hey there my name is Chris winter and
welcome to my affiliate marketing
tutorial for this year now if you're a
complete beginner this video is going to
show you exactly the best ways to get
started with affiliate marketing the
different things to look out for the
different traps to watch out for and the
ways to make more money which is
something that I've been fortunate
enough to do for the last eight years I
do affiliate marketing where I've been
able to make thousands of dollars a
month doing pretty much things that you
can do even
anyway let's jump into it and get
started talking about affiliate
marketing so the first thing that you
need to do if you want to get into
affiliate marketing is pick a nation
this is actually really important and
definitely something that you need to
you know spend a day or two really
thinking about if you don't order niches
it's essentially a topic that you're
going to talk about and then find
programs which you're going to promote
so the best way to explain it is to kind
of explain what I've done in my kind of
career and how it's worked for me so I
love photography and it's definitely
something that you want to do is find
something in the at least relatively
passionate about so for me my passion
has been photography and cameras so what
I did was create a camera YouTube
channel which reviewed cameras tested
them out and then from there I was able
to promote affiliate Pro products
through Amazon and a number of different
products so what you need is a niche
that's going to be something that you
can talk about and create content with
the way that I would be able to make
money through affiliates is through
promoting those cameras and if someone
bought them I'd make a commission on
that so what kind of niche could you do
well there's so many different niches
and they will kind of vary with the
amount of affiliate products that they
have the payouts that you can make and
also just the availability and the
difficulty to get into the programs so
one niche for example is the online
business niche there are lots of
different products that you could sign
up for or essentially affiliate programs
that you can sign up for there are
different web design ones so there's a
lot of web hosting companies which will
have really good affiliate programs so
you can look at Bluehost wpengine
SiteGround Hostgator and what they'll do
is they'll really help you
you know make a decent amount of money
because anyone who signs up with them
for them is going to make you know $65
$100 for every sign up but the niche
itself is going to be important because
you need to be able to talk about that
product and you need to be able to make
content with that product cuz that's
essentially what we're gonna be talking
about in a bit it's all going to come
down to the content by the way guys if
you are enjoying this video make sure to

to find a good affiliate program and
stick with that affiliate program what a
lot of people will do when they get into
affiliate marketing is they'll sign up
for 20 different programs you know get
all excited and think man I can make you
know ten thousand dollars a month in
each of these programs and if I do it
times twenty you know I'm gonna make two
million dollars it's generally not that
way what I would highly recommend is
finding one affiliate program maybe two
and then sticking with that and really
working hard to kind of build that from
the ground so for example for me I chose
the Amazon Associates Program which is
one of the most popular Associates
Program and I worked on that for around
about four or five years so with my
photography channel
I pretty much promoted Amazon all the
way with that so if anyone wanted to buy
a camera I'd link them to Amazon and
that way it really does work well there
are lots of different programs which you
can choose but what I would highly
recommend is picking one that's got a
pretty good reputation so the Amazon
Associates program is probably one of
the largest in the world in fact it is
the largest in the world you know there
are millions of people promoting on
Amazon and they've got a really good
reputation of making sure that you get
paid you get paid on time and their
commissions are okay the Amazon
associates programs commissions are
around about four to eight percent which
doesn't sound like a lot but if you can
drive a lot of traffic you can actually
make a decent amount of money the other
great thing about the Amazon Associates
Program is that
they're cookie is 24 hours which again
doesn't sound like a lot but it's on
whatever anyone purchases so they don't
have to just buy a phone or a camera if
they end up buying a table or a pair of
shoes you'll also get a commission on
that so what you really want to do is
find a good program that's going to have
high commissions if you can get
recurring commissions so I know a lot of
programs such as teachable you know and
other kind of online places like Aweber
and things like that that will often
have a 30% recurrent Commission this can
work really well as well because you're
gonna be getting commissions every week
as long as the people stay signed up
next time you need to find a platform to
promote your affiliate programs now 10
years ago or 20 years ago it would have
been start a blog these days I would
highly recommend starting a YouTube
channel for a number of different
reasons first off I find it easier to
create YouTube videos than to create a
blog because I'm not a great typer but
if you love to write maybe a blog is the
right way for you but you know a lot of
people do watch youtube videos more than
they watch then they read these days
simply because we have shorter attention
spans and we like to communicate and
kind of have a better kind of
interaction with the person which I find
you can do a little bit better on video
the other thing is that you can really
show off the programs that you're going
to be promoting a lot easier with things
like scream chat screen capture which
I'm sure I've done a little bit in this
video and you can really show you all of
the features or you can even do
tutorials so you can choose which one
you want I would recommend YouTube no no
doubt you can do affiliates through
Instagram which can be great if you've
got a larger platform the only issue I
find with Instagram is that they don't
allow links really you know you can have
links in the Instagram stories when
people swipe up or you can have it in
their bio for me it's not great
Twitter's good but the problem with
Twitter is that they all of your tweets
have a really short attention span a
life span so they might
you post a link but it's gone within 24
hours because people are seeing other
things and then there's snapchat as well
honestly the best - - for me are YouTube
and a blog and if you can create an
email list as well because that's a
great way in which you can constantly be
sharing your affiliate links but like I
said before I would find a platform and
I would probably just recommend sticky
with YouTube you don't even have to have
your face in the videos but if you can
it's gonna be a better thing and the
other great thing about doing affiliate
marketing for YouTube is that your
videos generally have a longer life span
now you're probably watching this video
you're rather watching it just when it
came out or it's gonna be a few months
down the track and the great thing about
this and it's like what would I said
about Twitter and Instagram and things
like that
get Twitter and Instagram those the life
span of your posts are generally going
to be one day maximum whereas on YouTube
people can find your content from years
back so with a lot of my photography
videos that you toriel's and reviews and
things like that
people watch them you know months later
years later after I've made the video
and you can continue to get those that
feel like commissions that way so next
up I'd take a look at what your
competitors are doing your other people
who are promoting the affiliate links
and see what's working for them a great
way to do this is to just go to YouTube
or whatever and type in the the URL of
the platform that you want to be an
affiliate for so for example if I wanted
to promote em one finance for example I
just search into YouTube and one finance
comm and from there you're gonna see all
of these people who are going to be
referring people to and one finance and
it's a great way to see exactly what's
working for them so you can see if
they've got a lot of views you can't
exactly see how many clicks it they've
got unless they're using a bitly kind of
link but it's a great way to see okay
this person here is clearly doing this
and it must be working because he's
doing a review for him one finance or
he's doing a tutorial but he's doing a
walkthrough or he's doing a or she is
doing things I don't like a bit and what
and finance its videos like that which
can often be a really good way of you
know promoting your topic in a kind of
subtle way so take a look at what your
competitors are doing subscribe to them
find out what they're going to be doing
and that's a great way to do it as well
the next thing is content content
content you need to be making content
around your affiliate product as much as
possible now you might think okay well I
can just make one review and I'm going
to be good a reviews generally don't
work as well for affiliate programs
because people are like well what are
you doing you're just reviewing and it's
just going to be then you're linking me
to your affiliate program now what I
would recommend doing is making you know
ten videos about your your topic or
maybe twenty videos about your topic so
for example for me I'm a big affiliate
with Shopify so I've made you know
twenty video is about Shopify best apps
for Shopify best things for Shopify
Shopify tutorial long Shopify tutorial
short Shopify tutorial and the reason
for this is because you never know who
is going to watch your videos whether or
not they're going to find your videos
and when they're going to be ready to
sign up for the program so you need to
make as much content as possible
whatever you feel is too much content
keep doing it because it's really the
best way that I found it so again let's
take a look at my old photography
channel you know pretty much every video
I made was linking to Amazon whether it
was linking to a list or linking to a
product or linking to the best ten
cameras or linking to a lens that I
talked about you just need to get
eyeballs on your content and then those
eyeballs going off to another to your
your affiliate program so really can't
stress this enough you need to make as
much content as possible daily content
if possible I know it's a little more
difficult with blogs but what I like I
said before go and see what your
competitors are doing make a version of
whatever they made make a you know if
they made a mm1 finance review for 2019
make one for 2020 do it before they've
done it and maybe it will help you rank
a little bit more but you really need to
make as much content as possible and get
those links out one really important
thing that I learnt with affiliate
marketing over the last few years it's
you want to be at the end of the buying
cycle with affiliates so essentially
what this means is that if someone is
buying a camera for example you don't
really want to be at the start of the
buying cycle you want to be at the end
so let's say that there's a new camera
dislodged well sure some people might
buy it straight away but probably not
people want to find out reviews and they
want to see tests and they want to see
you know a long-term review so if you
can be at the end of the buying cycle
when they're just about to buy it that's
when you want to be doing it because
that's when you're going to get the
Commission on the product so again a
great way to do this is to do tutorials
so tutorials are generally a great way
to do it affiliates because people are
either you know just signing up for a
product and they need to know how to use
it or they're just at that end of the
buying cycle another thing is to do a
review because again people are
interested in that name
the review might push them over the edge
to buy that product but really the
biggest key is that you want to be at
the end of the buying cycle rather than
the start so think about whatever
product it is if it's a email service
you want to be at the very end so just
as they're you know just enough to push
them over the edge to buy that product
that's a big thing it might be a little
bit confusing but I think you understand
another really important thing and this
one's definitely on youtube make sure
you put your links in the description
box below the video but make sure that
they're in the top three lines this is
just something that I see so many people
not doing people don't generally open
that you know the description box where
it says show more if you're putting your
affiliate links you know 15 lines below
at the very bottom no one's going to see
them so make sure that your affiliate
links in those top three lines and also
another kind of pro tip is to make sure
that they're in a comment as well and
these days with YouTube you can pin
those comments you need to make it as
easy as possible for people to click on
your links so that they go to your
affiliate products if people have to
search and there's just a little you
know one line of text that says you know
go here to sign up you're not going to
be able to get the amount of traffic
that you need to be able to make a lot
of money with affiliates so top three
lines with affiliate links and this is
really important and then review what
works make sure you go back and look at
how many clicks you're getting see where
if you
can see where the if you can put in
tracking details so you might have a
little bit of code which will have like
a campaign or something like that make
sure you do that for each different
video so for example if I have a
tutorial I'll often put in the link you
know
September 18 tutorial I'll have January
18 best Shopify apps or something like
that and then I can look in the
affiliate programs dashboard which ones
are converting the most if you can track
which links are really working this is
going to be the best way for you to
really succeed because then you can see
okay that one there
didn't make bring me any sales it's not
worth making any more of that whereas if
you have one that's got you know all of
your sales make more of those videos
double down on that and it takes a
little bit more time but if you do have
that tracking software built in I know
that for example Bluehost has it Shopify
has it you know you can do it with a
number of different kind of you can even
do it with the Amazon with their
tracking codes as well definitely get
started with tracking as soon as
possible so you can see exactly what's
working so hopefully you guys enjoyed

with affiliate marketing I'm gonna try

got a question saying what three
affiliate programs would you recommend
to start with I think it's gonna really
depend on the niche that you're in but
if you're in this kind of money-making
business online kind of niche I would
recommend the Shopify affiliate program
I think it's really solid they have very
good payouts so with the Shopify
affiliate program if someone signs up
for Shopify with just their basic plan
you'll get the first two months of their
Shopify payments so it's roughly I think
it's $52 essentially for everyone that
does that that's a really good one I'd
always recommend most people to sign up
for the Amazon affiliate program because
it's a really easy one to get into and
pretty much you can link to anything and
then you're gonna be making some money
with it and another one that I would
like is probably
bluehost I think Bluehost is a really
good affiliate program they're going to
be you know hosting your WordPress
website and again they've got really
good Commission's so those are the three
that I'd probably recommend for most
people do you put affiliate links on
youtube yeah absolutely and I think
that's one of the best ways to make a
good living off youtube so if you guys
don't know what I feel at links are or
essentially they're a way in which you
can kind of promote another brand so
let's say a good example is Amazon you
can put Amazon affiliate links on your
channel so a great way to do this is
with for example cameras I have a big
photography channel it's got nearly it's
got 400,000 subscribers if I review a
camera say a Canon 70d or something like
that I can put a link to Amazon in the
description box below the video under my
review and if someone goes and buys that
camera I can make around about four
percent commission on that so four
percent might not sound like a lot but
if you're selling a camera that's worth
$2,000 four percent of $2,000 is
actually $80 so that's $80 from me just
making that review and you know putting
that link there
now again $80 might not sound like a lot
even though 80 dollars a day he's
actually pretty good for work that
you've done a long time ago but if you
can have let's say 10 camera reviews for
tamarin different cameras that's
actually going to add up to you know
roughly eighty eight hundred dollars a
day so it's definitely a great little
niche that you can do so I would
recommend pretty much any channel to
have affiliate links in their YouTube
description and that's one of the great
things about YouTube is they allow you
to put links three lines of links under
your videos and also probably recommend
putting it in your first comment as well
and pin that comment because a lot of
the time people won't look into the
actual description box know look go down
and read the comments so definitely do
it and yeah Philly it's on YouTube is
actually a really good thing can you
make money from Amazon affiliates
absolutely you can in fact that's been
my main money earner for probably a
close to five years in Amazon affiliate
program can really work well especially
if you're in the right niche so I've
been probably making close to five to
ten thousand dollars a month on Amazon
affiliates pretty much every month for a
few years now and that's mainly from my
photography
so my photography channel is Chris
winter photography and on that channel I
review cameras I test out cameras I
teach people how to take photos and
things like that and essentially what
would happen is you know I will always
link nearly in all of my my videos to
the camera that I'm reviewing or the
lens that I'm reviewing or the tripod
that I'm talking about
or the deal that's available on Amazon
and essentially what you want to do is
get a a lot of people going to Amazon
that's kind of the way that it will work
with the Amazon affiliate program you
need a large amount of traffic but it's
totally possible especially with
something like YouTube where you can
really get a lot of people looking at
like say a review of a new camera or
something like that but yeah you can
definitely make at least you know a
couple hundred days at dollars a day on
Amazon affiliate how can I get more
views on my youtube channel that's a
really good question and it's a lot of
people you know trying to figure this
out and I guess that's the whole game of
YouTube but I've been doing YouTube for
probably four or five years now and you
know it took me a while to really figure
it out and every now and then I kind of
go back and forth on this but what I
really feel is probably the best
strategy for most people especially if
you're just starting out you don't have
a big kind of subscription base or
something is to target search traffic
and what is search traffic well it's
essentially traffic coming in from
search results so YouTube is the second
largest search engine in the world
behind Google and funnily enough it's
owned by Google so they are pretty
they're pretty big on search results so
essentially let's take for example on my
channel here you know I make videos
about business and you know also selling
on Shopify and things like that so for
example if someone's searching for a
Shopify tutorial what you really want to
do is show up on that kind of search
results on the first page you want to be
kind of top five results otherwise it's
not gonna be that great so for example
what I would do is really focus on my
tags and I would really focus on what
people are searching for so rather than
making you know videos about blogs and
you know things that people would never
search for because it's you know just
your day or whatever really try and
target what people were actually
searching for so for example you can go
into the Google search box and you can
see Shopify tutorial and Shopify
tutorial 2019 and
you know how to set up a Shopify site or
how to start a Shopify site you can make
videos on that and then I think that's
going to be a really good way to get a
few more views because you're going to
be relying less on the algorithm and
more on search results
