all right hey it's coming to hear from
niche site project and with any luck you
can actually hear me so I think I can
take these earphones out because I don't
actually need them I did my test earlier
so I see there's like two people on so
if you could let me know in the chat
Celia welcome Dan welcome also and Paul
let me know in the chat if you can hear
me I ran a two tests earlier that came
out well uh it actually worked the last
time I tried to do a webinar it did not
work at all so we had to cancel it so
looking forward to actually having this
work out so this webinar this session is
how to get promoted in your corporate
job so I have a little experience with
this and it is definitely a departure
from the normal internet marketing and
Amazon affiliate content that I normally
go over however it turns out like half
or more people that attend the sessions
usually have a day job of some kind so
this is like an idea that I've had in
the in the past to share this story
because it took me several years to sort
of put it together and now that I've
done some internet marketing I see
there's like some very clear parallels
and ideas in the internet marketing
world that I actually implemented from
you know what I was doing to actually
get promoted so as I said it looks like
there's a couple people in the watching
so it can can people hear me ominous I
imagine if you couldn't you'd also say I
can't hear you
so I'll just type it in just to be sure
in case someone doing something else
maybe you see him in chat now now you'll
answer back so hopefully people can hear
me and/or see me I think the last time
people couldn't even see me which was
hear me
thank you sir appreciate it okay yep
like I mentioned I actually ran I ran to
test webinars earlier this morning just
to make sure this thing worked and then
it took me a little while to do that I
just rebooted my machine so everything
should be fresh and working and clean so
cool we'll hang out here a minute or
longer or so just to make sure people
have a chance to join up and a couple of
new things am I set up here you can't
see it very well but I have a new
monitor here so that's pretty cool and
actually you know it's it it was kind of
funny when I was running the test so
I'll actually show you a picture that I
that I took when I was doing this little
test here hold I have a second only
because it's silly not because it's
super interesting so share my screen
here
running the test webinar and yeah
there's my new monitor is my birthday
actually on Saturday maybe six so my
wife got me a new monitor I have been
working off the laptop screen for quite
a while and yeah so I have a new big
monitor and I like it so far
so as we're getting started here I see
just a handful of people and I'm gonna
head over here
I believe that well I didn't do a ton of
advertising for this webinar it's a new
topic
as well and something that I'm actually
interested in and sort of behind the
scenes since we have the small intimate
group here as I'm you know talking in
interacting with people to follow niche
type project I see there are quite a few
people that either have a corporate job
in the software or like system
implementation industry or their project
managers like a high number of the
people that interact with me at a high
level usually have like a similar
background as me and that's pretty cool
because I think we can identify with
each other in a way that other people
can't now if if you're not in that group
of people I think you could still get
quite strong um you know set of skills
about this curve I guess a set of skills
dealing with what we're talking about
today and I hope you know this like I
said this is the first draft this is the
first time I've shared this topic with
people before at all so you know my
thought is you everyone who actually
attends could give you a little feedback
but you know it's something that I see
as a great way to you know sort of break
out of the solely the internet marketing
area and it turns out a lot of people
have corporate jobs and it also turns
out this pretty damn hard to get from
if you're doing the wrong things even if
you're doing the wrong or the right
things it can't also be difficult but
anyway this that's why we're doing this
topic like it can be a way to you know
pull people into the niche site project
you know community that weren't aware
before through topics that they're
interested in so I would imagine for
example LinkedIn by the way but if I you
know put it out on LinkedIn I have you
know a bunch of contacts from my old
world my old job in the corporate
project management world who would
probably be really interested and then
right they have no idea about internet
marketing or online business or maybe
even they don't even know that I switch
is not super active on LinkedIn but all
of a sudden the whole world could be
opened up to them and they would realize
hey I could spend more time with my
family if I didn't have to work 12 to 14
hour days okay I'm still long enough
let's get into it
so as normal you know ask questions as
we go small group today so feel free to
hop in whenever and let's get to it
so soundcheck hopefully you can still
hear me and if not just yelling let me
know I'm done cutting to-infinitive
niche site project so that's my dog
Brody and I alt in the mountains so it's
pretty cool we actually went down to
Yellowstone a couple days ago we funny
enough we picked like the last rainy day
it's been clear and sunny for the last
two two days but when we went down it
was actually rainy it actually snowed
some and there were a lot of cloud so
it's a little cold
so anyway I'm looking forward to the
spring and summer starting up here if
you're new to niche type project or to
me specifically have been featured or
quoted on a bunch of different places
online you can see them here
and if you just hunt around a little bit
you could find some guest posts a lot of
which are you know pretty long-form how
to type articles so question for the
group who has a full-time corporate gig
right now you can just let me know in
the chat just say yes or no and if you
wanted to share like what industry or
and that'd be interesting too so always
share this here for you know people that
have been to more than one of these
you've seen it a lot so my niche site
timeline sort of follows a rollercoaster
of you know learning and success and
failures and then you know more learning
more failures but as it applies to this
you know corporate idea the corporate
job I got laid off from my company in
July 2015 and basically I worked there
for nine years working my way up to
middle management and I haven't
mentioned it much before but pretty sure
I got laid off because I was delegating
a great deal of my work to my team in my
opinion that's what a manager should do
then I was able to focus on sort of
bigger more interesting problems that
had a bigger impact rather than you know
putting out every fire um and dealing
with that sort of thing but you know it
turned out that the organization that I
was in didn't appreciate delegating and
having a team you know doing more tasks
and the manager sort of I was going to
say check out but the manager um in my
case I was really trying to you know try
some different stuff I was testing
things out so I was going to get this
big reign in your organization that
didn't appreciate it so I got laid off
anyhow I see dandas software okay cool
were you developer Dan by the way and
then
léo your wife has a corporate job state
judge right now you're you're working on
a cool TBD right
and then further I was going to you know
I guess just thinking about jobs my wife
worked at a company she actually was
laid off a couple weeks before Christmas
and it was one of those deals where they
had her lay off a few people on her team
and then laid her off a few weeks later
so you see that in TV and movies but
they literally you know forced her to
lay folks off and didn't tell her any
anything about what was going on and
after ten years is a small company by
the way like 40 people so you know not
much loyalty even in the small company
they just sort of I you know I was going
to say some harsher words but basically
they just you know used her to help
layoff people because that's a tough
thing to do and then laid her off so
anyway she has another job she just
started a little while ago so things are
good there by the way I mentioned q @ q
and a's at the end but feel free to ask
whenever so Dan's a UX designer cool
okay and are you currently looking for
promotion Dan at this point just I mean
like I said there's not too many people
on here today so it'll be easy to tailor
it to like whatever we want to cover
okay so why should you listen to me I
think um you know at least a few people
on I know have gone through like the
corporate ladder a little bit and they
understand the politics and all behind
it but so I worked at a couple places
where they have a pretty like structured
hierarchical design in their org chart
overall and I worked in Accenture for
about two years or so and that is a
management consulting company primarily
but they also do services and some other
stuff like that but I did you know
consulting and it was fresh out of
school it's kind of funny the model that
they
we're descent people like me who didn't
really know anything about anything and
then they charge a crazy rate to the
clients but I mean we were all I would
say fairly polished they put us through
you know six weeks of pretty intense
training and it's smart people right so
we actually got stuff done but the level
of experience that I that I had is kind
of funny so then later on I moved over
to a company called Amdocs it's an
Israeli company that does software
primarily for telecom companies and its
back-end software so a lot of people
haven't heard of Amdocs unless they've
worked in the telecom industry or if
they're in like the st. Louis area which
there's like the main North American
office there but it's pretty big company
tens of thousands of employees and you
know they work with big you know tier 1
telecom company so I worked there in
their consulting division for almost 10
years and you know through that I
learned quite a bit about I guess going
through the process of getting promoted
struggling quite a bit not understanding
like why you know I wasn't getting
promoted even though in my mind I was
doing better work than some of my peers
who were promoted and I just I couldn't
quite figure it out eventually um I got
promoted from like an analyst to a
consultant at Accenture that I moved
over to AM Docs and they hired me the
consultant level and it had to get
promoted again to senior consultant and
then eventually I got consulting manager
so one point that I want to emphasize
here is I didn't do this quickly right
so I learned through some trial and
error and then asking for help and I
think that's key to point out there were
some people that I knew who just kind of
got it naturally they got the politics
naturally where they had some you know I
guess more thorough mentoring in the
area of just getting promoted versus
other ideas so the point is I did things
that didn't work and then I adjusted and
figured out what did work so I feel like
and I think because I struggled and I
had to go through this process of trial
and error and learning I think I have a
better handle than say a person that you
know got promoted on the fast track and
made manager in you know three and a
half years and like a high-growth period
which I wasn't and I like joined um you
know in 2003 2004 and then you know the
market was up-and-down so I wasn't in
like a boom growth period I sort of like
scraped my way through and I think well
hopefully I learned more from it than if
I had it easy okay so as I mentioned I
really didn't get it I felt a lot and I
I really I remember one of the first
projects I was on and uh was BellSouth
which eventually got gobbled up by AT&T
but I was on a project there BellSouth
there was this this guy who he just he
really he was my my lead right he was a
lead and I just couldn't figure out how
he became a lead because he didn't seem
to have the technical chops he didn't
seem to be much of a hard worker but he
seemed like so confident in meetings and
you know talking on calls and stuff and
I think that is one of the reasons why
additionally I found out like he's a
master networker so you know you know
I'll talk about that a little bit more
but that is one of the reasons why he
was able to move up quickly become lead
become a manager and I mean he's done
well for himself for sure but it wasn't
through um you know doing the best job
which is interesting because I you know
it came from an engineering background
we're an engineering school sorry and my
majors and engineering Computer
Engineering so I sort of assumed that
you know merit and like doing the best
job possible was like the best thing
that you could do but I didn't get it so
what will not work this is sort of like
indicative of some of the information
that you you may hear and I looked up a
couple places the muse and live career
comm and google it and pick the top two
results so some of these listed here are
from that but as you read some of them
actually I will click on it and open
this window up just because it is almost
laughable so bosses tell us eleven
things that will get you promoted and I
know it'll be kind of boring to like be
the whole thing but I tell me I'm wrong
that doesn't seem like I mean it depends
on the culture but challenging your boss
you tell you from the last couple roles
when I had was it going to work very
well I tried it a few times didn't work
well um there's a couple other things
you know be drama free sounds good smile
I mean they're really really grasping at
straws here take notes I mean what kind
of garbage is this this is not helpful
at all it's like show up and do your job
come on so don't expect to be rewarded
that's fair I mean I think that kind of
goes along with life um sadly I mean the
top reviews don't go to the people who
do the best work thank you yeah and like
it just doesn't um you know I didn't
know I was like you know 23 24 um okay
and here's one here ask how you can help
so I think in certain times like that
actually could be a thing to do but I
definitely had a I definitely had a
actually had a career counselor a mentor
in my last position who told me you know
you need to make yourself indispensable
to the client you know he
gave us examples that you know I'm doing
a bi-week someone calls you know most of
the day in most weekends and you know
having to do some night shift and you
know they I don't know what they would
do without me and you know he was not
impressing it was like that is sounds
terrible like you're your kid I don't
have kids personally but he has kids and
he was like not spending time with his
kids and family and he was miserable and
I was like well that definitely sounds
like a thing I'm not going to do I'm not
going to volunteer for a bunch of stuff
and ask for help and you know it also
turns out it was saying he was working
like 80 hours a week or so and you can't
actually do like good work for 80 hours
is so a parent now that you know if
you're sitting on calls for like 10
hours a day like that's not really work
that's just like wasting time money so
anyway I'll get off the the soapbox here
but we'll go through some specific
examples and I'll turn it to go into
many tangents here so number one thing
that won't work expecting that doing
your job is enough even if you're in the
top 10% and like really really crushing
it like is not enough working overtime
so working overtime is an unfortunate
reality but that alone right if you show
up and you come in on those weekends and
you know you do those this little extra
things you know taking the notes or I
definitely I was on add on a testing
team at one point and you know I was
leading the time I was coordinating
things for the testing team and doing
project management work for him I wasn't
actually doing the testing but I still
had to come in you know on weekends
shift work around the holidays and you
know at that point not actually I was
like I came in you know last week and
I'm not coming in on Christmas Eve I'm
sorry you know works some nice not going
to do it and they actually gave me a bad
review shortly I mean they kicked me off
the project which
was that was actually been a bad thing
for me so I'm not sure if they
accomplished what they thought they were
accomplishing it did slow down my
promotion process probably but I'm 99%
sure that they weren't going to help me
get promoted anyway so the point is
working overtime is not going to like I
guess like be the differentiator now you
may not want to do what I did and tell
people no but I'm sometimes you got to
stand up for you know yourself or
they're just going to walk all over you
okay ICJ said uh I got the night a big
promotion because I became too valuable
to my boss and if she lost me she was
screwed for some reason the company
allowed current managers to beto
promotions Jay that sounds awful and I
bet that is not you know too rare and I
know I know for a fact like in the
organization that I was in like when I
became a manager I then had people that
I counseled and that I was a mentor for
and I can tell you that you know that
sort of like thing could happen I didn't
personally see it but I know for a fact
that you know they don't want to create
too much work for themselves in the
current manager whether it whether it's
like the career counselor or like the on
the job manager your reporting - for
your project or whatever like they could
knock the whole thing down - so that's
crazy
so another thing volunteering for more
work so this goes back to the point I
was making before just volunteering for
more work is not gonna be a real
differentiator I would say you're you're
better off doing like a really good job
on your core work and you know be
helpful in a way that is I guess nice
like if you if you if you're nice and
you show up on time like that goes a
long way so I wouldn't say you can't
volunteer for anything new but I would
say don't go crazy volunteer for
everything you know where I'm going to
tell you the things to do there's just
three that's pretty straightforward so
neural networking you know you hear oh
you got a network you need to go to the
extra dinners you need to go and spend
time and just network that's to like
like I know here general networking
right so just general networking and
showing up is not enough there's a
specific kind of networking I'm going to
tell you about that's like super
effective and it takes out like the
portion of networking where you
know they're wondering what and why you
are approaching them and they think you
want something what you do you're trying
to promote it after all so the way that
I'm going to outline to network like
takes that out of the equation and it
makes it easy makes it natural because
I'm actually I'm not that great of a
networker but the way I did it it was a
no-brainer worked fantastically so the
other thing that I'll mention is I got
um let me make sure okay so I'm going to
skip a slide here so how I learned some
of this stuff so I asked a friend who
was about 5 to 5 to 8 years ahead of me
and he worked at another big five
consulting company for a while and he
was a kind of guy who was always looking
for a new gig probably had you know an
interview every month or month and a
half and he did a really good job
you know navigating the corporate world
and had great contacts and just got cold
cold pitches from headhunters to to
check out gigs so I asked him about some
of this stuff he helped me out a lot
additionally there was another there was
a person who worked with me who was my
peer for many years and he got promoted
after he got promoted to manager he
coached me he was like if you do these
five or six things um in this format you
know Yemi's Frenchie he was like if you
hit these things like you'll be able to
get promoted and that sort of thing now
I'm going to skip back up here so that's
sort of how I came across this stuff
and here's what works we have three
things and it worked I didn't do all of
these for each promotion that I got but
has it got more difficult I needed to do
all of them so the first thing this is
what my friend Chris told me about it's
like get a mentor to levels up here's
the reason why so in the consulting
world we often had you know what they
referred to as a career counselor or a
mentor and that is almost always one
level ahead of where you are they if
they're doing a good job they'll talk to
you maybe you know once every two weeks
or so and check in they know the
projects that you're working on they
know what you're doing and then sort of
help you plan for your performance
reviews they give you actually they
perform those performance reviews
typically twice a year or sometimes once
a year and they keep you going in the
right direction and provide some
accountability so if you say you're
going to do um you know more networking
then they kind of hold you to it and you
you would report back to them really and
so if you say you're going to do
something they're going to evaluate you
on that so that's the typical like
mentorship now the problem is they are
just one level ahead of you and they you
know can speak on your behalf to get
promoted but the real power comes like
one level up because you know or one
level up from that so two levels up from
where you're at you're able to you know
contact someone that has the power and I
guess the org chart beneath them to
actually make a difference so when my
career counsellor was working with me he
was working with like three other people
when you go up to two levels over me
while all of a sudden it's you know a
hundred people in that org chart and I'm
you know one of 80 people at two levels
below something like that and you end up
building a relationship
with a person that can actually like
push a promotion in his or her
organization so that's why you go to
levels up now depending on your
organization it may be a little
difficult to get I guess make that
contact but if you ask around
particularly like your career counselor
or a manager you should be able to find
someone who is looking to help someone
who's ambitious after all they were in
that position before at some point and
most people in a you know director or
you know higher level management
position are looking to give back and
mentorship is a thing almost all
organizations evaluate their management
on ok so you should be able to find a
mentor for me I specifically had a
person a high-level director on the
engagement that I was on so I was able
to reach out to him I was already doing
some work with him so I you know scaled
it up and I did you know looked at him
and I may have asked him hey I want to
do more work as part of my performance
review goals and I would like to do more
stuff if you have anything specific let
me know and I probably I can't remember
exactly but I did have a couple ideas
that I brought to the table for like I
said I delegated a lot so I had some
free time so I you know brought to the
table hey we're doing this thing that's
inefficient I have an idea that I want
to try out and you know he said sure go
for it so you know I I scaled it out and
pilot scaled it out to you know whole
team of like a hundred people which
ended up being like fully effective and
you know I was able to quantify things
on my you know promotion proposal okay
moving on to the next one volunteer to
organize a charity event so this is gold
right here so when I was
at Accenture I I was like how you know
I'm not sure what to do to get promoted
I missed it the first time around and my
career counselor you know said those you
know a charity event is a good thing to
do so here's exactly what I did my my
father is a retired firefighter and I
think at the time he may have just
retired and I held a spaghetti spaghetti
dinner where I gave the donations to the
firefighters Burn Foundation so it's a
no brainer to you know get that sort of
thing organized when you you know have a
certificate I didn't have time to I
didn't have time to pull the certificate
up but actually saved my files I have a
certificate from the Burn Foundation in
the you know County in Georgia where my
father worked and yeah but you know
they're like thanks and I you know made
the donation so it was just a matter of
pulling together the you know a few
volunteers and I you know the one thing
that didn't do well with that is I
should have pulled in more volunteers
from the company to help out so I had
maybe just a bare minimum to get it done
and I was approaching my peers because
those are the people that I knew but the
thing that I really needed to do was try
and find the you know the guess level
above me and two levels above I didn't
understand it that early in my career
but if I could have gotten one or two
volunteers where you know we spend time
planning we spend time working on the
actuals dinner then your that is super
effective in you know way more time than
you're going to be able to get from them
during the day most likely then it's a
charity event right so the the main
thing here is it's an extracurricular
thing that you're giving
to the community and all companies want
to you know have a presence within the
community and if you're leading that up
that is a huge huge differentiator very
big now when I made the management level
um the consulting manager I did the same
thing it was for a shoot I can't I can't
even remember it was essentially
donations and organization was you know
pulling together donations and they
shipped it to you know third world
countries I'm sorry I didn't pay a huge
amount of attention on that one but
there were several directors a few
levels up that I was able to work with
and I also you know talked to the
organizer and said hey I want to help a
little bit can try and pull some people
from my project on which of course they
said yes it was one more help so I was
able to connect with that person who was
a director a couple levels ahead of me
so that was super helpful and then the
third part is to market yourself so
pulling it all together through the
networking of organizing a charity event
or at least being a part of a charity
event you can reach out to the people
that you've met it just tell them
straight up so this is the part that I
kind of miss you just tell them straight
up hey I'm looking to get promoted I
really need your support I know we
haven't worked together much but you
know I enjoy meeting you and if you have
the opportunity and if you would like to
it would really help me if you just you
know mentioned you worked with me at the
charity event or that I organize the
charity event and that it went well and
you thought it was great for the
community now you should ask them
yourself that that's good of course the
sorry I'm going to check the slides here
so okay sorry I'm gonna scroll through
here so the thing is like when you
market yourself you know you can ask the
people and again it feels very awkward
and I didn't do it early in my career
but later on
I was testing I thought hey I didn't get
promoted the last four years I may as
well try something like asking for help
so everyone who can help you get
promoted has been right there in your
shoes so they know what it takes if
you're out there trying to do stuff like
organize the charity events showing up
for those events and recruiting others
well they like that and they're happy to
help you now the thing is you're
probably going to meet several people
not everyone's going to you know number
one be on those meetings that decide the
promotions but the fact that you know
you're asking goes a long way so the
other thing that you need to do is you
know when you think about the mentor to
levels up and when you think about like
I guess one level up at your career
counsellor level or other people that
sort of work with you in a organization
you may not report to them directly but
there are levels above you tell them to
tell them that you would like for them
to speak on your behalf
and also you know make sure that they
will speak up like some people are a
little shy depending on the organization
the calls could have you know 40 or 50
people and you kind of have to step in
and you know give your opinion so if you
can give them some talking points that
helps also so you know the other thing
is you don't want to make it work for
them so you can make it really easy to
cover certain areas and just say hey can
you talk about this when we work
together now when you get other people
in those organization and at least like
one or two of your mentors to like check
in with those individuals to now they've
been asked twice so you know to be
specific I asked my career counselor to
reach out to these five other directors
who knew that I worked on these charity
organizations and to just ask them again
hey can you speak on Doug's behalf and I
don't know how many actually did but to
be honest with you no one else is doing
sort of self-promotion in a way that is
you know through charity networking
event or a charity event which is
essentially not working and what you're
able to do is you know build some I
guess a team that is going to look out
for you because if you don't ask them
they're they're not going to pay
attention they'll just listen to
whoever's talking the loudest but if you
have like multiple people at a high
level speaking up for you that that's
going to be super effective so let's see
here I see some comments came through so
Leo mentions I've been the level a to
level up guy and to add to that it's
easy to compare the ambitious person to
those already in the role someone one
level up isn't able to do that nor do
they have the org slots to sponsor the
promotion yes
and I haven't been the to level up guy
myself but I mean that is a great point
like they don't have the budget to do
anything oh they're just one other
person one level up and then Jay says
don't underestimate administrative
assistants treat them well and make work
friends with him they hear everything
and if they're well tenured a manager
may seek their opinion yeah and I mean
you know what to go further I mean I
would say treat everybody well it like
just be a hundred percent professional I
also mentioned like early in my career I
probably was a little rough around the
edges and it wasn't like professional or
as professional as I learned to be later
on and that is like one of the number
one things I never you know would want
anyone to say well he he's not as
professional as I hope so I just want
them to think like I have it together I
was lucky I was able to work from home
for a lot of my career I think and when
I went to the office especially you know
later when I was looking for that
promotion I was dressing you know as
they say you know dress for the job you
want so I was dressing up in a suit I
wouldn't have a tie on but
you know dress up and I would be given
the best dressed person in the meeting
did you know it was like on par with the
director level versus you know people
that were actually my level of like a
senior consultant they were just
dressing like business casual maybe they
even have jeans on or something never
did that always looked like a little bit
better than my my group so Thomas asked
in small orgs should we go three up two
levels up doesn't have the permission
add people three is also C suite if you
Thomas I think if you have the ability
to then there's no reason like not to I
mean the higher level the higher that
you can get a the higher level that you
could get up the better I mean you know
from for me it wasn't um it wasn't quite
an election you know another level up at
that point in time would have been um
you know someone out of town primarily
like in some other like large office so
I wouldn't have a very good connection
to get to them and they probably
wouldn't I would have to be doing some
pretty exceptional stuff for them to
like try to want to mentor me but yeah
to your point in small orgs or I would
say like just in general if you can do
go up as high as you can while you know
staying within reason
question though Thomas let's see here we
are in the Q&A portion so are there any
other questions or thoughts I mean like
I said this is a topic that I found a
little interesting and you know the
parts of like internet marketing that I
see is like the marketing part because
you know if you think you're just going
to show up and do your job and get
promoted like it's just not going to
work in a competitive environment
especially like a corporate political
environment where there's a lot more
going on behind the scenes then here you
might think so from you know from my
perspective when I look at you know how
I can write emails now that maybe like
get people's attention a little bit more
than a dry business email well I mean I
think if I went back to an organization
I would definitely be able to navigate a
little bit better and you should just
doing the charity event stuff I mean
being able to pull those together and
make the company look good in the
community I mean you can network you can
go for sure you can go three levels up
if you're doing networking like that so
and now that I'm now that I'm recalling
it I actually did another just
fundraising drive where I emailed it was
really an email marketing campaign I
didn't realize it at the time totally
forgot about this but you know at that
point I was able to email basically
everyone in the office and you know
follow up with them and that sort of
thing so if you look at it that way if
you're actually like you're pulling
together um even just a donation drive
type thing you can email those higher
higher level people that you know you
get nervous when you see them in the
break room kind of stuff but you can
email them and ask them to you know
donate some money and they're usually
happy to do it okay so
J asks if someone has recently or
someone has been recently promoted to a
department that you want seek them out
find out how they got the job and what
the interview was like also depending on
the organization go to a chart and speak
to the hiring rep speak seek advice yeah
dancer actually I'm gonna add that to
the list Jake that's really good cuz
that's I didn't realize what I did that
but I you know talked to a couple people
they got promoted ahead of me and you
know the most recent person said hey
here's here's sort of the formula that I
followed feel free to use some of the
same ideas which I did so alright any
other tips that I'm actually learning
I'm learning stuff myself which is good
okay then I guess also mentioned like in
a broader way is it interesting to have
this sort of like um you know corporate
world um in the webinars like I said
it's definitely a little different than
the internet marketing trying to think
you know do new and different things is
a good thing sometimes it works
sometimes it doesn't
maybe this topic isn't super interesting
to a lot of people or something like
that but just curious if anyone has
thoughts on it you don't have to mention
it in the chat if you don't want to you
can send me an email or you can put in
the chat fine with me
so okay and are there any internet
marketing questions any niche site
question or something like that I have
you know other topics to cover and I'm
going to you know start back up with the
weekly webinars
maleeh oh look it's a good comment it
just helps me stay motivated that I
never want to go back
amen to that yeah that is so true I'm
you it uh it's an environment and I
think like I'm mature now
and I've had like a couple years away
from the I've had a couple years away
from the corporate environment so I
think I could potentially put up with
some of the politics and I know what to
do now
plus some of the other things I mean if
I still have my like online income and
actually got a corporate job I mean when
you have a job I think I heard Scott
having to say something to this effect
who's the writer of the Dilbert comic
and a few other books but you said um if
you have a job you don't have to do it
makes the job so much easier
you just make decisions you don't stress
about it and you just go you finish your
day so you know maybe I mean I don't
want to get another corporate job by the
way
but if I needed to or if the opportunity
you know where maybe I could learn a lot
of stuff right that could be a reason to
get a job if I can learn some but you
not having to like do the job like not
being forced to from a money monetary
standpoint takes a lot of the pressure
away then you just act freely I think
okay um let's see here any other
questions so Thomas says it was good
especially as you're not a career
management guru oh thanks I think and
then Jay says what's your opinion of
clickfunnels do I know a good source for
a detailed checklist um for creating a
site that literally has every single
thing I keep feeling like I'm missing
things in every list I find is more
general I don't know much about
clickfunnels
other than ads that I see they do a
really good job with the ads I I want to
say I looked at it um briefly when I was
working on I think I was working on
course on private
blog networks with my friend Lewis Ogden
he and I looked at it it's fairly
expensive but I think like if you're
able to implement it in the right like
funnel which you know that you have you
know one time to test fit into that it
would be effective I think it could be a
way to make the integration of moving
through the funnel much easier so that
is an opinion of someone who's never
used click funnels by the way so I think
it can be really helpful but I don't
think it's absolutely necessary as far
as a source for a very detailed
checklist let's see when you say I guess
when you're asking J for the detailed
