Facebook Ads Tutorial: From Beginner To Pro with Zero Experience


Hey, so if you have a Shopify store, maybe you got an e-commerce store
Maybe you have a new website and you're looking for traffic to your website
You want to get people to come there and buy your products?
Well, I'm going to show you in this video a Facebook tutorial ad set up
So if you're a beginner if you're a pro whatever level you're at
It doesn't really matter because what I'm gonna do is I'm walk you through exactly how to get things up and running
with Facebook Ads Facebook is one of the best ways to generate targeted traffic to
Any of your websites to your ecommerce store your Shopify store any of those stores or even your own websites affiliate websites any of that?
Facebook is super targeted and you can just narrow down to exactly the right people that you want to
Join to your website
so for me Facebook has been one of those things that I just love buying traffic from them because I can just
Zero in on them. I can zero in on specifically who I want to target women men
Certain age groups. What do they like what they don't like
Okay
and I can just go right into that and I get
Right into those people and those are people that actually are going to my websites. They're buying my stuff
They're going straight to my my ecommerce store my Shopify stores and they're buying my products because I get super targeted with it
So the thing you want to do at first is a lot of people and I see this mistake a lot
Is that people use their Facebook personal account for?
running ads if you're doing that what I suggest you doing is get out of that because Facebook doesn't like personal accounts using
the Facebook
You know the Facebook ad a council
What you want to do is you want to go to Google and just type in business
Manager Facebook business manager and you'll see its business at facebook.com/
You're going to click on that you're going to go and you're going to sign up for an a business account
It doesn't matter if you have a business, you don't need to have incorporated or LLC. Just use your name as your business
Okay, so that would be setting up your account
Just use your name as your you know, just whatever you want to put you can put your name
And you know your name business whatever you want to put but don't worry about like try to incorporate all that stuff
You don't need that. So you're gonna get you're gonna set up with the business manager right here, and then you're going to
Get signed up now. Once you get into the account, there's a couple things that I want you to
Set up first before you jump into
There's a few things you want to kind of get in place
That way you can you know have a good account set up and that that way things are right now
The reason I'm going to show you how to set up some ads now
What's going to happen is is if you're brand new to Facebook
You're gonna go in you're gonna probably run some ads that Facebook doesn't like, okay
You're gonna probably go against their Terms and believe me they all
Everybody that does Facebook ads we all have to learn how to do
through the ads the right way and and the way we learn is just by running ads and then letting them get
Disabled from Facebook. Now a lot of times what they'll do is they'll just completely shut down your ads account
so what I recommend you doing this is
Facebook lets you run a bunch of different
ads accounts like you can do like five six ad accounts and
I suggest you doing this because if you get one shutdown, all you got to do is you start up another one
So you come in here to business settings?
So inside of here you're going to go all the way over to business settings and it says add accounts
So you click on add accounts and right here it says, you know add accounts
This is add an add account right here. You can request to
To do, you know get into other accounts?
But click on add an add account right here and what I suggest you're doing is clicking on two or three
Maybe maybe four or maybe even five different add accounts and you can just call them whatever you want
You can call them different things. Just call them Add Account one at account two at account three
Okay
because what's gonna happen is you're gonna connect a
credit card to that add account have your start running ads and you do something dumb like like
You know run an ad like, you know how to make a million dollars in the next two days
Facebook is gonna look at that and they're probably gonna delete your ad account
So you're gonna you're gonna look at those ads and go. Oh I shouldn't run those, you know
Crazy making money their ads like that or how to lose 25 pounds in the next 30 seconds
Okay, so you're gonna run ads like that and and Facebook's gonna shut you down
No worries, grab another ad account Greta put up a new credit card to that and then start your fresh account again, okay
Sometimes you have to just learn how to do this
You know, I've had plenty of add accounts shut down just because I ran wrong at the wrong ad since I figured it out
So what happened was I just now I can run it's no problems because I know exactly what Facebook
Likes and what they don't like and definitely what they don't like is big bold claims
You can't say make a million dollars in two days. You can't say lose 40 pounds in the next
24 hours. You just can't make bold claims like that
Facebook won't light won't let you run the ads and then most likely will shut down your ad account
but if you have four or five ad accounts going
Then you can learn from that and then you can not do it again on your next ad account setup
Okay. So from here what you want to do is
You want to go over here to?
Under Events Manager you want to go to pixels?
Okay, so inside of pixels what this is is that it's a simple piece of code that you're going to place on your website and
The reason why you do this is because this gives Facebook data on all the all your users that come to your website
You're going to need this for conversion tracking
so when somebody comes to your website and they buy a product you need to link it to one of the ads and
Also what it's going to do. It's going to allow you to create some audiences
So what you want to do is you just come in here and you get your each account that you set up will have its
Own pixel. So if I come in here to let's go to details here and
Then let's go to up here in the right-hand corner says install pixel
So it says manually install the pixel code
Okay. So all you have to do is just copy this code in here
So you click on this it's copied to your clipboard
This is the code that you want to put to your website Shopify with a lot of these
Website they like that. They have a place in the settings to place this code
All right
And then like wordpress reviews more press there's also pixels or there's plugins to use with WordPress to place this code in there
Once that code is in there, then it's going to give data to Facebook about all the people that come to your website
Okay, you need this pixel? It's it's a must if you're gonna run ads you have to have this pixel on there
It's just you just can't you just it's dumb not to run it and if you're running conversion ads you're gonna spend
Tons of money and Facebook is not gonna be able to to give you the right traffic
All right. So just grab this pixel code put it into your website is real simple
If you don't know how to do it just look in the settings a lot of these like Shopify has in the settings
Install the code. Alright, so from here what we want to do is this is you want to come over here to
Let's go to you
Where's my peers, oh audiences, let's go to audience
Once the code is on your site, then you're going to start to build an audience
You want to build up that audience of people coming to your website? So come in here, and we're going to click on custom audience
I'm going to click on website traffic
So what you want to do is set up here it says
All website traffic in the past 30 days. You can do 90 days. You can do 180 days
It's totally up to you. It doesn't really matter. I mean I've tried seven days. I've tried thirty days
I just put it like 180 days usually
Right. I'm just gonna do like that if you really want to get serious about it
I mean you can put like seven days and just run ads to the last seven days
but when you're first getting started you wanted you to build up everybody into this custom audience because
Everybody that's in your custom audience
You can create a look-alike audience, which Facebook will go and actually expand your your audience even further
it's then you'll just click on all website traffic and
Then you click on the name. You can just say all website traffic and the create it ok
So once you do that, then all the traffic that comes to your website is going to be
Create an audience is going to be created
Alright so next thing you want to do is you want to go to custom conversions like right here custom conversions
with custom conversions
This is where you will
When somebody buys your product they do something
sign up for webinar if they
You know if they jump onto your landing page and they put your email in all of this so create custom conversion over here
so then what we'll do is
Is you can say?
URL contains this so what the URL contains is going to be
Lets say the Thank You page. So if somebody buys a product and then the Thank You page shows up
That's the URL that you put there. That's the conversion. That means somebody bought your product
They've landed on your Thank You page if you have a Thank You page after somebody opts into your form
Let's say you're giving away a free
Downloading product this the download page would be the link right here
Okay, so it's the it's the page after somebody does something on to your website you put that there and then so your name?
Right here, and then you select the category so you can see right here. This is
added to cart
completed registration like a registration to a webinar
Put in their contact info I use the lead one a lot
So somebody puts in an email I get the lead right there. You can see purchase you can see

There's submit application subscription all of this good stuff right here. So this what it is is this is going to tell Facebook
Okay, this is what somebody's doing
After they have, you know gone your website and they put in their name and email or they purchased a product
Now you're going to need the conversion pixel when you run your ads
So if you run ads you're going to need this
This exact thing so you want to remember what it is when you're running your ads
Alright, let's cancel. Now. What we're gonna do is we're going to go to
The we're going to go straight into the ads manager and I'll show you what you want to do
so you go to the ads manager and
There's going to be three parts of this. You got two campaigns you got ad sets and then you got the ads
So the first thing you want to do is just we're going to create our first campaign. So you create a campaign here
Okay campaign name so let's just say for instance you're gonna be selling a health and wellness product
Okay, let's say it's gonna be a supplement product. You're gonna be selling
Where it's let's just say it's gonna be up making it workout program
Like if you're gonna sell like a seven-day workout training program, so let's call it seven-day
Workout
Program. Okay. So maybe you're gonna sell a you know, high-end program on the back end
I'm just giving an example of like if you're in the health of fitness
This would be a good thing to sell if you're into you know
If you have a Shopify store and you're selling certain type of e-commerce, this is what you want to you know
Set up some type of program that you're selling
Okay, so it's gonna be different for for you and whatever your product is
And then what I like to do is I like to put I like to put Co NV for conversions
So as a campaign type or object, I like to do conversions. I
Always like to do conversions cuz conversions to me is is the best type of lead
Okay
And you to our Facebook has so much data on people that what they're gonna do is they're gonna show you
they're gonna show your ads to people that converted before so if somebody has bought a product before
Facebook is actually going to show your ad to those people again, which is you know
That's that's like buyers traffic you want buyers traffic. So if you're selling something you want buyers traffic, so go with conversions
Let's call this

Magazines you'll see what I'm gonna do here in a little bit. Let's just call it health mags ad set. Well, this will be workout

Okay, so now we're inside of the the
the
campaign here
All right
So you got the campaign you have to add set and then you have the actual ad in the ad in the the ad set
Right here
So what I'll do is I'm going to click over here on this health mag. This is gonna be the actual ad set
This is kind of the targeting of the ad, so you're gonna have your website right here
You want to make sure you put your conversion pixel in there?
If you haven't had a convert if it's if it's not green yet. It might be there might not be any activity yet
so you may want to go in in and do a test buy or a test lead into your
Landing page or your bought your opt-in form
That way you can kind of trigger the pixel and then it'll show up green here and you can use that
Okay, so then you daily budget? I like to start off with just
$5 a day
$5 a day, it's gonna give me some testing it's gonna give me some some data and then I can expand from that
custom audiences if you wanted to run ads strictly to your
All your traffic you can but when you're first getting started you may not have any traffic you may not have a custom audience
so the thing is you want to start with this you want to figure out this is you want to go to
Detailed targeting right here now in detail targeting you're just gonna start picking up different
Magazines that people are going to be working out now. I know my demographics for health and related products is usually going to be
For for men it's usually going to be between ages of
25 and 34 that's gonna be my biggest demographics
Okay, so 25 and 34 that's how I would choose it now you might have to test this out
You may have to try different tribe men women depending on what is that you're trying to sell?
So what I'm going to do is let's just say some of the health magazines would be like health
mag
so you got
Let's say Health magazine, let's do bodybuilding
So body million calm I'm gonna click on that one
so right here we have potential reach of
5200 people
For bodybuilding.com this bodybuilding.com is all about working out and an obviously body building
It's getting it mostly it's going to be men
between the ages of 25 and 34 so I'm gonna target just that group of
People right there. Okay, so I'm just gonna leave like that
Now you can do suggestions so you can you can see suggestions that Facebook will pop up
They'll say GNC store, which is the supplement store. There's a weight training. There's body building men's fitness
Natural body ability and physique fitness. There's a ton of different suggestions that you could target now, I know
specifically people that are going to bodybuilding.com
Is they're specifically looking for?
Bodybuilding type of products. Okay. So if I'm if I have a Shopify store that's got supplements to it or workout programs
Geared towards men this is gonna be my target audience
Okay, so you've got to figure out what is it? Your target audience is going to be for your product
Now I like to come out here. I'll do edit placements. I'll leave it as
Mobile and desktop I could just do both because it's pretty much I don't know
It's like 50/50, but I think it's more mobile now. So if you have make sure your website is
Definitely mobile-friendly. If it's not then you just want to use desktop, but I uncheck all of these right here
I don't have any of these going

So what
Okay, so I just leave the feeds anything. It's in the feed. That's that's exactly where I want my ad
I don't want it anywhere else
The Facebook offers to do it Instagram. You could do that some other time I separate. Yeah, I would separate Instagram from Facebook
I wouldn't do them at the same time
Okay. So then what I like to do is come down here to conversions window and I like to do one day click
Okay, so now I have my targeting so potential reach is six thousand or six hundred and sixty thousand now it since I edited my
Placement I got a lot of people that got bumped out
So what I'm gonna do is I'm gonna come back here to suggestions and I'm gonna do like GNC store
So a lot of people that go to bodybuilding they also go to GNC store
Let's see down here
Jay Cutler bodybuilding. So guys that are looking for bodybuilding Jay Cutler is gonna be the guy
Dwayne Johnson the rock. He's another big bodybuilder
People are gonna be liking him you can see he's got a big following so it's bumped it up to
3.3 million people that that I'm gonna be targeting
Alright, so now you have your ad set set up
you have your pixel code set up you got your budget set up you got the
You know the you gotta Knight United States here you got the age 25 to 34. You got men
Let me I'm gonna put English in here also, so English
okay, and then you got your detail targeting right here all this is done and
Then you have your placements
so this is gonna be on mobile devices and desktop devices and it's only going to be in the newsfeed and
Then you got one day clicks. Boom. Everything looks good. Alright
So now workout photos. I'm gonna or workout. This is gonna be the actual ad now
I'm going to just for the sake of this video. I'm just going to kind of go through this really quick for you
but I want you to take the time to
Make this work for you, but I'm going to show you a
I'm gonna show you just a simple template that you can use in order to make this work for you
Alright, so what I'm going to do is when I create the ad I'm going to do image right here
So I'm gonna select an image
Now I'm gonna go over here to you. See us. We're a stock or here. I'm just going to use this stock right now
So I'm going to type in body

so these are stock images that Facebook will let you use and
You got to test this out to make sure it works for you. So let's I'll just come in here and

Okay, so it's it's kind of set you got the pixel around here so the pixel is going to fire everything's good
Now what you want to do is come back up here to this text. So the text above the photo
Here's here's what I recommend you doing and this is goes back to simple marketing. You got the hook
You got the story and then you got a call to action
It's just a it's just a simple formula to use any time you run your ad. So your hook is
And you want to kind of call out with a question
I like to use hooks as a questions, but I want to make sure that I'm not
I'm not really calling out anybody's by individuals. You never want to say hey, you know 20 year old males
You know, are you struggling? Okay, you never want to say anything like that you wanted to say
Something like how
How is your?
Body building, I don't know coming along. That kind of sucks. How is your body building?
working out
Working out. Okay. So here's a question. How's your body building working out? So I'm somebody school into their newsfeed
They're gonna see the picture and they're going to see that question
So you want to make sure that question is something that people think and they stop for just a split second go
Well my body building I guess is working out. Okay?
so then what you want to do is you want to go into the story of your products or
Your story of what's worked for you so you can you can say that
you know, I
used to be
I used to be uncut in
Full of
Body fat
I was not happy with my workouts
But I
See here, but I found a mentor who can
Get
my body
Looking great. Okay, so it's just a really quick story. You want to maybe expand on this?
What I recommend you doing is you talk about your struggles for a little bit
Don't go don't go too in depth with it because member of Facebook is they don't want you to to you know
Even if you talk about your own story
they don't they're gonna look at that thinking that it's your you know that you're like
Having you're telling people that you're losing a ton of weight
You can't really say losing weight and all that. You got to kind of stay above that
You got to kind of keep out of the the you know, I lost 20 pounds in the last 20 days
It's it's gonna trigger the Facebook, you know ads and they're gonna say it's it's not working
So you want to you got to get around and you got to test these out a little bit until you you find the right?
Solution but you want to say you want to talk about your struggles?
You know talk about whatever it is your product that you're trying to promote and you can you know
You can talk about certain things and your products that you have that maybe you used before and it doesn't work for you
already tried this product and tried that but then you found somebody that helped you out and then
When they helped you out you started to use this product over here and it started to work great

Okay, so in the ad you can have your link down here you're going to talk about your struggles
you're going to talk about what the product did for you and how it
Helped you and then you're gonna talk about a mentor. Maybe you're somebody that helped you out
Or maybe you know, how do you went from struggling to using the product - now it's working great for you
But just remember don't say like, you know, I was 400 pounds and I and I'm down to you know
80 pounds right now because of this great workout program just Facebook
it's gonna trigger that they're gonna think it's it's it's - you know, it's just it's not gonna work and
They're going to just you know, kill your ad. All right, so just make sure you don't do any claims like that
So you do the link and that's it
And then all you have to do so you have your your ad right here leave your link right here. This is the picture
These spots will go away because you're it's a stock photo so, you know
Once this ad runs all these stock stuff will go away out of the picture. You have learned more
Headline you got your your store there you hit publish boom. There. It is. Now your ad is running now
You have to sit back and you got to wait for them to review it
Okay
So as long as you don't have any claims long as you haven't said, you know
You're gonna you haven't called somebody out or you haven't you know?
You just just tell your story about your product and what it's done for you
But just don't go overboard and be a be crazy with the claims on it

but you're still gonna have to test things out and you're not really sure what Facebook is gonna allow and
When you're first getting started you may have to go through you may get a couple of add accounts disk disabled
That's okay because remember you're gonna create four or five of those and it's gonna work for you
So then you just hit publish your ad is running and you're good to go
all right, and just sit back wait for them review it and then
you just
Things will be good from there. All right. Now, all you got to do is just go there and take action
hopefully this this is gonna take you from the pro levels to the
Professional levels and remember don't worry about making mistakes. You don't have to be perfect
It's not going nobody's gonna be perfect all the time. But if you just follow this plan and you just continue to
Figure out new ads you're going to find that little sweet spot for you and your products and your services. Alright?
