Amazon Affiliate Site Example for Passive Income-Gear Patrol-Learn Affiliate Marketing for Beginners next video#Best Education Page #Online Earning

hey what's up its Doug Cummington here

I'm from the insight project and this is

another in the series of affiliate site

teardown so the last few have not been

your you know traditional Amazon

affiliate niche site all that scenario

it's apparently but they've been a

little different so you may recall I

recently reviewed this is why I'm broke

calm if you haven't seen that video you

should check it out it's much different

than some of the other sites today we're

going to do gear patrol and it is way

different than a traditional Amazon

affiliate site you'll see why once I get

into it if you've seen the site before

which I had heard of it before I did

this teardown but I I didn't really pay

much attention about the affiliate

marketing aspect of it before you men

dig in here and there'll be a couple

sections to this this is a little bit

different than some of the others but we

always start here on each site project

which is my site I have Amazon affiliate

site examples and I go through some

critical data that helps set the stage

so we're gonna look at that first then

we'll take a look at the site gear

patrol we'll take a look at their home

page we'll look at their about page and

kind of get an idea about what's going

on behind the scenes a little bit and

you'll also be able to take a look at

other parts of their business so some of

that is around like the print magazine

that they have you'll actually see the

reviews that they have you'll see how

sparse and content those reviews are and

just the way they run their site like a

media company in a very serious way not

like the media company that is you know

around affiliate sites but they're

running it like people that really care

about the media and journalistic aspect

of it so it's pretty cool to look at it

you can see the high-quality nature of

the site alright so let's get started

gear patrol comm was founded back in

2007 so 2007 it's it's going so far back

I said the year awkwardly so 2007 in

March of 2007 the site was founded so

it's like over ten years old which is

crazy

they have about four hundred thousand

words ranking in the top 100 which is a

lot to say the least and then the

estimated number of visitors from

SEMRush is four hundred seventy thousand

similarweb says it's almost four million

so the real answer is probably somewhere

in the middle when we look at this graph

from SEMRush you can see that you know

they are trending up just in general

they haven't had any you know huge

spikes and they haven't had any major

issues or downturns and it's very

interesting you know it doesn't look

like much traffic but this was probably

tens of thousands of visitors in the

beginning but you know from 2010 to 2013

it's pretty much flat here and there was

slow growth throughout I mean that's not

necessarily slow but that is some

significant growth to get up to this

level now this graph is based on the

number of keywords that are ranking in

the top 100 versus you know any other

sources of traffic when you see the site

you'll probably notice they probably get

a decent amount of social shares and

just as viral traffic so as we go

through here you can see their domain

authority is 66 that's amaz metric

they're majestic trust flow is 51 which

is I mean both of these are very high by

the way they have an alarming number of

index pages 28900 and you know this data

could be a little old so it's probably

even more than that now we'd be

surprised if there was well over 30,000

people spend on average about two

minutes on the site about two pages in

the bounce rate is like 56 percent the

last three things that I noted there

or not you know it's not actual data

that's estimated data from similarweb so

let's head over to your patrol and take

a look at this

so first off you'll notice like this

super high quality image very very you

know just pleasing to look at right it's

it's I mean even though it's a close-up

of some some guys hands but it's a good

image high quality and it is sort of

setting the stage for the rest of the

site so let's just scroll down they have

a little note here that it continues

below so let's scroll down this is quite

a long page but let's take a look at it

here so they have a like a banner and

right here so this looks like a straight

up like you know you know from co-op

cycles and actually I did not click this

before but let's take a chance I'm gonna

but open it in a new window see what

happens okay

that didn't work so let's just try and

click it trust did they haven't set up

right okay so it's an affiliate link for

REI this is an outdoor company here in

the US there's actually one that I could

walk to so I didn't realize co-op cycles

was co-op from REI so anyway this is an

REI ad and it's in a you know it's the

first thing you see as soon as you start

scrolling down so as we scroll down you

see they they link to several of their

you know popular items here they have

another banner here that you know

there's a lot of white space I really

really like this design and there's cool

like what's going on today so each day

they have a post and which we'll take a

look at in a second they have some

seasonal stuff so slip-on shoes for

summer

and you know they have some more review

legs here so 23 best pens for the home

and office actually that sounds

interesting I'm kind of getting into

writing utensils these days so I'll

check that out and online are sorry

mail-order beef companies so that they

hit a lot of different areas they have

watches okay so there's another ad

banner here and you know it almost fits

in with the other I mean it's the same

size as their images here and you know

there's smaller sizes here and this is

like a larger banner to fit in this

section but it's all you know

aesthetically pleasing these are

actually sponsored stories here so I

didn't notice that before but these are

sponsored stories so you know they are

selling something and this is a sponsor

section so they're clearly calling it

out although it blends in sodium while I

didn't even notice that's a great look

at porterhouse steak right there - look

at that

okay so moving on here that more watches

they have the slip on shoes so they're

trying to push that you'll notice this

and this were linked to multiple times

here so there's the shoes and then the

other was the slip on I thought the

other one was linked somewhere oh they

today in gear so like I said we'll take

a look at that so as we're going down

you'll see they just have many different

items you know outdoor stuff Bluetooth

speakers they have cars and you know

from what a you know it looks like it's

some male demographic they're going

after just from the items that they have

on here in the way it's listed so here

they have an email list they have 60,000

subscribers as they note and I will

point out that they do have a pop up

here so

I was actually you know taking a look at

this site ahead of time and they have a

pop-up here once you scroll down a

certain amount so they you know they

darken everything and they really want

you to sign up so you know I would think

they would have more than 60,000 but

maybe they keep their list pretty tight

and clean and that sort of thing but the

60,000 is awesome but you know just it's

such a huge site I thought maybe it

would be more so they have a pop-up here

and they have this email opt-in section

here so again like everything it blends

in really well there's no you know

clashing colors this orange is the main

call-out and it's a little bit shaded

but you know the orange is a little bit

different there's not much orange in the

navigation throughout so as we're

scrolling down sorry for the speed there

but we see this

REI bike banner the coop cycles again so

that's probably like the fifth time we

seen it you'll remember this link from

above or the image from above okay so on

and on and on him we're almost to the

bottom of the page

oh so today gear the 21st so they do

have the today in gear all the time and

as we're scrolling down oh that's a cool

picture so you dream dream outdoor

adventure vacations okay and one last

favor you've got a next post or previous

post and there's a navigation section

down here so let's move on to this about

page so I'm not going to make you watch

the video here but you'll see I'll just

go back to the home page here so here's

the home page navigation when you go to

the about page

you'll see they kind of change up the

navigation a little bit they have the

video here as the you know showcasing

the content they have a in a pretty

tight lean category setting up here her

section up here for the menu and I

really like their logo which is just the

name in a font and they have their

orange highlight color that's pretty

much it right they don't have any cute

images no you know cheap Fiverr banners

the thing is simplicity looks really

good and this looks clean it's a white

background with black or very dark grey

text and it's awesome they have a link

over here to their Facebook page and

their Twitter page it's interesting they

don't have their Instagram up here I

would think that would be you know

prominent thing to display in their menu

so like I said I won't make you watch

the video here but essentially it is an

award-winning digital social and print

publication that reaches 2 million young

affluent men and so on and so forth now

it was founded in 2007 they list digital

first so you know they were a website

first and as you go through here you'll

see there's the editor in chief and

founder Eric yang and then the managing

editor and co-founder has been Bowers

and then check out the staff that they

have here so I didn't count it all of

them but I mean that's probably close to

20 25 people Oh actually must be around

30 when you add these directors in so I

mean this is a you know big probably you

know multi-million dollar company when

you consider the number of people that

they have on staff and the amount of you

know just reach that they have so you

know there must be about 30 people they

have

an office in New York which they noted

here independently published in New York

and as we go through here you can see

that you can advertise there's

Corrections there's a work with us

section which is actually a job jobs

listings so the thing that you can also

see because you can advertise here you

can see you know how much traffic they

actually get so this is one of the rare

cases where we actually can like verify

how much traffic so they say they get

2.1 million uniques which like i said

SEMRush and similarweb are both off but

the truth is somewhere in the middle so

when we go a little further we see it's

6 million pageviews so that's pretty

interesting and that's unique visitors 2

million unique visitors and as we go

through here we can see there's a huge

following there's a lot of people

following this site and they go they

break it down into the demographics

which is pretty cool and I mean there's

tons of insight that they give you just

in the small section here you can see

all the awards that they've won so I

mean this is a serious media company

right they're doing an excellent job and

they probably have you know hundreds of

years of experience through all of their

team here ok so they do have Amazon

affiliate links so let's get to some of

those I will point out before we get to

that they do have a magazine nowadays so

there's the link there was a link

somewhere oh we're in the store now but

if you look up here you can click on the

magazine to see the subscription

information and then you can see here

you can you know click through a super

high quality I mean great images looks

beautiful you know I haven't seen one of

the magazine

but it looks super nice and just bright

and makes me want to like sign up right

now it's only 40 bucks a month

apparently with free shipping so when

other thing just to like emphasize the

fact of like how high-quality it is I'm

gonna just play in this videos only 20

seconds I'm gonna go ahead and play it I

think you should be able to get the

audio and everything cool so it makes me

want to like get the magazine pretty

awesome and it's just that's how

high-quality the magazine is and your

website follows suit so it looks like

they only have like three issues out at

this point so I clicked on the the tech

section and there are you know tons of

items they stick with you know the REI

banner they have you know some cool

products here that 20 gadgets every man

should own compact travel cameras and so

on what we're gonna take a look at for

the reviews are gonna be the 11 great

waterproof Bluetooth speakers for summer

right so if you were a keyword junkie

you'll notice that this is probably a

great longtail keyword I would usually

substitute in like best instead of great

but best waterproof Bluetooth speakers

for summer sounds like a great longtail

keyword they have a you know big

high-res beautiful image here lots of

color and they show you know they're

actually I don't know if this is a stock

photo from Sony but you know there's a

it's in water right I believe that it's

waterproof because there's so much of

water around it they mentioned that they

have updated the guy for 2017 and here's

one thing you're gonna notice with gear

Patrol so they do a really good job

on the site it's designed really well

and they have all sorts of content there

were adventure stories I looked like

there were sort of long-form articles

and stuff but a lot of the actual

reviews kind of short winded not all of

them but you'll see what I mean so they

give you a little intro and then they

get into it so you'll notice simple

design they kind of have a one column

layout here so that the content is front

and center they have you know the title

of the or the name of the product this

excuse me this I believe will link to

Amazon in here so if I click on this

actually won't click on it just yet but

basically what you'll see is a very

short couple sentence review and then

the Amazon link right so you have the

Amazon link right here and if you click

on the image that's an Amazon link too

so you'll you'll see it's very simple

big high quality image that goes to

Amazon then you have an Amazon link here

on the button there's no text links here

only on the image and then again on the

button this is actually like the longest

the longest review on the page it looks

like so we'll scroll down and you'll

notice the same pattern over and over

again some pretty cool items here they

do list the price so that tells me they

have the IPS the Amazon API running in

the background and pulling the most

accurate data as we get down to the

bottom here you'll see there's an ad

banner here and then they have some

sponsored content which is through the

Outbrain company and then they you know

send you to other products and other

pages on their site

so the one other thing before we take a

look at the best pens for the home and

office let's take a look at the today in

gear for April 24th 2017 so we got our

banner up top we have our menu and

navigation here then we have you know

cool image this is some crazy-looking

bike and let's see pretty light on text

is normal and then they get into the

gear so here's a book

this goes to Amazon here and then they

have their button and then they have in

stewpot ultra and this actually links to

their review of this item and then you

know this button goes to it rest assured

that the you know the item or sorry the

story husband tables on links they're

actually just for fun we got time right

we have time so let's take a look at

that one too they have maple syrup

listed so you know this is a different

company here they have an affiliate

program with by you know if if they have

the traffic they can work out deals

however they like so this goes to some

other affiliate program luggage oh yeah

here's this crazy bike the air free

bicycle tire concept so that's kind of

cool and then they have some cookware

they have a thermometer and so on so

there's actually two pages of this but I

think you get the idea

so I'm gonna close up some tabs here

keep me focused up I'll get too

distracted okay we're really narrowing

it down okay so here's the insta pot so

like I said I'm pretty sure this could

be in longer with you so they have big

beautiful image bright really really

good photography that their ad banner

over here they

have the insta pot they actually have an

external link here this goes to business

wire and it looks like some news story

they talk about some other items on

their own site they link to the insta

pot website here and they do allow you

to buy it this is not an amazon link

though it goes to another company called

sir Lata table or acerola table if

you're from the South like I am and

short review right so they just have a

bunch of links to all these other things

so it's kind of kind of crazy right they

could have a super long-form review on

this but they have like two paragraphs

so they're gonna writing a whole bunch

here very interesting okay let's look at

one more review that they have here so

this is the 23 pens and you'll see the

Hat

a pop up came showed up here after I was

on the page for a while

for my email address so I'll close that

up

so we see here that we have our

navigation up here we don't see the big

banner yet so and some of this screens

some of the pages they add a banner

closer to the top it would be surprised

if we see a few more down below again

high quality beautiful image and you

know they're displaying this

cool-looking metal pen yeah looks pretty

neat and as we're scrolling down best

pens for your EDC everyday carry they

have nice little intro a little bit

about office stuff these are other links

to gear patrol stories and they have

more links over here on the sidebar they

don't jump out to my chunks

kind of surprised like there's nothing

here I'm surprised there's no had banner

so I wonder if that is they are to hold

an ad banner but they just didn't have

it listed or they don't have it in there

so they talked about fine writing

utensils and we're going down further

okay so now they get into it so they

talk about these specific pens again

really short on the copy like alarmingly

short so I'm surprised they don't put a

little bit into it but it's a little

strange I mean I would think they would

add just a little bit more there is such

an opportunity but as we see here you

could buy these pens from different

places in fact these are not Amazon

links so okay so here we're getting it

for the everyday carry don't lend them

out you know these are good pens don't

give them away so here's a fountain pen

this is an Amazon link just out of

curiosity I wonder where these go to so

oh this one is Amazon but the other one

wasn't yeah this one's not comes on

let's just see where it goes so it's a

Japanese made pen I guess it's just a

specific company I don't want to sign up

for that interesting interesting so it's

made in Japan and cool like a pen okay

so as we're scrolling down we see just

cool pictures right it makes you wanna

buy some pens let's see if there's

anything else interesting again we have

sponsored content recommended by

Outbrain so if you watched one of the

other videos you may have seen this ad

before I was looking for printer

cartridges turned out I just bought a

new printer because the old printer was

at least a decade old and it was time to

upgrade so this ad is following me

around as we scroll down you can see you

know they send it to other posts on the

site and just more story so we'll note

we're noting that you know the ten great

slip-on shoes and then the today in gear

so it's the same sort of you know

navigation they're just trying to keep

you on the site overall this page it was

interesting there weren't any other

there weren't any other like banner ads

and if you recall so let's let's back up

I just realize this myself but if you

recall this article was actually a

sponsored post so that must be why

there's no other ads on it

so we'll have to find that section which

I can't to get to it now hopefully don't

come up soon oh here we go

so sponsored stories so I'm not a

hundred percent sure who sponsored this

other than the fact that there's some

Amazon links and yeah very strange I'm

not so it's a sponsored story and they

don't have any other ads in it so it

must be if it's a sponsored story they

don't sell out at so let's just test the

theory will open up this five best basic

t-shirts for men it sounds like a

keyword to me so okay the Theory's wrong

so here is a banner at the top and it's

supposed to be a you know sponsored

story oh and like I mentioned I thought

this may be a place where they put an ad

banner in which there's not one here on

the Pens but there is one of the

t-shirts so the space is there in

you could tell that they may have won

there sometimes I don't know why I

didn't show up here it didn't serve I'll

refresh it and see what happens okay so

for some reason there's not an ad there

and then you'll see they have t-shirt by

j.crew and just different companies so

this one must be sponsored by mr. Porter

and interesting so again here's the ad

banner for some other tactical gear the

Outbrain stuff so okay I think I'm going

in circles at this point if you enjoyed
