email list and whether you should do it
or not for your niche or authority site

that it's working I hope that people

in the world so hopefully people can can
find this and like I said I'm going to
talk about email this building today
you'll notice I turned to my desk around
slightly actually I just moved sorry I
moved the laptop around just a little
bit so get a little different vantage
point which I think it's good I kind of
want to move locations a little bit
thought about going into the the other
room but it is good here because I'm
physically plugged in to the network
versus just Wi-Fi and I've had issues
with Wi-Fi in the past so that's why we
are plugged in and determine my laptop
around so this is pretty exciting
all right and I like I said I'm just
gonna share this around a little bit so
we can get a few people on here I hope
do a little Facebook do a little other
Facebook and a quick question for the
people that are on right now
did you I I guess you normally find out
about these live streams because you get
a notification whenever I go live is
that correct or is there some other
mechanism you're like are you segment
your watch and then you know that I'm
gonna be here just curious just curious
unless

popping on okay so you in Dennis does
setting up thrive leads for your site
what am I thought what are my thoughts
on MailChimp so yet we'll get into that
and Emile says give notification Dennis
gets a notification very cool and I'll
continue to just go sharing a couple
other areas here so hopefully I'm not a
hundred percent sure like the most
effective way for me to share this stuff
around but you know I give it a try
hopefully people will find it ok a
little slow getting started today and I
think we are good I shared it with as
many places as I think I need to for the
time being so cool we have a few folks
on if you have the opportunity yeah you
could share this around that's
particularly unlike Facebook groups and
stuff okay so I'm going to talk about
the building an email list for a niche
site or an authority site like whatever
you may call it I think technically
depending if you're if you acknowledge
the term authority site I probably have
mostly authority sites but it's all just
semantics and technically you
technically if you have an affiliate
site like it probably fits into one of
those depending on your definition so
and yeah
Dennis mentions that don't forget to

I think most people probably know that

the email list you get like fifteen
thousand keywords for niche sites you
get a bunch of other like templates and
systems and processes that I use and
have used in the past over and over
again so they're they're not just
something I put together they they all
work pretty well okay so should you
build an email list for your niche or
authority site and all sort of start
with a little story and I'll tell you
that there's a site or two that I've
worked on where actually it was a with a
friend of mine a partner a business
partner on this particular site and we
were focusing on building an email list
and offering affiliate I just trying to
sell affiliate offers for you know
physical products and info products
based on like the digital marketer type
model so if you're not familiar familiar
with digital marketer it's really all
about the lead magnet and the tripwire
and like your big core offer and they
you know have a huge business built just
around selling that information about
how to build a sales funnel more or less
and we were focusing on that area and we
actually did a pretty good job in
building the email list unfortunately we
didn't do a good job and monetizing it
so we worked for about a year on this
project and you know we didn't really
make it worthwhile like we never made
the money we thought we couldn't make
and it was really because we were
focusing on building the email list and
not selling or having like a clear
monetization approach to everything so
more or less you may be surprised by my
answer so my answers should you build an
email us for your niche
authority site probably not is the
answer so it depends though it depends
on what what you're trying to do so if
you're trying to build an Amazon
affiliate niche site like I try to do
most likely you should probably just
focus on the content and like getting
traffic to your site and then getting
people over to Amazon like that's
probably what you should do if for some
reason you happen to have a site that's
mature this is the only time where I'm
going to say like hey you should
probably build an email list if you have
a site that's mature you're getting
traffic you're actually making sales and
you get quite a bit of traffic then you
maybe you should take a look at building
an email list because you get so much
traffic even if you just capture you
know 2% of the traffic and get them to
subscribe to your email list then that's
not a bad thing you over time could
build a pretty sizable email list and
then send updated send out some offers
and you know make it profitable even
though you're focusing on the Amazon
affiliate side now the thing that is a
huge mistake and hopefully no one here
and I'll come back to the questions by
the way if you have can if you continue
to have questions you just type them in
and basically like if you have a site
and you you are you're getting like a
modest amount of traffic you know just
leave that day if you're getting a
modest amount of traffic and you're
making a modest amount of money you
should probably focus on either adding
more content or getting more like guest
posts and backlinks whatever mechanism
you're using so that you get a lot of
traffic and that you make a lot of money
whatever that means to you right but if
you're starting to focus on building the
email list before you have the traffic
in place you're probably wasting your
time like you'd be better off trying to
get like just one post on your site
ranking number one for a moderately
like a moderately search term say
the thousand to three thousand local
monthly searches
you're better off like ranking a page
number one versus like building emails
if you're trying to build an email list
and you know traffic yet you're just
fortunately you're doing some work that
makes you feel busy but it's not gonna
pay off as quickly as focusing on
something else so I imagine probably a
lot of people have questions they
disagree because everyone is everyone
tells you hey you should build an email
list like no matter you know what you're
working on you should build an email
list and so on and so forth but my
argument is if you're not in the right
place like if you don't have the
foundation yet then building an email
list a great way to get distracted and
feel very busy without actually like
getting ROI on okay now see any

the questions I got my cloth coffee mug

just set up drive leads what are my
thoughts on MailChimp I've never used it
I'm sure it's great so it might take in
general is that like hosting and your
email provider and a lot of those other
things are basically like commodities at
this point so it probably actually
doesn't matter if you sign up for like
MailChimp Aweber GetResponse
and so on like generally they have the
same functionality each of them are
gonna have like they're different flaws
you may slightly prefer the interface or
something from whichever you choose but
I've used get response in Aweber a lot I
have an account at each one for
different projects that I'm working on
and each one of them annoys me in a
different way so some are better than
others and they're all making progress
to sort of like equalize so generally it
doesn't matter what you use for an email
provider and thank you Emil and Dennis
for letting me know you get a
notification Lachey says you often miss
these because of the timing but
hopefully catch the replay and Nick does
say yes you should build an email list
for your site but of course I disagree
unless you have a bigger sites Sergey
what's up and Dennis thanks for

guess Dennis says I think adds value if
your plan is to sell the site later
bonus to have an email list okay so it's
a it's a slight bonus to have an email
this but I'll tell you if I'm buying a
site from someone and they tell me it
has I don't know ten thousand
subscribers and I would then ask well
how is it being monetized if for a buyer
right I mean a list of emails is not
that valuable unless it actually brings
it money so if you don't have the
mechanism in place the value is pretty
whoa I would say so I mean we all
believe right we all think that having
the email list could be a nice bonus is
a cool thing to have but unless you're
monetizing it then it doesn't really
matter them all that much now I don't
know how much it could be valued if
perhaps right if the buyer has another
site in that niche maybe the email list
is more valuable to them maybe they have
an FBA business and they're able to you
know push or drop shipping business or
whatever and like those leads like have
some value that that person can
understand but you know my argument is
it's not as valuable unless you can
point directly to an ROI because yeah
it's just a list of emails so okay so so
Dennis I think you have a valid point
but I would challenge would challenge
you on like how valuable it actually is
so it's a cool bonus but it's hard to
say how about you pull that is and I
think it's just one of the it's like a
common knowledge like we all think the
email list is valuable because everyone
tells us is valuable but if you're
actually trying to sell someone an email
list how much value we'll have if you
don't have like a great monetization on
the back end okay and then then says
you're trying to build a list but
conversions are so low so if you I mean
basically a lead magnet is what you need
to do and then the content grade in
general you should be able to you know
get I think the staff enough steam from
like sumo dot-com and Noah Kagan that
hole
group of folks over there the like
accepted amount of conversions for like
a general site like no other information
given but like a site you should be able
to you have traffic you should be able
to convert okay two to two-and-a-half
percent
so for every hundred visitors you should
get like to do email addresses and then
if you start adding content upgrades or
lead magnets like a lead magnet
hopefully keep the two closer like eight
or ten percent something like that if
you have like a good content upgrade
that marries well with your actual the
content on a given post so if it is you
know if I'm talking about building an
email list and then I give you a guide
on building an email list with like the
top ten tips for building an email list
you would sign up for that your
conversion rate maybe like twenty five
or thirty or forty percent maybe even
higher depending on how qualified that
traffic is so you have to you have to
give the visitors something to sign up
for the email list okay
and Nick says if you want a nice little
niche site sure you don't need one but
Amazon makes one change and you're
screwed if you have an email list you
have an asset no one can take away from
them and yeah Nick that that is what
everyone says but the problem in I'm
talking to a very specific kind of group
of people so if you're just starting
your site you should not focus on the
email list that's my blog if you are
just starting your site you need to
focus on like ten other things before
you focus on your email list I will tell
you that you know a couple data points I
have an email list that has over 10,000
people and it is pretty nice that I
could send out an email and basically
get about 500 people to like whatever
post
as long as it's you know generally
interesting I can get people over to the
post those posts can be Amazon affiliate
oriented posts and you can get some
sales from them that is cool I will also
tell you that the site that I sold for
two hundred thirty five thousand it got
a lot of traffic it made a lot of money
and it did not have an email list we
experimented just a tad to like build
the list but it turned out we were
getting fewer sales on the Amazon side
if we weren't making enough from email
that's just by default so we decided to
just focus on like one conversion which
was given people to Amazon purchase and
the other thing is Nick you're right
Amazon makes one change like they change
the Commission race in March of 2017
earlier this year and they I mean
effectively it dropped the Commission
rate by like 35% percent so that hurt a
lot I have an email list and you know it
didn't help so the problem is like if
we're building for building an email or
if we're building a site and the goal is
like the Amazon Associates Program then
you're kind of I mean you have some
flexibility right you could go to other
affiliate programs you can find other
products we could drive traffic using
the email list but like we're building a
specific model and we have a wiggle room
we have flexibility but there's only so
much you could do so again I'll stand by
my if you don't have traffic on your
site yet or you don't have much trying
to think you're not making much money
you haven't like reached the area where
you're happy with how much money you're
making from your site it's a mistake to
focus on the email list because you know
you need to focus on getting traffic
once you get traffic right then you can
build the email us but if you don't have
traffic yet
and you should focus on getting traffic
okay but Nick you're right having an
email list is awesome like for a niche
like project the email list is like the
focus it's a whole lot of business model
though so like for a niche site project
I'm selling my own products I do very a
very small amount of affiliate work and
like the email list is great because you
know one actually I don't even get that
much like Google organic traffic I don't
have a very large email list and then I
don't have to rely on an affiliate
program so I feel like more insulated
and that even though I mean my email
list is fairly small okay what Chasez up
I was always confused on how to sell
affiliate products to my email list
without them getting annoyed you know
what if people get annoyed when you try
to sell them stuff then they're the
wrong people on your list so hopefully
they will unsubscribe and then you can
get the right people on your list so I
used to feel the same way and you know
you'll notice if your hopefully on my
email list that I don't sell that much
stuff and I don't try to sell that much
stuff but when I do I sell like fairly
aggressively and I let you know about it
through many many emails let's see let's
see here okay so Dennis says took 30
minutes to set up thrive leads in
MailChimp that's great and you're only
capturing emails for now no campaigns
yeah and I would suggest Dennis so once
you start you know accumulating the
email addresses you set up like an
autoresponder so that you just get
people to go to your different posts and
start building a relationship with them
a little bit and then you know if you do
have a relationship with them it should
be easier to sell them stuff when the
time's right and by the way let's say
you wouldn't like to sell them stuff
constantly you should just do it on a
periodic basis and I would say if you
have you know
2/3 to 3/4 of just like valuable content
to them and a quarter is some sort of
sales oriented stuff that's probably
appropriate so as not to annoy people
and Nick says yeah the caveat is we're
presuming that you have a site and you
have traffic already yeah exactly
can I blame her too earlier so I'll
leave it at that

article written from I write or do I
have any experience on that never with a
writer specifically but Danish you
should go to the description below the
video there's a link there for hiring
writers and like there's about 1,500 or
2,000 words on like exactly what you're
asking about I would say of all the
places you can get content I would say
like text broker and I writer are
probably the worst places to go so go
take a look and let's see NSE Nick embed
we're talking about like a what lead
magnet to use so you know the other
thing then is like I'm not sure how much
traffic you have on your site a guy can
be fine but you know there's copy like
here's a here's one of the issues right
so if you're just trying to set up your
site I'm not assuming you are Ben but if
a person is like just trying to set up
their site like they're just learning
WordPress they're learning
keyword research all this stuff I'm
about to tell you hey your headline
matters in your copywriting matters and
maybe your guides too long or maybe it's
too short or maybe there's like so many
things that you have to work with that
like if you're trying to learn how to do
bitch site for the first time throwing
email list building which is a whole
other like entire industry I mean there
are whole courses on just building an
email list so my argument is is too much
new stuff so once you get the site with
traffic you got everything locked down
well then you can start having more
complexity like an email list so
Thrasher says I started using get
response only to find that your
autoresponder email hit spam folders
that sucks
solo ads seller confirms this so you
switch to a lever which is great in
comparison
interesting interesting so I have been
counting each one and I do have you know
never compared but they do say like some
services just have a higher delivery
rate and a person should test they
should like export out like X number of
subscribers and try to send it on a
different account a different service
provider like get response versus Aweber
to see if there's like a dramatically
dramatic difference in the delivery rate
open rate it could be you know I mean it
could change the delivery rate by twenty
five or fifty percent without be
surprising us it makes says you can
always monetize attention 10,000 email
subs that look forward to your email can
always find a yeah that's true that is
true and Dmitry says it's about the
funnel not an email list right I don't
know yeah I guess I mean I'm
interpreting what you're saying and I
guess you're saying it matters like how
you think you're gonna monetize it so I
guess yeah that's true in one yeah I
guess that is the point like you
shouldn't build an email list because
everyone tells you to build an email
list like you should have a specific
reason why and further right but
this these couple weeks have been
talking about content a lot the idea is
like each piece of content should have a
goal usually the goal is to get people
to go to Amazon buy something at least
in my model but for other people or for
other sites and maybe to get people on
to your website to read information to
sign up for your email list where you
can sell them stuff later that's a great
model a lot of science do it but you
know you gotta I mean you have to be
able to have a specific goal for each
piece of content and usually if you have
like four goals for a piece of content
or more than one and maybe isn't
targeted as well as it should be and Ben
says traffic is like 400 per day so yeah
that's a pretty good amount of traffic
like overall and I would expect that you
know depending on the goal of the
content been like some of the content if
it's just informational like that's the
perfect stuff to you know have a content
upgrade have your lead magnet so it's
related I would say don't try it like if
you have a piece of affiliate content
don't distract the person to try and get
them to sign up for your email list
there I would also say if you have like
a sidebar and you're you just have like
hey sign up for the newsletter or get
the free guide on blah blah blah
probably not that effective either I
mean people are probably trying to read
the content and then you're trying to
distract them with signing up for the
email list so I would say if you want to
build the email list if you want to be
serious about it then you do need to
have like a piece of information on
concept it's actually oriented the goal
they give them something for the email
list and then the Thrasher says do I
really trust the entire solo ads thing
yeah you know what
I don't know 100% what you're talking
about
I've heard that thrown out but I'm not
sure I'm not sure if I have the same
definition as
so I would say just as a blanket rule I
rarely in Thai I really trust a lot of
stuff and so probably not let's see you
use certain tools but you feel like
you're being stung as they unsubscribe
and it claimed that never subscribed in
the first place I am unsure what you're
talking about exactly but yeah it sounds
like I wouldn't trust it if people were
telling you that and you say or so are
you dummy solo ads beating the system
and automating opt-ins somehow you
always track and most sellers traffic
looks healthy and legit but you have a
feeling that you're being scammed
well Thrasher
again I don't have first-hand experience
with what you're talking about but I
would say if you think you're being
scammed then you probably are probably
are there's nothing else to say so yeah
if it's not working that great and you
feel like it's a scam
I mean if it's converting somehow and
you're getting an ROI on it then maybe
there's some legitimacy there but if you
feel like something doesn't feel right
there's probably something weird going
on you can't assume that your feelings
correct

in Thrasher okay Thrasher clarified it I
thought this was exactly what it was
so the solo ads are paying someone to
send your email with a squeeze page into
a segment of their list I have looked
briefly into maybe doing this I know
there's a few people that have like very
huge internet marketing email lists but
I've never actually pulled the trigger
and well Stephanie welcome back then
so I've never pulled the trigger on such
a solo and I think like for me
particularly it's like I think these
like Q&A is right like people you all
like probably watch my videos and stuff
you know who I am like this stuff works
because you guys are spending time with
me and when those solo emails would go
out like I don't know that like one solo
email would help me particularly because
I don't know who the heck I am and like
I may get a little interest but it
wouldn't be the right people so you know
I guess it depends on like like the
author Thrasher and I know certain
industries like I mean a solo ad may be
the right way to do it but I would have
wonder I would wonder Thrasher like if
you sent if you send people to and I'm
just trying to force your model until
like what I'm trying to do so maybe it
doesn't work but every that's how I'm
filtering everything like what if you
sent them to a page not where you were
trying to sell something but you and
maybe you are but maybe you're just
trying to like build the relationship
with a maybe you you know you get
traffic to your site so the the people
and it's not necessarily a squeeze page
but is something where there's a good
piece of content with a nice content
upgrade where you can get them onto your
list where you could further build a
relationship now that may not work in
your model like I said I'm just trying
to fit everything into what I do which
may be a square peg round hole situation
all right NSU Larry's on what's up cool
so I think overall I'll just do a little
summary here if there are any final
questions type them in the chat and I'll
do like quick quick answers if it's
related to email list building it'll
receive preference if it's totally
unrelated then I made just table it and
save it for next time okay
so overall should you build an email
list for your niche site probably not
like my answer is probably not you
should ask yourself if you are actually
getting a lot of traffic on your site if
you're getting a lot of traffic on your
site then and you're in your making the
money that you want to make then I would
consider I would tell you to consider
having you know an opt-in lead magnets
content upgrades that build your email
list to help just overall build a bigger
asset sue - like Dennis's point - Nick's
point like you're building a stronger
asset just in general because you'll
have an email list where you can you
know drive traffic to your site you
could send them additional offers around
the holidays you could send them to you
know specific post for you know hey
check out these you know retail season
deals on Black Friday that sort of thing
those could convert really well you
could actually drive a lot more traffic
to your site than otherwise would have
been there then you know generally what
you should look out for if you're just
starting your site if you're not at the
traffic level you want to be or if
you're not at the revenue level that you
want to be then you probably shouldn't
focus on the email list it's a huge
distraction it makes you feel busy but
you're not getting an ROI from it and
it's really hard to tie an ROI to the
email list through an affiliate model
where you're monetizing through Amazon
if you if you're using other like
specific offers and it's an affiliate
offer say for an info product Clickbank
well then that's pretty I mean that's a
clear ROI where you can understand you
publish content you publish say a
hundred pieces of content and you can
build an email list off of that some
offers later that works but if you're
looking at the Amazon affiliate model or
a similar model then you probably need
to focus on traffic and content getting
your revenue where it should
then you can focus on the email list
cool several questions in here so what
do you suggest we do once we get our
first site up and running
should we start another or slowly focus
on one wouldn't it be safer wouldn't it
be a better safety net to do more than
one I would focus on one that's just me
I think you can make more progress on
one site then say you wanted to try and
start four then you're gonna be spread
thin and for me just doing one site it
makes me happier and there are other
people that want to build a portfolio
sites and they do really well so there's
not one way to do it it's just what you
prefer as far as being safer potentially
it could be a little safer to have
multiple sites but I would say you need
to have you need to have everything
separate right so you should set up a
separate business so you can have a
separate company so you have like a
separate Amazon affiliate account
through a separate company you should
have like different hosting you should
have different like Google accounts for
your search console for your analytics
everything should be 100% separate so if
you're gonna if you're gonna try and get
safety and I guess diversify with
multiple sites and everything needs to
be a hundred percent separate and then
Paul asked I mentioned that email list
should be collected a non-official
opinion yes so I mean if you you could
collect it but right I think content
should have a single goal and Paul if if
your affiliate content if the goal is to
get people to make an affiliate purchase
then you shouldn't distract them with
email list stuff Larry says
do I get many email signups for my
YouTube videos I I don't have a I get
some but I don't have a tight tracking
mechanism Larry I try to send for a lot
of videos I try to send people to a
specific URL so I have like some idea
but it's hard for me to tell some people
just go to the home page and sign up at
that point I don't have a good tracking
so I do hear from a lot of people Larry
to say they found me on YouTube and they
later signed up on the email list and
then they told me specifically that they
watched my youtube videos so I think I
think there's a decent number world
travel says without an email list how do
you protect an affiliate site to last
for example what if Google D ranks you
for any reason so I think you're kind of
asking two questions so without an email
less how do you protect the site to last
I would say you know doing white hat
link building versus greyhound link
building add some security at least on
the front end right there the traffic
side you have a little bit less risk
than if you use grey hat links there's
always risks I think your assumption is
flawed world travel if Google doesn't
rank your site and you have an email
list it doesn't necessarily mean that
you're gonna be able to keep getting
traffic my sites like 80 to 90 percent
the traffic is like new traffic
first-time visitors so like to have an
email list is kind of cool but it's not
the same as getting you know 3,000
visitors a day that are new to your site
you can't do that with an email list
those people have already been to your
site they probably already made the
purchase which a lot of times people
don't buy like his specific product over
and over again so you know at that point
the email list is valuable
not for what you're implying based on
your question
Thrasher says as a follow-up you offer
lead magnet on the opt-in page and then
send offers and more freebies basically
because of the stigma solo ads has you
to me offer protection by tracking and
filtering bus so and I don't know what
you to me is but I don't know that it
matters that much cool it sounds like
your model is fine but yeah I mean I
guess solo ads have their flaws but if
you are able to get our own island then
I guess is helpful world travel says the
thing that concerns you about affiliate
sites is they rely on Google email is
supposed to be a solution for that but I
don't know how to implement it I don't
know either
based on what you're saying world travel
I mean like you can build a meme I mean
you have to get your traffic from
somewhere right so it sounds like you're
actually I don't want to say like you
specifically but build a site that gets
like traffic from Google like start
earning money like it sounds like you're
making an excuse before you've started I
don't want to read too much into your
question and say like you specifically
but yeah emails email lists can help you
like I guess lower the risk of like
Google issues but you have to get your
traffic from somewhere so if you get
your traffic from Google like that's a
risk point maybe you have a big Facebook
following or something Facebook they
change their algorithm and the way post
and updates were showing so a lot of
people that build their platform on
Facebook like they their reach like went
from like 98 percent like four percent
unless they ran at so there's risk there
you could buy your way out of it though
through ads so I mean I guess you have
to pick one like you have to pick
something and there of course are there
are other ways to get traffic or you're
off
like the solo ads but those have flaws
too so everything has pros and cons for
me the affiliate model and traffic from
Google well I like that so I stick with
it

that solo ads are scamming buyers even
blah blah blah okay cool yeah I'm sorry
I don't know I need this stuff you're
talking about Thrasher but I do not know
okay Paul says it makes sense as cool
world travel says it seems like an
affiliate site doesn't incorporate
repeat customers it relies on a single
yeah that's true
are there a way is there a way to get
repeat visitors coming back yeah I don't
know some other people have asked that
question before I mean the model works
fine with single buyers so the Amazon

model I would suggest you check out
something like digital marketer they
have I mean it's it's all about like the
sales funnel and building an email list
using upsells you know getting people to
buy something at a cheap price so that
they are sort of committed to your brand
I like more expensive things later and
just you know selling more stuff to the
same people so if you're more interested
in that it sounds like you are world
travel I would check out digital
marketer they have a whole course
teaching you how to do that and they
have a ton of free material for me I
don't care if I have repeat buyers it
