I just finished my morning ritual right
this video about building habits now the
biggest thing that I've learned about
building habits is that the habit is the
most important thing meaning a lot of
people to get so caught up in the
distance the duration the length the
amount and they don't recognize that the
act of doing it the habit is the most
important thing because if you can get
the habit down and make it an automatic
part of your life then the results will
follow everything else will happen after
that so let me give you guys an example
I used to do cardio every morning and
run for about an hour a day and then I
do a weight session later on in the day
now for the last few months I haven't
been doing any cardio and so I wanted to
recreate the habit in my life now
getting back into running an hour a day
it's not like I'm just gonna start
running an hour a day and I recognize
that I need to build the habit the habit
is the most important thing so this
morning all I did was I ran for 10
minutes okay that's it ten minutes and
I'm not gonna get much benefit from
running from ten minutes but what it
does do is it reestablishes the habit so
by making it as easy as possible for you
to actually do the thing that you want
to do and build the habit then what's
gonna happen is you're going to
establish the habit then everything else
will follow after that so running for 10
minutes a day it's very easy it's very
simple anybody can do it
and then eventually it's gonna lead to
me running 20 minutes 30 minutes 40
minutes 50 minutes an hour a day so the
habit is the most important thing let me
give you guys another example of this
your morning ritual a lot of people they
aren't consistent with their morning
ritual because they make it too
complicated they make it too big of a
thing and they're starting from scratch
and going from doing nothing to all of a
sudden doing an hour-long morning ritual
is too overwhelming for a lot of people
so what I propose to the people is just
start with five minutes a five minute
ritual start with one thing you know
established a habit get that one thing
down get it a consistent part of your
life and then once you do have that down
then add another thing to your morning
ritual then add you know make it into a
10-minute ritual then a 15-minute ritual
and then as long as you want to make it
so again the habit is the most important
thing if you procrastinate to go to the
gym or do anything you know just just
get your ass off the couch and go to the
gym
one minute and then leap okay just do
that every day because just the act of
doing that going to the gym is building
that habit you don't have to work out
for an hour just get there for a minute
or two minutes or three or four or five
minutes whatever seems simple in your
brain and then do that again and again
and again and then you're gonna
establish the habit of that I learned
the exact same thing with managing money
that the habit of managing money is more
important than the amount a lot of
people think they have to have a lot of
money in order to manage it or to invest
it and it's a limiting belief start with
whatever amount of money that you have
right now again it doesn't matter if
you're managing a dollar okay because if
you can manage a dollar then what's
gonna happen is when you have a million
dollars you're gonna have the habit of
managing that also so the amount is not
that important guys the length the
distance the duration none of those
things are important to have it is the
most important thing get that down a lot
of people for example to they they don't
give because they believe that you know
once they have a lot of money then I'm
gonna give I believe that the habit of
giving is the more important than the
amount that you're giving so for example
if you don't have money to give to a
homeless person start with 25 cents okay
everybody has 25 cents you know just
give 25 percents and establish the habit
of being a giver in your life and then
once we have more money then you can
start giving more money as time goes on
same thing you know I remember for
myself I used to always see these
fundraising campaigns that would come up
and I would just give $1 okay because I
just wanted to train myself to be a
giver in this life and that having the
habit that every time there's an
opportunity to give I wanted to to give
and so again it's not about the amount
guys don't let your lemony beliefs stop
you from doing a lot of these things
just get in the habit of doing it make
it as simple and easy as possible for
yourself and then as time goes on once
you've made it an automatic part of your
life then you can extend the duration
and the amount to whatever you want it
to be okay so the habit is the most
important thing always remember that
don't overwhelm yourself make things as
simple as possible because complexity is
the enemy of execution the more complex
you make things the more complicated
that you make things then the more that
you're gonna procrastinate and not do it
