what's up YouTube this is Ryan Hildreth
back with a another GTR rant and today I
wanted to talk about why college is an
overpriced scam and you should probably
consider dropping out if you're
currently in college now don't get
triggered I know that this is a
sensitive subject especially if you're
spending thousands upon thousands of
dollars on college currently okay but I
want you to reconsider and I want you to
take this into factor okay if you're
going to college because you have a set
game plan right like you want to be an
engineer a doctor a lawyer a nurse and
you want to work at this specific
Hospital great continue college it's a
good investment for you because you
already have a set game plan but for 90
probably 90% of students that you know
graduate high school and go to college
including myself okay this was me I
didn't know what I wanted to do okay and
I can speak on this because I've spent
six years in college I dropped out of
college but I also spent you know over
30 grand on college so you know I can
see it from both points of views right
there was some definite there's
definitely some benefits of college
right I met most of my friends in
college it was a good good for social
that there was really no value there
because I didn't know what I wanted to
do before giving them thousands of
dollars right like the students who take
my course right they're not giving
they're not paying for my courses
because they just want to try something
or they don't you know they like they
don't know what they want to do they
just want to give me money no they have
a set plan like hey I want to learn
Facebook advertising social media
marketing affiliate marketing right
before they actually purchase the course
right so the reason why college is such
a scam is because there is societal
pressures right in high school if I
didn't go to college straight out of
high school I would have looked I would
have been looked at like a failure by my
parents by my grandparents by society in
general they're always pressuring you in
high school too you know
graduate get good grades in high school
so that you can get into a good college
and pay you know thirty to fifty
thousand a year maybe even more if
you're going to like an IV least Ivy
League school you're paying a hundred
thousand a year on college right but
they're setting you up for failure
because and I say they as being society
is because as kids we don't know what we
want to do but we live in the
information age meaning this would be a
good old a better alternative than
spending you know ten thousand to a
hundred thousand your first semester on
college this would be a better
alternative tell your parents or maybe
you're in college right now take a
semester off okay tell your parents I'm
gonna take a semester off I'm not gonna
go straight into college and I'm gonna
pick up a book of careers okay and I'm
gonna spend four months figuring out
what it is that I want to do like I want
to provide this sort of value in the
world because I you know I believe this
is my purpose right
most students including myself when I
first joined you know applied to college
and went to college is like I wanted to
pick whatever I was interested in okay I
want to waste thousands of dollars on
things that I might be interested in
when you can figure this stuff out for
you know in a ten dollar book from
Barnes & Noble or Amazon you know and
figure it out
the financially responsible way the only
reason I say colleges a scam is because
the it's just so overpriced right
information can be accessed at the speed
of light you can literally go on google
and search anything you want
this stuff that college colleges are
teaching are just super out-of-date my
marketing class didn't teach about
Facebook advertising didn't teach about
email autoresponder didn't teach about
anything that had to do with modern-day
advertising and marketing okay you know
this might not be all colleges but you
can literally take a semester off and
watch free Harvard classes on YouTube
right classes that were teaching at an
Ivy League school like Harvard you can
go watch that on YouTube for free okay
and figure it out in four months what it
is you want to study in and hey if if
you want to study a certain subject and
and work corporate or you want to become
a doctor or something like that then go
to college when you're ready to do that
when you're ready to have that mindset
of okay I'm spending money you know I'm
spending my money or I'm spending my
parents money whatever it is to get this
type of training to become whatever it
is right instead of spending money to
try and figure it out right that's gonna
you're gonna end up in a bad situation
and I don't want that for anyone you
know and I realized that when I was you
know living up in San Jose I went to San
Jose State for a little bit and I was
literally living paycheck to paycheck I
was a server at a at a restaurant paying
my you know paying my rent and also
paying for books which is like a couple
hundred bucks each class and I was
trying to figure things out and while
living paycheck to paycheck and trying
to figure things out and figure out what
I wanted to do I started reading books
outside of college right like seven
Habits of Highly Effective People by
Stephen Covey I started getting into
self-development and then getting into
business and entrepreneurship books and
I figured out wow there's so much
information here in these books that I'm
excited about and I'm not learning in
school schools not satisfying that realm
of my
turning so I said wow I spent 30 bucks
on business books that I enjoyed reading
and I spent thousands of dollars on
books that I will never open again and I
didn't even read right you see the
difference there so if you're going to
college to make money you should drop
out now if you're going to college too
because something sounds interesting you
should take a semester off and figure it
out what exactly want to do because
college is a waste of money if you don't
have an objective going into it okay and
that's why I say it's overpriced and a
scam because first of all you fail a
class you got to take that class over
and pay to take it over again number two
you have to take classes that don't
necessarily you know pertain to what
you're interested in or what your
objective is right if you want to get a
science degree or you know molecular
biology which was what I was majoring
and at first I did switch the business
finance when I went to Fullerton but I
had to take like a geography class right
and I had to pay a couple thousand bucks
for that for a geography class and I'm
never gonna use right so that's why I
say it's a scam is because they force
classes on you that you don't need
they're just trying to get you know more
revenue more income more profits and
also they make you retake classes that
you fail and pay for it and then if you
fail like three times you can't even you
like they drop you from the college
right and you paid thousands of dollars
and and just because you failed a class
which I never failed a class but I've
known people who failed twice and you
know they ended up paying twice and then
they got kicked out of the college so
it's just so interesting how that whole
business the education system works so
if you are in college right now and you
are interested in a certain you know
certain route maybe it's business if it
is business I guarantee you like if you
don't want to work or if you want to
start your own business college is not
for you you can learn better tactics
through online courses I'm not talking
$10 udemy courses I'm talking like
premium courses from mentors who have
built businesses but if you're like
interested in obviously you know
becoming a doctor a lawyer engineer and
nurse something like that you need
college for then great but make sure
that's what you want to do before you're
you know you fork out all this cash so
that's just kind of what I want to talk
about because you know it's just
something that I didn't really think
about that I could have done and I could
have saved myself a lot of money and
hopefully you can take this same
information and save yourself a money
some money take a semester off College
will always be there you can always go
back to college you can always you know
pick up some classes next semester take
a semester off or if you're just
graduating high school consider taking
five months to figure out what it is you
want to get experienced in and then go
to college okay it's much easier said
than done especially with pressure
societal pressure and pressure from
parents and stuff like that but you know
I know I know there's a lot of high
school kids grab you know hoping maybe
you're in high school you're graduating
right now or maybe you're currently in
college or finishing up some classes
hopefully this video can
hope you figure things out if you're
lost and you don't exactly know what to
major in or you know what route to go
down just take a semester off and figure
it out because you're wasting your money
at you know very expensive colleges and
you can easily you know direct a quarter
of those funds to some books like career
books and different types of books and
different you know different majors and
just figure it out that way and then go
to college when you're ready but if
you're just going to college to have
some fun with friends and stuff like
that that's also cool too that's what I
did it for like the value that I got out
of college was I met most of my best
friends there and I had a good time
partying and you know having fun with my
friends so I definitely don't regret it
but I think that I would have done it
differently with the mindset that I have
now so hopefully you enjoyed this video
and I will see you in the next one
