separate videos so the video that you're

deep today we're gonna share see guys
both of our perspectives on the
different ants the different questions
that you guys have just so that we can
serve and support you guys the best okay
so before we maybe dive into questions
how about we shares you guys a little
bit about the process of selling on
Amazon how do you sell on Amazon you
know how do you get started with it what
does it look like basically what the
process is is you first and foremost you
do research to see what's already
selling on Amazon see what has high
demand what people are buying already
Amazon and there's different tools that
can allow you to do that
jungle Scout is one of our favorite ones
that can allow you to do research on
Amazon see what's selling different
categories different price points
there's different marketplaces on the
Amazon of course as the US market on
amazon.com
there's a UK market amazon co UK there's
many different countries and platforms
that you could start selling on Amazon
and do the research for but the biggest
one is in the US and so that's where
most people start they're gonna be
researched to find potential products
that are selling there's a market
there's a demand for it it needs to
certain criteria as a product that you
could private label meaning that it's
not too heavy it's not too big it's not
gonna cost too much money there's
certain factors like that you want to
think about when choosing a product that
you're gonna sell you know from there
once you've done some research you've
identified a great product maybe it's
one you have an interest or passion for
as well which is always a plus then
you're gonna try to find manufacturers
and suppliers that are already making
that product that you can get to
manufacture the product for you so that
you can then sell that on Amazon so
you're gonna go to a website maybe like
Alibaba calm which can allow you to find
suppliers from all over the world
a very common country that people source
from is China typically typically
because it's fairly cheap and there's a
lot of great suppliers there but you
could source from the United States or
any country in the world their suppliers
everywhere you're going to negotiate
with them and have communication to find
out if they're the right supplier for
you you're gonna have them send you a
sample from different suppliers so you
can see the quality of the product and
whatnot
they're gonna work out with in ways you
might have to differentiate the product
to customize it to make a standout in
some way you're gonna get your logo
design for your your company the brand
that you want to build the packaging of
it you're gonna send out the supplier
they're gonna help you put everything
together
you're gonna then ship all the products
that you ordered with them to Amazon's
the Dillman centers okay wherever you're
selling if it's in the US then you're
going to shoot
they're either by boat or by plane
they're gonna receive the products
you're going to sit after Amazon listing
okay using Amazon seller central that's
going to have your product images or
product title the description of the
product the bullet points all that sort
of stuff for it and you're ready to go
your product that can then go live on
Amazon you could sell it you can then
market your product and promote it so
that you can reach people and get
customers and animus all its gonna pay
you based on the sales that you generate
okay so that's kind of like a simplified
version of it do you have anything to
add to it or yeah so that that is just
is how to sell on Amazon and of course
you want to build something bigger than
just Amazon in actual plans you know
this there's many different factors of
course as you can imagine to marketing
your product and selling it and whatnot
but you know just that that's the
process so with that being said now that
you guys have a general idea of how this
works how about we dive into the first
question so the first question I see
here is is it good to focus on Amazon
first or try opening your own eShop
Shopify at the same time tatiana
mentioned that sooner or later it's good
to move away from amazon towards your
own e-commerce platform where you can
build relationships with your customers
which you can't really do through amazon
when is a good time to do that okay so
that's a great question
yes i did say that in the past and you
know i first want to start off by saying
that yes you're absolutely do you want
to start on amazon amazon is an amazing
platform millions of customers who have
their credit cards attached to amazon
they love shopping on Amazon they get
prime shipping there's so many reasons
for them to be there and they're just so
used to it they like know and trust the
Amazon platform and we're fortunate
enough to be you know regular people who
are able to now start a business on
Amazon and sell products you know so
it's a great opportunity for us we've
access to those millions of customers
which we wouldn't have access to if we
were on Shopify or another platform so
that's a huge advantage because you know
you who can start your brand and you
don't
have never had a business before and so
nobody knows who what your brand is on
Amazon but as soon as you're on Amazon
you can turn on some pay-per-click ads
and then you can start getting customers
and traffic immediately on Shopify it's
a little bit harder because you have to
drive traffic to your listing you have
to drive traffic to yourself you can
just use pay-per-click ads to do that so
I think that definitely starting on
Amazon is a great opportunity you want
to start there but when should you
transition to other platforms and why
you know I would definitely suggest not
having all your eggs in one basket we
always talk about how it's great to
start an Amazon Thank You Amazon but we
don't want to rely on Amazon or depend
on them because we never really know
what could happen you know you know for
some reason sometimes the listings get
shut down accounts get banned or you
know Amazon disappears which is very
unlikely you just don't want to depend
on them too much so it's good to
diversify and so that's where Shopify
other platforms your own website will
come in but you don't want to do that
until you've established a brand
presence on Amazon and the reason I say
that is because you know for the same
reason it's because if you don't have a
brand presence then people aren't gonna
know to search for you on other
platforms so if you already have
customers you're getting regular sales
you've established your brand presence
then if someone Google's you on searches
you on Google now they're gonna see your
Shopify story or Amazon store your
website so that's why you know wait
until maybe it takes six months a year
for you to establish a brand presence
and then go to different platforms and
another reason is you don't want to
dilute your focus you know if you're on
Amazon stick to Amazon and master that
before you move on to other things we've
always talked about being a master not a
dabbler right and so it's good to
diversify but know when and master
something before you move on to the next
thing yeah nothing else will stay - I
mean it also depends if you are getting
their own traffic because if you're
getting traffic let's say you have a
YouTube channel or a blog or your
Instagram or Facebook and you're already
attracting a lot of people that first
service may be fun sending them
and said hey here's the link to my
Amazon listing go buy my product but at
a certain point if you're getting a lot
of your own sales from your own sources
of traffic like that then you might
think well hey you know what if I
actually then instead send people
instead of to Amazon but to my website
right over my Shopify store to buy my
product direct from me then I'm actually
making more money by doing it that way
because there's less fees that the
Amazon would take also you're getting
the customer email address and
information because one of the downsides
of Amazon they view them as Amazon's
customers not your customers so Amazon
they don't give you the customer email
address right they only give you the
customer mailing address and phone
numbers so they don't really want you to
then take these customers and then send
them to your own store and whatnot
because they want people to stay on
Amazon to buy more products in the
Amazon because Amazon knows that a lot
of people they don't just buy one
product on Amazon they fill out their
socking cart and then they've checked
out and they bought by many different
products so if here is starting to get
your own traffic you're starting to
build your own email list I think at
that point it can make sense and then
start sending some to to your own store
or website but there's also still some
benefit to distill sending them to
Amazon because you can get reviews from
them right and you can build up your
Amazon listing which even though you
might make a little bit less money and
whatnot long term you can build up your
Amazon listing which can help you get
more organic sales from Amazon too so I
think you're right you want to you want
to start really building up these things
simultaneously but once you get to a
point where you don't need Amazon as
much then you want to kind of like
branch off and diversify by having your
own store to this person mentioned is
building a relationship with the
customer which is super spot on when you
have your own website you have more
flexibility on Amazon you're limited to
your title your bullet points or
pictures your description and that's it
you know so on your website you can have
videos images blog you can have you know
contact us page you can have a chat box
there's a lot of ways to connect with
your customers and really build that
relationship with them so definitely
it's a better way I think for business
and for that customers experience but
Amazon is kind of the big place to start
and also Amazon you know has different
marketplaces all over the world so if
you do want to expand it's good to be on
Amazon because they make it very easy to
have your inventory and different
fulfillment centers all over the world
without you know yeah yeah yeah cool
great question
alright let's move on to the next one
some someone asks how much money do you
need to start an Amazon business in and
to see some profit okay great question
we get this one quite a bit the
recommended amount I would say that can
can help you kind of get a good starting
point would be around $1,000 I think
that's a good amount that I see a lot of
people start with and still go on to
have great success there are people that
have started with less you know you
started with less and there's there's
people that have succeeded done very
well starting with less $500 for example
but you just have to understand that if
you are going to start with less it's
just going to be harder you're gonna
have a lot less options and choices of
products that you can choose from so it
can be a little bit harder in that way
because you're gonna have less options
when you do your research for products
you might have to start with a lower
amount of the inventory to get started -
but I mean if that's all you got I
wouldn't let that stop you I've seen
people have still gone through and done
very well with that and I think you know
the first product that you started with
you didn't make a fortune from but it
allows you to get get started and if you
would send yourself Lola I don't have
more than a thousand bucks to start you
made it never started and done as well
you as you've done right so at least you
started with a product that wasn't as
ideal as you could have started with but
you started you learned you grew you
made money from that and you could use
some of that money to then invest in the
next product which might be you know a
more expensive product I've also seen
you know you can start with as much as
you want I don't think you really need
to start with much more than $5,000
there might be some except
some cases for that depending on certain
products but there's a certain point you
don't want to take too much of a risk
you don't want to put in too much it's
best to kind of maybe that thousand five
thousand dollars starting point is a
good place and again there's some
exceptions but as you get more
experienced as well that's when you can
really have the confidence to start with
products that maybe cost more work or
kind of more outside of a certain
criteria I think when you're first
starting out the most important thing is
to go through the learning curve get
your feet wet gain some experience
understand how this works make some
money right but then take that with you
maybe for the next product the product
after that where you can really crush it
and do extremely well and yeah I'm gonna
mention I actually made a video about
this the other day I have just started
with $300 but people always ask me how
did you start with that little small
amount money but that was three years
ago things are quite different now I
started with a product this is very
inexpensive but that $300 was the
initial investment that led to
everything that my business is today you
know I never took any loans and so about
$300 the profits are reinvested it
reinvested reinvested reinvested and now
my business is where it's at today so
you really can start with bare minimum
and you know if as long as you're
resourceful you know doing a lot of
things yourself I tried to do Photoshop
myself and images and all the stuff like
you don't always have to pay people to
do those things if you can do them
yourself then you can definitely do it
on a budget yeah and sometimes that's be
useful because it really helps you to be
resourceful with the money that you do
have I see people that sometimes have
too much money good problem to have but
they are not wasting it on all these
things they don't really meet so
sometimes it could be a benefit for you
we have another question here so this
one's asking how do you transition from
selling on Amazon first to have an
online store how to get your customers
to move to a different platform I feel
like Amazon would not be a fan of that
especially since you already can't get
customer emails so we kind of already
talked about this one but you know the
transition again is if you have your own
traffic your own list your own following
on social media etc the transitions per
for you just basically link and for
people to bind their product instead on
your store your own website rather than
on Amazon now if you have customers on
Amazon your goal should be to get them
on an email list to build a relationship
with them so how do you do that when the
Amazon doesn't give you the customer
email address well you want to make sure
on your product packaging when they
receive the product you you have some
sort of compelling offer for them maybe
offering them a free ebook or free video
or maybe a coupon off their next product
20% off whatever it might be on the path
product packaging or maybe a little slip
or something you throw in at the product
that tells them instructions on how to
get that which would require them to go
to a link on your website go to a
landing page put in their name and email
to receive it that way you can get your
customers on your email list once
they're on your email list and your
emailing and promoting your product to
them then you send them an email and say
hey guys we have her own website no we
have her own store you know we'll give
you a cheaper price than what's on
Amazon or whatever it is and then you
then forward people that way so that
should always be your a goal you want to
build a relationship with your customers
as early as possible because the sooner
the better right the sooner you're
building that relationship you can build
that long-term value you can make more
money repeat customers once you get
people on your email list which is why
you have to integrate that to your
product packaging that you have when
they receive the product all right here
we have how do you know if your private
label item is different enough from
competitors items to avoid legal issues
in the future so we want to be clear
that when we're saying that we private
label products on Amazon it doesn't mean
that we're copying other sellers we're
finding products that are already
selling well and we're getting the sales
history to see that to make sure so
we're not going in blindly we want to
make sure that we're finding a product
that's doing well to help make sure that
we succeed as well but what we do is we
take that product and we prove it and so
we do that by looking at customers
reviews and feedback and seeing the
negative feedback and the pause
feedback and finding ways to improve
that product and so that's basically
what you're doing and when you do that
you're differentiating in the product
but before you even do that when you are
doing your product research you have to
make sure that that product is not
there's no copyright issues it's not
patented like if it's a patented product
you're just not going to do it you know
so you won't have any legal issues if
you're just improving upon a product
that is not patented that's perfectly
fine no legal battles with that yeah and
you can do searches for that there's
people patent products in the US or
different countries so there's websites
where you can do a patent search
trademark search and you can verify that
as well as you know communicating with
suppliers
checking the products that you're
worried about if it's too similar to to
see if they have a patent they mentioned
it on their website or whatever it might
be
so that you can best avoid it okay so
here's a question how often should you
be adding products on Amazon after your
first if it isn't doing them okay great
question so here's the thing you first
have to identify it before you start
your next product why is your first
product not doing well okay if it's not
doing well there's a lot of value and
lessons there that you need to extract
before you move on to the next product
because if you don't learn the lessons
and you go on and think well it must be
the product and go on and do the next
product then what if you repeat the same
mistakes the next project this is what
do well and then you move on to the next
product the next product and you're not
really learning how to successfully sell
a product in the first place so first
eye to analyze why is your product not
selling why is it not doing well okay
first number one you'd have to look at
is if the market is that the product is
that the the niche that you've selected
okay so the demand for it is it just not
there in which case you have to do
research and look to see are there other
similar products sell are they are they
getting sales you can look at the Amazon
best seller ranking that every
tasks that will tell you give you the
data information if it's selling or not
you can look to see how many reviews
those products have as an indicator of
how much they're selling you how much
money they're making there's tools like
jungle Scout that can help you do this
research so the thing is if there's
other products that are selling that are
similar why wouldn't your product sell
that's what you have to look at maybe
there is a market demand but maybe you
just haven't done a good enough job in
marketing and selling it promoting it
maybe there's more work that you need to
do to build it up to also get into a
similar position as those other products
if there's no other product selling then
it's gonna be challenging right because
you've maybe made a mistake with the
research there's not enough demand there
for it and maybe the potential isn't
quite there that's the first place that
I would look to really look at okay next
I look at my keywords okay maybe the
keywords I picked aren't the best
keywords maybe I can change and
reoptimize my listing for many other
keywords that might be better suited for
me again jungle scout they actually have
a tool that can help you determine which
keywords people are searching for to buy
your product and product like yours to
help you optimize your listing I forget
what it's called but I did a interview
with Greg Mercer recently he shared the
software which is pretty cool for that
maybe it's also you're getting traffic
to your listing right and people are
going to it but they're just not buying
it and you got to look at your Amazon
and on Linux the stats of that to see
that to see how are people behaving when
they come to your Amazon listing so if
you have people that are going to your
listing but they're not buying it well
that's kind of that's a sign that it's
the conversions in which case we have to
improve the product images maybe you got
to test different product images maybe
you got to try changing the title the
bullet points the description maybe it's
the reviews maybe it's the price all
things that you want to you want to test
and prove optimized so that you find the
winning formula of what converts best
there's another tool called split Lee
also from great Mercer that allows you
to split test ok different images prices
titles
listing so you can find that sweet spot
of what converts best and sometimes you
make a little change by the way to your
product image or to like your price or
description and it boosts the
conversions by 10% right all those
little things those little tweaks can
make a difference if you're not getting
traffic to your Amazon listing you gotta
look at you why am I not getting traffic
okay well you're not promoting your
product enough you're not you're not
sending traffic to it you could turn on
Amazon ads maybe you got turn on
Facebook ads Instagram ads Google ads
maybe you've got to build up for social
media and funnel people maybe you've got
to do some influencer marketing but you
know if your listings not getting
traffic you can't move on to the next
product then because you don't know how
all this products really gonna sell you
you know you I think there's a
misconception people have I'm just gonna
put up a product and everything is gonna
take care of herself
no you you are the one that makes your
product work right you're the one that
has to sell the product promote the
product to really build a success Amazon
that it rewards you once you have a
selling product because they determine
this is a product that's doing well
people like it's making us money now
Amazon will promote your product they'll
recommend it next to other listings the
rank it higher but you've got to give it
that boost you can't just expect Amazon
to do everything for you so but so what
I would do I would exhaust all of that
before I think about the next product
okay make sure you optimize you get this
product to do it as well as you possibly
can if you done everything you could and
you've done it all you know analyzed it
you learn the lessons from it then now
you can move on to the next product and
take that with you so that you can have
a better successful product now if you
already have a product that's doing well
and selling successfully then you know
you can start with that next product
then to build out your brand to build
out your collection your portfolio of
product it's a smart thing you want to
do to expand your product line
especially once you have a core base of
customers that you know you launch the
next product to them they're gonna want
it you've got a great process you you
know you always ask she's got a great
Facebook group of her raving fan
