How To Spy On Your Competitors' Facebook Ads! 3 Free Tools To Grow Your Swipe File





hey miles Becker here miles Becker calm
and in this video we're going to look at
how to spy on your competitors ads on
Facebook now you can use these ads that
you're spying on them that you're
pulling from their Facebook advertising
campaigns in several ways and Before we
jump onto the computer here and jump
into the tools themselves to go over
what they are and how they work a little
kind of I don't want to call it a
disclaimer but let's just chat for a
quick second about how to use this the
right way to use this stuff and what
you're actually looking for so first and
foremost we don't plagiarize our
competitors we don't copy our
competitors and the goal here is not to
create swipe and deploy type activities
here you really need to be authentic in
your marketing and you need to make sure
that you are coming from a unique
standpoint the goal of spying on your
competitors advertisement has a few kind
of reasons behind it number one you're
trying to find out what's working for
them right their advertisement is simply
the entrance point into their funnel you
can go on from finding a successful ad
that they've been running to literally
reverse engineering their entire funnel
and funnel hacking their entire funnel
by following that advertisement down to
the squeeze page opting in yourself
seeing what the sales page new OTO is
all the way through their funnel and
this is going to help you understand
what they're selling how they're
positioning it in the marketplace what
their unique selling proposition is all
of these kind of key ingredients all the
way down to what's the big idea
right what's their unique mechanism this
is all going to be hidden within their
headlines within their sales copy and
it's for you to study to analyze what's
going on in your market place so you can
figure out exactly how you fit in
because you need to have a unique idea
you need to have a unique big idea you
need to have your own unique mechanism
that's different from your competitors
if you're simply going to use what we
talked about here to go copy what
they're doing duplicate it out run the
same ads on your end and pretty much
just swipe and try t
o steal their
business it might maybe doubtfully work
about that well for like two days and
then it's going to completely fall apart
and the whole goal of this channel the
whole goal of everything I'm teaching
you
is to give you the skills you need so
you can do the proper research so you
can build a long-term business and to
build a long-term business you need to
find where you stand in your marketplace
so as we jump into this just keep that
in mind right the goal here we're doing
marketplace research we're seeing what's
working for them yes we can borrow ideas
and components but ultimately you want
to create your own unique campaigns
based around the information that you
found and more importantly potentially
you're trying to find your own unique
place within the market right where you
fit in within that marketplace so
there's three actual tools we're going
to talk about on there but the first one
I'm recording on it's my cell phone and
you have a cell phone and first and
foremost you need to be an actual user
of Facebook it's so important now
honestly I just buy a facebook if I
didn't have to have an account there for
advertising I would not be on Facebook
I've cancelled my account at least three
separate times in my history of having
an account there so I'm not fan of
Facebook but I realized that as an
active advertiser who spent tens upon
tens of thousands of dollars I need to
understand that ecosystem I need to
understand what people are publishing on
Facebook and a really good example is
these new kind of like colored
backgrounds that Facebook is encouraging
users on mobile to run with so now when
you type in text or a text post on
Facebook Facebook's encouraging you to
put a colored background you may have
seen these large white texts big
Smiley's on like a pink or a purple or a
blue kind of a gradient color background
this is a very new trend and since I'm
active on Facebook I see this trend
happening and it gives me my aha moment
aha I need a test on some of my ad
campaigns running ads that look just
like this I want to see how well those
work if they work compared to the other
kinds of ads that I'm running why
because all the billion plus two billion
users on Facebook are now seeing these
kinds of status updates so if my ads
look like these status updates great I
can kind of find my way into their
hearts I can find my way into their time
line so they trust me and they kind of
go forth and engage with my ads in the
way that I'm hoping right the second way
that you use Facebook on your phone is
gold visit all your competitors websites
get their retargeting pixels onto your
browser and then when you go back to
Facebook and you're browsing Facebook
take screenshots of their advertisements
build your own swipe file outside of
these three tools that I'm going to show
you because these tools a most of them
are paid and I don't think you need the
paid version of them and B they're not
going to capture every ad that's ever
presented and if you're in a really kind
of unique or a small niche then you need
to kind of step up and do that next
level of research if you don't know who
your competitors are or if you've gone
to your competitors websites and they're
not retargeting you on Facebook that's
fine you may want to consider following
some of the marketing greats out there
going to their websites opting into
their funnels to get those retargeting
pixels on your browser so when you go
back to Facebook you're seeing some
great advertisements buy some really
really smart marketers Who am I talking
about
Ryan Deiss digital marketer Frank Kern
Mike Dillard Evan pagan Brendon Burchard
Dan Kennedy there's a few of them go
like their fan pages there's good chance
you'll be getting put onto the
retargeting list there go visit their
website or opt in again you need to
become a student of marketing not only
in your niche but as marketing in as a
whole right you got to understand what
works and what works in some of these
bigger niches that are way more
competitive than the little niches will
absolutely translate into your niche but
it requires a unique twist right because
I can't go take exactly what Dan Kennedy
is doing in the marketing world and
apply it to my angel meditations niche
it doesn't it doesn't translate in that
way but I can look at what he's doing I
can take the ideas of okay problem
solution ad oh he did this in his
imagery I can understand the reasons why
he did what he did in his ad and then I
can figure out how to implement those
kinds of strategies in my ads with the
right copy that reflects and that works
with my target market okay that's enough
talking here let's jump onto the
computer now and let's look at these
three tools so you can get a little bit
deeper and you can get a lot more access
to a lot more ads from Facebook a lot
quicker see on the computer in sec
alright let's jump into these tools but
a quick reminder I don't recommend these
tools that they're paid level you don't
need to use them for what they are what
we're looking at is kind of their free
levels that they're giving away to try
to hook you in to use their services but
again I don't recommend you use their
services beyond simply using this
resource to find the advertisements in
your niche so the first one is Addis
press o and define this it's actually
kind of hidden on their site so you type
in ad espresso and then you want to type
in ad lot or a gallery
I think ad library would work as well
and you can see here it's this top one
it says Facebook ad examples it's
Academy slash ad examples you click on
that there if you just go to ad espresso
com at the bottom in there footer you'll
notice right here it says examples and
this will get you to the exact same spot
so you could go to ad espresso comm and
click there this is their ad gallery
right now you can see they've got over
22,000 nearly 23,000 ad examples and you
literally can just browse them right
here and the home page is just going to
show you some of the ones they think are
the best and at some point they're going
to get you to opt-in to get more
information or more targeting but what's
really cool is you can type up here you
can do like digital marketer if you want
to spy on the digital marketer team
who's a very smart team and you can see
a lot of so it looks like some of these
aren't actually the digital marketer
there's the brand so you can see the
brand name is up top and just because I
use digital marketer it found ones that
have relevance to digital marketers but
I mean instantly just typing in digital
marketer I'm able to see what a dozen
plus two dozen more and they will
require you to opt-in to get 12 more ad
examples I think it's okay I do not use
their service for advertising I don't
recommend you do the power editor is far
superior another one let's say Tony
Robbins right we've used him
as an example before let's see what kind
of ads pop up for the Tony and you can
see Tim Farriss Tai Lopez audible
audible so they don't have any Tony
Robbins ads today no Tony has some out
and I know the other tools we have
actually get into that another cool way
you can use this is on the browsing
function so I always look at the
newsfeed desktop right that's the most
important one to me but you can even
look let's see you have a fashion based
brand you can choose fashion and beauty
and I think that auto-update it right
there and you can see here's L'Oreal
Paris L'Oreal USA
and you can drill down deeper I don't
know anything about this niche so I
wouldn't know where to go or whether
what to do to start one more just for
fun that we've talked about in the past
Gulf so right we can look up by the
person's name by the brand name by the
relevance by the subject and here you
can see all kinds of different stuff
that comes up on Gulf you've got
everything from Groupon whatever this v1
is that's obviously a golf swing
analyzer hard rock hotel so you can see
kind of what's going on and who's
targeting these different niches and
what you would do is search for your own
so that's the first one that's a
distress oh it's pretty good the next
one is addicted dot IO that's a di cted
not a B D so it's spelled goofy but it's
a startup that's how they roll and here
again it's kind of similar right Tony
Robbins you just search and find ads now
they've got a database of almost 300,000
ads which is pretty spectacular and you
can see here we're getting into actual
Tony Robbins so you notice I did the
same exact search on these two and I'm
getting different things and that's
because their database is pulling
different feeds from different ways you
can even see Wow Gary Vee actually did a
sponsored post on the news feeds for him
and Tony Robbins talked that's pretty
spectacular I didn't realize that and
this is this is the game right like you
just you have to do the research and
what you're looking for what what you'll
find is when you find a brand that is
advertising on Facebook that is
absolutely kind of a competitor of yours
what you're going to find out is that
their headlines and what they put inside
of the actual ad copy and then
you go look at their funnels and find
out exactly what they put on their
funnels that is literally their their
big idea is going to be wrapped up in
their their unique mechanisms going to
be wrapped up in there and if you see
this headline used in all of their ads
on Facebook and on their squeeze pages
on their website then you know for a
fact that is tested right that is
working for them so let's do um Rich Dad
Poor Safety advertises I'm literally
just playing with this I have not
searched it you you would have seen an
autocomplete show up so you can see
right here he is popping up and
financial workshop free real estate
workshop free financial workshops so
he's doing local targeted advertising
working to boost attendance to his local
events interesting if I was doing local
events I would pay attention to what
he's doing but all in all these are
pretty weak ads if you ask me like this
as far as a headline a call-to-action
this is absolutely rubbish advertising
and I would keep going until I found
somebody who's like really crushing it
and this is this is where your
competitor does research in this day and
age everybody's everybody once the well
I just want to swipe into flight I just
want to push a button and be done I
personally spend dozens and dozens and
dozens of hours doing research
researching my niche researching other
niches you could see like Frank Kern
here attention consultants and coaches
right he's got a huge call-out right at
the very beginning very big then he goes
into a question would you like to get a
copy of my newest book free its
unreleased and I'd like feedback okay
cool free plus shipping funnel gigantic
image of the book we've got the call-out
up top so what does this tell me so I
can run an ad for my niche attention
angel meditation lovers would you like a
free copy of this new meditation for
free its unreleased and I'd love to get
your feedback before I start selling it
right like the goal is not to swipe and
deploy the goal is to take and analyze
what's working for smart people and then
to implement it inside of our funnels
Dan Kennedy and Glaser Kennedy GK I see
that's Glaser Kennedy in your circle is
what that stands for
and
you can see here these are their ads
these are some really good copywriters
so again question imagery answer right
question and answer we've talked about
this in my ad types I will link to the
different ad types or the the different
ads that I've analyzed I've analyzed
some of these folks as ads and I will
link to that video here so you can get
more deep analysis on the ads that's not
the goal I've probably gone too deep in
analysis already but really what we're
looking at is the tool and there's all
of these different kind of like analysis
right you can see what ran in last 24
hours last week last month you can look
at specifically which buttons
I believe the learn more button is the
most commonly use in the most effective
from the data I've seen and you can look
at what kind of art what kind of
responses people are getting right if
you want to look at an ad that gets like
over a hundred people app angry right
see what stirred up some people
brilliant you can see what didn't work
for others because any ad that gets a
high angry percentage is going to get a
low relevant score and going to get a
high cost so if you're doing food or if
you're doing something and you want to
see exactly what's getting people angry
so you know what not to do perfect this
is a way you can do it if you want to
find out how many people love right find
ads that a lot of people are loving
which generally means a higher relevance
score for you which generally means
higher quality traffic and better prices
you simply trigger the the love
mechanism over here or the love filter
and I'm just doing all what 230 or 207
ads and they have 2,500 ads that have a
hundred people loving the ads or more
and this is just even a great way to do
niche research and see what's working
what do people love on it and I think
this is really powerful types of
research so man talk about clickbait
headlines right here you've seen these
kinds all over the place right but the
goal here again is to look and find out
what's working and yes we want to kind
of like follow what's working for our
competitors in our niche but when you
expand outside of your niche and you
start to look at the other niches that
aren't in competition with you and take
the things that are working for them
especially when they're smart marketers
and then you adapt them to your niche
that's when you really create success
and that's why I think my wife and I
have been so successful with our brand
and our platform is because I've studied
and I've been a constant study of so
many of the Great's of copywriting and
marketing and I've integrated all of
those ideas into our kind of obscure
super deep niche that there's not really
that many Pro marketers in our space so
we're able to stand out as some of the
best and have the best calls-to-action
really get our hook or a kind of Big
Idea our unique mechanism dialed so
addicted I Oh is number two let's go on
to number three and this is swiped Co
now swipe Co goes a little bit beyond
just Facebook ads and you are able to
get the Facebook Ads right here you just
click on all types and I believe we get
onto Facebook and you got Facebook Ads
right there so yes we can look at the
Facebook Ads you click search they're
going to pull it up what do they have
they don't have the largest volume of
them but what they do is they do deeper
analysis on things and this is a paid
service that somebody's putting together
and it's for students of copywriting so
swiped dot codes really actually a quite
a great website but you can see you find
the digital marketer here and then you
click on the view swipe it takes you
deeper inside of the ad and oftentimes
he'll tell you why he thinks things are
working the way they are so you can see
how it's got these little dots around it
and he talks about like a cartoon theme
was used for the most ads for the cup of
coffee hook it creates of our playful
innocent vibe so you're getting a little
bit of analysis on these ads and you can
see there are several ads that he's
covering right here from several
different platforms so this is the
Facebook version but you also get to see
what they ran on this would be like an
adsense or an AdWords type advertisement
you know banner ads you get to see a
little bit more of what they're doing
let's go in and look at one more I want
to show you one that says controls right
here
survival life this is a brand from the
digital marketer team Ryan Deiss and
Perry Belcher their goal is to do a
billion dollars a year online so they're
man they are some of the best at
launching products and getting things
out so they are definitely ones to study
and you're going to notice what they're
doing is they're showing you
specifically with these little boxes and
you can hide the boxes you could just
click that there and it hides kind of
analysis on things but it's showing you
exactly these are the email copy of what
they ran here and he's telling you why
they did what they did in their email
copy so you can learn and at the bottom
he's got the key takeaways and it's
really trying to help you understand why
they did what they did and that's why I
really like this system in this site is
because it goes a little bit deeper than
just like here's the app right they're
not just scraping and displaying lists
of ads he puts in time to do the
analysis on them and to show you what
he's doing so this is a three series
email sequence you can see he does a
fair bit of copy on how this all works
and that's why he doesn't have as much
content here is because they're all
getting analysis but they're really
showing you all of the different parts
right the pre head this is the head this
is what he talked about below and the
why right everything that's highlighted
in these little red dotted hash lines
and he tells you exactly what to take
away is what he thinks came from it so
as a student of copywriting swipe Co is
one that I've followed for a long time
and you can kind of come in here and
watch you can go to like sales copy -
and this is where it gets really good
and this is where this one leads the
other ones in the dust
so like short copy like a short copy
sales copy like sales letters pretty
powerful stuff there's it looks like
there's only one of them here but Jason
flattened Ian he's pretty smart marketer
dude's been around for a very long time
making millions online for a long time
squeeze pages you can go look at some of
the different squeeze pages that they've
analyzed here and you can see here
they're in different niches right
they're not all from the same niche I've
analyzed quite a few squeeze pages that
you can see the Motley Fool and you can
see exactly why he thinks they work and
what works and why it works and this is
the power behind it and this is why I
like to cite I've probably said that a
couple of too many times here one more
search just since we did golf in a
couple other places I'm going to do all
all and I want to see what comes up for
golf so we can see if niche specific
searches do well here which I believe
they do so you can see there's two long
text golf sales copy if you know who
John Carlton is John Carlton is an
absolute copy right
he's a copywriting gangster
actually calls himself a copywriting
rebel to be specific he studied under
Dan Kennedy and Gary Halbert I believe
and his content is like this is the kind
of stuff that if you're in the golf
niche you should be handwriting out his
sales letters every day to really
understand what he's writing he also
came up with the the one-legged golfer
headline if you've ever heard of that
about how I was embarrassed until he
went up and swing the club with one golf
leg of any outdrove me and it was
straighter and what I learned from the
one-legged golf golfer type concept but
this is this is super powerful copy
every word in this was so well thought
out because that's how John Carlton
works he is that level of a copywriter
and I mean it goes into everything you
can do fitness right whatever your niche
is you can find it and again if you
don't find your niche in here
specifically that's okay you can keep
looking and really it's about being a
student of copywriting I think I think
it's really important to understand why
these people are doing what they're
doing inside of their ads not just to
swipe what they're doing if you're just
swiping what they're doing you might get
a little run you might get a little bit
of a work so you have oh he's got these
swipe studies down here there's this one
right here it says swipe study at the
bottom so he actually does deeper
analysis and studies and that's that's
my whole goal here to help you
understand is these tools will show you
the ads that other people are running
are those ads successful or not
you really don't actually know at the
way they're swiping them when you get to
this level here and when you're looking
at the right people I mean Ryan Deiss
and Perry Belcher don't put out much
that doesn't work right they run more
tests than just about anybody out there
Frank Kern Mike Dillard Evan pagan
Brendon Burchard all those guys are
really on top of what they do but this
actually goes deep into showing you some
of the different retargeting updates you
get and it's really powerful stuff to
understand how this all works and why
they're doing what they're doing so
that's it that's those are the three
tools that I really enjoy you've got the
swipe ko you've got the oh goodness
addicted IO and then you've also got the
add espresso tool I don't really
recommend you go paid level on any of
these I think you can
get the great information that you need
from the free system it just takes time
digging in researching and then once
you've research and you pull them out I
take screenshots of them I file them in
a separate file folder on my computer
that I call my swipe file it's FB space
swipe I know right where to find it I
categorize the different advertisements
in there based on either if their niche
relevant or if they're from a great
marketer when I'm looking to run a new
ad when I'm looking to start a new
campaign when I'm looking to do another
split test I go inside of there and I
look okay what are other people doing
what works for me laughs what's a new
way what's a new angle what's a new
approach that I can take that I haven't
tried yet that has a high likelihood of
converting how do I figure that out well
what's worked for these people okay hmm
they have the call out then the question
then the answer okay I'm already doing a
question-and-answer ad maybe I'll try
putting a call out on top on this next
one that might be the hypothesis I get
to run on my next ad or my next split
test all in all I just wanted to show
you that the date is out there the ads
out there the information you need to
really kind of self study and understand
what's working and Facebook advertising
is out there it just takes you putting
in the time it takes turning off the
electronic income reducer and the
television and spending a bit of time
doing the research and reading and
studying and thinking analytically why
are they doing what they're doing that's
been one thing man I just it puzzles me
when I see advertisers doing things that
are totally new out of left field I'm
like wow why would Ryan Deiss ever why
would Frank Kern ever do that and then I
think about it on my walks and it's
ideas come to me of my meditations are
in the shower or when I'm laying down
for bed I'll jump up and I'll have to
write down an idea I have because it all
starts to synthesize when I start when
you start asking yourself the right
questions and those right questions are
why are they doing this why did this
work what did their target market think
about this what emotions are they going
after for this what's their hook what's
their big idea here
what's that unique modifier that sets
them apart from all of their competitors
right and when you start to understand
what put them apart from their
competitors and why they're doing what
they're doing it helps you understand
how you can put yourself apart from your
competitors
and then you can understand those little
things you can do that your competitors
aren't doing
to stand out to get a bump in your
conversions and to ultimately grow your
list and grow your business online again
