WHY I LEFT CANADA AND MOVED TO PANAMA

hey what's up guys Stefan here from
project life mastery comm and I've got
some big and exciting news to share a
few guys to update you guys on my
journey which is that recently Tatiana
and I have moved to Panama to Panama
City Panama and I know if you guys
follow me on Instagram and social media
that you've already heard the
announcement and you've been waiting for
a video like this for me to share the
details of it or if you guys follow my
goals reports every month and I've been
hinting at this for the last few months
but now that it's finally official they
have moved to Panama I've declared
non-residents to Canada of left Canada
completely I've gotten rid of my
penthouse I sold my car got rid of most
of my stuff I'm kind of living a
minimalist kind of lifestyle right now
and by the way guys the last few months
have been crazy beyond what I could ever
possibly imagine just how busy that we
were especially for my circumstances of
moving to a foreign country having
multiple corporations dealing with a lot
of accountants a lot of lawyers a lot of
logistics to that that I've now finally
had a chance to take out my camera and
record a video for you guys and share
with you guys the journey and the plans
ahead for us and what our vision is that
we're gonna that we're gonna be creating
so you're probably wondering why Panama
why did you guys just decide to move to
Panama well this is actually a decision
that we made last year and we've been
spanning you know quite a few months now
since last year planning and
strategizing around this but you know it
really kind of came down to Tatiana and
I planning out our life or future
together and as you guys know a big
person in creating a vision for your
life and having a plan and and being
able to create you know create that turn
that into a reality for yourself and you
know Tatiana I thought you know when do
we want to settle down when do we want
to have a family when do we want to have
kids and what do you want to know how do
you want to live our lives and one of
the things that we've always wanted to
do was to live in a foreign country to
just take off and just live in a new
country and learn the language and
immerse ourselves in that culture
because one of the as you guys know one
of the privileges of having an online
business is it gives you that freedom
you know being able to just have your
laptop with you in my case my laptop and
my cameras and I can take that with me
anywhere in the world and I can
I can live my life and I'm not tied down
to Canada in any way but we thought you
know well in the next few years I'm
going to have a family and you know have
kids and whatnot
now is the time to do this you know
now's the time to be able to live that
life to travel the world to live in a
brand-new country and you know often I
think maybe when you have kids and a
family especially you know young kids
it's probably a lot less likely that
we're going to want to do something like
this and so part of it was you know we
always wanted to do something like this
another reason for it too is in our
grand scheme of things our plan was we
thought about where do you really want
to live where do you want to have the
family and where do you want to settle
down and kind of have as our home and
our residence and you know when I'll
tell you guys a story when I was in my
early 20s I first kind of learned about
the law of attraction and you know
planning out your life and I used to
make these vision boards and I used to
go through these magazines that had like
these dream homes and these beautiful
pictures of these amazing homes and I
remember just cutting out these pictures
and putting them on my vision board and
one thing I was always consistent
whenever I create a vision board is that
the homes that I'd always you know
imagine myself living in we're always in
California you know just having this you
know beautiful home with a swimming pool
or living right on the beach and living
that in about in that environment and
over the last few years
Tatiana we've traveled all over the
world we spend a lot of time in
California you know just earlier this
year last year we're spending quite a
bit time in Los Angeles and Malibu and
San Fernando Valley and Orange County
and San Diego just you know really
trying to spend a few months out of the
year there just to really see how we
like it and and just kind of even go
into a lot of open houses and seeing
where we want to live one day and for us
that's always been the long-term plan
and so knowing this we thought well if
we're gonna leave Canada anyways no get
me wrong Canada is great I love
Vancouver I've lived there you know my
whole life pretty much but the one thing
that we never really liked about living
in Vancouver Canada has been the weather
the climate though Vancouver is a
beautiful city but eight months out of
the year the weather can be kind of
lousy you know it's a lot of rain and
dark cloud
days and that's why often times Tatyana
and I've always kind of traveled a few
months of the year and we never really
been inspired to start a family in
Canada you know I looked at different
homes there and everything but I've just
never been ignited by that and so for me
living in LA living in California that's
always kind of been the dream that I've
had since I was younger and we kind of
realized well if we're gonna have to
leave Canada anyways and become
non-residents and by the way when you
leave Canada the way that Canada works
is that they tax you worldwide on your
residency okay so as long as they're a
tax resident of Canada you get taxed
worldwide on that we decided you know
why are we paying taxes in Canada and
living here when we're not even really
spending much time out of the year
living in Canada we don't want to live
there long term and and here I've got
this pentose that I'm spending eight
thousand dollars a plus per month for
and I've got this sports car that I
never drive and I just thought you know
right now for our lifestyle it just
didn't really make sense and so we
decided you know what now is the time
for us to leave Canada because we leave
Canada too there's actually a departure
tax because there's a deem disposition
that happens where you've deemed to have
sold all of your assets at a fair market
value and then reacquired them so for me
as you guys can probably imagine it's a
very significant tax for me to have to
be able to leave Canada and I realize
this a lot smarter for me to do this
earlier knowing that this is our plan
and our vision rather than later when
it'd be a lot more costly so we decided
to do it we a lot of planning a lot of
strategizing around it we decided that
Panama is a great place to live I've
been there a few times I've got a lot of
friends in Panama it's the most
developed and westernized part of
Central America is very very much known
for a lot of international banking and
business it's a very tax friendly
jurisdiction there's actually no taxes
on any foreign income so it's very
beneficial for me and there's not much
requirements for residency there is
pretty easy to become a resident I
actually already have a corporation in
Panama
and so to become a resident it's a lot
easier because I can use that for
economic ties and you only have to be
there one day every two years to remain
a resident of Panama so it just made a
lot of sense on a lot of different
levels and it's a great hub to kind of
travel from as well so we decided to go
for it and to take that leap of faith
and to get outside our comfort zones now
I thrive in things like that guys I love
to switch things up and travel that's
one of the things that I love most about
having an online business is allows me
to to be anywhere that I want anywhere
that I choose and so we decided to move
to Panama for probably gonna be in
Panama for the next few years and then
eventually when we're ready to settle
down and attract that dream house that
we want to live in one day and start a
family that's when we're gonna start the
process of immigrating to the United
States and you know moving to California
and in which case you know it's gonna be
a very different lifestyle but also I've
always wanted to live kind of as a
minimalist you know I've kind of lived a
life now for the last few years of
living in pent houses and and a more
luxurious life and you know when I first
started making a lot of money um I
started upgrading my lifestyle and I
bought a sports car I accumulated a lot
of stuff and it's amazing how much
attachment oftentimes we can have to
physical materialistic things and I'm
not a materialistic guy at all I
actually value experiences so much more
and so for the last you know a few
months or so getting rid of almost
everything has been a really powerful
process there's actually a great
documentary I highly recommend you watch
I think it's on Netflix called I think
it's called minimalism or something
around that and I watched it maybe about
a year ago and I always kind of inspired
me and I'm by no means a minimalist
still I mean I'm kind of living out of
suitcases right now and by the way right
now I'm actually in Miami Florida
because we're just here for a quick
stopover right now this is an air B&B
and this is a hammock right here which
is kind of cool but I've always kind of
wanted to live a minimalist lifestyle at
least for a little while and so really
over the next few years I'm just gonna
kind of be living out of a suitcase so
I'm gonna be
traveling around traveling the world
live in the laptop lifestyle living a
more simplified life and I'm really
excited just for the journey the
progress and being able to share that
with you guys
I always remember if you ever seen the
movie Fight Club one thing that Tyler
Durden says is that the stuff that you
own ends up owning you and it's been a
quite a powerful experience just to
detach myself from materialistic
physical things and and just living a
more simplistic life so I'm excited
about the journey as you guys can
imagine again it's been a lot of work to
get here even just kind of selling
pretty much sold all my stuff and I've
been working with my my assistant over
the last few months listing all my
furniture all my stuff on Craigslist the
penthouse that I was living in they
actually rented it out to an actor and
they're actually filming a TV series in
Vancouver so that person was able to
take over my apartment and take over
even by a lot of my furniture from me
which is great I sold my car too and the
crazy thing is you know I remember like
a year ago I was gonna buy a Lamborghini
and then I thought you know is the crazy
thing I'm so happy I didn't because I
have a great sports car that I had owned
for years
and I never even really drew drove it
that much and that was kind of part of
the decision to I was like you know I've
got this sports car that just sits there
because I'm traveling so much and
especially in Vancouver downtown you
don't really need a car you just kind of
walk around everywhere so it's been a
great process just kind of getting rid
of all that stuff for now at least I'm
sure all returns you know that kind of
lifestyle in a few years once I'm done
traveling and whatnot but you never know
but I'm excited to share with you guys
the journey share with you guys the
different parts of the world that we'll
be visiting in you know of course
there's a lot of a lot of logistics and
details I've had to work with lawyers in
Panama accountants in Panama lawyers and
accountants in Canada as well to
surround leaving departing Canada
you know you because when you leave
Canada when you become a non-resident of
Canada you have to sever ties with
Canada completely you can't have any
physical stuff there and that's been
quite a process
even kind of moving to a new country and
and I've got an assistant and Panama now
too which has been really helpful
because we've had to meet with the banks
and get set up a bank accounts and all
the things that all the details of that
but one of the benefits also though of
this is that I still get to keep my
Canadian citizenship so I'm still a
Canadian citizen okay I'm still got my
Canadian passport it's just my my
permanent residence location has changed
because that's how Canada taxes you it's
very different than the United States
the United States they tax you worldwide
based on your citizenship okay and it's
actually a lot more beneficial for me to
do this as a Canadian than an American
because if you're an American you
actually have to denounce and get rid of
your citizenship to be able to do a
level of what I'm what I'm doing right
now so that's the great thing I'm still
Canadian citizen also one thing I've
learned also when you create a lot of
wealth and financial abundance in your
life you want to be thinking about how
to protect your wealth and one of the
things that the wealthiest people do is
they don't have all of their money in
one country one bank account they often
go offshore they use international banks
there's certain banking systems they're
actually a lot better than Canada or
especially the United States and even
also having multiple passports too so
one of my goals on this as well is I
actually want to get a Panamanian
passport become a Panamanian citizen
because when you have different
passports in the event that there's a
rule you know an economic crisis or
something like that that might happen or
a war it's very useful to be able to
have different passports and that
circumstances
great book I'll throw another one for
you guys neil strauss who's one of my
favorite authors wrote a book called
survival survival and it's how to
survive if you know the world goes you
know crazy there's an apocalypse there's
a nuclear war a financial crisis
whatever it is he has a lot of really
great advice on how to be able to deal
with situations like that and he gives a
lot of great tips for that too
so what more can I say I mean I asked
pretty much the gist of the decision and
why we're doing it like I said I'm
excited to share with you guys the
details of it it's going to be an
incredible journey
and you know the great thing is too you
know we can always come back to Canada
to visit at different times in the
future we love you know summertime in
Vancouver you know maybe number of years
from now we might eventually get a
vacation home there and you know we can
kind of live the lifestyle that we want
to create and I think for everyone it's
different everyone has a different idea
of the life they want to live and and
what that is for them but you know my
advice for anyone watching this is to
pursue that first it starts with the
plan have that vision for yourself and
then break down what that what it's
going to take for you to be able to
create that and break down that plan and
and then just take those steps towards
achieving it and for me this has just
always been a long-term plan a long-term
dream that I've had and and I just feel
so blessed to be able to be in a
position where I can just take my camera
take my computer with me and be able to
operate and live this life and actually
be able to share this journey with you
guys and hopefully be able to inspire
you guys to pursue your dreams and the
ultimate lifestyle that you want to
create so when I thank you guys for
watching I look forward to sharing more
with you guys in the future take care
