5 Sources For Free Stock Photos & Royalty Free Images For Your Content Marketing And Social Media

hey miles here miles Becker calm in this
video you're gonna learn five separate
locations you can get free stock images
for your content marketing your social
media marketing your blog posts etc now
we're gonna talk about free royalty free
images but Before we jump into the
locations we need to talk about the
rights and the potential challenges that
you are entering in this world so you
need great imagery for your blog posts
for your social media marketing I mean
great images just make your content pop
they can really bring it to life so it's
super important there's a few very large
corporations that run the stock image
world and if you accidentally or
willingly use their images without
having purchased the rights they will
absolutely sue you there are so many
counts of bloggers who have been sued by
these companies for whether it was an
accident or whether it was on purpose
just kind of googling an image swiping
it and using it if they use the
intellectual property from one of these
third-party companies you generally will
get a lawsuit notification pretty quick
I've had this happen to an actual friend
of mine before this is a real situation
so I'm not trying to scare you I'm just
trying to help you understand the
importance of doing a little bit of due
diligence and learning how these
different licenses work so you can be
confident in your approach I'm not an
intellectual property lawyer you already
knew that
I'm gonna give you my take on this but
it's up to you to make your own
decisions and do your own due diligence
the first place we're gonna start is
where you can do some due diligence
which is the Creative Commons license
website now Creative Commons is a group
who has been kind of they've stepped up
to try to create an internet standard
for licensing sharing and attributing
content on the web they have a license
called the cc0 which is no rights
reserved and it is essentially the same
as the public domain now the public
domain is everything in our country
essentially that the copyright has
expired on anything that has an expired
copyright is available for us to use but
this usually translates to government
created content that's in the public
domain or
really old stuff from the 19-teens and
the turn of the century that the
copyright flat-out expired on we needed
a newer form a newer kind of way for
people to donate their content their
images etc to the public domain this is
the license the cc0 the big thing I
think you want to take away from the
licensing and I recommend you you google
this and read this is that you want for
commercial purposes you want no
attribution required and you want the
ability to use and modify the imagery
when you have all of those capabilities
you don't need a link out to them from
the image you can add your text on it to
brand it to make it yours and ultimately
you can use it for commercial purposes
that's where we want to get to the cc0
license is one of those licenses you can
look at for a shortcut also the public
domain is that so let's jump into our
first source pixabay is one of the
websites i've used for a very long time
for these kinds of free royalty-free
images big search engine one thing
you'll see is that all of these site not
all but most of these sites we're
looking at our affiliates for the big
royalty-free companies and I'm going to
show you how to kind of identify which
images you can use in which are them
trying to sell you those sort of images
so we're gonna look at running and I'm
just searching for images about running
you can see they've got an auto populate
and up here you can see sponsored images
from Shutterstock so these are their
affiliate links up in this gray area the
bigger images down here are ultimately
the different ones they have available
now even if something is in the cc0
license you may need a model release
form if you can see the person's face
and if it has any big brand trademarks
you probably don't want to use it
because you probably don't have the
legal right to use a big brand image
inside of your commercial content so to
learn more about this world up here on
the three dots if you click that there's
an FAQ I'm holding ctrl and I clicked on
it to open it in a new tab and down in
the FAQ they have one question that is
can I use your images when you click
learn more it will tell you about some
of those kind
of other circumstances the exceptions to
the rule if you will when you definitely
want to reconsider using it for
commercial purposes so obviously again
do your due diligence like all these
companies want to support you in using
their product the right way but you do
need to take a little bit of time so
this image for example I clicked on not
personally-identifiable can you put your
your motivational quote right here this
would be great for social media you can
use it on videos blogs and you see right
here on the right it says CC 0 Creative
Commons free for commercial use no
attribution required that shows us that
this image has the license we were
talking about before you click free
download and you get it
pixabay has a really good search engine
and they have a ton of imagery so I use
pixabay a lot let's move quickly now
that we've covered a lot of the the fine
print if you will the next one we're on
is just free images calm it works in a
very similar way there's hundreds of
these websites I've really curated the
five that have very good search engines
and also have a lot of quality imagery
you can see up top these related images
from iStockphoto
this is actually their affiliate link so
these ones you want to skip and these
are the ones that you ultimately want
and you can see when you search running
you get all kind of dogs running horses
running basketball the words I guess
faucets running is something that would
be relevant and you can do multi word
search functionality there they have a
full advanced feature where you can
search in all kinds of different ways
for the orientation if you need like a
vertical image for Instagram or
something like that or a horizontal one
for a video type thing free images is
another great source pick jumbo comm
works again really really similar you
can see they've got some imagery right
on the top but up here on the top right
you can type in
your keyword search phrase it's gonna
search that out and it will bring so
they've got 21 images for this they've
got really high-quality images on this
but honestly I don't think they have the
volume and I don't think they have the
search feature but some of these images
are really quite high quality I would
say so
these are images available for you to
use as well but again you want to click
on them you want to look and make sure
they do have the certain types of
attribution or the certain licenses that
allow you to actually use them for the
purposes you're using them from so now
we're on good free photos.com
you can search them up top so again
running I'll just search the gallery
here it's gonna bring up theirs
I believe they have a large volume of
pictures they have more than the last
one
but we're kind of getting down a little
bit lower and you can see there's really
not many people people running
you got these folks but if you're in a
running brand very few of these are
going to be usable for you this one has
a lot of travel photography a lot of
nature imagery which is great for
certain purposes as well then the last
one number five is Google Images and big
huge asterisk warning of if you do this
wrong you can very well grab an image
from essentially a place you don't have
the rights to use it so I want to show
you how to get Google images to give you
the images with the types of rights that
you want so we're gonna type in running
first and I'm just gonna search running
in Google Images now it pulls everything
up but again I don't have the rights to
use these so we want to click on
settings and then you want to go to
advanced search now it's got running
inside of the search bar and when we
scroll down you're gonna see that
there's this usage rights area when you
click on this this opens a document that
gives you the support doc read this make
sure you understand what they're talking
about right go through the due diligence
yourself but they have this option at
the bottom that is free to use free to
share free to modify even if it's
commercially so you do the advanced
search on here now and we have filtered
all of Google's results to the ones that
give us the ability to use them but
remember you still have those little
exceptions to the rules
big brands model release forms etc those
are things you need to keep in mind also
Google uses their search engine spiders
and their BOTS to essentially scrape the
web to come up with this list of images
Google might get this wrong from time to
time you probably will always want to
and you can see when I hover on this
this one's actually coming from pics of
a you probably will want to go to the
website that they're pulling this from
take a read around and make sure you
indeed do have the rights and the
ability to use that you think you do so
this is I think for me Google images is
a last case resort I do the most
research on here because they don't
clearly give me a second notification
that it does have the sort of rights
that I'm looking for but when I need
something super specific the Google
search engines the best search engine in
the world so it's one that I can use I
can rely on I can count on to help me
really search for those kind of hard to
find images when I can't find them on
the other sources truthfully you should
be able to find one or two of those
websites that will work their way into
your workflow and you'll be able to rely
on them consistently if you at least
understand the lay of the land the
different licensing agreements how the
the paid royalty image or the paid stock
image companies work and then how the
free ones work you can really easily
find your way into your little niche to
be able to go get some great imagery for
your videos your social media your blog
posts etc with all of that said my wife
and I have signed up for an annual
account at big stock photos before and
we got a lot of imagery from them
because we were putting out content so
rapidly back in the days when we were
doing ten posts a day to Facebook we
were putting out so much new content
that we just kind of signed up for a
subscription with one of the paid
companies so there is a time and a place
for that also but if you're just needing
a couple of images a week some generic
images that allow you to enhance your
content marketing efforts free stock
image photos and free royalty free
websites can be a
great source for you but take a little
bit of time to understand the different
licensing I think Creative Commons has
seven different levels to their
licensing I look for that cc0 also
public domain images are what I look for
there's a whole wide variety of other
sorts of Rights you can use you can't
use how you can use them non-commercial
commercial with attribution etc
understand what you're getting into
because there is a potential penalty
here if you get this wrong you never
want to infringe on anyone's trademark
you never want to infringe on anyone's
copyright and just knowing the lay of
the land will help you avoid that whole
world of headaches essentially so I
recommend that you take some time with
these five tools if you have any
questions about this get at me in the
comments below if you enjoyed this video
give me a thumbs up here in YouTube and
I hope that you've found a new source or
two to help you get some great imagery
to run with your social media campaigns
your content marketing campaigns your
blogging your videos etc really increase
the value make it a multimedia post with
some great imagery you'll find that your
readership goes up your time on page
goes up everyone enjoys a visually
appealing page a visually appealing post
and now you know the trick to turning
your content individual appeal a
visually appealing content for free and
on that tongue-twisted moment I'm gonna
call it here it's time to wrap up this
video so thank you again for your time
be sure to subscribe I got another video
coming out in a couple of days until I
see you again be well my friend catch
you on the next video
