okay cool guys so we'll get started
you're just under 30 seconds we got a
lot of cool stuff free day again
mastermind groups are really really
important because how many mastermind
groups are you in so currently I'm not
I'm not in any groups but I I just
removed myself from one about a month or
so ago talk about when it's time to
maybe exit yeah that's really important
actually for what reasons as well but ya
know basically I think all in all I
think I've been a member of at least
four or five in the last few years yeah
but currently not an F you're
overachieving right now I'm in three
different mastermind groups and we'll
get into why mastermind groups are
important and how to find members for
yourself and also the group dynamic and
all those special things I mean it's
really important for mastermind groups
to be structured I've been in groups
before where they're not structured and
they've all completely failed I mean
it's really important for that to happen
again feel free to interrupt me Chris if
certain questions come up but again
we'll address as many questions as we
can at the end of this so we'll go
through the presentation again this is a
revisit to the presentation I did at
social media marketing world and again
just happy to do this for you guys this
is a very important topic that's very
very important to me in particular
because I wouldn't be where I'm at today
you know we always say that nobody's got
a monopoly on good ideas right so this
is one of the reasons why you should be
surrounding yourself with particularly
moreso a business because you know some
of the best ideas I've had have come
from other people my business person
yeah
same with me yeah I mean we can really
easily get lost in our own work and
forget what it's like from the outside
and to get that brutally honest advice I
mean so important so why don't we get
started here the first thing I want to
find out from all of you is sort of
which one of these are you so are you
currently in a mastermind group and just
put the number in the questions box for
which one of these three things you are
associated with so one I am currently in
a mastermind group at least one - I am
NOT in a mastermind group but I am
looking to get into one soon and three I
have no idea what a mastermind group is
which is okay I mean it is
kind of a mystery when if you don't know
what it is you know and everybody talks
about it it's this thing yeah so where
we at with the numbers pretty we're
pretty tied up right now we've got a few
handful of threes coming through now so
we're obviously I would say I'd say so
pretty even split so 30% that's good you
know no matter where you're at you're
gonna get a lot of value from this so if
you are in a mastermind group already
you can take this information back to
your group with you and then kind of
optimize your experience with that and
share this with the rest of the group if
you are looking to get into one great
and you'll find out how to get into one
and also how to maximize that experience
again if you don't know what it is we're
gonna tell you what it's all about a
little bit about some history and all
that stuff so it would be pretty cool so
here's what we're gonna cover today
first we're gonna cover what is a
mastermind group and even if you are in
a group already it's really important to
understand really the purpose behind it
and also the true benefits of being in a
mastermind group we're also gonna talk
about the logistics and the structure of
a mastermind group like I said was
really important how to find and start
your own and then we're gonna grow over
ten specific tips to achieve massive
results and I cannot stress enough just
how important mastermind groups have
been to my success I mean I would not be
where I'm at today if it wasn't for the
groups and if you ask any successful
entrepreneur and they are honest with
you some aren't honest you will find out
that all of them had some sort of
alliance or a mastermind group or other
people in their lives that have helped
them get to where they're at today and
like I said I'm in three different
mastermind groups right now just to give
you an idea of how important mastermind
groups are to me let me let me reign
certain people in my life against each
other so just to give you an idea so at
the top of course it's my family my
family first always I know Chris here
the same way yeah so family first and
then it's my mastermind groups it might
sound kind of weird like family and
mastermind groups and then it's my best
friends so family mastermind groups best
friends in terms of priority because
they've just had such a big impact in my
life and then you of course under that
you get like your good friends and your
high school friends and professional
friends and co-workers and then like
that person you sort of know but you
don't know their name and when you see
them you're like eh but anyway that's
the worst to me all the time crash is so
good to see you again yeah
a man forget their name you know a my
trick for getting over that is is to
introduce that person to somebody else
oh that's great
and they and should end up introducing
themselves to each other and then you
get the name so fun fun tip for you guys
there now in order to make mastering
groups work for you this is where you
have to place them in terms of proper
this is also where I've placed them
because I've just experienced the kind
of impact that they've had you know when
I've started participating in these
groups not just in my business - but in
all areas of my life which is why it's
up there and I hope this shows you how
serious I take this and if you're not in
a mastermind group yet if you're in one
of the number twos or threes you need to
be in a mastermind group and if you're
already in a group great but are you
utilizing it to the best of your ability
probably not so like I said we're gonna
cover all of these things today
now back quick story 2008 you all know I
got laid off and in 2008 I felt kind of
like this guy here that guy I'm a little
uncomfortable
yeah kind of almost falling off the
cliff because I had nothing else really
going you know I I had spent all this
time going to school for architecture
and that sort of thing and there were
three groups of people in my life that
helped me stay from falling that kept me
from falling off this cliff because you
know it's it's weird we go through life
and all of a sudden you can just easily
slip and fall and these three groups of
people kept me from falling for first it
was my family there's a cool picture of
my wife my daughter on top of my wife
and my son just being crazy like he
always is up there you know him I mean
he's in the other room right now being
crazy with my crazy yeah so that's my
feet only and then my mom my dad and
you've met my mom my dad before and
they're really cool they've allowed me
to when I got laid off they allowed me
to move back home with them which was
really cool they always kept supporting
me and just believed in me not was
really important but then the third
group were these two guys Jeremy
Frandsen and Jason van Norden from
internet business mastery now I found
these people online actually through a
podcast internet business mastery I
later met with them in person and
eventually these people who had never
met before became some of my best
friends and colleagues people who
throughout the years have helped to
guide me hold me accountable give me
advice and resources and all of those
groups
and all of those groups that are inside
their little Academy were really really
helpful because you know over time I
started to get to know some of those
people in their little forum and then
some of those people like I met with
continually and constantly every week we
would get on calls and I didn't even
know it but I was actually forming a
mastermind group this thing called a
mastermind group and you know if you
want to talk about the definition of a
mastermind group I mean the person that
comes to mind is Napoleon Hill in his
book Think and Grow Rich and he talks
about mastermind groups a lot in several
different books but this is my favorite
definition of mastermind group he says
it's a friendly alliance with one or
more persons who will encourage one to
follow through with both plan and
purpose and I've highlighted a few words
here Alliance and I like that because
you know it almost makes it seem like
you're at war sure we are at war with
business and competition and all that
other stuff and when you can get
together and form an alliance you are
more likely to conquer whatever it is
you're trying to conquer there's also
the planning part of it and you're not
just kind of getting together and kind
of just bubbling around you're actually
creating plans and trying to figure out
how to do things and also with a purpose
there's some bigger purpose behind it
and I I love that it's it's this
coordination of knowledge and effort
together like I don't know if you've
ever heard of you are the average of the
five people you spend most your time
with have you heard that before sure I
have absolutely and I believe that to be
absolutely true Jim Jim Rohn said that
and putting yourself in a mastermind
setting will put you in a position to
increase that overall average of who you
are because of the people you've
surrounded yourself with those
like-minded people all in one space all
focused on a single objective when that
happens amazing things can absolutely
happen if you've tried to go to the gym
you know what I'm talking about right
like it's hard to do it by yourself I
mean maybe at first after the new year
you're all excited but once you get to
that point where you're just kind of
like mid-march you're like I don't want
to go anymore right that's what most
people quit with somebody else in doing
it with a group of people that's why
CrossFit is really popular and those
types of things it's much easier because
there's other people encouraging you and
you encourage them and you kind of just
help each other out
and that makes brings exactly that
exactly that with the whole gym thing
that you know I look back at the tongues
where you know where I've been up my
fittest physically it's been when I've
had gym partners where I've actually
gone to the gym three four times a week
with the same person week in week out
haven't had one for a while and it's the
little muffin top that's not yeah we'll
put a screenshot of that up later I mean
we're not going to but it's interesting
because some of the most powerful
masterminds come from history that have
made a massive change in this world and
this is really interesting I I loved
talking about this part and this was
something that a lot of people who watch
this presentation that social media
marketing world talked about because it
was really cool so the first example is
King Arthur's knights the round table
right where there is no head of the
table that's why it's around because
there's no kind of person who's in
charge of everybody else this is where
the Knights and the noblemen gathered to
brainstorm how to prevent dispute and
keep things in order at this time this
is like I don't know 12 13th century and
here's what King Arthur had to say about
his round table kind of sort of along
the lines of a mastermind group
he said the greater the bounty we may
give and he's talking about to each
other the greater our nobility Fame and
honor and I think that's really cool and
this kind of I mean just it's so
inspiring to go back old-school on how
this concept continued is this is not
something that's been around for like
ten years
it's been around since people have been
doing stuff together
here's another was Franklin Roosevelt's
brain trust that's what he called his
sort of mastermind group so good during
the Great Depression in the 1930s
Roosevelt created what he called a brain
trust a trusted group of experts that he
connected with who all worked together
so he didn't know everything but he got
together with other people who knew
stuff to create the first policies of
what he called the New Deal in 1933
which helped the economy in the u.s.
Chris cuz you're not from the US you
might not know American history I know
you guys helped us out yeah we I mean
read 1946 yeah but we won't talk about
1700s and on that there's does but you
know he helped the economy get back on
track out of the Great Depression this
is my favorite example Andrew Carnegie
he revolution
the steel industry in the 19th century
he became known as the richest man in
the world at the time in Napoleon Hill
it had interviewed him one time and he
said how did you become so successful
how did you earn so much money this is
exactly what in Jakarta he said he said
we have here in this business a
mastermind it is not my mind it is not
the mind of any other man on my staff
but the sum total of all these minds and
I think that's so cool he even goes on
to say you know each man contributes an
important part to the building of this
mind I do not always agree with all the
men on my staff on all matters nor do
they always agree with me and that's
really important we'll talk more about
that later perhaps some of us do not
like each other from a personal
viewpoint but I know that I need these
men and they know that aiming me in the
maintenance of this mastermind that is
necessary in carrying on this steel
business and fun fact about Andrew
Carnegie that you might not know I mean
he revolutionized the steel industry he
didn't know much about steel when he got
into it but he knew that he had to
connect with the right people to help
him create what he created and then when
he passed away he died and and he was
known as a huge philanthropist I mean
the biggest one of the time when he died
he gave away about 350 million dollars
this back then is equivalent to today's
four point seven six billion dollars and
he attributes a success to the
connections with other people to help
him figure things out and that's really
what this is all about for all of us now
there are some other famous mastermind
groups if you want to say these are
groups that and then no they're not
really famous but here's one of the
groups I'm in like I said I'm in three
formal ones right now not the bearded
person on the left but the person next
to that is mark Mason and Michael
Stelzner from social media examiner
myself Ray Edwards cliff ravenscraft
and Leslie Samuel this is a fantastic
group with me every Wednesday at 8:30
a.m. this is another group that I'm in
this is myself Jaime tardy from eventual
millionaire a lot of you know who she is
Rajat Russell from remarkably human and
Todd Tresidder from financial mentor
calm and then here's one that meets
monthly that I'm in with a number of
people that you might know down there on
the bottom right is John Lee Dumas
there's Caleb logic over there as well
rhythm already and Kate
it's in a number of other people and
this is one I cherish because we meet in
person and again even though we meet in
person it's still very structured and
you've been yeah and is it what I like
about this particular group not only do
you meet in person but I think a lot of
the people are still sort of not they're
not they're not starting a strong term
use but they tend to be there's a lot of
them right at the same level and getting
a lot out of just being around these two
or three other real big players and
that's good I like yeah I like the fact
that it's not all super high level and
that you know there's still some people
in the group that are I mean you kind of
helping them out and that's what it's
all about right but we'll talk more
about kind of the dynamic of a group is
what makes the best and most optimized
group here's another group not
necessarily a group but this is a
wonderful duo that you're listening to
you right now myself and Chris Ducker
and we don't have a formal mastermind
group we don't meet regularly over time
but we do need a lot and talk about
business a lot and you can even have a
mastermind group that's just two people
it's more like an accountability right
right right and we we have become I
think anyway we've become each other's
biggest sounding boards for pretty much
everything in absolutely absolutely
incredibly I highly value our
relationship Chris and we become best
friends
since someone that someone just said on
the screen this is Chris yes that that's
that's me the one with the orange
pockets where we just took these
pictures actually and New Media Expo and
Vance and okay so let's get into you
what a mastermind group is not there's
some misconceptions and myths about mass
rancors and the first thing I want to
say that a mastermind group is not a
cult and it's weird because when people
don't know what a mastermind group is
they suspect that it's something like
that I mean it's just the term itself
masterminds
yeah but it's not a cult it's not
something like religious whatever I mean
but it's it's it's something that is
formalized and that is regular and
that's the important part of it it's
also not a business partnership
necessarily you don't go into a group
looking to JV partners with these people
or share revenue or anything like that
it's beyond that it's not a business
partnership necessarily although
business partnerships
have formed and JB partnerships can form
when you're in a mastermind group of
somebody that's also not a gossip group
and it's important to think about this
because a lot of times when you get
people together who are into the same
stuff you know they start to talk it's
just human nature you start to gossip
and a lot of time can be wasted we've
gotthis I've been in groups before where
we spend the first half hour just saying
man did you see this guy do that or this
can you believe this person to that like
that stuff is not it's not this that's
not what this is about
at all like you can do that with your
buddies down in the bar or the pub or
you know over sky catch up once a week
whatever but mastermind group is not the
general chitchat at all at all it's not
a party either a lot of times it goes
the other way well guys let's just party
welcome like let's hang out and do this
and let's not talk business and I've
been a part of master angers were you
know we we fun into your grapes
especially if you're meeting in person
sometimes didn't want to have fun but
there was a group that wasn't that I was
in that would just play games the whole
time and that's all we would end up
doing and we wouldn't get nothing done
and it was fun but you know no value in
terms of helping my business came out of
that right and then it's also not your
mama it's not your mom it's not it's not
no you don't go to these people to cry
about stuff and to kind of just whine
yes it's important to bring stuff that
you're having issues with into the group
but you want to do it in a professional
manner that helps you get something out
of it not just a sounding board to cry
out right right suck well what a
mastermind group is the group is a
completely formal structured and focused
group it is something that is consistent
and happens on a regular basis you can
put it in your schedule you know when
it's gonna happen that's really
important it's also extremely productive
very encouraging it's an encouraging
environment not necessarily always
positive but always encouraging and the
reason I say that is because you want
brutally honest advice and sometimes
you're and you're gonna get advice that
you might not want to hear but it's
advice you need to hear but it's always
gonna be in an encouraging way to help
people understand okay what's the next
step how can they break through those
problems it's also going to be like I
said brutally honest I keep saying that
but that's really important one of the
biggest benefits
being one of these groups too because
you're not presenting these ideas or
these problems or these issues to your
mom and your best friend who's gonna
tell you what they want to hear or tell
you what you want to hear right they're
gonna sugarcoat everything the people in
your mastermind group are gonna tell you
what you need to hear and it's not
always good but it's gonna be what you
need to hear right right and then
finally it's a place of trust as well
and we'll get more into that as well so
here are some of the things the benefits
that you can expect from becoming a part
of mastermind group its accountability
again you get that accountability you
get to understand what people are up to
and they understand what you're up to to
see and check on your progress over time
they are going to encourage you like I
said earlier they're gonna provide
inspiration because they're gonna share
some stuff that they're doing - that's
gonna encourage you to do more and you
kind of just beam off of each other's
successes and wins like that getting
that outside feedback is really
important because again like I said
earlier you can really be lost in your
own work to get that outside perspective
from somebody is so valuable I mean
that's why I talk to you all the time
because and it might be this like when
you hear it it's the most obvious thing
right you miss it it's like you know
when you read a blog post and you've
done the spellcheck 100 times over then
somebody else finds one yeah and we've
you know we've come to each other on
several occasions with ideas for either
you know just simple things like blog
content you know write the way down to
our you know speaking presentations
we've put together and there have been
several times when I shot down your
ideas and you shot down mine but it
hasn't left it hasn't means left like
that's a bad idea it's that's not such a
great idea and this is what I suggest
yes so and that's kind of that's where
the real power comes from yeah it's the
follow up and then the the you know
admitting and understanding that you can
be wrong sometimes but having other
people help guide you out of that then
there's also the unbiased opinions and
not your mom and your best friend who
wants to just make you feel good these
are gonna make you successful and then
also you'll grow together that's the
cool thing you can all I mean with the
group that I'm in with Janie and
Roderick and Todd we've been together
for four years we've seen incredible
growth across the whole board and it's
just really cool to have been following
them the whole time you mean even you
and I Kris like to know where you came
from even when you were doing the
virtual CEO stuff
to where you're at now and all the
things that I know you have planned that
are incredible and I can't wait for for
them it's just really cool because we've
kind of grown together in that way yeah
so the cool thing about this slide is
it's AEIOU and sometimes actually always
why I always have to point that out
I had a big laugh at that conference
right these are little things that just
please packed mine ie I owe you and I
always whine what this is this is a sexy
slide I just wanted to make the way that
you made the text good thank you thanks
I appreciate that
how we doing on the questions go was
doing great actually we are having
several people asking if copies of the
slides will be available and the answer
is yes
Sathish said that she can't write fast
enough okay oh you haven't even really
gotten to the they would go through the
brunt of it yeah yeah we're about to get
into the meat this is but you're gonna
be posting this to YouTube channel right
I will be posting it to you - yeah good
so you'll see a replay of this available
we'll send it to you since you're
subscribed or you register if your
GoToWebinar will send a follow up link
with the replay and all that stuff I
just need a process it's recording on my
other computer right now through
ScreenFlow so what are masterminds alike
okay here we go into the meat of what a
mastermind group is so here we go two to
five people max five I mean there are
mass markers that are much bigger and I
feel two to five people is optimal
because if you're meeting perhaps every
week you have a chance every month
essentially to get in the hot seat and
it doesn't have to be a long time until
you're back on the hot seat again agree
you agree with two to five people
absolutely yet in fact actually a nice
sweet spot that I found is for actually
because when you when you connect for an
hour and we will obviously you'll break
down the whole Jose thing and things I
but there have been times where we've
thrown the hot seat idea out of the way
and we just more we want more of a
Productivity check point type call and
everybody gets kind of 15 minutes on
that one hour and it's a nice way to be
able to jet and this you know we use a
similar sort of type of thing with
one-day business breakthrough right
where we break things down in terms of
like a 15-minute period so for people
for me has been
really really strong when I've been in
groups before no four people optimal two
to five people's fine again you just
need one other person to start mean
cliff ravenscraft we started our own
before we added more people in and then
when I am in with Jamie she asked me
when they had a few people in the group
already next you want these people that
you're gonna be associating with to
share the same values and goals as you
they don't necessarily have to be in the
same each actually it's optimal if
they're not and we'll talk we'll talk
more about that in a sec but they should
absolutely share the same values and
goals as you and it's important to know
who those people are and get to know
them a little bit first I mean you don't
just want to blank ask somebody if they
want to be in your mastermind group
right because you're gonna be talking
about your business and sharing things
that you're gonna be planning for in the
future so it's really important to do
that are we doing a little Pearson yeah
we're going periscoping right now if
anybody's on periscope if you don't look
at your computer screen and then the
last and most important thing is you
need people who are gonna be willing to
be dissected meaning they're not gonna
feel offended or bummer if you know the
group at four if anybody says anything
about what they're up to like the last
person you want is somebody who thinks
they know it all who presents stuff and
anytime to get some sort of criticism or
suggestion they're like no that's not
that's not right right and I always say
that you don't wanna be the smartest
person either yeah and speaking of that
this is what I like to feel about the
group in whole so the group should be
you know if you were to consider
yourself a five no matter where you're
at in business you consider yourself a
five between a scale of zero or one to
ten you want the group to be plus two or
minus two from where you're at that's
optimal for you and the reason for that
is if you have somebody for example if
you are five and you have other fires in
the group and there's a ten that person
they were they will eventually leave the
group right because they're at a level
beyond where you guys are at they're
gonna feel like they're not getting a
lot out of it and they might feel like
and I've felt this way before
like they're the ones that are always
the ones who were just providing
information and getting nothing out of
it right and at the top of the of the
webinar here I talked about the fact
that I just left a group about a month
or so ago and this is the exact reason
why I decided to part ways and make room
for another member within that group
because I honestly felt and and you know
I mean absolutely no disrespect to the
people that are in the group in any way
shape or form but I felt as if I was
just honestly at this point a year of
being together I felt like I was almost
giving away free consultation cause
that's how I felt and I didn't want to
feel that way so I we parted ways very
amicably they've already found a
replacement for me and things are going
great with them so sometimes you just
gotta move on it is one of those yeah
absolutely so plus or minus two levels
and again you don't want somebody to be
completely you know the ones when you're
five and you're with other people around
that range because you're gonna feel
like that person doesn't really
contribute or have much to contribute
and that person's gonna be the one who's
trying to take information from
everybody else but not giving back you
know you want it to be a mutual kind of
everybody helping everybody else type of
thing absolutely it was just a real
quick who's hosting the periscope stream
it's me a Chris Tucker
arjan nice okay different itches it's
actually a good thing if you have people
in different ages a lot of people feel
like they have to have people in their
mastermind groups who are in the exact
same market as them doing the exact same
thing it's actually great if you have
other people in other spaces because you
get outside perspectives from different
markets and I've learned so much of a
bit the best example is in that group
I'm in with Jaime tardy from eventual
millionaire Rajic Russell I mean he's
not not well-known yet for his online
presence with remarkably human comments
something he's building right now but
he's well-known as a hypnotist and a
sword swallower who'd swallow swords
right that is something to be well-known
of all right he's in Ripley's Believe It
or Not and Guinness Book of World
Records for that right now you might be
like well what benefit can the group
members get from somebody who swallows
swords now besides the random
entertainment that we have when are when
were ever together it's the fact that he
has all this amazing stage presence he
has thousands of hours on stage 10,000
hours probably you know if you want to
go back to Malcolm Gladwell and he has a
lot of experience booking things and
getting involved with conference at
stage as a result of being in a group
with Roderick yeah that's a great point
because he's got so much experience
there it's gonna rub off on you whether
you
even going after it or not it's gonna
rub off on you after so yeah absolutely
so try to involve with other people and
it's okay if there's somebody in the
commits what may seem like a completely
random niche to get into your group with
you and here's another big thing that
stops a lot of people they think that
all of these matchmakers have to be in
person actually most of mine are not in
most mine in my history have not been in
person it opens up a lot more people for
you if you can understand that you can
meet with these people virtually yeah I
mean I've had issues before being
obviously based in the Philippines I've
had problems before where because of
timezone difference is it's been a
headache or not just me but my other
mastermind group members and the tranny
comedy yeah it's it's tough when you go
really international like that it's
really really tough yeah but you know if
it's worth the extra hassle of working
out time zone and just sticks and things
like that then you know to be connected
with the right people then it's worth
putting in the extra you know effort but
ideally I found that you know try and
get on the same timezone is it's better
for everybody right or at least in the
same part of the world yes but again it
doesn't have to be in person no not at
all no no because then you can just be
wherever you're at so the cool thing is
there's a lot of different conferencing
types of tools out there that you can
use for instance Skype you get a number
of Jews er names together on skype and
that can be your meeting warm there's
also goto meeting which is nice because
then you can show HD video from each of
the webcams that you have and then you
kind of get a little bit more personal
and personable with you know what you're
saying and what you're doing
there's also Google Hangouts which is
you know free and completely obvious I
think nowadays is and the uber
conference is really good there's also
free conference call calm but uber
conference is great it's when I just
recently discovered because you don't
need an access code for it and the cool
thing is
oh that's interest so you could actually
tweet out details to it yeah I mean like
that you don't want to tweet out because
you don't want everyone just saying like
if you wanted to if there was a time
where you want this sort of like a
genuine kind of all-access sort of type
call with your community as well rather
than just the MA
I believe so yeah I mean the cool thing
is instead of being like okay you have
to dial this number and use access code
4 6 9 12 1 2 2 4 like you know as you
forget that number right it's just
really easy to do it and and and they
seem to be on it actually so those are
the tools you can use now here's the
structure of a mastermind group for an
hour-long call now there might be times
when you're together with a mastermind
group much longer and there might be
times where you're in person to where
you're meeting for a full day but this
is a general structure of an hour-long
