3 Reasons Why Most People Fail With Goals & How To Get It Right! Goal Setting Made Easy!

video reveals the three reasons why most
people fail with their goals and how to
get it right there's really two camps in
the world of goal-setting those who love
it and those who are pretty much against
it and I really do think that those who
were against it just don't understand
the right way to set goals because if
you get this right you're gonna be
setting yourself up for success so let's
start with the three reasons why most
people fail number one is the wrong
target right they're actually setting
goals based on things that are outside
of their personal control and this is a
huge problem because it puts you into a
position where you can't actually
control the outcome and by definition
you need to be able to achieve your
goals on your own so what do I mean
let's get specific with this well if
you've got a goal of bringing in 10 new
clients this month you actually aren't
in control of that other person's
decision whether to join you or not so
in my personal opinion a better goal is
how many sales presentations how many
sales calls are you gonna do in the next
month if you have a 10% closing rate
right now you know that every 10 people
you get on the phone with you land one
client then if you are able to set a
goal and achieve set goal of making 100
sales presentations in the month you
will achieve and you will obtain your 10
based on those numbers also you can then
work to improve your conversion rates
right getting better at sales getting
better at your closing rate is another
way to actually get closer to the number
of new clients that you want through
focusing on things that are within your
control so your goal may be to do 100
sales presentations and to read 3 sales
books in this month the byproduct of
that goal very well statistically if you
know you have a 10% closing ratio and
you're working on getting better at it
the statistics should give you what you
want which is 10 new clients this month
another way of looking at this is a lot
of digital marketers have the goal of
making 10 grand a month and they're like
you know what by the end of the year I'm
making my 10 grand a month and that is
another situation where the actual
ultimate goal is outside of your control
what is within your control that could
lead you to achieving that which you
truly desire well you could launch a
brand-new product every quarter for the
year you can do how many YouTube videos
are you putting out how many blog posts
are you gonna put out how are you
working on reaching and capturing the
attention of your perfect prospect right
so this comes into the the marketing
pieces which we're going to talk about
later in this video but ultimately
setting your goal based on the actions
that you are 100% in control of so for
me I'm in control how many videos that I
put out every single week I'm not in
control of how many subscribers that I
gain right so if I set a goal of 250,000
subscribers by the end of the year
that's outside of my control and I'm
setting myself up to let myself down but
if I set my goal as I'm gonna do three
videos a week every single week for the
rest of this year that is an achievable
goal that is 100% achievable by me I
don't need any other humans in the world
to take specific actions that goal may
very well help me get to what I want
which is that 250,000 subscribers but
it's within my control ultimately if I
wanted to grow to that level I would be
doing daily videos just a little sidebar
there so that's number one number two is
you're not implementing or they're not I
want to say you I apologize for that so
people who don't implement the right
strategy that is going to be in
alignment with their goal are flat-out
not going to achieve their goals so what
do I mean by this let's go back to the
individual who's doing the sales calls
right they want to bring in ten new
clients is what they want so they
decided that they're gonna do one
hundred sales presentations so now what
is your strategy for getting those
strategy calls are you publishing
YouTube videos are you publishing to
your blog are you running Facebook Ads
are you running LinkedIn ads what Acton
what what is the strategy right what is
the actual shape of the funnel what is
the process that someone who doesn't
know who you are what are they going to
go through in order to help you get to
where you want to be second example was
the ten grand per month if you're
currently doing sessions some sort of
one-on-one sessions maybe you're a
fitness consultant and you do $100 per
hour sessions for your clients and
that's what you do and you travel to
them and there's a hundred bucks an hour
and then you travel home they travel to
the next one is that mechanism is that
business strategy leverageable enough to
get you to 10 grand per month there's
some simple math we could do that I
didn't do before this but
I think it's gonna put to the point
where to get 10 grand per month at $100
per hour that is going to be an insane
number of hours required whereas a
different business model that has maybe
a $97 per month membership program with
an upsell to $495 coaching that's done
digitally that business model has the
ability to get you to your ultimate goal
more quickly so you need to make sure
the strategy that you're working with is
in alignment with your ultimate goal so
for me growing the YouTube channel right
on that example of if I wanted to hit
250,000 a year doing the daily YouTube
videos is like the number one thing I
could do also doing collaborations with
other youtubes is another thing I could
do but if I'm focused on blogging or
posting to Instagram or posting to
Facebook thinking somehow that's gonna
get me to my goal of more subscribers
there's just no way that's actually
going to work it's the wrong strategy
right social media marketing is not the
right strategy to grow a YouTube channel
more work in and on YouTube is the way
to grow a YouTube Travel Channel so your
strategy needs to be in alignment with
your ultimate goals and then finally
number three is people aren't taking the
right actions those individual steps the
day to day what is everyone doing each
and every day those actions are not in
alignment with the strategy is not in
alignment with the ultimate goal so the
individual who wants to generate the 10
new clients in a year but they realize
now the goal is better to have 100 sales
presentations they then decide that the
best way for themselves to do this is
LinkedIn marketing into a funnel but
then their daily actions they're
actually responding to emails for half
of their day they're actually posting on
facebook for half of the day they're
over on Instagram they're watching
YouTube videos
none of those actions are getting them
any closer to their actual strategy
which was LinkedIn ads into a funnel to
generate interest in strategy calls to
get 100 new strategy calls to close 10
clients right so you have to make sure
that every single activity that you're
doing throughout your day from the
moment you wake up so the moment you log
off for the day is 100% in alignment
with your
oh gee then you have to make sure your
strategy is in alignment with your
ultimate goal and you need to make sure
that ultimate goal is that thing that
you can control that's how you get goals
right and so many people will set a goal
of something they can't control and this
works well outside of the world of
internet marketing right if you set the
goal to lose 20 pounds in the next 90
days but you continue to eat the exact
same you continue to not exercise every
single day because the weather that this
that that whatever you're never gonna
get there right so your individual
actions haven't changed your strategy to
accomplish that goal hasn't changed but
if you set the goal to go to the gym
every single day for one hour per day
and you stick with it and that's the big
goal and then every day you set an alarm
you do some sort of action within your
day that's gonna get you to take a
specific action to get you out of the
house to get you going maybe you run an
app that locks your computer and locks
your phone so you can't access any of
those apps that distract you for an hour
and a half and then you're just like wow
I'm bored I'm just gonna go to the gym
now because I've literally locked myself
out of everything else
maybe that's the strategy and those are
the actions you need to take but getting
your butt into the gym every single day
for 90 days straight is the way to get
there and I don't mean you so I
apologize if that came off a little
awkward but but that's how you need to
look at goals number one it must be
achievable by you and you alone you
can't set your goals that are dependent
on the actions of others number two you
need to make sure your strategy that
you're implementing is in alignment with
your goal so you actually run the right
vehicle that can actually get you to
your destination then the actions the
day to day actions so many people get
caught up in busy work they think that
posting to Facebook or posting to
Instagram is somehow growing their
business but you can easily look at the
data and it's not you're not getting
traffic from Instagram you're not
getting leads from Instagram your reach
on Facebook unless you're doing paid
advertising on Facebook is 1/100 of what
it was two years ago it's a total waste
of time
and those distraction mechanisms are
designed to suck you in and sell you
advertise or display advertising they
sell to other people a little bit of a
tangent there but that is what most
people are doing they're setting goals
that are outside of their control and
they're not doing the right things day
to day they're not taking the right
actions they're getting distracted by
social media and the strategy
the vehicle the the road map to get to
where they want to be just isn't flat
out there and they don't achieve their
goals and then they think goal setting
doesn't work and that's not true it was
their approach to goal setting that
ultimately didn't work in that situation
so make sure your actions support your
strategy
make sure your strategy supports your
goal and make sure your goal is
something that you can personally
accomplish with 100% brute force effort
set yourself up for success you'll be
