Why I Deleted My Facebook Group - Is Organic Marketing On Facebook Worth The Effort In 2018?

hey miles here miles Beckler calm and in
this video I'm gonna explain why I
deleted my facebook group now first off
personally I don't love Facebook I'm on
my fourth Facebook account and if I
didn't have to have a Facebook account
for running my advertisements on
Facebook advertising odds are I wouldn't
be on the platform at all you know one
of the things about Facebook that's
really interesting is that they have
kind of engineered ways through their
platform to trigger
dopamine's and to create these
interesting psychological some could
even say psychological attacks but
psychological loops that that really
create addictions of people going back
over and over another thing to keep in
mind is when you can't see what the
product is from a company that generally
means that you and I are the product so
the first thing that I just wasn't
stoked about with the group is I don't
own that racecourse that's not something
that I actually own and what I'm doing
by creating and growing a group on
Facebook is I'm actually creating more
reasons for you and me and hundreds of
others people to continue to hit that
dopamine feeder to go back in again and
again which ultimately gives Facebook
the opportunity to sell more advertising
you might notice all my youtube videos
here I don't run any sort of
advertisements my goal is to help you
get the content that you desire without
forcing you to have to kind of run
through a gauntlet of ads that are going
to distract you and make you think you
need things that you ultimately don't
because ultimately what you do need is
to push work to create and ship work to
create content and publish content the
theory of a 90 day challenge is really
quite simple you publish one piece of
content every day for 90 days and then
when you're done with that you keep
publishing and in that process you learn
all the little bits and pieces the
second thing that I feel like was going
on was it was creating a lot of people
to go back and talk about it instead of
doing the work and it was keeping me
from doing my work because I was getting
tagged in messages I was getting tagged
from new users coming in
there were people coming in trying to
shill different platforms and services I
had spammers coming to the group and the
moderation duties I feel like I was
spending about four to six hours per
week in that group and I just don't want
to kind of invest my time into another
platform in that manner now if I was to
do it again and I have a thought of
building a community on my own outside
of Facebook it would probably be on a
standalone forum and honestly it'll
probably be a paid situation because I
could very easily I get requests all the
time I can sell those hours for 500 to
$1,000 per hour doing consulting work
four to six hours a week you know I
could be anywhere from 2,000 to $6,000
per week additional revenue I don't want
to do that I don't actually want to
spend more time engaged in my business
I've got my business dialed in a manner
I'm working on my wife's business we're
kind of really truly deep in rolling out
our new plan for 2018 we're kind of up
to our ears and elbows in in work to be
honest and the free time that I have
available I need to make sure it's going
towards mental clarity towards my hiking
my meditation practice etc etc and I
found this group was actually kind of
cutting into that the the third I guess
main reason why I've ended that group is
because I don't want it to appear that
you need to run a Facebook group in fact
I want to show that you don't need to
run a Facebook group I believe that the
Facebook algorithm and that Facebook as
a corporation is going to continue to
make life more difficult for organic
marketers and I don't really feel like
tying my energy into that platform
because I don't feel I mean from an
organizational standpoint from an actual
community standpoint it's not a very
good location or way to actually keep
organize thoughts and keep things moving
forward so those are my reasons that's
kind of off the hip
if the funny thing is I've gone through
the actual deletion process of deleting
the group but I think it still actually
shows up there's no admins there's no
group members it still might actually
show up which is kind of funny and it's
another one of those examples of even
the process of deleting a group on
Facebook is not very clear it's very
challenging to do because Facebook
really wants to keep us all locked in
and tied in and hooked into and I'm
talking psychologically like deep almost
psychological warfare Facebook really
wants us to be reliant on their system
for certain levels of dopamine hits and
certain feelings that we get throughout
the day and I personally don't want to
contribute to that any more than I need
to I am even considering or weighing the
options of how much am I going to
advertise on Facebook this year am I
going to continue to scale into that
platform or am I going to leverage and
work harder on meeting people where
they're searching for our content versus
pushing my ideas into other people's
worlds through Facebook this is a very
personal kind of thought process this is
not a business decision and I'm blessed
to be in a position with my business to
think of the larger socio-economic kind
of mental stability things that Facebook
creates and to be able to think like do
I want my business revenue my business
expenses to go onto a platform that is
not doing good for the world or do I
want my kind of marketing budgets to go
onto platforms that simply help my
content show up when people are
searching for answers to their questions
stated super clearly like that it's
really actually an easy decision and
again luckily my business is at a point
financially where I don't need the
income I could continue to scale my
business in that direction but it's not
necessary for me to live the lifestyle I
want so I'm able to think these deeper
thoughts and those are those are
important thoughts to me to think I'm
personally working on removing my energy
from Facebook and my goal is to get to
where I'm logging in maybe once a week
or go into my ads only and then I leave
I don't really want to continue to be a
publisher on that platform by any means
whereas on YouTube here I have control
over the advertisements that play or
don't play on my channel so the content
that I'm able to put out I can put out
and make sure that it's not surrounded
by ads from people who don't have your
best interest in mind they're just
trying to make money off of you and make
you psychologically feel like there's
some lack or need in your life or in
your business that needs to get replaced
by the $2,000 thing that they sell so
I'm just I'm kind of in a deep thought
so if you're in the group know that here
on YouTube is obviously still the the
place to connect the comments here you
can leave me a comment I did enjoy
meeting the people I met in that group
and I am kind of masterminding or
thinking about what kind of community
could I create that could have a
positive experience for myself and for
all of the users as well because you
know energy management and how much time
it spends and takes from me is a key
thing because I need to be sure that
three year to five year plan of putting
out this content running my marathon for
three to five years I can't let myself
get distracted in that because that's
ultimately what I'm doing here and
that's where the goal goes so that's the
truth of it I just don't feel like
personally I was getting I mean I was
just getting a time suck and a
psychological suck and more
notifications and more needs to moderate
into this and very challenging from the
the administration side of things there
I think it opened up an avenue for
people to not do the work I think it
opened up an avenue for people to think
that discussing in there and talking
about the 90 day challenge was a thing
to do whereas like yes it's challenging
we all have our challenges we don't need
to necessarily express them and share
them with each other we need to go do
the work we need to put in the work
every single day day in day out it's not
talking about doing the work it's about
doing the work that's the most important
thing so here I am doing the work again
my goal also one thing I want to add on
since I'm pulling this away and kind of
recouping some of my time I'm planning
on doing more YouTube lights where we'll
have possibly screen shares I want to do
more funnel reviews I might do live
keyword research sessions to help kind
of really reinforce those skills that I
think are super important and to share
more of my knowledge with you in a
medium in on a platform that we have a
little bit more control over that isn't
kind of playing psychological warfare on
you and I both trying to get us to log
in to watch more videos and ads
essentially I'm here
have full control over the the fact that
the ads don't show up on the channel
which is why I'm a big proponent of
continuing to publish here and that's
just a personal philosophy it's not for
everyone if you have a successful
Facebook group and you like the process
you like the interaction great it's a
different kind of mindset and it's a
different personality type it's just
like how I don't enjoy the process of
and I'm not very good at writing to my
blog I still get content on my blog but
that's not what I do but yet bloggers
are very successful in what they do
right so it's this kind of life process
of becoming an entrepreneur and creating
a lifestyle business is a lot about
tuning into your internal feedback your
internal guidance what do I like about
this what don't I like about this is
this helping me is this helping others
and making decisions and honestly
eliminating those things that aren't in
alignment with your big vision
eliminating those things that aren't
supporting you in accomplishing your
vision and those things that are really
draining you ultimately it's really
important to let those things go by the
wayside so you can stay focused on those
things that that fill you with
excitement like these videos do here
that fill you with that feeling of kind
of you're doing your work in the world
and you're doing it in a way that is
kind of in alignment with everyone's
best interest and that's where I felt
like I got with that Facebook group so
it was a good experiment
I enjoyed the experiment for a while it
lasted but I'm glad to be free of it at
this point I think it's hilarious that I
followed Facebook's steps step by step
on how to delete the group and the group
is still there and it just goes to show
that Facebook does not make things easy
for us their goal is ultimately to
obtain and collect and own as much as
our of our information as they possibly
can as much of our content as they
possibly can and as much of our
attention as they possibly can and
they've psychologically created that
platform to trigger us in ways to get us
to keep going back and to look if
somebody responded and to get those
notifications and I have to deal with
those kinds of notifications and it's an
interesting platform it's an interesting
day and age we live in and my biggest
recommendation is as you move forward as
a content creator just take time to
reflect on what you're doing on how
you're creating content and be sure
you're honest
with yourself is this of service to you
because if you're not taking control of
your energy management and you're
allowing yourself to be drained in ways
that you're not paying attention to you
could potentially achieve or hit a point
where you reach burnout and that's a
deal breaker for the long-term vision of
your game so being willing to have those
boundaries in place and to be able to
turn on a dime and pivot and say that's
really not working for me and cutting
the cords it's an important part of
being an entrepreneur something we all
have to deal with and it's I'm
personally more of a proponent of being
proactive in these situations and I
highly recommend that you do to find the
platforms that work for you find what's
fun and easy for you to do me these
videos are definitely the fun and easy
so that's where all of my energy is
gonna go so I can keep making the best
videos I possibly can and do that for
you and again if you find Facebook
marketing and Instagram marketing
fun and easy for you great it has a
place in a business and for many
business owners it is a very very
successful way for them to grow their
audience grow their reach etc it's just
not in alignment with my personality and
I like putting out my content in places
like this where it can live for years
and years and years whereas a post on
Facebook or a post on Instagram has a
shelf life of a few hours maybe a day or
two but that's it
whereas this video can live a very long
life for people searching about Facebook
groups etc in the future and that's my
goal and I hope this has made sense
again if you were in the group I got
nothing but love for you and hit me in
here in the comments stay tuned here on
the channel hit the bell if you haven't
so you get notified when the videos come
out I'm still active engaged in the
comments here in YouTube if you're new
obviously hit subscribe if you enjoyed
this video hit me with a thumbs up go
ahead and engage as you do and if you
have any questions for me about this
about my philosophies on any of this
what happened etc feel free to get at me
in the comments I'm happy to converse
about this with you share my ideas I
know it's a little abstract I feel like
it's an abstract idea of what I've moved
forward and how I pulled this off but
it's intuitively I know that this is the
right direction for me to kind of sever
that tie and move forward in a way that
brings more positive positive energy
into my life instead of
like it's drain and it's dragging on me
every day I had to eliminate that and
you really it's important for all
entrepreneurs to focus on those things
and a way what are our activities every
day what are we doing and here at the
beginning of the year there's no better
time to be thinking these kinds of
thoughts we're laying the foundation for
next year and the years beyond I wish
you nothing but success in your business
and I hope these videos continue to be
helpful to you again engage however you
want to engage on this video and I thank
you very much for your time and I look
forward to connecting with you on the
next video until then be well
