Aviod paying for Lycos !
I paid the 3 year subscription before the end date but since then i have had up to 40 spam emails daily . I spend more time deleting spam emails than my genuine ones . I have opened several tickets to complain , at first they said the provider needs to learn the spam and it will soon stop , however it has not and the only thing that has stopped is the support response ! I have had free Lycos for well over 20 years and never had this spam issue . I'm regretting the 3 year subscription and will spend the remaining time transferring to a alternative email and phase this pitiful site out !

I had no clue who Lycos was until I checked my PayPal and they charged me 4.95 for no reason. I dont understand how this happened but I put a block on my account so they wouldn't do it again. Thieves.....Paid account deleted without warning!!!

SECOND UPDATE:
Today is Thursday, February 7, and my Lycos account is still behaving. My view of the service has gone from a single star to three stars and, now, four stars.
I still have no idea what caused that serious (an understatement!) glitch, but the important thing is that the people at Lycos got on the ball and corrected it with everything now back in place as it should be.
The first UPDATE (shown below -- and you can scroll on down after that to read the review) -- was written later in the day.
This shows a lot of dedication on the part of Lycos to get things corrected in a manner that was both prompt and efficient.
Thank you, Lycos, for a job well done!!!

UPDATE: My email has been restored, so I'm going to rate it higher now, Lycos is on probation. Will see what happens next. For now, it's up to a three. Will see how it behaves. It might even make it up to five stars if it's still behaving in December. Just call me Santa Jo and know that I can stuff a stocking nicely or bring out my coal, switches, and reindeer poop...
Today's Date: February 6, 2019
THIS is the date that I went from where, if I had reviewed it, giving my Lycos mail service five stars to actually reviewing it with a single star rating because there was no zero stars option.
My email was deleted without warning in the middle of the night as if it were a free account when, in fact, it was a PAID account with nothing due until several months from now.
They said that, if I paid my $49.95 for a three year subscription, it would be restored -- but my back emails wouldn't be.
This is pure BULL!!!
I had the payment arrangements where they would be taken out automatically through the Master Card that goes with my bank account.
As I said before, nothing was due to come out until the last part of the this year (2019).
When I tried to get help through their so-called support, my email address and password were no longer recognized.
How convenient! They can avoid confrontation that way!
I usually try to give individuals and businesses the benefit of the doubt...which is probably why I needed to give them at least one star.
And I WAS able to receive a lot of emails over the years, so that single star might be for taking that into consideration.
And, at one time, it DID give me free email until such a time that I could afford to have a paid account.
However, this is so costly to me when it comes to loss that my rating of it isn't actually zero stars but at least minus-one star and, most likely around a minus-three stars with a wind-chill of 50 stars below zero!!!

I'm sorry for the confusion. Unfortunately, as of July 15, all accounts that didn't upgrade to a Lycos Mail Plus plan were deleted.
We provided a month as a grace period to activate and recover all emails. It is impossible for us to retrieve any data in those accounts.

Trying to help a client fix their site. Lycos has been extremely unresponsive and we cannot even get them to fix DNS (broken in their system for one of the domains) or send auth codes so we can be free of their system and transfer the domains away. They are more or less holding these domains hostage. Completely unacceptable and possibly illegal.They just closed my free email account…
They just closed my free email account and deleted all my messages. I have contacted the customer service and they told me that they sent a message warning me about the account deletion, that all free email accounts were deleted and unfortunately I couldn't recover any messages even if I pay the premium service!
I had an account for more than 15 years! So I haven't noticed their warning message amongst the email spams I receive everyday and lost my account and all messages.

Extremely bad, I would give their service -1 star if I could. Also, their customer service is a lottery draw. Maybe you'll get an answer, or maybe not! If you actually get lucky, and they respond to your request, problem, questions, it usually takes them a week or two to answer. Which doesn't mean at all they will resolve your issue! In my case, they just deleted my account, without any notice, and all.my files were lost. When I contacted them about it they just told me it is deleted... No explanations, no apologies, no any kind of compensation... Really awful company, avoid it at any cost.
