all right it's Doug Huntington here from

the CH site project and I have Dave

who's it looks like he's enjoying some

carrots right now fresh out of the

garden oh really yeah

you got a got really are they out of

your day it is actually that's cool

little garden plot nearby nice well I

thanks for joining me Dave of course you

were featured on an insight project for

a success story I think it was like

earlier this year but it was only like

six or eight months ago and at that

point you were making like I think what

was I like a thousand or 1500 per month

or so over the retail season is that

right around there yeah okay so now it's

like mid summer 2016 where are you at

today well things are looking promising

I guess like it's been going up every

month which kind of freaks me out so I'm

waiting for it to dive down but like

it's sort of it's up it like I mean last

month I made well like 40 41 or 42

hundred American so that's like 5300

Canadian so I just consider it 4,200 I

guess yeah that is quite amazing

congratulations on that very very cool

and I guess I mean that's a significant

amount more than you know you were

making back in December and January is

that a significant amount for you like

personally yeah alright yeah this is

significant significant a meal for most

people I mean yeah like I'm like I'm

used to having like no money so it's

it's pretty significant yeah cool very

cool and like I kind of want to do a

little bit of a recap in case you know

people are just learning about you the

first for the first time while I can't

watch the other video like when you

first started you know with niche sites

and stuff like how long ago was it like

did you like instantly get it or how did

that go so it's been like two and a half

years maybe

okay and I you know I didn't it's like

I'm not my background is not business or

marketing or anything like that so I

didn't get it although I was interesting

I just thought it was really interesting

so I grew up using computers you know

I'm a fairly big geek or whatever

thought that I like understood how the

internet work things like that and then

when I kind of ran into this I was like

wait a minute what is this like this is

not something I'm used to so I had to

like sort of investigate it the way that

I had you know do so that meant to sort

of like obsessively reading stuff and

trying to get it the thing is I'm not

like a real like I mean takes me a while

to pick up things I guess like that I'm

not used to so sure my you know I once I

get the hang of something I feel like I

really get the hang of it but until I

get to that point I like don't get it

you know I'm just like what are you

talking about right so that's how it was

for like the first year is just like I

don't get this what is happening what is

this so yeah but I still was trying

right I had some sites that I developed

and things like that and they were just

not going too well but I didn't really

know anyway I didn't really understand

how to like check to see if they were

doing well I just assumed well I assumed

a lot of things I finally got you know

figured out some analytics type

something like this does it's not doing

too well you know like sure and then

just a fast-forward after you know you

you didn't get it right away so that's

promising for other people that don't

right away in fact I don't know anyone

that started their site and then all of

a sudden like got it most people have

like one to three sites that they like

basically make no money or break even on

at best case and then they may be able

to like fix those sites later but

typically it takes a little bit of

learning because there's so many new

pieces or it's like the keyword research

and then competition and then like

actually creating the site like I never

touched WordPress until I started like

messing with niche sites so there's like

so

any different areas to learn it's really

overwhelming

so yeah sure okay so then I think it was

like early 2015 you and I started

working together I we had maybe like

four or six coaching sessions is that

right yeah okay and then I think I have

to get on the right track there and I

think you had some other inputs too

right did you do an internship for

knowhat digital also yeah it was part of

an internship I what like last summer

okay so I did that was that helpful or

not helpful it was like I mean my

experience was kind of like I didn't

last through the internship but I felt

like it was kind of like I mean it was

valuable in a certain sense like I mean

like you get this video package of like

you know however many videos to watch so

that's all set up for you see watch that

you know you learned some like I felt

that it wasn't too uh like I was in this

escape group with a bunch of other

people and like the guy who was running

our session and it was just kind of dead

and it was kind of like disheartening I

guess because I would be in there

blathering away to trying to like you

know get people to talk and stuff and

nobody was saying anything and the guy

who ran the thing was not saying

anything and he'd occasionally chime in

with some kind of like comment out of

nowhere being like okay well this is due

today so like I mean you know make sure

you submit your whatever and I'd be like

I didn't talk like it didn't you know it

didn't make sense to me I guess it

wasn't very uh just somehow it didn't it

didn't quite click with me so I

eventually just was like I'm bailing on

this like gotcha

it's nice to go through with it so it's

just you know I took what I could from

it anyway got it okay I didn't think you

were gonna answer that I have heard the

internship was like really good and

stuff and I think people were in it that

I talked to you like a year or so before

you so anyway we could move on from now

to didn't mean to bring that up those

guys seem like nice guys overall yeah

so sorry the internship didn't work out

I didn't want to take all the credit for

my awesome coaching but I guess that is

pretty much it

as well because I was like not on the

wrong track and then I you know like you

kind of like shifted my view a little

bit I'm like oh okay okay you know that

kinda like it's like this doesn't

matter this stuff does focus on that and

then I think I mean from from that those

six sessions right we got you making

some money by mid-summer roughly one

year ago then retail season you have

like the one to one k-8 at 1500 and then

like now you're you know on track I mean

you're making essentially what sounds to

be like a full-time income for yourself

right yeah and you're expanding out so

now you're developing a bit of a

portfolio of sites you know how many do

you have right now and it sounds like

from our other conversation you're sort

of a Content machine so can you talk a

little about that too

yeah so like I've got about five sites

that I work on actively and then there's

a few other sites in the background that

are kind of like on the on the fringes

you know come up coming up coming on

from the outside like some of them I

think might actually you know take off

like but right now just the five that

I've sort of considered to be active I

guess because they're actively making me

money

sure and so yeah there's a lot of

content flying around a lot of people

I've hired a lot of writers that are

working on the content and so yeah it's

just like I get a lot of content and I

put it up and then I just sort of like

do a little bit of promotion and kind of

go like that

do I do a lot of like you know I kind of

spend time looking at keywords and

niches and like digging around in google

analytics and search console and SEM

rush is like a favorite thing of mine

which I like it took me a while to kind

of get into the swing of that but once I

got used to that I was like I love this

SEM rush thing you know like it was very

helpful like you can learn a lot from

get a lot of insight from that cool very

cool

and I guess I mean is there any sort of

tips or anything that you can give

people that are just starting out maybe

they are like one year behind you right

so maybe they're only making fifty or a

hundred bucks

like any tips or anything or any words

of encouragement well I mean the main

thing I can say is that like yeah like a

year ago I was making like fifty bucks a

month and now I'm making a lot more than

that right so it's like a year can a

year working at this can really change

everything right so if you were to just

sort of give up after being like oh I

can only make fifty bucks at this like

that's that seems to be like I can't do

any better than this then like I had to

like really push to get to this point

like it was it's a lot it was a lot of

work it's a lot of work right now so

it's like yes don't give up thing I

guess yes like anything in life you know

keep trying yeah does he like I think

the times that I would actually make the

most progress like I'd be working away

it would be like 3:00 a.m. I just beaten

like slaving away and then I'd run into

something I'd be like oh oh yeah and

then I'd like you know that would take

me to the next sort of like thing but if

I wasn't working like that much I

wouldn't see those little things that

would you know eventually come up or

whatever that would get forward so like

all that work would just be like it

wouldn't just be work without any sort

of like progression would be like work

and then progression and work in

progression so the progression part is

crucial like if you're not learning from

like anything that you're doing then

it's like yeah you're just grinding away

you're not gonna get anywhere but if

you're not but if you start looking at

it like oh this is like a progression

thing right you can progress you just

have to like figure out what what

progression even means to you I guess

and I like to give a little example with

like keyword research and brainstorming

because I feel like a lot of people like

understand the concepts of you know

brainstorming in keyword research and

then they're like well I'm not going to

go through the process of you know

rigorously coming up with

20 ideas and then like analyzing each of

the key words you know 10 keywords per

those 20 niches and yep

going through it because they think oh I

understand it I don't need to but it

turns out the struggle and the process

of going through those whatever 400

keywords if my math is right whatever

number as I said going over those 400

keywords like that is the work that must

be done in order to get to the other

side like you have to struggle through

it or else like it's not this worthless

right yeah for sure like you definitely

have to do that that what exactly what

you said with the due diligence and all

that stuff like I know people that are

they'll always say like they'll pop up

on the different like Facebook groups

and they'll be like how do I make money

right now like they're just like I want

and they have no you can tell they have

no patience and they're like you have to

have some patience right you definitely

have to have some patience like I can't

this if you have no patience if you're

just gonna be like like banging on the

table like come on like you just it's

not gonna work like I mean and that's

something that I guess we're talking

about is this like they're sort of like

sifting through all the data and being

like hmm you know like actually you'll

be like oh so you'll have an idea that

you'll think was completely you know

legit and then you put it into

perspective and you'll be like oh well

maybe I won't even do that I'll do this

it's like you're changing your whole

thing around now because you did some

extra work but for you you know right

and I guess like it's sort of like the

shortcut is like the long-planned like

there's no shortcut just do it the long

way it'll be faster if you just do the

long version of it so yeah okay

so sort of last question here again

there's a lot of like information that

people can watch on the video below and

the whole post that you know this will

be this video is posted on but just

personally right how has this new income

changed your life and I know there's

probably a lot of lot of things but if

you could just give like some of the

highlights of like what you can do now

because of the revenue and income that

you're making on Amazon okay this might

be kind of like humorous but I like I

like you know before it was kind of like

I would say what I'm doing and like

people like people are really attached

to the numbers like I've had people come

up to me like you know I'd have some

friends and they'd come up to me and

they'd be like okay yeah but how much

are you actually making and I'd be like

well I'm making like 50 bucks a month

and they'd be like okay great and they'd

let go off and do like they just like

that's that's not cool to them right

like and then and then months later I'd

be like they're like so how much you

makin now and I'm like no like a

thousand I'm like oh and then they're

like how much you making like the same

people would ask me the same question

right and then they're like how much did

you make this month like literally like

I wouldn't even be talking about it

necessarily they would be like I know

you're doing that thing how's it going

and I'd be like do you want to actually

know do you want me to tell you and

they're like yeah of course I'm like oh

like 3,000 this month are like oh like

the looks on their faces just like

priceless you know what I mean like

that's awesome it's like that's you know

a vacation a car payment and a mortgage

payment you know like that's obviously

significant money yeah like I'm it's

like you can eventually be like you know

you're gonna at some point you're gonna

have like a bit of like you want to brag

about it a little bit right like I'm not

trying not to like go on and trying to

brag about it or whatever because it's

no bragging just kind of stupid but like

I mean yeah you know they were busting

your balls for a while so like you

should be able to you know throw back at

him yeah yeah right so it's like at some

point that's pretty cool this to be like

you know like so it's making this much

now like I told you it would and are you

still doing that really shitty factory

job that you hate okay we'll have fun

you know how you didn't believe me and

like you wouldn't listen to me and like

I'm being of a few specific people yeah

okay we're gonna have to mention of my

name

you know who they are you know that

except they might not encounter this

video because they're not like tuned in

these kind of frequencies but you know

what it mean like it's just kind of nice

to to see it actually work and then be

like oh well this month like I reinvest

a lot of it so I'm not the kind of

person that's necessarily like I'm not

great with money but at the same time

I'm not like like oh like I'm just gonna

like blow it all on crap now like I'm

like I want to invest reinvest most of

it into the sites the back and it

because that's how it's that's how it's

blowing up right like in a couple months

I'll be like I'm making this much now

but I also have reinvested this much yes

oh very important cool well Dave thanks

project community now is the time to

mention it okay the pressure yeah I just

like definitely it point is it works

like this sort of the niche thing is a

thing that can work and then once you

start to see it work then you'll just

want to do it more and continue

progressing with it so it's like after

you get over that initial like learning

curve and you can like you're not taking

things as personally like I was you know

I'd be like I think I basically cried

and whined to you a few times being like

what what's happening like when's it

gonna happen like just the like the

typical like you know you know doubts

and stuff like that once you kind of

like get through that and see a couple

like really cool things happen and

you're like oh great you know like I can

I can see this going somewhere now so

it's good to hear people like talk about

how it actually does work that seem like

reasonable people that aren't like kids

like these marketing like guru type

people that are just like yeah you know

like money's nothing to me I just like I

do this in my sleep and like whatever if

you don't understand it that's that's

your problem but like I make I first you

know I don't I'm just gonna rambling now

but like you know yeah I hear you so

overall like it works and you know

people should believe like it starts

slow and it's a very long ramp up it

took it took you about six months to hit

you know 50 or $100 and it took you

another six months to hit roughly a

thousand and then another six you went

up you know

4x so now you're roughly at 4,000 and

probably will check in with you in a few

more months and I expect to hear the

same kind of growth so I hope so I mean

I would be super awesome but yeah just I

guess the thing to without rambling on a

whole lot more but just like if you can

make that like initial money in the

first like six months or something if

you can see that initial thing then like

I'm just truth that you can make that

you know the next six months you can

actually bump it up to like a thousand

if that's what you feel like doing right

so that's that's pretty encouraging I'd

say if you can like just just to see

like 50 bucks within like 6 months if

you can actually make that then you know

there's a probably good chance you can

make like a thousand within a year so

it's like that in-between time up to six

months and the year it's like it's only

six months it's like you know yeah so

like make a lot more money yeah and it's

you know none of it's easy right and

none of it's sort of like gonna happen

by itself but you work at it anyone can

do it Dave can do it I can get it I

could do it yes we could do it so great

all right Dave well have a good rest of
