what's up everybody Pat Flynn here with
episode 32 of SPI TV thank you for
joining me today today we're gonna be
talking about something called the soft
pitch pipeline was that well I'm gonna
explain but it all has to do with
affiliate marketing a great way to
generate an income online in a non
sleazy way here we go so to start off
affiliate marketing month here on SPI
it's November and I want to talk about
something really important which is
affiliate marketing now there's a lot of
ways to go about it but I have a general
philosophy that makes sure that when you
times people they kind of get excited
about it and they jump into it too fast
and they actually don't end up promoting
promoting things that work or generate
an income but at the same time they
sometimes piss off those who they're
pitching to so the whole purpose of this
soft pitch pipeline which is sort of a
methodology I've created it's to help
you understand how to do it in a way
that makes sense for you and the
products that you're promoting and also
your audience and the goals they're
trying to achieve and that's what I've
called the soft pitch pipeline you're
looking at a microscope right now
because we're gonna deep dive right into
it so the soft pitch pipeline allows you
to tee up the products that you're
promoting to your audience and by T up I
mean just make it extremely easy for
them to understand exactly how they can
help them so that they can knock it out
of the park for you and like I said it
becomes a win for everybody it's a win
for you because you're earning
Commission it's a win for your audience
because they're finding these products
very easily and they are actually
helpful and it's also win for the
product owner because they're making
Commission's you're building that
relationship with them too and so
everybody's happy now a lot of people
when they get into affiliate marketing
they don't know what they're doing and
the hard thing is it's very easy to do
affiliate marketing it's pretty simple
to find a product out there that you can
promote to your audience but it's very
difficult to master and you can be like
this guy flying a helicopter upside down
it just does not look safe and it's not
because the trust that you've built with
your audience is the most important
thing in the world and the moment you
promote something that doesn't help them
the moment you do it for the wrong
reasons is the moment you actually end
up losing that person potentially
forever so here's why most people fail
with affiliate marketing they get
traffic coming to their website and then
all of a sudden without
spending any time to build a
relationship they're getting pitched and
that doesn't feel really good right it
makes your audience feel a little like
this like who are you what are you doing
it's kind of like asking somebody for
their hand in marriage the first day you
meet them you just don't do that unless
you're on a from frozen and you're
asking Hans and then we all know what
trouble she got into I want you to need
disney movies so i apologize for that
you don't want to slip don't want to
pitch slap you're on a slip patches so
what I was gonna say you don't want to
pitch slap your traffic you don't want
to do that you want to go through this
process which I'm about to tell you
again the soft pitch pipeline the first
thing is you have to spend time building
the relationship we're going to talk
about each of these in detail next you
have to choose and select the right
products number three you have to share
your own experience and other people's
experiences with those products too and
number four you have to show proof that
these products will actually help people
and then at the end you can get into the
pitch now there's a certain sequence of
events that needs to happen like I said
and they aren't all created equal what
happens is you spend a lot of time up
front building that relationship and
then by the end your pitch is hardly a
pitch at all
so we're gonna go into this and this is
how you feed your traffic through your
website to get the maximum results from
your affiliate marketing efforts so
we're gonna start the beginning we're
gonna talk about the relationships that
you build with your audience and like I
said we're gonna breeze through this
because the these concepts are quite
simple but they're very powerful so
number one you need a focus on building
not products see that's what too many
people do they go into products too fast
and they don't even spend time to build
a relationship with their audience it's
the most important thing like I said so
how do you build a relationship with
your audience well first and most
importantly you got to understand what
they're going through you got to treat
them like a friend and if a friend is
going through problems you want to
understand more about what they're going
through you don't just offer a solution
to a friend without actually knowing
what it is that they're going through so
really understand who your audience is
what they're going through what their
pains problems needs and wants are and
the number one way to do that is just to
literally have conversations with your
audience this is an exercise that I
often give people in my audiences
actually have phone conversations or
Skype conversations with people in your
audience
you can actually focus and listen in
their own words what they're going
through now yes you're only talking to
one person at a time when you do that
but when you do that you understand your
audience in whole your under you have to
understand who they are what their
habits are what their objections are to
actually moving forward then learning
their language and then finally what
their excuses are WH o le learn about
your whole audience and then by then
you'll be able to understand better what
products you can recommend to them now
this is where most people fail they
recommend products because of the
Commission's that they can earn not
because of actually how helpful there
are they are there are products out
there that that are helpful to your
audience that other people have created
and those are what you should be
recommending but they have to be helpful
and help contribute to your audience's
goal the thing is there might be
products out there that don't even have
an affiliate Commission there might be
products that you create on your own
there might be products that other
people create it doesn't matter what
matters is the goals of your audience
and that's where you want to start and
then you can focus on what these
products are now the number one tip I
have for you with choosing the products
to promote your audience is choose the
products that you already have
experience with because you know and you
can trust those products to actually
help your audience to and the more you
share your own experience with these
products the more likely somebody you
did somebody is to purchase and actually
follow through because they've seen you
do it first people love to see what
they're gonna get before they get it and
if they see you and the results that
you've gotten it's gonna be it's gonna
work out much better for you that's why
I do a lot of videos I do a lot of
walkthroughs with different products
that I have and just show people what
it's like on the inside and you want to
be honest with it - it's not just a
completely positive review sometimes
it's hey you got to watch out for this
stuff in this product and when you come
in as their trusted advisor in that way
for that specific product it's gonna
make it much easier for them to actually
come to you and actually purchase that
product you're actually providing value
along the way and as a result in
exchange they're gonna go through your
affiliate links we'll talk more about
strategies at the moment at which you
pitch but we're good we'll get there in
a second number four show proof you need
to show proof of this concept that you
are sharing are these products that
you're sharing and there's a really you
know the the
the more tangible that proof the better
you can't just say that this works you
have to show that this works this goes
along with experience too but even
further I mean there's a documentary out
there I remember called fat sick and
nearly dead I don't know if you've seen
this but this is a documentary about a
guy who was really overweight going
through a lot of problems in his life
had a lot of skin diseases and all this
stuff and he attributed it to the diet
that he was that the food that he was
eating or the diet that he had and he
documented his journey of juicing so he
was juicing for 60 or 90 90 days
straight just all he was consuming was
juice and you just literally saw the
transformation that he was going through
by the end of it he was completely
healthy he was off his medication
no more skin rashes and he was happy and
healthy and very thin and actually
looked pretty darn good compared to what
he looked like before and by the end of
that film because that proof was there I
was on amazon.com and I had bought a
Breville juicer because of what I had
just seen so it was the proof that
really really did it for me and you know
I was kind of on the fence but showing
that proof at the end is what is gonna
really help people move on to the buying
side and then finally after all that you
have your pitch and again like I said if
you do all these things properly
beforehand it doesn't seem like a pitch
at all but there are some things you can
do to maximize the amount of people who
actually click on your affiliate links
and then progress through into the sale
which will earn you the Commission whew
whew those things are one just being
open and honest about the fact that you
can earn a commission from these
products if you live in the u.s. that's
something you have to do anyway because
of FDA regulations but it's good to do
anyway because people will want to pay
you back for the value that you're
providing them and if you share hey if
you go through this link I do get a
commission at no extra cost to you
they're gonna be likely to want to do
that I remember when I first started
doing internet marketing and buying
products online I would hear about
somebody talking about a product and
then I would just go off and open up a
new browser to go to that product I
didn't know there was this thing called
affiliate marketing but if I knew I'd
want to help that person out because
they've helped me out and helped me
discover this product that could
potentially help me so make sure you
call out when it's an affiliate link and
just be open and honest with that it's
always the best policy secondly you can
also offer support this is something
that a lot of people don't do with their
affiliate products now if
you were selling your own product you
would obviously offer support and like I
said you would show the insides and what
this product is all about that's
probably the best tip I can give you
treat these products as if they were
your own and one way to do that is
actually offer support
I offer support for the products that I
promote because I know them that well
and that helps people feel better about
their purchase now do people ask me for
support not really but that mindset
shift there when they see that I am
actually offering service for it or just
help or answering to any questions that
people might have it really makes a big
difference okay to finish off again your
you're building relationships you're
offering products that matter to your
audience you're sharing your experience
you're showing proof and then the pitch
just becomes that natural conclusion so
you want to make sure that as you are
building your brand you are welding
these things together and affiliate
marketing is okay and it's actually a
great way to generate an income online
if you do it properly and don't just go
straight to the pitch but spend time
actually welding these parts of the
pipeline together so that it actually
becomes a win for everybody so that's my
