hey stuck on anything here I'm from
niche type project and we're going live
I'm going to talk about how to create an
Amazon affiliate niche site or an
authority site amazing path system good
encounter so I'm gonna go over the high
level of creating a niche site an
authority site some people call them
authority sites but this is an Amazon
affiliate site I'm just gonna cover the
high level the 4 step pretty basic how
to get started with on my marketing in
affiliate marketing in general so if you
are a frequent watcher of the
livestreams here this will be a you know
a more I guess beginner oriented
sometimes I go really deep into you know
the nuances of a niche site or an
authority site out there and people like
what's up thanks for joining in
David thank you for joining as well if
this is like the 101 this is like niche
site 101 affiliate marketing 101 and
it's primarily going to be oriented
around Amazon Associates in the Amazon
associate program and if you know good
people I see we got we're starting to
get more there's up to five people on
here now we have Rohan what's up Rohan
if you good folks can just hit the like
button the little thumbs up deal this is
actually part of a little experiment
that I'm going to try I'll tell you
about it in a week or two and hopefully
you know I'll start being able to show
up on time but you know that's another
another story
Lia what's up thank you for joining yeah
thanks for everyone for hitting the
the thumbs up that will it will help the
experiment I think so
alright we're getting more and more
people again I'm going to cover like
like David said his niche sites 101
Authority sites 101 this is like the
high level forced
process to create generally a you know
passive income source using internet
marketing and essentially the amazon
associate program thanks David for
clicking light Dennis is on also the the
likes are are really starting to ramp up
we have five now so hopefully we'll get
more and okay I think we could start
getting into it
hi I was a little bit late today
although it sounds like other people are
a little bit late also so it's it's uh
one of those deals if I have a meeting
beforehand I don't run it super tight so
I went over a little bit I was speaking
to one of the five figure niche site
students and the experiment that I'm
doing today which I didn't even tell you
about but she gave me the idea so every
time I talked to someone like I'm
learning a little bit so it was a super
interesting thing that he told me I'm
excited to see if it work and Florian
mentioned that he thanks me for a quick
response to the kgr question you're
welcome
and alright let's get to it
what's up Sergey thanks for joining okay
so in general this affiliate site model
is one that will if you do it right
we'll bring you passive income in that
once you do the like the set up work
these four steps that I'm going to tell
you about to set up an Amazon affiliate
site like once you get the site in place
it's a really a small amount of work you
know each week each month it's really
just maintenance work to keep things
current the more serious you take it you
know the more work you can do you can
grow these sites to you know huge
businesses with very high profit margins
that is
one of the characteristics of the Amazon
affiliate model usually the profit
margins are really high like 90% so it
feels weird you know
accountants wonder what the heck you're
doing with such high profit margins and
no employees but it's a good model and
the the fourth step so first is
selecting the niche so that is a whole
set of activities but selecting the
niche is basically you know it can be as
simple as going over to Amazon browsing
the categories and finding a specific
category that you're interested in now
I'm not going to give like two specific
examples because I really try not to out
any one sites or their niches but you
know there's still plenty out there even
though there are more and more people
getting involved in this a niche site
model there are plenty of niches but I
do have a few videos where I show you
and a teardown specific sites that are
already public sites so I'll mention a
couple just to give you an idea so if
you're looking for a niche you can think
about sites like outdoor gear lab baby
gear lab the wire cutter and then there
are you know even larger more general
sites like top 10 reviews now I don't
typically recommend like a top 10
reviews type site it's far too
competitive those are usually your large
publishing companies but when you look
back at you know outdoor gear lab they
cover outdoor gear like you would
imagine so it's basically any product
that might be in like an REI or a Bass
Pro Shops or if you're an international
viewer here it could be well I don't
know any other I don't know
international brands in other countries
sorry but basically you know a big site
that are sorry a big retail store that
sells like outdoor hiking equipment so
you can cover
a lot of different products in there so
once you select your niche and I will
mention selecting the niche is very
important for doing a lot of work after
that so if you picked the wrong niche
you could actually be in a little bit of
trouble right if you picked the wrong
niche that happens to not be profitable
then it's not gonna work out for you so
you can you can get a really good idea
of what a profitable niche is by looking
at the fact that there are other sites
out there you know given the fact that I
mentioned outdoor gear lab you can
assume that outdoor equipment any of the
products that they list on their site
that they're reviewing those are
profitable like products that people are
buying online that's why they have
content around it so there are a few
videos that I could recommend on my
channel on keyword research and those
keyword research live training webinars
can point you in the right direction for
narrowing down and figuring out like
specific keywords to go after for the
niche so that's part one select clear
niche part two is setting up your site
luckily this is actually a fairly simple
part of the process even if you've never
created a website before I hadn't I've
never used when it first started four
years ago I never used WordPress before
I didn't know really anything about
niche sites and I bought a hosting
account for I think like about five
bucks a month or so from Bluehost and
you know set up WordPress with a
one-click install which took about five
minutes or so and then after that I just
I used the word press 2012 theme this
was 2013 is the 2012 theme with white
background black text thing was like
14-point Arial font and a little header
that had the name of the site so super
basic super fast setting up the site is
pretty easy and from there I just I
published content right
so at that point using WordPress and
publishing content is like using a word
processor you just you know you format
the you format the content and you know
add some pictures in there it's pretty
straightforward so there's nothing
really hard about setting up the site a
lot of people will ask about themes and
you know it doesn't matter to be honest
with you the theme doesn't matter people
will say that there are big advantages
to having a something like thrive themes
which personally I think thrive themes
is like little overkill there's a lot of
options in there and for the most basic
goal of publishing content thrive themes
is too much it's a little pricey you
know it's a monthly fee situation so
it's something you have to pay for each
month or you like lose support and from
my perspective because you have all
those options with thrive themes ends up
being a little bloated a little slow and
I would much prefer like a fast site
that just displays the content all the
bells and whistles the ability to format
the content in a sexy way making the you
know creating buttons and having text
boxes like I don't know that it really
helps so okay I see a couple people have
done
Sergey what's up he thanks for leaving a
light there really appreciate it and
David does say he likes thrive so it is
you know for certain people they love it
and they like the ecosystem you
basically can get like a full marketing
funnel set up with thrive but in the
most basic sense you don't need it so
Dennis says thrive is great for those
that don't know any HTML coding so yeah
thrive has its and manages for sure but
when it comes down to it the theme
doesn't matter I will say that you know
if you have the budget check out thrive
things look pretty good they're clean I
think there's too many options in there
the other part is there are a few things
that are optimized for Amazon affiliate
sites like the ultimate Azon theme I
think there's one called Azon Authority
a couple of my friends each owned those
two you know competing themes they're
both good and they're both optimized for
Amazon stuff so those are worth it to
check out they're actually like great
bargains in general and they're worth
checking out if you are you know if you
have the money to invest just worth it
to check it out and I see we have quite
a few viewers and I will mention again
if you have a second if you're you know
enjoying watching this or even if you're
not enjoying if you have the opportunity
to hit the like button down there if the
thumbs up I would really appreciate it
and next so part one is a recap part one
you pick your niche you should you know
consider the keyword research around
that there's some free training around
that on the channel so you can check it
out
number two is to set up your site which
is pretty it's fairly straightforward
even if you're not a wordpress developer
or anything it's pretty easy to do this
stuff and if you wanted to again if you
had the budget you actually could hire
someone to set up the site for you and
you probably would be pretty cheap but I
think it's probably a good learning
experience to get that on your resume
that like you go ahead and use WordPress
third thing is publishing content so if
you're a fan of niche type project which
I hope you are it is the theme content
is the theme of a series that I'm doing
right now so you know contents a huge
part of my sites I am going for more of
a volume play for content versus you
know having a few posts that have a lot
of backlinks to it I'm publishing a lot
of posts but you do not have many
backlinks the content in general is
going to be built from those key
that we talked about briefly in part one
so if the keyword was I always use
examples from my desk because I'm not
creative if it was post-it notes
you know pink post-it notes versus
orange post-it notes the content would
be comparing the two and going through
the pros and cons probably some pictures
of them maybe using them action you know
talking about if the adhesive is better
on the pink ones or if it's just in your
mind and the orange ones are pretty much
the same except the different color and
you can go deep on this stuff so with
the content you write it naturally right
you don't want to do any keyword
stuffing you want to have a good hook
you want to structure it in the
beginning so people are interested in
finishing the article and hopefully
helping them make a decision to purchase
or not purchase something based on your
recommendation now you know a few things
to note about the content you should use
images right so you should use images
you should put captions on those images
and alt tags all of that stuff should be
keyword rich right so in the file name
of the image of opportunity to place the
keyword in there post-it notes comparing
orange and pink post-it notes so you
have the opportunity in those three
places to add some you know SEO on-page
SEO optimization you can also you know
go over to YouTube find some videos
related to the topic take the embed code
from YouTube and place it in the post so
now you're showing Google that you are
putting a video from their ecosystem
right so YouTube is owned by Google and
then you're able to you get that extra
bit of relevancy and hopefully providing
value to the visitor who comes to your
page based on that content within the
video so that's another good thing from
just a formatting perspective right you
know I came from a corporate background
and I would write boring technical stuff
and a lot of times that ends up just
being like walls of text without a lot
of subheadings images or videos turns
out when you publish stuff on the
Internet
people are distracted all the time so
people also skim quite a bit one thing
that there are actually a few things
that help your post be skippable is to
you know place subheadings right lots of
subheadings if you're you know if you're
familiar with WordPress these are going
to be like h2 and h3 tags so if you put
those subheadings in it helps people you
know skim and it also breaks up the text
so it's not just a big wall of text with
a couple line breaks it's you know
different size fonts that touch people's
eyes you have images and people tend to
read captions so you can have all that
on your page the two other things is
that numbered list and bullet points so
again that's a really great way to
summarize information you could have a
list of items sometimes you know
sometimes you want it to be numbered
like if it was a process and sometimes
you just have the bullet points if it's
maybe like a list of technical
specifications about the product so that
covers content and again I sort of
focused my content plan around a volume
of content based on the keyword golden
ratio again you can check out the
keyword golden ratio if you search for
it you should find my video right away I
made it up so mine should be at the top
I hope and the content portion again
there's a free training a webinar on my
channel about content plans for niche
and authority sites and it talks about
you know essentially scaling up the
process of you know from when you write
it yourself like I started out writing
the concept myself and then you know
slowly hiring a writer and that maybe a
couple writers and then maybe an editor
to really help you ramp it out there's
only so much you could write I mean
personally I sort of run out of steam
when I write I don't write very quickly
so hiring people is super important and
I will pause before we go to the fourth
and final step and say hello I see a
couple other people ask questions so
let's see how much do I focus on site
speed so I'll come back to that in a
minute Cory that's a really good
question
I love site speed and then David says
you love to read the content first and
then only after two weeks see what
keyword is ranking for and then what you
should change to make it rank higher
that is that's a very smart thing to do
I am similar I usually it's more like
two to four months or so part of it is
I'm too busy and I can't focus on stuff
unfortunately it's painful to admit but
it's true and the other part is the
excuse that I make I guess is if you let
it you know hang out for two to four
months like there's some age on it maybe
there's some natural stuff that happened
through organic traffic I mean you got
shared a couple times which is actually
rare with my content but it's worth
mentioning so again I will say if you
are enjoying this please hit the light
if you're watching this later
you know we're live right now but if
you're watching this later and you have
questions please leave a comment below
and I'll come back to it and you answer
them okay
the fourth part is promoting your site
in attracting traffic so this like most
things is a controversial topics people
sometimes do grey hat techniques and
grey hat essentially means any technique
that violates the google webmaster
guidelines so when we're building these
sites were typically interested in
having any you know basically organic
traffic coming from Google we don't want
to pay for ads on say Adwords and
that spend happening right it kills our
margins we don't really want to run
Facebook Ads a lot of people have been
asking me hey can I run Facebook ads to
get traffic to my affiliate site you can
do that but you're probably not going to
make money because you won't make enough
margin on your commission to make the
math work I haven't heard anyone doing
that profitably so the methods that I
use are very simple it's a two-step
process this is white hat white hat is
what Google deems as not against their
terms of service
usually there's less risk when you do
white hat techniques there's still risk
in anything that you're doing right any
action that you're taking online
business there's risk to it but in
general white hat techniques are much
less risk when you actually sell those
sites if you want to sell a site you
probably will have you know more
interested buyers you will probably get
higher offers and more favorable offers
in general so the white head techniques
that I use two steps very
straightforward it's basically blog
commenting so you go to blogs within
your niche you leave a few comments
thoughtful comments well thought out
it's really great if you can ask a
question in there maybe leave two or
three comments over the course of two
weeks people notice that stuff I mean I
mentioned it just the other day I have a
decent amount of traffic to my site
niche site project and if you leave a
comment I'll probably remember you and
if you leave two or three I'm definitely
going to remember you there's not that
many people that leave comments even on
the post that maybe get their 20 or 30
comments which is a lot for me I'll
probably remember so the the one little
extra thing you can do think of it as
like step one Part B you can sign up for
the person's email list and
email them so if you email them you end
up with a very yes a very powerful
connection with a person because now
you've taken us kalay to the
relationship right you've taken it to or
you've taken it from commenting to
actually sending an email which is
probably even more rare that the person
gets an email you ask a couple questions
you drop a couple flattering you know
compliments towards them and you don't
ask for anything last thing you want to
do is come off as like needy or someone
who's like trying to you know serve
himself so the next part of the white
hat you know promotion and outreach is
around guest posting so right now guest
posting is getting a little bit I would
say out of hand because a lot of people
are trying to scale it and they're
trying to send out you know hundreds of
emails using templates that you know
perhaps they got from me or other people
who do guest posting or have done desk
posting and they worked really well like
two years ago it works not so good now
like blasting the internet with a bunch
of emails doesn't usually work out as
well and there's so many people doing it
now that I usually get like a few offers
per week to my blogs and I just delete
them because they're very generic and
kind of know who the people are it's
obvious they don't read my blog so the
thing is if you go through the steps
that I mentioned before commenting two
to three times sending an email and then
not asking for anything yet you're
already so far ahead of people that are
trying to get guest post by sending out
just blanket emails covering a whole
niche so if you do that you have the
relationship it's kind of not scalable
right all the little extra steps is not
as scalable as just sending out emails
you're in a very good position to ask
for a guest post at that point and what
I like to do send them an email and say
hey I was about to publish this article
I thought it made good be good for your
blog so if you're interested I'd be
happy to
you know publish it as a guest post over
there it's you know an affiliate post
there's actually a couple products I
mentioned so why don't you put your own
affiliate link in there and you know I'm
happy to you know drive traffic over
from my social channels or something
like that and usually if you've gone
through the multiple week process of
becoming friends with a person you're
probably gonna get a pretty good answer
they'll probably accept your guest post
you're gonna leave your links and I
mentioned this yesterday and one of the
other wives dreams about giving links to
affiliate content when you're friends
with someone they're probably gonna
leave your link in for you so that is
the four step process I'll just do a
quick recap and that is you select your
niche you publish content you're sorry
you just select your niche you set up
your site you publish content and then
you promote the content so yeah there
are some steps in between there but
essentially that is the process the very
basic process setting up an Amazon
affiliate niche site some people call
them authority sites but in essence
these are affiliate sites that are
working with Amazon Associates Program
okay I see a couple questions came
through so I'll answer them right now
but it will have to leave fairly quickly
so if I don't get your question I'm
sorry but just leave a comment below and
I'll be able to come back to them later
and get a more thorough answer and again
if you have the opportunity to click the
thumbs up and you haven't already liked
the video I would really appreciate it
again if you're watching the recorded
version would also be great if you'd
like that as well okay so Corey asks how
much do you focus on page speed it seems
every site except Google sex with
PageSpeed scores I focus on it a lot the
number one thing you can do is make sure
you're on a fast
sting account if you're on the shared
hosting account with like hundreds of
others like five to seven hundred other
domains hosted on that same account it's
not going to be a very fast site at best
you'll probably be at two and a half to
like ten seconds or so my sites all
loaded at that speed for a very long
time closer to ten seconds until I moved
over to it's either there's a few
different names so I went over to
WordPress optimized hosting account on
Bluehost and there's only about ten
other sites on that server with me
there's more resources for each of the
sites and my site loads and like under a
second unless it's a huge page with a
lot of pictures it lets in less than a
second I have another hosting account
over on MDD hosting it's called semi
dedicated so it's not a dedicated server
just for me
there are about 10 other people on there
you get really fast
server response speeds so my site loads
fast there
also the other part so if you have a
fast server the other thing you can do
is make sure your images aren't too big
those are the two biggest things for me
once I clean that up
everything else like helped a little bit
I have a CDN set up that's a caching
what does that see the end can I forget
what it what it stands for but anyway it
speeds up your site it's only about like
a few bucks a month so I think I pay
about seven dollars for a few sites that
are cached for me and so I like site
speed and I like to geek out on site
speed but once it's set up
I usually don't worry about it and
typically if you have small images and
your you have a reasonable theme it will
load fast okay and Corey talked about
setting up the PPC campaign on Google
just to see what would happen so you
actually got three clicks and a couple
clicks that
so yeah this is an interesting way to
get a little traffic especially if you
just publish a page just getting some
traffic to the page is a helpful thing
and David mentioned so this isn't this
is actually I've done this a couple
times so David says in the guest posting
and promotion area you ask people if
they want to write on your blog then you
flip it around so it works like a charm
and basically I mean that is that's a
really cool thing to do some people will
take you up on the offer and they'll say
hey yeah I love to guest post that's a
cool thing and then you know at that
point if you ask them if you could guest
post on their site the rule of
reciprocity kicks in and like they'll
probably say yes so that's awesome day
but the other thing is sometimes people
say hey I'm just too busy I don't have
time to write but if you want to publish
something on my site that would be cool
instead so that's uh I forgot about that
little trick there but that's really
awesome as we go on sorry the garbage
truck is going by so if you hear that
it's just right outside my window
apparently on the site load of time
David talks about using a plugin for
lazy loading images and that brings me
to a another idea and that is not to
have too many plugins so I typically
don't have I try and keep it to ten
plugins or less and if there is
something that I think is really
necessary
I'll like challenge myself on it like do
I really need a table plug-in that helps
me make tables turns out I don't you can
just create you know a table using a
table generator and just to get like the
raw HTML and it loads super fast but
lazy loading can be a really great way
to you know slow down
what is loaded and dummy it's a content
delivery network thank you see the N is
a content delivery
network so as we're going through and
David mentions one that one other thing
like giving big names from your niche to
guest post on your site but can help
basically raise the you know perceived
Authority within the niche so then you
know you have the ability to you know
ask other people for guest post your
friends perhaps with people that have
big sites so you are now sort of in the
peer group of them you're a hub so
you've elevated yourself and you'll have
the ability to guest post up more sites
and people just know who you are the
name recognition is key there so cool
thanks everyone for hopping on today and
hopefully about a week or two I'll be
able to give you a little information
about like the test that I was trying
today and as I mentioned before you're
watching live you have the ability to
like it please do it if you're watching
the recorded version you can still like
it and if you have questions please
leave the comment I will answer each one
of them and go through them so thanks
everyone for hopping on today I'll see
you tomorrow and if you are interested
in the content stuff that I was talking
about head over to niche site project
slash blog and you should see one of the
most recent post is about streamlining
your content using two very cool
techniques the faq method in the RPM so
if you check that out hopefully it'll
help you out creating your own content
which of course is step 3 any four-part
process for the outline we'll catch you
tomorrow thanks Leo thanks David Dennis
dami Corey and me if I forgot any other
folks
Sergi florian rohan appreciate it
we'll see you tomorrow
have a great day
