Save Money on CONTENT - Amazon Affiliate - #AgedSiteCaseStudy #ASCS #11

hey what's going on it's duck Huntington
from niche site project in this video
I'm going to talk about the content for
the H site case study and a couple ways
that you may be able to save a little
money and do this on a tighter budget so
the H site case study if you're not
familiar is a case study where I am
purchasing a done-for-you site it's been
aged for at least six months and
basically I'm trying to outsource all
the activities the reason why it's aged
is hopefully it'll be out of the Google
sandbox and we'll be able to get traffic
more quickly earn money more quickly and
then hopefully we'll get an ROI a little
bit faster so if you're new check out
some of the other videos in the series
and I encourage you to number one leave
questions on this video if you have any
questions at all just leave a comment I
read a hundred percent of them it gives
me great ideas for videos and number two
you should also go to niche site project
comm slash ASCs 4-h site case study and
you can see all my raw notes so I
haven't written like a blog post a
narrative for this case study because
it's live it's going on right now so I'm
just sort of keeping notes keeping
people up to date and that sort of thing
so my budget for this project is in the
twelve to fifteen thousand dollar range
for the first six months or so yes that
is a large amount of cash but there are
a few things that you could do to save
some money not this cans for everything
this is like buying the site this is
getting content
this is promotion and link building and
outreach now that kind of stuff and any
sort of like other tools or whatever
that I may need although I haven't had
to get anything in that area because it
like I said I'm outsourcing everything
this video we're gonna focus on content
so in my case here's what I did I went
to a company that sort of a full-service
company it's called content development
pros and I outsource everything I gave
them the title for the like whatever
post or article I wanted to be written
they write it and then they go to
WordPress and they draft it up per my
instructions and then I
a quick a look at it I'll publish it
right so pretty straightforward I
actually had a VA I have a VA and she
helps me with like some just random
things that I need help with such as
looking at a post and WordPress and
making sure that it looks okay so I had
my VA take a quick look at it because
all this work that was going on I was on
vacation so I didn't do any of the work
there I didn't read the post she just
checked it out for me that was it so in
the last video where I talked about
expenses several people pointed out that
I could get the content for cheaper they
outlined a couple different options for
getting cheaper content and they're
right right they were right I can get
content for cheaper but if you if one
more to go back and check out some of
the early videos on this like my goal is
to outsource in not to babysit writers
so one of the smart commenters out there
said hey you could hire college students
that are inexperienced you could train
them on your process Doug you're a
project manager you should be able to
train them really easily and then you
can get the work done for you know
pennies on the dollar that kind of thing
well that wasn't my goal even though
that person's right my goal was to
outsource it and not have to worry about
it all right so while that is a valid
way to do it it is not the way I was
trying to do it otherwise that's what I
would do and by the way that is
typically what I would do in the past
not necessarily a college student but I
would find someone who wanted to do
freelance writing and then I would train
them and usually you can get a highly
qualified person that is getting started
and freelancing for a little bit of a
cheaper rate because they're trying to
get experience so anyway there's a
spectrum of how much you can pay for
content and I'm going to talk about a
few things I'm going to actually bust
out some graphs and show you we're going
to look at a couple different aspects so
the quality versus the cost and the
amount of time it takes you to get
content versus the cost all these things
come into play and what you're going to
notice is I'm trying to break it down so
I'm really graphing like two different
factors at a time so cost versus quality
and
we're gonna talk about the timeline
versus the cost but really there's
multiple variables in here and this
whole thing is trade offs you have to
figure out what matters to you including
you know your budget is probably one of
the biggest like things you're gonna
have to deal with right so you have a
limited budget you have a certain amount
of time and a certain amount of
experience and so on so every this is
multiple variables this is complex so
yes in the comments if someone's like
hey you could do this one thing and save
money well that is just one piece of the
puzzle all right and sometimes there's
different puzzles going on and you don't
want to put different puzzle pieces from
different puzzles together we're losing
it we're losing it here so let me get it
back on track here's the deal there's a
spectrum there's basically I'm going to
give you three little examples so I went
with the most expensive route I went
with full service I have a project
manager to work with I have an account
manager I don't do much I don't do much
of the heavy lifting that is what I
prefer I really don't want to like
proofread the articles I really don't
want to do the keyword research I really
don't want to do all these little things
that take up so much time so I'm
outsourcing everything so that is the
most expensive option the cheapest
option is to write it all yourself do
all the keyword research yourself format
everything do the research write it do
all the formatting drafted WordPress
everything and that is just about free
all right it takes your time of course
which some may argue I would argue that
is the most valuable resource is your
time all right because you can't get
that back it's gone
once that instant is gone and you lost
the time so I'm trying to buy back time
with money right that's essentially what
I'm doing and there are many people in
the audience right that maybe you have a
larger budget so you want to take
advantage of that you're using your
money as a tool to buy back time and the
you know context of content so somewhere
in the middle you can hire freelancers
and do the management yourself so that's
kind of like right in the middle you can
go to a service like upward
for example hire freelancers
individually you serve as the editor as
the project manager you train them all
that stuff and it takes some time
there's some administrative costs
associated with you know just hiring
someone working through a you know
service like up work or a marketplace I
guess you would call it you could you
know cut some of those admin costs and
go to maybe a place like Craigslist or
some other you know freelance
marketplace and you can essentially
lower some of the admin costs every time
you lower some of the admin cost or
anything of that sort usually you're
losing some sort of like risk protection
so I enjoy hiring on up work because
there are certain rights that you have
as a I guess it's more of an operating
agreement as a client and as a
freelancer you guys are you know
engaging in an agreement and there's
certain guidelines so like if a writer
does a really bad job or they're
plagiarizing or something like that I
don't have to pay them and in fact I'm
protected via the escrow that upwork has
you can see all their I guess rights in
terms of service and all that stuff if
you want to read the fine print but
essentially I am okay paying that admin
cost because it gives me a little bit of
risk protection for a deadbeat
freelancer for example so and the
freelancer has protection too
so if you're hiring someone from like up
work someone may trust you know the
process that you're engaging in versus
if you just hire a random person from
Craigslist right there's not as much
trust there potentially and that sort of
thing so that said we're gonna have the
spectrum of three things so you can hire
full service that's what I did you can
hire people like freelancers
individually and then you manage them
that's somewhere in the middle or you
can do it all yourself or you could do a
blend of all those things right I
actually encourage people to test each
one of those and see like either what
you like the best you can learn along
the way like even if you can't hire a
freelancer or several freelancers like
right away it's kind of a good
experience to go through the process
with just like
one writer like however much you could
afford right so maybe once a week or
maybe once a month or once a quarter or
whatever your budget allows it's a
really good experience to hire folks on
up work or whatever service that way you
can start learning how to interact with
freelancers and then you could slowly
grow into it what you don't want to do
is try and hire like 10 freelancers all
at once because you'll like kind of go
insane trust me it sounds like
straightforward thing to do but once you
start getting a lot of freelancers
working for you there's a lot of like
interaction you can have which is too
much
I want to reduce interaction with random
people even if they're working for me so
anyway let's go to the graphs real quick
and I think it'll sort of illustrate
what I'm talking about with the cost
versus other factors and then you could
fill in whatever other like things that
are important to you trade offs and all
that stuff and sort of figure out like
okay how do I need to make decisions
based on what's important to me so
quality and cost are kind of opposing
forces so if you get really cheap
content down here right it's not very
expensive and the cost goes up this
direction and the quality goes up in
that direction so if you get something
really cheap most likely the quality is
gonna be fairly low right so something
really cheap s'right here as you like
pay more money like in this direction
usually the quality will be a little bit
better somewhere around here and just
for the sake of our little example here
most likely it's gonna kind of go in
that direction like if you are getting
something that is you know reasonably
priced then most likely the Equality
will go up and it will be of reasonable
quality what you don't with a situation
you don't want to be in is where you're
paying a lot and the quality is low all
right so that's stuff out there you
don't want to be doing that so this is
like you know this is bad you don't want
to you know that's Brad all right so you
don't want to be getting any content
that's very expensive and it sucks
that's not what you want at all and if
you're lucky right like if you go the
route where you're hiring college
students or
something like that then you may be able
to not pay too much and the quality can
be quite high like in this area over
here right this is great if you could be
in this zone over here this little box
in this area it's great you know if you
can figure out how to do that a lot of
times if you are paying a small amount
and the quality is high you're probably
doing a lot of like management or
training or something like that so this
is the issue that I had it's great if
you can make this work but I didn't want
to spend a lot of time like doing
management right I didn't want to do
much training I just wanted them to do
the work that's like sort of the reason
why I wasn't operating in this region
typically in the past I've been in this
sort of range here and this drawing is
getting out of control at this point I'm
not sure if I'm making the point that I
intend on making but generally like
again if you could stay in this zone
right here you're going to be okay that
is average right like we're probably
going to be in the average area that is
just how things work and if you can
figure out how to get in this zone
that's great
now if we're talking about the
do-it-yourself option where you're
writing everything on your own then
maybe the cost is you know it's pegged
at zero right it's pegged at zero over
here as far as money and the quality is
dependent on you right like however good
you are of a writer or researcher or
whatever it is dependent on that now of
course this cost right here we're
talking about money alright we're
talking about money in this case but
costs can come in many different forms
like in the form of time your cost can
be associated with I guess like
frustration or some other like sort of
intangible emotional aspect so you have
to remember the thing that we're looking
at here is cost that is the thing that
apparently everyone's super interested
in and that's why I'm harping on it now
let's look at another variable
associated with cost or at least related
to cost dependent on cost as well and
that is the speed in which you can get
work done a lot of times
the amount that you're paying is also
related to like how fast the work can be
done it's not always related to it but a
lot of times you will see some
correlations so if you need work done
really fast imagine it like a rush job
or something different right let's say
you have like a little household
emergency your toilet has overflowed all
right
there's some urgency there you would
like to have that work done pretty darn
fast you'll want the plumber to come and
fix that so your toilet is not
overflowing or whatever sort of sewage
situation this got dark very fast but
basically there's some work where you
want it done fast and if you need a rush
job a lot of times you're going to be
paying extra a lot of times you're
paying a premium to get it done faster
so that's of course money related the
cost is up here right so the cost is
high and it's done quickly all right so
here's our timeline this is how long it
takes here this is the cost so if you
need something done really quick it may
be quite expensive up in this range but
sometimes you need that work done fast
if it's an emergency
for example so it could be pretty
expensive on the other side of the like
sort of equation if you're not much of a
rush you may be able to get things a
little bit cheaper and there are several
content services even - like full
service companies that will maybe
they'll publish like two articles or
four articles or eight or whatever
articles per month for you and you can
set a subscription and it's not as
expensive as if you were trying to get
you know sixteen articles all in two
days versus if you have you know a full
month and you need the 16 articles it
takes a little bit less I guess effort
just from an overall perspective and
it's a little easier to manage if you
have a subscription or something like
that so in that case the cost could be
lower in the time you know the timeline
is longer doesn't it doesn't happen as
fast but that's okay because you're just
trying to publish a few articles per
month perhaps your budget allows for
that so you see we end up with sort of
like different pockets here now again
like most
things I'm aiming for generally the
middle so the cost is going to be
roughly average and the time is going to
be roughly average you'll notice in my
graphs i'm not putting in any specific
numbers it doesn't matter right like
this will generally hold true the slope
of this line here it can be different
right like it maybe it's a little bit
more like this or maybe it's more steep
or something like that maybe there's a
curve in it I don't know maybe we can
get some kind of parabolic action going
in there it doesn't really matter but
you get the idea that you have
trade-offs so like is cost really
important do you need your cost to be
like really tight do you have a limited
budget is what I'm trying to say so if
you're locked in to this amount right
here and you cannot exceed this amount
well then you're playing down here
that's totally fine you just have to
know your constraints this is all about
constraints this is all about trade-offs
and you have a limited budget that you
could work with so if your budget is
this then you have to think about that
and if your budget is this you have to
look at your other graph remember the
one from before where we graph the cost
in here and then the quality here well
as the cost goes down usually the
quality suffers too so you have to
figure out like what's more important so
again I'm like graphing it in different
directions but if your cost is locked in
here your quality may be locked in sort
of in this in this zone here because the
quality is going to be most likely
tapped you're not going to be able to
get the very best work if you're paying
a much smaller amount so you have to
look at everything that's important to
you all the trade-offs that you have to
make for your project all right so I
hope that helps let me know if you have
questions let me know if that confused
you more than it helped because that'd
be good to know all right we'll catch
you on the next one
