you got to have habits habits of working
hard and being disciplined you also get
to know not just how to work hard but
how to work smarts you got to know how
to use your time properly because in any
business any goal that you have there's
there's a million actions right there's
you got to do lists it's all these
things that you can do but you got to be
able to identify what are the most
important thing is that by doing them
are gonna generate the most amount of
money or make the biggest difference the
biggest impact okay there's some called
the 80/20 principle which is that 20% of
what you do is gonna produce 80 percent
of the results out of anything so you
always got to know what are the most
the one thing by Gary Keller you gotta
identify what's that one thing what's
the most important thing you know for me
when I started my business I was I was
doing everything and sometimes you got
to do that when you start a business you
got to play all the different hats and
all the different roles but then
eventually if you're still doing that
you're playing every position on the
team then you're not really able to
master and accelerate the one core
position I have to look at everything
that I did I was like you know what I
can outsource this I can outsource that
I can delegate this I can delegate that
okay this one area a content creation
that's what I'm going to dive deep into
that's what I'm gonna master because
that's the thing that that I'm the best
at in my business that only I can do
that I want to grow in that's my
strength and I got a master I got to
improve that even more so I can get
other people to do all those other
things for me
social media marketing so the search
engine optimization the the bookkeeping
and all those different things so that I
could focus on my core strengths so
that's working smarter being able to
maybe even hire people outsource things
use software okay very important my
brother I'll share with you his story
I've got an older brother who's nine
years older then he's Ashley my
step-brother but we're pretty close my
brother also worked in the family
business he had actually worse than my
myself and my sister and you know he
grew up with my dad you know working
with my dad a lot and developed a really
good work ethic and so he actually
pursued he left the family business in
his 20s and he actually got into a lot
of credit card debt a lot like 50
thousand dollars credit card debt and I
was a really bad situation in his life
and he he sort of makes certain
sacrifices he started he actually just
lived in my dad's warehouse in an office
for a period of time he he took extra
construction jobs on the side doing
renovations and and and things here and
there to make an extra couple thousand
dollars and eventually was able to pay
off that debt and then you know in his
late 20s he decided to go to university
for learning business and he was just
not really sure what he wanted to do
with his life but he did that for a
while but it's a construction when he
was doing these renovations it's
actually doing really well on the side
and he works his ass off I mean evenings
weekends like he had no life he's going
to school at the same time so he was
just working intensely making a big
sacrifice to get himself out of that
situation that he was in so what
happened was my brother started doing
really well with construction and he
decided to leave the family business and
pursue his own business and so built his
renovation business and Vancouver called
reliable repairs and renovations and he
built it up and he became a
multi-millionaire from that you know he
built up this big company these big
renovations and in that kind of business
you know he had to build his name at
first but eventually he was able to
charge way more than everyone else
because he was so reliable a lot of
contractors are very unreliable you know
and you hire them and I don't show up or
there's so many issues that involve
whereas for him he was able to target a
higher end market and you know and that
kind of business - there's so much
there's so much margins like you know
cuz you're they're basically going
through you for a lot of the parts of
your house like the faucets and kitchen
supplies and all that he's able to get
it at wholesale and then jacked up the
price a lot so he's making a ton of
money from doing this so he built up his
business but the challenge was he didn't
have much freedom you didn't have much
time just making a lot of money he
invested his money but he just had no
freedom and it was something he just
wasn't really passionate about long term
so a few years ago he got was interested
in building an online business and he
saw what I was doing he saw the success
I had and so he came to me and wanted to
know how I was doing it so I taught him
some things about publishing online and
coached him and helped him with a few
things and he went on to succeed faster
than anyone that ever I've ever seen
like within 4 months he was making five
six thousand dollars a month from this
and then he was able to scale up and now
you know just had months of 80 thousand
dollars a month and he got into coaching
and helping people too we developed the
software together and he's done
different things like that
I'm like wow that's so amazing what I
realized from that is that the
difference between him and others as he
already had the mindset he already had
the confidence he already had the work
ethic and he worked his ass ass off it
wasn't like it came like easily for him
I mean he worked so many hours and spent
so much time and he was just he already
was a very smart intelligent person and
savvy in a lot of different areas so he
was able to take something and just
accelerate so fast with it because it
wasn't this the strategy that I gave him
he had the same course that you know
other people have been able to buy to
for me the same strategies the
difference was his mindset his work
ethic and himself so he was able to
enter into that and even for myself
today
there's no whatever business model did I
pursue I'm gonna be able to accelerate
it faster than probably the average
person just because I already have the
right police already have the confidence
already have business experience I
already understand some of the core
foundational things the mastery mindset
that no matter what I do I can
accelerate it and that's not just for
business any area of your life when you
have success principles down then you
accelerate things a lot faster so I find
you know the mastery mentality and just
the mindset of a person that maybe even
goes beyond that that is the most
crucial thing that's the most crucial
thing and what is probably the number
one characteristic the number one trait
to be successful in business is
resourcefulness resourcefulness you got
to find the way you got to find the
answer so you got to do what it takes
you know you know someone that is
resourceful finds the way to come up
with the money finds the way to make the
time finds the way to find the answers
they find the way as people that I know
that I work with they don't realize
there's Google available you can find
the answers or they just are always have
a story or a belief that's preventing
them from from going for it someone
that's resourceful they don't let
anything stop them there's no excuse
there's no story you know for me I
remember times in my life I didn't have
the money but I found out I was
resourceful I wanted to go to this one
seminar in New York I didn't have the
money for it I was like you know I want
to put on a car wash fundraiser I called
a gas station I was like I want to do a
car wash on a Saturday I'm gonna bring
in more business for you guys because
people are gonna get gas and stuff while
they're waiting for the car to be washed
I called two or three friends I made
these signs said car wash fundraiser by
donation I stood at the side of the
street flagging down cars the big smile
on my face brought them in and then one
or two people would wash the car and I'd
tell them it's by donation you can give
whatever want five dollars ten twenty
dollars I shared why I'm doing this I
want to go to the seminar I want to
change my life I want to become a better
person for my community people would
give $10 $20 you know I remember this
one person gave me $100 right and I that
in that day I think I made $800 that's
me being resourceful I remember times I
didn't have the money for things I
decided to go work in construction on my
weekends I'd hop on the SkyTrain
six o'clock in the morning and have to
take an hour ride out and have to do
demolition and physical labor and then
you know I'd be covered in sawdust and
dirt and everything and I have to get
back on the Sky train go all the way
back and you know my whole body would be
sore be so exhausted and repeat that
same process while I was also doing
other things that's being resourceful
you know I remember at one point I also
wanted to raise money so I put on a
poker night call some friends we're
gonna do a poker night half the pot is
gonna go to the winner other half it's
gonna go towards this you know what I'm
trying to raise the money for you know
so being resourceful in that way you got
at you got to do that but an unresolved
person's like oh I don't have the money
this give up they don't even they don't
even consider you know I never for me I
sold my car I sold my playstation I sold
my TV you know all these different
things because I was committed so if
you're not resourceful you're gonna have
a very hard time in business in fact if
you're not resourceful maybe business is
not for you because in business you got
to be a gladiator you've got to be a
gladiator there's gonna be adversity and
challenges you got to be able to push
past that and I'm not being mean and not
saying that but if you are limiting
yourself you're being mean to yourself
because you're preventing yourself from
being who you really are and what you're
truly capable of so you have to be
creative you have to be determined you
have to be resourceful
you got to find the answers you know I
remember times man I didn't know how to
figure things out I remember trying to
figure out WordPress and and certain
programming things you know instead of
just being stopped oh I can't figure
this out I learned programming I learned
okay what how does HTML work how does
CSS work I started learning these
different things and I didn't give up I
was resourceful I started looking online
trying to find people that had the
answers that could help me to be able to
solve the problems that they have you
got to be a problem solver you got to be
able to solve problems as they come up
because there's always gonna be problems
I always could be challenges that show
up business a lot more so than a job or
career because you're responsible for it
there's always fires that you got to put
out that you got to be resourceful to
finally I've had times where my website
goes down I got to be resourceful what
do you do right so you just you're not
you can't hold yourself back or limit
yourself you've got to step up in that
moment and solve the problem
