hey miles here miles Becker comm and
this video is all about the path to
mastery now this video is going to have
multiple layers of meaning for you
specifically because if you're watching
my videos I know that you're embarking
on some sort of an internet marketing
adventure and you're probably focusing
those internet marketing efforts on a
specific niche a store a product you
created etc so this applies to both of
those aspects at the same time to the
internet marketing side of things and to
your normal niche and we're going to
dive in to understand what are the
required steps and what is the path to a
tree to achieve true mastery in both
your real niche and what you're doing
and in internet marketing since you're
embarking on that as well so the first
part it's actually three components and
two for a quick minute before I
introduce and help you understand how
the third component plays in so the
first two is all about learning and
doing really learning versus doing and
as kind of Gary Vaynerchuk says it's all
about the clouds and the dirt right so
right now you're watching this video you
are in learning mode and we do have to
take in a certain amount of learning so
that we can kind of understand what the
strategic approach is to whatever
problem we're working on whether that's
an itch problem or an internet marketing
problem right but the real trick and
this is where most people fumble most is
that we need to flip quickly into the
doing side of things because it's in the
doing and it's in the application of
that which we learn where we really
truly learn it at a level that it
integrates right so the way our brain
works we have multiple layers of the
brain and when we learn something
academically through watching learning
etc it registers at one level at a very
surface level within the brain when we
physically get engaged in that process
and actually build out the DIY thing we
looked at or implement the new campaign
system whatever it is when we actually
go through the motion and physically put
all
of the pieces together ourselves we
actually begin the process of rewiring
our brain it physically changes the
structure through the neuroplasticity
and all kinds of cool scientific stuff
that I don't know all that much about
but this is the fun stuff I read you're
interested in how the brain works and
rewiring the brain and all of that I
really like dr. Joe Dispenza 'he's
content right now I've been reading his
books and going through his material and
it's really helping me understand this
at a deeper level and the way he puts it
is that the first step is learning so
that's what our head write and then we
got to get our hands dirty so goes from
head to hands and here's a really really
interesting thing most people not most
people but a lot of people have a
difficult time putting into practice
what they're learning because it can
almost become addictive to stay in that
learning phase this is where we start to
hear phrases like you know I'm doing the
analysis of paralysis bit or I just keep
consuming content and that's why I put
out so much content before about the
idea of produce more than you consume
and if you stay focused on producing and
putting out content and actually
engaging with what you're learning and
taking action on what you're learning
you will actually learn it at a deeper
level and you'll be creating the kind of
work product for your business that can
generate content traffic through a
content marketing campaign you can
physically create funnels run traffic
etc etc and along this process you're
going to learn all of those little
things that are engaged that go well
beyond the trainings that most people
who only stick til the learning mode
will never understand to use a real
world example for you let's look at
riding a bike right so you can read
books on how to ride a bike you could
watch youtube videos on how to ride a
bike and you could think to yourself I
get it right I know how to ride a bike
I've watched the book I've read the
books I've watched the videos I know how
to ride a bike and some people in the
internet marketing space jump from mad
they read the books they watch the
videos they know how now they're going
to go create a course and they're going
to sell how to ride a bike but here's
the thing when you go out to a bicycle
for the very first time all of that
learning that you did although
videos that you watch that told you
here's how you stand here's how you
start and here's how you move and blah
blah blah it means nothing right the
first time you get on a bike and you
physically go to ride the bike it's
awkward your balance is off it just
doesn't make sense until you have that
physical experience of obtaining balance
through forward motion on a bicycle the
exact same is true for whatever niche
you're going into and the exact same is
true for internet marketing right we
have to actually engage and implement
what we learn and then here's the thing
right what do professional bicycle
writers do they ride their bike every
single day for hours and hours a day for
years I'm talking years right people who
excel at the art of riding a bike to the
point where they can help someone who's
good get to great at writing said bike
they have put in absolutely years and
thousands upon thousands if not tens of
thousands upon tens of thousands of
hours and that's part of why I'm so it's
so easy for me to communicate a lot of
this internet marketing stuff started in
both early 2008 1999 so to make money
about 2003 right I've been making money
online kind of technically for I don't
know 14 years or so I've done a lot of
things I've fallen off the bike so many
times that I now want to guide you in
the right direction but just watching
isn't enough you got to get in to where
you're implementing right you got to get
to where you're taking action so those
are the first two steps and I think for
most people in the internet marketing
side it's really important to stay
focused on getting doing the minimum
learning you need to be able to be ready
to take action then jump into the
unknown just like the first time you
start to pedal that bike it's wobbly
it's confusing it feels awkward at first
that's okay
just stick with it if you put in a few
hours every day pushing your funnel
forward pushing your content marketing
forward doing your 90 day challenge etc
if you put in that time every day all of
a sudden it gets easy just like riding a
bike did for everyone who ever engaged
and got beyond that first wobbly point I
like to use surfing
as an example if you've ever tried
surfing it's probably the most difficult
sport I've ever attempted but once it
clicks after days and days or months or
even years of falling in the water once
it clicks it is absolutely phenomenal
and that's the same process right so
where do you go from there right so and
this is probably where you're at in your
niche business you're you gained that
experience in something maybe you're
teaching or get you're wanting to teach
organic gardening right and you've been
a gardener for 10 years you're like mom
I have done the work in gardening right
you've seen many seasons you've seen
many Springs and falls and you've been
able to test the things and you
understand all the intricacies of soil
density and pH balance and I'm really
out of my view I don't even know what
I'm talking about anymore but let's say
you're in that position you're like
miles you know I have that level of
expertise here from all the doing what's
next this enters the third phase of
mastery and this is really when you gain
that next level of mastery and that's to
teach right and that's where I'm at
right now with you and I made the
conscious decision that I wanted to
teach everything I know about internet
marketing about Facebook Ads about
WordPress about content marketing
because it gets me to understand that
which I'm explaining that much better
right so if not until I gained that
massive amount of experience and here's
how I gained extra experience in the
space when I was first getting going my
wife and I had our niche business going
on I started doing work for others I
started doing WordPress development and
marketing services for local businesses
for two specific reasons number one I
needed money right I was flat broke when
I started on my adventure down this
internet marketing path and when I say
flat broke I mean I was $50,000 in debt
from student loan debt that was crushing
me I didn't even know how to make my
payment so I needed extra cash flow and
I knew that I could take these skills
that I was learning from building my
niche business and apply them to the
local massage therapy store I worked
with local hotels I worked in that kind
of a a tourist location so there were
all these kind of touristy type places
that I was able to help them develop
their websites make sure they showed up
on Google help them essentially get
their social media
campaigns up and running effectively etc
etc so during that about two to three
year period when I was doing this kind
of work for all sorts of different
niches
I was tripling and quadrupling down on
the experience right I was getting more
doing time and it wasn't just doing for
my wife and my business and I wasn't
doing like all agree I'm a travel
blogger nothing like that I was
physically engaged with local business
owners who wanted the results from
better internet marketing and I jumped
in and I figured it out and I
encountered challenges on their websites
I encountered challenges integrating
their e-commerce stores with their
WordPress sites and I learned things
that I never would have learned how I
only focus on my one information base
niche site and this has made me a much
better internet marketer it helps me
understand how the game works at a much
deeper level and that has prepared me to
get to this point of teaching I went to
a conference from Hay House publishing
it was a very expensive publishing
conference and they were explaining how
you create essentially a best-selling
book and they said that number one you
have to figure out how to do it and you
have to be able to do it for yourself
number two you then have to go do
one-on-one sessions or you have to do
one-on-one services where you help
others obtain the result that you
obtained to prove that you can duplicate
that what you do once you have done that
dozens of times over then their theory
was you start doing group coaching live
events etc etc and that can also be
obviously digital events and kind of
membership program so you go from doing
it for yourself then you go to a
one-on-one situation to helping others
with it and then you go one-to-many
creating the group situation and their
philosophy was at the end of going
through all three of those phases you're
in a position where you do have a level
of expertise that you can put it
together in a book in a manuscript
format and then your position to
potentially have a chance to actually
sell a book to a publisher and hit the
bestsellers list because they know
through the publishing industry that
people who try to skip from I did it for
myself let me just go teach the world
how to do this without getting that
one-on-one kind of consulting that
feedback loop the one-to-many consulting
the feedback loop to prove that their
philosophies and their methodologies
work not just for themselves but for a
variety of people in a variety of
applications that was the key and this
is what I want you to understand as
you're moving forward building your
niche business you're probably working
on phase two right from the doing to the
teaching on your niche business and
that's why you're looking for the
internet marketing is because you're
trying to figure out how do I get my
course on whatever it is out to the
world great you're working on that
teaching and as you learn more through
the feedback from your students that's
how you develop your teaching modalities
and make them that much better for
future students at the same time you're
learning internet marketing because you
want to bring traffic you want to bring
leads and ultimately paid customers and
paid members into your niche business
and this is where you're probably going
to be spending a lot more time in the
doing phase and the doing may look like
creating YouTube videos it may look like
creating split test split testing
funnels running Facebook pay-per-click
ads creating blog posts and that doing
phase in internet marketing to be
perfectly honest with you it takes years
of hard work there's so many sales
letters out there there's so many push
button systems that promise overnight
riches and they make it sound easy in
their sales material which has for some
created a false belief that this
internet marketing stuff is actually
really really easy in theory it's simple
I can explain to you all the nuts and
bolts which I've done on these videos in
practice it's really really difficult
because it takes a lot of focused energy
done very consistently over long periods
of time and most people don't stick with
it long enough to get the kind of
compounding results that they need to
truly build a business so as you're
moving forward realize and honor the
fact that you're playing two games at
the same time there's the niche game
which is what you do and what you teach
and then there's the marketing game
which is what you're learning on this
channel how you get your message out to
the world you're probably going to be at
different phases in both of these and
you're going to have to learn how to
balance that for yourself
and the last way I want to wrap this up
before we go today just one more quick
minute the basic idea is that if head
hands heart right you need to learn it
which is your head which is what you're
doing right now then you have to go get
your hands dirty you got to get hands on
and that builds your understanding of
that what you've learned to a deeper
level then once you know it by heart
right once you're truly an expert in it
at that point go teach others how to do
it whether it's your aunt who's trying
to sell jewelry on Etsy or whether it's
your neighbors friend who owns a coffee
shop downtown
and would like to rank higher on Google
go get your hands dirty take what you
know by heart right because you've
learned it you've done it for yourself
now you know it by heart go apply it to
many different areas to get as much
experience as you can because you'll
find that what you learn through this
app through the application through the
practical application of what you learn
you learn at a deeper level you
understand the whole game and everything
becomes easier when you gain those extra
levels of experience that's really what
I wanted to communicate with you today
it's one of two ways you can look at it
either way it's you got to learn then
you got to do it then you got to teach
it right learn do teach is either way or
if you like it better heads hands heart
you got to learn it first you go to your
hands dirty then you know if I heart
that hand phase I gotta let you know
that's in years of practical application
and if it's like miles but I don't I
don't have years to wait really what's
going to happen in your life
anyways over the next few years go to
the same job every day got the same
commute every day great put an hour or
two aside turn off the electronic income
reducer which is the television turn
that off for one to two hours a night
and put out a piece of content every
single day then enjoy time with your
family then enjoy doing the things you
love to do right you can sacrifice as
much or as little as you choose the more
time you sacrifice and commit to putting
out content to that hands-on phase - the
hands in the dirt phase to where you're
really doing that doing phase the more
time and energy you can put in there in
an over long sustained periods of time
the faster your business is going to
grow and if it sounds like a lot of work
over the next two three five years
to grow business online it is but here's
the cool part you reach a point at some
unknown point in the future depending on
how good you are and how great your
messaging is and how big your market is
etc etc all things which you test via
what you've learned from videos on this
channel but once you really get that
business working you're able to ease off
the gas
you can put out two or three pieces of
content per week and at that point you
have a sustainable business that can
take your annual income number that
you're earning right now and it can
match that thing down and that can
become your monthly income I know people
who took their annual incomes and
they're now making that weekly I know
people literally we're making 30 40
grand per year back in the day they're
literally generating that much revenue
every single week at this point and I
know it's possible for you because I
know it's possible for me and I have
nothing special other than the fact that
I made the decision over about 15 years
ago that I was going to give up partying
I was going to give up the weekend
barbecues when all the friends were
getting together I was going to give up
the happy hour and I was going to focus
on figuring this game out because I
wanted to take care of my financial
future and I wanted to create freedom
for myself financial freedom time
freedom and location freedom and now
that I've crossed that bridge I'm
reaching back and I want to help you
cross that bridge too it takes a lot of
effort so if you've watched to this

out tired and doubting after a month or
two because you feel like you've been
going full-speed you're sprinting
sprinting sprinting that doesn't change
the fact that in a marathon it's 26.2
miles to the end and no human can sprint
that so you have to find your own
personal marathon runners pace in that
doing phase get as much
experiences you can and then stick with
it get it done go through the motions
know that you're building a better
future for yourself and for your family
pat yourself on the back every day that
you upload a video every time that you
upload a blog post pat yourself on the
back
celebrate your little successes and get
back to it every single day to put out
that content because it will work for
you just like it's worked for me
you will gain mastery in both your niche
business and you'll gain mastery on the
internet side of things and that just
opens up so many doors to an incredible
lifestyle that you deserve I want to see
you create the freedom in your life that
you deserve and you can create that it
takes a lot of work and that's ok we
become better people for going down this
path I've kind of jumped on my soapbox
