They want me to pay $8,866

bank address to the Czech Republic.

What!?

So not too long ago

I filed for a couple of trademarks

to protect the names of my online courses

And I'm really excited

because we got those trademarks in.

Which is really cool.

I'm gonna open these in just a minute.

But, I also got letters like these from

the World Patent and Trademark Service,

the World Trademark Register,

the US Trademark Compliance Office,

the World Organization for Patents and Trademarks.

That sounds official, and a few other letters too.

And the truth is these are trying to take your money

and this is just a scam.

I mean, you don't need to pay the money

that they are asking you to pay.

So what I'm gonna do, is open these letters

and show you exactly what they are trying

to get you to pay for, and show you

why you don't need to pay for them.

It's important to file for trademarks, right?

To protect yourself and protect the name

of whatever it is you are creating.

But it's also important to know what's coming.

So the whole goal of this is to

make sure you don't get duped.

I'm gonna put this down cause it looks very dangerous.

Alright, so check this out.

We're here at the United States Patent

and Trademark Office, and there is is a whole section

on making sure you don't get fooled by

potentially misleading offers and notices

and I'll link to this in the description.

But you'll see here that there is a whole list

of examples of potentially misleading offers

and they actually ask you that if you find new ones

to put them on here so we can know exactly what

to look out for.

I mean this is crazy, these companies are

set up just to take your money

because they know you are vulnerable during this time.

You've just created something official

like a trademark and you want to protect it.

You might see this also when you file for names

of different companies or DBA's or

perhaps, you know other legal related things.

This is a time at which they know you're vulnerable

and they're trying to take advantage of it.

But don't let them fool you.

and you can verify that these notices that are coming in,

and really there aren't many that are going to come in

that are not coming from the United States

Patent and Trademark Office.

I mean, so let's open some of these.

Actually this one here you can see says

2017 Trademark Notification Inside Response Requested.

Like how official is this sounding?

And it's like really pressuring me

to wanna make sure that I do whatever this thing says.

So let me take this guy and open this up

and I'll show you, I will read

we'll actually see how much they are wanting me to pay.

It's a little envelope so I can put my money

in there and send it to them.

Alright, so let's look at this.

US Trademark Compliance Office.

Important notification regarding your federal trademark.

Trademark owner information, Flynndustries, which is true.

Serial numbers, all this other registration stuff

and then processing fee $495 and of course

a lot of fine print here.

And this is for the trademark Power-Up Podcasting

which is one of my courses.

And of course I can just detach this and put

my $495 in there and if I didn't know any better

I would likely do this.

There is also some terms and conditions.

Is this legal?

I mean, I can't say, I'm guessing its not

but they could be offering specific services

but services that aren't required for you to have

and own your trademark and do what you need

to do with it.

I mean this one here which is

the US Trademark Compliance Office.

I'm going to scroll down and see if this one is on here.

US Trademark Compliance Office from Wilmington, Delaware.

Wilmington, Delaware.

Yep this is the exact same one

so I'm going to click on that.

Boom.

That is the exact same one.

Hey, my fee went up.

This one says $425, they want me to pay $495.

What's the deal with that?

Let's open another one of these.

So that's one of them for about 500 bucks.

This one also includes an envelope.

Wow.

Okay this one for Power-Up Podcasting,

my world mark, $980.

So that's already $1,500

that I don't need to spend and obviously

the due date was last year and so I definitely

didn't do that and I am not in trouble.

So the whole purpose of this, I'm not even going to open

the rest of them, its probably over 4 to $5,000

worth of notices that I've gotten

for this one trademark alone.

Do not be fooled, again, if you're filing for a trademark

go to the link that's in the description

to the United States Patent and Trademark Office

and just verify that that notice is

actually something that is real

and I just want you to be safe.

You're trying to build your business,

this is just sad that these kinds of people exist

but, we have proof that this stuff is not real.

So I should put this down again.

Let's open the real one, so this is coming

from my attorney.

and this is what it looks like.

will protect my name and the name of the course

in court if I should have to go to that level

and it gives me the power to find somebody else

who may have and be using the same mark and make

sure that that is not being done.
