5 Public Speaking Tips To Become A Captivating Speaker

hey this is stefan from
projectlifemastery.com in this video I'm
gonna share with you some public
speaking tips that can help make you an
incredible public speaker now I've been
doing public speaking since I was 19
years old before that is being very shy
and introverted and one of the reasons
why I got into public speaking in the
first place was a way to force myself to
overcome my shyness and become more
coughin and when I was 19 I lived in a
house with other friends and were all
committed to self-development and
everything and I used to put on his
public speaking nights every single week
where we used to get in front of an
audience just ourselves and her friends
and we'd practiced our public speaking
in a non judgment non-judgmental
environment and received a lot of
feedback and that was really useful for
me to help develop and get started
public speaking because a lot of it is
just getting in front of an audience
getting that practice and the hours
doing that and the more that you do that
the less than anxiety goes away the more
comfortable you get with it and the
better communicator the more articulate
that you become when I was 21 years old
I eventually enjoyed Toastmasters
Toastmasters org you can look it up it's
a great organization where there's tons
of public speaking groups all over the
world that you can join oftentimes for
free or for a small fee I started
joining that and that was really
beneficial for me they have certain
segments of Toastmasters called Table
Topics where somebody just gives you a
random subject that you have to go up
there and speak about without knowing
anything whatsoever it's totally improv
and you have to get up there and speak
about that subject in front of everybody
and then they're gonna give you feedback
on that as well so I find a lot of
experience just through Toastmasters
through speaking in front of my friends
and everything also watching a lot of
public speakers I'm a huge on Tony
Robbins Brian Tracy Zig Ziglar Les Brown
there's a lot of incredible speakers out
there that you can go to their seminars
or events learn from them watch how they
speak how they communicate as well as go
on YouTube and just do a search for them
and watch their speeches and
presentations you'll learn a lot just by
watching and trying to model a lot of
their speaking style
so those are some great ways to get
started another part of my journey was I
when I was 21 I started a business a
coaching and some in our business here
in Vancouver doing dating coaching and
helping men be more confident and more
social with meeting the opposite sex
doing that I spoke at hundreds of
seminars and events we used to do free
seminars every two weeks we do three-day
boot camp events and everything and I
gained a lot of experience doing that
and then now the next level has been me
doing these video blogs recording myself
in front of a camera and I also
occasionally do some public speaking
events as well now the biggest tip that
I can give you when it comes to public
speaking is first and foremost get a lot
of experience the more experience that
you can have speaking in front of a
crowd the more confident and again the
better communicator that you're gonna be
it doesn't matter if you just have
friends and you can take initiative and
do public speaking events at your house
or those Toastmasters like I said
there's a lot of great resources there
to help you get that experience for
doing public speaking okay and if you
don't have that another great strategy
is just doing what I'm doing right now
take out a camera and record yourself
speak in front of the camera on a
specific subject I've gotten such I've
gotten so much better of a public
speaker by doing this because when you
record herself you're able to watch it
afterwards and you become aware of
different ways that you're communicating
that you didn't know before for example
you might think that you're speaking you
know fine and great but then once you
watch the video of yourself you realize
that maybe you have a weird mannerism
you know or maybe you have a weird you
know way of speaking or body language or
you're saying umm nah you know or
whatever it might be and I know I've
been guilty of that so many times and
whenever you've watch it you're like wow
I didn't even know that I was saying
that or I looked like that or I came
across that way and that awareness at
first it's gonna be painful because
you're gonna be embarrassed that you've
been speaking and communicating this way
your entire life but once you are aware
of it and you get over that pain and
that embarrassment you can now change it
and make it better and better and better
and that's one thing that I'm always
focused on is I know where my weak
points are and I'm trying to make them
better in bed
just to practice continuously and just
by doing that I'll become a better
speaker over time in fact if you watch a
lot of the videos that I put out in my
youtube channel for a few years ago
you'll be able to see the progression
and the transformation in me you'll see
how my speaking style has evolved and
changed in fact I have a lot of seminars
that have recorded from years ago when I
was 21 years old and it's great to see
the progress happen over time okay so
that's my main tip that I want to give
you is get that practice the experience
record yourself watch yourself so that
you can improve that way also the other
tip that I want to give you as well is
communicate with passion communicate
with excitement it's not what you say
but it's how you say it
93% of communication is non-verbal only
7% are the words and what most people
focus on the 7% they're so fixated on
what to say and they're totally ignoring
how they're saying it the other 93% if
you focus on your body language your
state your eye contact your presence the
way you're standing that we've moved
your gestures your voice tonality those
are gonna have more of an impact on
other people and it's gonna make what
you say a lot more powerful so I've seen
so many people they get up in front of a
stage and they could say the best
information the best content out there
but they're boring right there is kind
of standing there and I'm sure you've
seen this before they just stand there
and I'm sure you've seen YouTube videos
as well where they just aren't engaging
at all maybe they're looking at the
ground or slumped over their voice is
quiet there's no excitement there's no
animation and of course because of that
you're not going to be that engaged by
it whereas you could ask somebody where
what they're saying might not be the
most incredible information out there
but they're communicating with so much
passion excitement energy and enthusiasm
that it makes what they're saying what
they're talking about that much more
exciting be it enthusiastic find the
magic in the mundane make the ordinary
extraordinary you know just amplify what
you're saying and it doesn't matter what
you're talking about it but
you can make anything engaging and
exciting if you communicate with passion
and emotion okay so I really want to
emphasize that the 93% the nonverbal
communication the body language the
gestures the energy the voice if you
focus on that then you'll have so much
power in your communication another
piece of advice that I want to share
also another great tip is having a
really empowering Y and reason for why
you're speaking before I get up to speak
even for a video for a seminar I asked
myself certain questions I asked myself
why is what I'm gonna share really
important why is it important why do
these people have to hear this how can I
serve these people at the highest level
how can I make what I have to share get
through to these people so that they
actually apply it I'll ask myself why do
I care about these people why do I
respect them am I just by focusing on
that it gives me more motivation more of
a purpose behind what I'm sharing
because when I get up to speak I really
in my heart of heart want to communicate
what I want to share with them and get
them to apply it and have it sink in on
such a deep level because I believe that
it's important I believe that what I'm
gonna share is gonna change their life I
believe that you know it will change
their life and I care about them I care
about everyone that I'm speaking to and
when you have that level of caring that
passion excitement and it's not fake
it's real because you're putting
yourself in that state before you're
getting up to speak and so putting
yourself in the right state of mind
asking yourself those questions knowing
what you're gonna say is important it
can change their life they can improve
their life it can entertain them it can
do whatever
that's what's gonna allow you to make
the biggest difference I don't worry as
much about how I look or any of that
sort of stuff I focus purely on serving
in every video that I do at least the
best the best that I can with it and if
you have that mentality when you're
going up to speak or whatever it is and
you have that passion people are gonna
remember that it's not gonna be as much
about the content or whether you you
messed up or you memory you didn't
memorize it properly or whatever it is
just that can meet the this
that you're in the confidence you have
the passion the charisma that's what's
gonna make the biggest difference so
hopefully these tips are gonna help you
with public speaking with whatever the
occasion might be for you practice
practice practice will get better and
better at it and hopefully you apply
some of these techniques and it makes a
difference for you thank you for
watching I'll see you in the next video
