it out so

you can see that this is sort of a

different take on like an affiliate site

so what's my opinion on it do I think

it's possible to create a site like this

yeah anything's possible right and the

grand scheme of things anything's

possible but I will tell you that this

site's been around for a while it has a

lot of press in fact a future video I'm

gonna go over the about page and sort of

the origins of this is why I'm broke

calm but in essence unless you know how

to get viral traffic to your site it's

gonna be very hard to recreate and

replicate what this is why I'm broke has

done so I mean they have some cool

different categories and you know you

may be able to you know get a little

traffic if you get some viral post but I

can guarantee you that it is not easy to

manufacture a viral post or viral

content in general and this is why I'm

broke is sort of optimized around that

that's why they're able to operate

that's how they got so big that's why

they got all the press coverage that

they got a few years back I'm Doug
