how to reach out to successful people

from Phuket Thailand and in this episode
of ask Stefan I'm going to cover how to
reach out to successful people and I'm
actually gonna answer a question the
original question which was how does
someone get in contact with someone as
busy and successful as yourself so
there's really two parts of this I'm
gonna answer from sharing the reality
and an honest truth of my circumstance
of my situation but then also provide a
bit of solution and some general advice
on how you can reach out to people that
are successful and that are very busy
first and foremost my situation is a
little bit unique because I'm a public
figure I'm someone that's on the
internet that literally has hundreds of
thousands of people that follow and
watch me online in fact my YouTube
channel gets over three hundred and
thirty thousand views every single month
my blog gets hundred thousands more and
of course my social media channels the
courses that I sell there's just a lot
of you know there's a lot of attention
there's a lot of a lot of reach that I
have a lot of people that are successful
they might not be in a circumstance that
I'm in so I might be a little bit easier
and different to actually get a hold of
someone like that that's not in the
public spotlight and doesn't have so
many people that are following them and
reaching out to them because the reality
of my situation is I literally get
hundreds of emails messages questions
comments every single day on my blog on
emails to my support team for different
courses different products that I have
different businesses that I have and so
what's happened is it's become literally
impossible for me to respond to
everybody okay in fact you know I would
have to have and I do have three
full-time people that work as customer
support just answering questions that's
our only job they just answer questions
that respond to comments they deal with
billing issues they you know direct
people in the right directions they help
solve people's problems I have to pay
every single month for a company to deal
with and handle all the messages and
inquiries that I have because I value
customer support and justice support in
general I have support for people that
aren't even my customers
that you know cost money asking for
advice or different questions that
whatnot but I always want to you know
find some sort of way to stay in contact
and at least provide an answer for most
people that reach out to me
so it's a challenge you know this is
actually one of the biggest challenges
that I had in my business as I started
scaling up because when I first started
my business my online business I was
very accessible because you know I
didn't have that many followers I didn't
have many people that were reaching out
to me and whatnot you know just starting
out doing YouTube videos and blog post
and you know very easy for me to respond
people is very manageable and then what
happened is as my business started to
grow and as I became more successful
which I think a lot of successful people
can relate to your life kind of changes
in a way number one you have a lot more
people that want stuff from you a lot
more people that follow you that look up
to you even in your personal life you'll
have you know old friends from high
school that will all of a sudden start
reaching out to you asking you for help
asking you for advice wanting to hang
out with you wanted to spend time with
you now
you know it's it's even though you know
family members and whatnot who you might
not even talk to you for months or even
years might you know all of a sudden
come out you know from the middle of
nowhere and start reaching out to you
wanting to go for coffee wanting them to
you know wanting you to coach them and
help you help them and all that sort of
stuff right so it's kind of an
interesting thing that you go through
when you're successful because you
notice people treat you differently to
respond to you differently a want stuff
from you you know people a lot of people
in a very taking mode they're not really
trying to add value to you but they're
trying to kind of leach from you and for
me you know at one point maybe two years
ago or so I became a little bit jaded by
that because I was a little bit
frustrated that these people didn't
really want to didn't really care that
much before and then all of a sudden all
of a sudden you know they may want
something something from me and they
start treating me a lot differently and
so it you know I had to overcome that
just by focusing on just loving people
and understanding that everyone out
there you know someone that is
successful you're gonna look up to him
and generally I know for myself I've
always looked out to people that were
further ahead than I was or maybe had
results that I wanted and so I can
relate to it from that perspective now
I think that in that situation someone
that is very successful that has those
circumstances what happens the only way
you can cope with it because it becomes
very overwhelming trust me I've been
through it and in fact a lot of people
get angry at you too and I know for
myself I was just getting hundreds of
messages and emails every day and I
couldn't respond back I try my best to
respond to people I care about people I
was wanting people to make people happy
and my people pleaser by nature and I
just you know I was just stressing out
so overwhelmed by it and some people I
didn't respond to you know in three days
later they would start sending me these
meaningful mean hurtful emails and
messages about not getting back to them
in fact I remember um you know I had
just one scenario with someone who added
me to Skype and you know back then I
would just let anyone add me to Skype
now you know I'm very private and try to
you know not let anyone just add me to
my personal facebook or my personal my
personal life but I had someone add me
and he starts sending me this whole like
message after message after message
their whole life scenario and everything
and I didn't respond back to that person
and that person started saying you know
I didn't care about people all these
negative things and it started attacking
me online you know it's just crazy
you know to have to deal with this sort
of those sort of things and I've had
that happen multiple times now and so
I've learned now just to try to try to
separate myself from that how they can
get a little bit crazy so basically what
every successful person is in my
situation has to do it at some point is
happen they have to make themselves less
accessible to the public meaning you
have to start to hire gatekeepers and
people that that help get in the way to
prevent people from being able to
contact you and it sounds a little bit
harsh sounds a little bit mean-spirited
but unfortunately that's the only way
that someone who is a somewhat of a
public figure figure can actually
operate and maintain their sanity and
still be able to focus on adding value
in helping as many people instead of
focusing on helping one or two people or
a few people I've learned that if I
create videos or content or products I
can reach hundreds of thousands of
people and I can actually leverage
myself and and impact more people that
way so that's a bit of the reality of
people that are very successful and arvy
busy is they actually have set up their
life so that people can't reach out to
them because they get so much of it it
gets so bombarded by it that it becomes
too overwhelming and too challenging for
them to actually deal with it okay so
how do you reach out to someone like
that someone that doesn't really want
you to reach out to them well most
people that are in this position they do
have ways that you can access to access
them for me for example I have different
programs that if you invest in you can
get my time you can get my personalized
time you can get my group coaching time
you can maybe get time for me on in some
sort of online format and there's
different levels of that that you know
people can get access to so for example
I have one on one coaching available and
most people that are very successful if
you offer the money which is some form
of value in exchange from value back
which is their time you can't just
expect someone's time and not it you
know if you want to give anything back
right you have to you know there has to
be some sort of fair trade you can't
just take and not give back so a lot of
successful people you know if you find
out what their rates are for coaching
for consulting you can pay the fee you
get access to them that's one way that
you can get access to me some people
might have group coaching programs which
can allow you to get access to them just
by having them you know answer the
questions maybe in a webinar maybe in a
live Google hangout or you know some
sort of medium like that that's another
way you're going to access to them but
again you know investing some money you
know if you expect them to bet invest
into you and give you value you have to
be willing to give value back okay
another way might just be through a you
know for example I have a full
disclosure Kindle K money mastery
program where people can join it and
it's a Facebook group community and I'm
you know I'm pretty active in there I
respond to people's questions I post
some different things I post some advice
some feedback and help people out that's
another level of access as well the
other level you know it's just YouTube
you know if you want to access to me for
free Here I am on YouTube I don't charge
anything on YouTube my blog my social
media I'm always sharing things I'm
always keeping away a lot a lot I don't
ask for any
being from it if you want to invest in
more for me if you want more here's you
know the different ways you can get
access to me cost some money because I
invest a lot of my own time and money
and energy and effort into creating
different programs and things are
available for people but if you just
want free access you know my youtube
channel and my blog I've got literally
hundreds of you know blog posts and
videos that are available for you as
well as a podcast totally free a lot of
great information and value that you can
get from me so there's different levels
to it I think ultimately what you need
to understand is that you need to add
value to the person if you expect to get
value back okay you know people that are
extremely busy they're getting so many
people that are messaging them emailing
them and everything that you're you're
just you know you're not going to be
able to reach out to them unless you
somehow stand out in some way and are
able to provide value whether that's
paying for their services maybe it's
working for that person you know that's
one way I've got a team of people that I
work with but again don't work for the
person expecting you know trying to take
from them and have them mentor and coach
you I mean fact I had one person that
recently reached out to me and said
Stefan you know I want to work for you
I'm gonna do whatever it takes to work
for you I'm gonna add value I'm gonna
work to you for you for free and help
you grow your business all that sort of
stuff I'm not gonna ask for any money
the only thing that I ask is for you to
coach and mentor me well that's still
going at it from the perspective of
trying to take from that person and this
person didn't realize that my time is
worth over a thousand dollars an hour
for one hour of consulting time and then
I'm not you know if you put in an hour
of your time into my business I'm not
going to give you an hour back of
coaching because the math doesn't play
make sense there so I can go don't come
in it from the perspective of trying to
take just try to add value to that
person in fact one great way you can
reach out to very successful people it's
put yourself in a position where they
reach out to you you know one strategy
that I've had for that is I just keep
adding value to the person and didn't
money even might not even know that I
exist so for example you know Dan Locke
is a good example of this someone who
was a mentor of mine years ago saw Matt
a seminar was really inspired by him and
I just started you know sharing with
people hey guys check out Dan Locke's
book I mentioned it in different YouTube
videos and sure enough people went to
buy Dan locks
a few money that I actually got on Dan
locks a radar because of this he saw
that I was promoting him he's like who's
this guy that is promoting me to send me
all these book sales he was really
impressed by that and he actually
reached out to me right so that's a much
more powerful position of being just
adding value to the person and you know
if you just consistently do that that
person eventually it's going to notice
you and might even reach out to you you
know I always share what I learned from
Tony Robbins I'm always promoting Tony
Robbins I've sent countless people to
his seminars and his programs and his
books and all that sort of stuff and I
don't make any money from that I just
you know I'm passionate about cuz he's
really impacted my life I'm gonna
sharing with you know constantly I'm
sure one day who knows when five years
ten years twenty years from now I'll
probably eventually meet Tony Robbins I
might eventually get to a position where
he might notice me and I might have some
sort of value that I can provide him in
terms of really helping him to promote
maybe something that he has going on in
his business or something that he has
going on in his life another way could
just be a meal making a large
contribution to his charity or his
foundation or volunteering with them and
just again constantly add value into his
goals his organization not expecting
anything back that's one potential way
that I could eventually you know become
in contact and and actually build a some
sort of relationship with someone like
Tony Robbins right so coming from it
from the perspective of adding value not
trying to take from that person they get
so many people that try to do that just
add value help them find out what their
goals are you know my goals are easy
they're all my blog I had one person
I'll give you an example one of my goals
was to I have a few goals around a
contribution of building different
houses and different schools for example
one is in Nicaragua going in June to
actually go and build it I had someone I
don't even know who this person is must
be maybe a follower or subscriber of
mine that donated two thousand dollars
to a campaign that I have to build a
school some school are some houses in
Nicaragua
that's an amazing where that guy got on
my radar right away I was like wow who's
this person that's so generous I was
really touched by that that I reached
out to the person and thank them for
that so you know that's another example
of adding value you know another example
you know for me personally adding value
is I
have different courses products video is
a blog I'm trying to help as many people
as possible that's my goal you know
again my goals are on my blog if you
start sharing my video sharing things
that's a way that I might you know you
might get on my radar I might notice
that like wow who is this person that's
really generous of them and I might
reach out to you know reach up to that
person you know just recently maybe a
few months ago actually a Greg Mercer
from jungle scow reached out to me I
actually promoted his software jungle
scout which is the software for doing
research for Amazon products and I've
enjoyed the software I've benefited a
lot from it and I promoted it and he
noticed me actually got a hold of me and
emailed me and we connected you know
there after that and actually he was
living in Bali at the time he was in
Vancouver and we met up hanging out in
Vancouver and that was all because I
added value to him all right I helped
him I didn't expect him to reach back to
me but you know you eventually got a
hold of me and I got on his radar so
what I'm trying to say is the best
advice that I have to reach out to
people again it's gonna sound repetitive
for the hundredth time now in this video
but find a way to add value to them try
to find a way to help them or at least
elevate yourself to get on their radar
where you're doing amazing things that
they want to seek you out that's the
other best way of doing it besides that
invest in maybe their training or
coaching their products invest in their
time that's really the other best way of
doing it so I know it might sound again
it's something that maybe a lot of
people don't want to hear but it's the
reality it's the truth of the situation
of people that are in that situation I
wish it was a lot easier and I wish
there was some sort of secret or formula
that I can give you but again you know
people that are in that position you
know they have a lot of people that try
to take from them and you know it's it
can be challenging I think trying to
sympathize with these people instead of
trying to judge them or you know start
it try to be angry at them for not being
so as accessible or maybe think you
don't care or whatever these people
really do care the people that are the
most successful people that are public
figures they really do care about people
they really love people and really want
to help people you know I know that's
why I do what I do but it pains me
inside knowing that I can't help
everyone and make everybody happy that's
one thing you have actually have to give
up when you become successful is
attempting to make everyone happy
because that's something that just can't
happen you know you can't you can't be a
people pleaser you have to eventually
put yourself first and prioritize your
time to your loved ones or family they
deserve your time for some for most you
know your your friends people you have
personal friendships with that you're
coaching clients would be the next level
of priority you know some of your
customers and then you know event people
after that so that's it guys hopefully

persistent with it as well you know keep
trying keep being persistent don't give
up and you know and and and again try to
