this video we are going to ask the
question are you prepared and are you
going to be able to weather the
impending storm that's coming you know
there's been a turn of events in the
world of Amazon over the last month that
really hit home with a lot of people
about this kind of a concept and through
the last 10 to 15 years plus of building
a business online I have seen many many
storms and I've seen friends and I've
seen people I know and acquaintances
literally lose their entire business and
their entire cash flow because they were
ready or prepared to weather the storm
my wife and I have always had a strong
philosophy which I'm going to share with
you in this video about how to always be
preparing ourselves for this impending
where it comes from so let's take a
really good recent example and this is
the Amazon getting kind of stuff that's
been taking place over the last month so
Amazon's made two major changes that
affect the financial statement to cash
flow in the income of many many
entrepreneurs I know dozens if not
hundreds of people who have been
negatively impacted by these changes to
the Amazon terms of service the first
change came in late februari 2017 when
they decided they were going to start
charging more for FB a fulfillment by
amazon services so all the people who
jumped in on the FBA Gold Rush started
buying ridiculously rubbish products and
toys and things from china shipping them
out to the amazon warehouse facilities
and selling on amazon that whole process
is now costing more and their margins
just shrunk again on the other side of
Amazon Amazon's affiliates just got a
total update on their affiliate
commission structure and it's no longer
based on the volume of sales they drive
it's now category based so some people
who are generating upwards of eight and
a half percent commissions as of last
month this month will only be making one
percent two percent or four percent
commissions and I go to ask you if you
built your business entirely on Amazon
and you were
comfortable making your four thousand
dollars a month at your eight and a half
percent commission and that just dropped
down to one percent or two percent how
are you feeling do you feel like you
weathered the storm that answer would be
no of course not and the whole theory
here is kind of that concept from a
military that too is one and one is none
you know in everything my wife and I
have done we have always sought to a
test the model prove that it works first
but be the moment we have proof and the
moment things are working we want to add
on additional streams of blank whatever
that might be whether it's traffic great
weather vendors great weather its
affiliate promotions that we're
promoting great whether its products
that we have great we built one website
that's working well perfect let's build
a second website that way if something
catastrophic happens to the first
website we've at least still got our
second website and this website has its
own merchant account its own hosting
everything about this website is
completely separated from the first
website do they work together absolutely
one drives traffic to the other they
have they have kind of their own unique
space in our ecosystem if you will and
they each support each other but they're
one hundred percent completely satisfied
so are completely separated so if
something happens to one of them were so
good we've got the other one working
then you might notice I've been building
out this channel aggressively right I'm
not selling anything yet I don't have a
product I'm building I'm simply building
an audience guess why right I'm
preparing just in case so now what we're
going to have my wife and I will have a
whole new asset and I don't intend to
build products around this this isn't my
goal but I do intend to build an
audience base just in case if I ever do
need to monetize for any way shape or
form a reason let's say the other
business completely something happens
there that's catastrophic outside of our
control right I've got this entire asset
that I've been building that I could
leverage if I put out word that i
started doing one-on-one consultation I
guarantee you I could book a week or a
month work within a few days tops I
luckily don't have time or need or
desire to do that but this is the kind
of philosophy and the approach we've
taken for our business if you go way
back to my first business model that
I've talked to
when I was direct linking visitors from
myspace through my affiliate link to
affiliate websites and generating
affiliate income that works great for
about a year and a half and then what
happened myspace is Terms of Service
change and my income literally stopped
overnight I've seen this so many times
back in the day when the Google organic
SEO game was easy and everyone was just
just spam put out search engines fan put
out as much content regardless of
whether it's fun or good or quality it
doesn't matter just put out as much as
you can go get as many backlinks as you
can regardless of how quality they were
and you'll rank this definitely worked
for a couple of years but then what
happened the google slapped the
algorithm updates of Panda of
hummingbird they happened and guess what
a lot of people I knew who were making
10 20 30 grand a month their businesses
literally dissolved they went back to
ground zero they had to start over why
because they were they were reliant on
one traffic source and they were reliant
on one income source in the previous
video I did we just cover the three
pillars right it was the three pillars
to content marketing and the reason why
I'm so bullish on a three pillar system
is that no matter what happens to one or
even two pillars you still have a third
pillar and even if one of those
completely disappears your audience will
still be able to find you and connect
with you at the other ones a couple of
years ago Facebook organic marketing was
hot we grew our fan page up over the
900,000 fan mark in the course of about
two years it really took a little longer
than that but the massive amount of
growth somewhere like 700 to 800
thousand visitors grew within about a
two year period guess what's happened in
the last year they changed their
algorithm you no longer can get that
free reach anymore and you have to pay
to get reach on facebook at this point
it is one hundred percent of pay-to-play
system but are we complaining about it
no we're adapting with it we're dealing
with it and we're moving forward always
working on the next traffic source which
is Pinterest right now by the way and
I'll cover in a future video my exact
pinterest marketing
so we're doing the best we can with
Facebook I still got my organic traffic
going from back in the day and we're
adding on the newest best sources of
traffic we possibly can which right now
pinterest organic is the hottest on top
of all of that i'm running paid traffic
through facebook i'm continuing to
optimize my funnel and I'm running the
traffic and the subscribers I get
through multiple different business
models through multiple different
product offerings on multiple sites with
multiple merchant accounts and this is
the entire philosophy so if you've been
building your business and taking action
great I commend you one hundred percent
and it does start with one if you're
like miles but I'm just getting started
with one great that's absolutely where
you're meant to be but once you prove
the model and that it works for one
place be sure you're already working on
or at least thinking and laying the
foundation for integrating a second
pillar and if that's a second pillar of
traffic right then perfect start there
if you've got organic SEO traffic great
start to build your social traffic start
to build a paid traffic if you've got
your paid traffic going on perfect start
to get some video traffic start to get
some Google organic traffic use that
three pillar video the idea and the
concepts I've shared mat for you to get
the most reach the maximum reach and
kind of the maximum lifespan and shelf
life after ever out of every piece of
content that you deliver you know
another thing that might be coming our
way right now is a total economy
correction we've been in a bull market
for something like eight years and the
average statistically is that bull
markets last for about five years and
then there's generally a one-year
bearish market that comes in where
things go back and money's not easy you
know we live in a low interest rate
environment and whether you understand
the economies that are the economics of
what's going on in our world or not it
doesn't really matter what does matter
is that money is cheap credit is cheap
mortgages are being able to be paid off
with cheap money all debt is financed
right now with cheap money when that
changes which it has to to go back to
historical averages at some unknown
point in the future could be six months
three weeks two years five years ten
years nobody actually knows but when
that changes everything is going to
tighten up and customers and consumers
are going to be a little bit
more frugal they're not going to be as
freewheeling because their monies are
more valuable in that point in time
they're on an adjustable rate mortgage
that's right now a thousand and that
thing goes up to two thousand dollars a
month they won't have a thousand dollars
a month to spend on rubbish from amazon
to like fake cheap toys that you're
creating from china right their spending
habits will change and that will affect
the entire economy does that can affect
you directly i don't know maybe maybe
not if you do b2b sales then it would be
kind of a second layer of effect right
because the consumers spend less at the
companies that you represent those
companies make less so they have to cut
their budgets down that means getting
rid of their social media marketer etc
and again I'm not trying to be do more
gloom I'm trying to be very honest and
realistic we've been living through some
really really good time luckily I
started this business and I'm happy that
I started this business in some of the
worst economies before I've lived
through in the bay area through the
dot-com boom I was not in college I was
in the workforce I experience what it
was like to go through the dot-com boom
amacom bust again I experienced and
lived through the real estate bubble and
pop I was in the real estate marketing
world at that point in time and I roof I
got hit pretty hard we lost about 60
thousand dollars on a house while I had
built up fifty thousand dollars in
student loan debt thinking that that
last real estate deal where I lost 60 k
was going to pay off my student loans in
one fell swoop aha I had a rude
awakening at that point in time and I
had to start over again at Ground Zero
now that my wife and I have been
building our business we have been so
focused on building a very stable
foundation and that's what this video's
all about is just to get you to think of
stability I like to look at our business
as a table right and if a table only
have one leg then it is very unstable
and it doesn't take much for that leg to
break and that table to fall if a table
has two legs right you're getting
traffic from facebook and you're getting
traffic from Google great that's a more
stable table but it's still not fully
able to stand and support on its own if
you have a table that has three legs at
this point any table or chair in the
world can actually stand on its own with
legs it's a physics thing right you have
three legs it's more stable it can
support itself then if one leg comes out
from under it it's still easy to balance
and easy to keep going and this is a
two-sided theory right you want to make
sure that on the monetization side if
you're selling products and you have one
hero product and that's all you have
great good work getting one done start
to think of your next one what is the
next most kind of logical challenge that
your target market and your customer
avatar are going to experience and how
can you help them solve that problem
because they're going to go pay somebody
to help them with that problem and it
might as well be you because you already
have the relationship right if it's
traffic and you've got two or three
sources of traffic what's that next most
logical source of traffic is it YouTube
great I've taught everything I know
about YouTube SEO here and you can just
watch what I'm doing and reverse
engineer what I've been doing here so
you can implement your own YouTube not
really interested in doing videos great
go to WordPress start a blog through the
content marketing pillars and I had
someone asked me once will miles if a
three-legged table better should I make
like an eight or a nine or a ten legged
table absolutely that is the philosophy
and my wife and I we get traffic from
amazon from Kindles we have apps in the
iphone store the itunes store the google
play store we have an app on the android
or um excuse me the amazon store we have
social media traffic from twitter from
pinterest from facebook from instagram
we have youtube traffic we get google
organic traffic we literally have dozens
of traffic sources that all come back to
grow our list which we own then on the
monetization side we have over a hundred
individual products we have a membership
account we have high ticket products we
have low dollar product we promote
affiliate products we make thousands
tens of thousands of dollars hundreds of
thousand dollars a year promoting other
people's products as well to have any
one of those traffic sources or any
coming sources dry up were good what
what's happened the aftermath from what
the changes that amazon has made here
recently I have a friend she was used to
making about eight and a half percent on
commissions on every sale she drove this
was by far her big
just kind of monetization and she's been
on easy street she has not been growing
her business she's been very comfortable
traveling the world enjoying her
lifestyle she built because she had all
these commissions and like that
overnight amazon just pulled the rug out
from under her and her income is going
to cut by nearly half right she has one
other pillar she has advertising from
google adsense and that's great but to
be taking a fifty percent drop in your
income from the eighty percent income
source is a massive blow and she's been
as i said on easy street kind of
enjoying the process and enjoying a
lifestyle she's created and good for her
right on but this is a pure example of
why i stay hungry when times are good i
stay hungry you know there's this old
phrase that you got to be like the ant
you think winter all summer and you
think some are all winter so if it's
summertime and the times are good and
things are looking good great be
thinking about winter because there is a
change coming because that's all that
ever happens in life it's full of ups
and downs your business is going to do
this everything is going to do that your
traffic every component within your
business is going to have its ups and
it's downs and you need to be ready to
weather the storm for the long term and
that's how you build a true lifestyle
business that you can grow your family
on right we're not talking about quick
hit make some money buy a watch take
pictures on Instagram and act cooler
than you are type money we're talking
about like being able to pay your taxes
being able to raise your kids being able
to live anywhere in the world you want
being able to invest in 401 KS right
that's what we're talking about and real
quick side note if you haven't seen my
emergency fund video and why you need to
have an emergency fund I'm going to go
ahead and make sure that pops up up here
I believe it should go right there and
I'm going to link you to that because an
emergency fund is one of those ways you
can personally kind of protect yourself
to make sure you have a nest egg to work
with in order to weather these storms
that are coming I know that most of my
videos on here are excited they're full
of smiles there they're motivating and I
hope this has been motivating in a
unique way I don't mean to dwell in this
stuff but it is really important for us
to be real right we have to have the
moments of oh yeah the economy has been
growing at a ridiculous rate for a long
time oh yeah money has been relatively
cheap businesses or hiring employees
employees wages are going up wages are
being spent on things that end up paying
for you and your services or they're
buying your products if that changes are
you going to be able to weather the
storm your answer that is no then you
need to figure out on the monetization
and what you need to do to be able to
weather that storm also social patterns
change right the world changes people
stop using myspace at one point in time
and then ever heard of friendster my
goodness that ages me a little bit right
but now everybody's on facebook and then
facebook changes the rules of the game
and all of a sudden facebook traffic's
getting more expensive and more
difficult to come by and so it's a
constantly moving interface and that is
why this is why I go to events I read
the books I read the blogs I am an
absolute student of internet marketing
even though I've gained a level of
mastery over the 10 15 plus years I've
been engaged in affiliate marketing and
internet marketing I am probably I mean
I study as much if not more than anyone
I know I go to more events I read more
books I go through more audio programs I
invest more in my education because I
know we're living in very very fast
changing times and I want to be ahead of
that change I want to be ahead of the
curve I want to be on the bleeding edge
not the leading edge I want to be beyond
that and that's why I deployed my
resources within my business not on
fancy watches not on fancy spots right
I'm living in normal places and I'm
deploying my resources in my business
back into my business to create more
pillars of traffic and monetization and
to build a more kind of stronger with a
better life span a more stable table if
you will I'm going for the twelve legged
table on monetization and traffic sides
so no matter what happens I can lose two
three four five different pillars of
traffic and I'm still good right and
plus beyond all that we've always got
our email our email list and that's the
ultimate kind of place you want to be
always funneling people back to is your
email list because once you own that
asset that's your asset you can email
them people
get email no matter what happens you can
always continue to develop the
relationship offer products create
products do coaching offer services etc
to that one email list so everything you
do make sure it funnels back to
something you own an email list that you
own and from there find as many entrance
points to that as you can and as many
monetization sources for that you can
and at that point you have built a
stable business that will indeed weather
the storms that are coming don't be
afraid of the storms let them motivate
you it is a natural part of the process
our world goes in cycles we have ups we
have downs if you zoom out far enough it
looks like a little squiggly line that's
been going up and up and up for a very
long time and it will continue to go up
and up and up for a very long time I am
very positive and excited about the
future of our world about the global
economy about the US economy about the
way the world's going I think there's a
lot of great things going in our world
but we will absolutely one hundred
percent without a doubt see some downs
before we see some more ups and it might
come after enough might go up down up
who knows I don't but I'm preparing
myself for however that manifests and I
