SPI Turns 8 Years Old! A Personal Reflection from Pat – SPI TV Ep. 57

hey whats up guys Pat here just taking a
stroll around the block just had a good
workout with my buddy Jeff and somebody
brought to my attention that today
october twenty 8 2016 is actually the
eight year anniversary or birthday smart
passive income which is totally crazy I
can't believe I've been doing this for
that long you know to go to school for
architecture only to get laid off and
start my new life as an entrepreneur I
never would have dreamed it would become
what it is today you know thank God I
got laid off and I always say that
because it was definitely a blessing in
disguise I didn't really enjoy getting
laid off but I'm so thankful it happened
I was thinking about my last eight years
and you know I know a lot of people
especially those of you who just
discovered me recently maybe through my
podcast or YouTube or blog or whatever
you know you see my income reports you
see the success that I have and I'm
speaking I'm a best-selling author all
the stuff and think that I have this
like special skill or that I was born to
be able to do this well that's
definitely not the case I started out
not knowing what I was doing you go back
to my first set of blog posts here in
spi and see with that why does I look
like it looked i just looked ridiculous
it looked like i didn't know what i was
doing and truth is I didn't only through
experimentation through a number of
failures mistakes along the way and
through a lot of connections that I made
with others was I then able to finally
put things together and still even now
eight years later I'm making mistakes
I'm failing I'm learning and I'm moving
forward I think that that's the biggest
thing as I just keep going and hopefully
this will be a message of inspiration
for you who may be at a point in your
business in your life where you feel
like you don't really know what's going
on well most of the time you don't truly
know exactly what's going to happen but
if you believe that you can do it then
you will be able to get the work done in
order to make it happen that's that's
the big thing my favorite quote the
thing that's inspiring me since the
beginning was this quote by Henry Ford
and that is whether you think you can or
you can't you're right so it all starts
in here now said that's the one of the
big lessons I learned but I was just
reflecting on you know walking around
this great neighborhood i'm so thankful
to be here and very blessed and you know
it did I wasn't always in this kind of
situation you know when i first started
i started working out of my apartment
and a little nook in the corner
hey everybody this is pat flynn from the
smart passive income blog kind of just
taking my dog out for a walk today
because mom say hi it's about 1130am on
a beautiful friday morning here in San
Diego and I kind of just wanted to
invite you to my office to kind of show
you where everything goes down kind of
behind the scenes with smart passive
income blog and all my other businesses
and stuff so we're going to head on over
into my apartment and have a little look
so it makes for joining me today let's
go inside I'm gonna take gizmos leash
off really quick is my weight good boy
all right go all right so this is my
little one-bedroom apartment I'm gonna
give you the quick tour use my own couch
now we live our dog gives them alone no
just a really really small apartment and
there's my office everything that goes
down with smart passive income blogging
on my other businesses happens in this
little niche here in the corner of the
dining room and I hope this just shows
you that you don't need a fancy office
in order to do really really cool things
and great things and be successful
online this is all I have right here
this is the only space I have to work
you know it's pretty cramped but no
printer and podcasting like storage
books and whatnot you know oski from
from Cal and and yeah that's it and my
video quality was terrible now i'm using
like a little doohickey dude whatever
device to make it look like I'm floating
little handheld gyroscopes thing but
anyway man it's super thankful and I'm
so glad I kept going because there a lot
of moments in this journey where I
wanted to give up there are a lot of
times where I didn't feel like I was
qualified and even then I'm still
dealing with a lot of those thoughts for
example i just recently finally launched
my first course called smart from
scratch it's only available to a certain
segment of my email list right now I'm
kind of going through a founders program
or a beta beta group who's helping me
validate it and make the content better
for you that's coming out in 2017 for
everybody but you know
took a while to eight years for me to
come out with my first true course like
that and the reason it took so long is
because I didn't feel like I was
qualified also didn't feel like it was
needed because I was doing great with
affiliate marketing and stuff but you
know what if you want to build a
business for yourself a long-term one
you need to actually develop products
for yourself and I'm finally in the
right mindset to do that filing in the
right mindset to know that what I'm
selling is actually worth the time and
the money that's being exchanged for
that and so I hope that's that's a big
lesson some of you who don't feel like
you're qualified to make this happen or
qualified to teach others you know the
true thing when it comes to teaching
others is that a lot of people will get
a lot more out of learning from somebody
who's just a little bit further ahead
than they are there's a lot of great
courses out there that are teach by the
better top by these a listers and
because amazing people who've been
around in business for a while and you
know you might think that that's the
best solution for you which is fine but
if you're teaching and you don't feel
like you're at that level guess what
you're actually able to be more
relatable to somebody this is like when
I started with my green exam academy
website I was helping people pass an
exam the architecture industry I didn't
feel like I was an expert I didn't even
I almost didn't pass that exam but
because I was one posting information
about it sharing what i learned along
the way and the lessons and all the tips
and tricks i picked up because i had
already taken that exam and because i
had a little bit more experience than
somebody else people were more likely to
listen to me and it was crazy because
the company that actually writes the
exam i think they saw the guys that I
was coming out with and they created
their own guides to and I was like how
can I compete with them well I was able
to massively compete with them because i
was myself and i had experience taking
the exam and people were more likely to
buy from me somebody who is just a
little bit further ahead than they are
then some company that they don't even
know who's behind it so man come a long
way learned a lot of lessons i'm still
kind of in the mindset of you know
there's always room for improvement and
now i'm just going to be here creating
more experiments speaking of experiments
2017 is going to be a lot of fun have a
lot of cool things happening in my book
will it fly became a best-seller this
year 2016 super thankful for that now
i'm in the book writing mode so i'm
actually working on my second book
whether it's going to be self-published
or traditionally published i'm not sure
but who knows we'll see i'll keep you
posted along the way let's see what else
is coming my course like i mentioned
earlier plus a couple other ones that
are in the pipeline and then I'm also
working on a physical product which is
going to be a lot of fun I've always
wanted to do something in the physical
product sort of manufacturing space and
share more about that in 2017 and it's
all I I'm actually going to so I'm a
little out of breath because I just
finished my workout but it's gonna be a
lot of fun and I'm gonna take you along
with me share all the wins all the
failures along the way and who knows
we'll see what happens but I just want
to thank you so much for all your
support over these last eight years
here's to another eight years and I hope
you'll follow along with me and I wish
you all the best of luck with your
business too and see you on smart
passive income thanks guys take care
love you
