hey miles Bechtler here miles Beckler
calm and this video is about the 13th
month pay now the 13th month pay is
something that you need to keep in mind
with your Filipino and Filipina
outsourcers and teammates I'm going to
teach you in this video what it is why
it's important how to compute your 13th
month pay and really kind of just help
encourage you to make sure that you're
13th month pay in the Philippines it's
actually in their labor laws it is a law
for Filipino companies to pay their
employees a 13th month so essentially
they work all year twelve months in the
u.s. we get paid twelve months but in
the Philippines come December time they
get an extra month's pay now this is as
I said a law in the Philippines it is
kind of something that a lot of
outsourcers do and a lot of people who
run outsourcing based companies they
seem to think it's okay to slip up and
not pay the 13th month and this video is
all about letting you know that it is
vitally important if you want to keep
your teammates if you want to keep them
happy and keep them on your team you got
to take care of them
see culturally moving beyond that law
because we can get caught up in well I'm
an overseas company I'm a US company I'm
a Singapore Hong Kong company etc I get
all of that I understand that but
culturally it's expected they go all
year it's I mean this is end of the
money this is like the end of the year
bonus for what a lot of us in the u.s.
would potentially like in a desk job
would expect and culturally it's
something they're expecting and if
you're not hitting them on their
cultural kind of like expectations
there's a chance that they're gonna
start to look elsewhere when their
friends are all getting their thirteenth
month pay doing outsourcing work and
their friend who got a 13 month pay last
month is like man I just got a 13 month
pay is great like man I really wish my
employer did that for me oh they don't
well hey we've got an opening at our
business do you want to come work for us
bingo you just lost a key teammate
because you were too cheap or you were
ignorant and didn't understand that
there was a thirteenth month pay thing
so when do you do the thirteenth month
payment personally I do it right now I
do it at the end of November the law for
the businesses in the Philippines is
that it has to be in there
get by December 24th you got to keep in
mind if you're doing this through up
work or if you're doing this through
like a third party system there can be
up to a two-week delay from when you put
that money through to when they receive
it so I would say no later than the 1st
of December if you're paying them
directly that's even better but I like
to give it to them literally like right
at the 1st of December so how do you
calculate it the simplest calculation is
to look back through your records and
take how much you've paid them in the
last year and then divide it by the
number of months that they've been with
you so if you've had someone on your
team from January 1st all the way
through the end of November you can take
that number that you've paid them from
January to the end of November / 11 and
that's essentially the 13th month pay
and obviously you still make the 12th
month payments on time as well if you
have someone who's new with you and they
started mid-year let's say they started
August 1st for example you would then
take what you've paid them from August
1st through the end of November and you
would just divide that by however many
months that is I believe is about August
September October now that's like four
months had the count of my fingers for
that one and you're literally just
trying to take what is the average that
they have earned in the time they've
worked with you for that year per month
and then you just pay them that for the
month now some people think oh well I'm
using up work or I'm going through these
kind of third-party things I don't
really pay them directly so I don't
consider an employee they're just a
contractor and I hear you on that I
understand what you're saying and maybe
from a technicality standpoint that's
that's doable but I still pay all of my
people and have her years and years on
end through up work I go in I figure out
how much they've paid and I give them a
bonus through up work because here's the
trick and here's what I'm trying to
communicate and if you've seen my other
outsourcing videos you understand these
are people they have families they have
lives and they have feelings right and
we need to we need to take care of them
if they're actually an asset to your
business and they're helping your
business would it be worth it to not
make this payment and potentially lose
them from your business next year and
have to go back to finding someone and
training someone new oh my gosh that's
horrible so what I do is I always I'm
always focused on the long term
play in a long-term game here my whole
last video was all about playing that
long-term game and delaying
gratification and taking care of your
future self and paying it forward for
yourself and your business and this is a
big way to do that because when you get
great teammates and I have some
excellent teammates in the Philippines
I've got at least six or seven employees
in the Philippines who are pretty much
full-time somewhere 3035 hour a week
mark and I cherish them I've become
friends with them I'm planning a retreat
to go hang out and bring them all
together and ultimately they run my
business when I go dark for a week or
something because I fly across an ocean
to go into a conference for three or
four days and I'm speaking and I'm
masterminding and then I go to another
mastermind and I'm gone for two weeks
and my business still works efficiently
and it even grows my social media grows
my reach grows my number of leads my
number of sales goes up even though I
haven't been engaged in my business
that's because I've got a kick-ass team
that I've built most of it is in the
Philippines and so I take care of them I
want them there next year I want them to
be so happy that I'm their boss and that
they're a part of my team and that we
pay on the regular that they would never
consider looking for another position
because they love us we get them we
fulfill their needs which is you know
this 13 month it's something that's
absolutely expected so if you're working
with outsourcers and independent
contractors in the Philippines make sure
you put in your thirteenth month it's
not that big of a deal for you the pay
is so different if you're earning US
dollars or Euros and if you're earning
good money and you're actually running a
business you got to treat it like a
business and treating like a business
means taking care of the employees and
teammates who make your business work so
get those payments in if you haven't
already it's really fun to see the
reactions it means a lot to them to be
one of the good guys if you will or gals
one of the the business owners who gets
it it really means a lot to them and it
will keep them loyal and excited and
hungry to keep working and keep doing
more for your business which is the
ultimate ultimate goal here
so make your thirteenth month payments
before the end of December before
December 24th at the very latest and
please get them in by December 1st and
just keep growing your business take
care of your team because
they're the ones who take care of you
again I'm miles better I thank you very
much for your time give me a thumbs up
