Create Amazon Affiliate Niche or Authority Websites That Make $1,000/Mon (passive income)

hey it's duck Huntington and welcome to
this video about niche sites
I'm from the itch site project and
you're watching this because you're
probably interested in starting an
Amazon affiliate niche site and I'm
going to tell you about the four main
phases to get that done
all right so before we get to the four
phases I do want to tell you about three
examples of people who are doing really
well with Amazon affiliate sites so the
first one is Dave Fox and he's a
musician out of Canada and he built a
couple sites a few years ago and they
didn't really take off he maybe got a
little traffic but didn't really connect
the dots on hitting it big well in the
last few months here in 2016
he's been making about $5,000 a month
which is huge for him it basically
replaced his full-time income there so
next person number two is Josh Sjogren's
and he is a college student right now he
is 20 years old he's a sophomore in I
think East Washington or West Washington
University and basically he got started
building sites when he was you know
teenager 15 years old or so and he was
able to you know keep iterating on the
process and when I first met him he was
19 he created a niche site from scratch
and basically made about $16,000 in that
year close to 17 actually in that year
that I met him and most recently he's
actually created a site he sold it for
about 35,000 and he's just 20 years old
crazy I couldn't imagine doing that when
I was you know a sophomore sophomore in
college third example before we get to
it is Rob Atkinson he was in corporate
accounting good friend of mine now we're
actually a mastermind group together and
he built a couple sites that were doing
okay you know they made some extra money
for him but he really didn't hit it big
and he was sort of going through some
transitions in his life and basically
his sites that were doing okay were hit
with a Google penalty which was you know
devastating to say the least his income
went from you know several thousand a
month to zero and thing is is
transitions I was talking about were
related to him becoming like a full-time
digital
nomads he actually got married moved to
Thailand with his wife and he kind of
had to make it work so he got back on
the horse I actually worked with him
some to help him implement some systems
essentially we you know put together
some templates and processes that he
could sort of recreate these sites over
and over again and currently he's making
fifteen plus thousand per month it may
actually be closer to twenty at this
point since he's approaching the retail
season with his sites so the point is
this kind of stuff is real right so
there are actual people making money on
Amazon affiliate sites now the best part
of this is they don't necessarily have
any you know background web design maybe
they're not a natural marketer or
anything like that they're not search
engine wizards or you know experts in
their particular niche topic so it's
very interesting how you know people
from different walks of life different
ages are able to put this all together
the thing is they're basically just
regular people who put the time in and
they stop trading time for money which
is kind of what we all want to do get
some coffee here and the thing is you'll
run across some of you sort of get rich
quick schemes and this is not one of
them this is actually sort of a long
term process so if you're looking for
something quick or you need some money
to pay rent probably go maybe get a job
go take a ditch go do something like
that but if you're looking for you know
long-term asset and sort of a change to
your lifestyle then you're probably
going to be interested in the four steps
that we're going to get to in a minute
now I just want to point out this isn't
necessarily easy and it is a long term
process is actually kind of like
marathon where almost anyone can
actually run a marathon participate in
what it's all about actually you're
doing the training following the
schedule and doing the work that you say
you're going to do so it's actually kind
of close to passive income it's all the
just a little different and all the work
sort of front-loaded so once you have
everything set up you may only spend you
know one to two hours per week on
average to keep a site you know sort of
up to speed and make sure you know you
got your updates done as far as plugins
and say WordPress comes out with a new
version or something like that
so anyway basically I'm going to get
into the four steps now before I get
into that I know a few people before we
even get started like this is totally
focused on Amazon affiliate sighs and I
know a few people may be thinking about
absence or maybe there's some Clickbank
products that you're interested in or
just you know there's dozens of other
affiliate programs out there this is
only focused on Amazon affiliate program
now you can sprinkle in some of the
others once your site is established you
have traffic and that sort of thing but
off the bat we're just looking Amazon
and there's a few reasons I won't go to
too deep but Amazon tel sells a ton of
products and they're able to just
convert an upsell and you know Amazon
Prime is huge we have a Prime membership
here so you order something you could
have it in two days during a Hub City
you can get those products in like a day
or that evening I've actually ordered
something and got it before like 9:00
p.m. that night which is crazy so okay
so let's get into it
so here's a bottom line creating an
Amazon filling a niche site is probably
the best way to get started online the
startup costs are practically nothing
generally anyone can do it and you can
get started this week so here's an
overview of the process its four steps
at a pretty high level so first you
select your niche and second you're
going to set up your site third your
publish content and fourth you're going
to
promote your site and get traffic to
your site now going back to the
beginning you do need to find a niche
you're going to have to do keyword
research and analyze the competition
thing is you want to make sure you could
actually rank for these terms otherwise
new traffic will make it to your site
then you'll need hosting a domain you
have to set up WordPress and once that
is in place you'll be able to publish
content and instruct your promotion
thing is once you start publishing
content you need to go and get some
links that'll help you rank higher in
Google and then you basically do it
again so you know when I say do it again
I mean publish more content to get more
links you can sort of repeat the process
on your you know or initial site or you
can build other sites if you want to
it's a whole other debate so I won't
even get to it here keep in mind these
four steps they're pretty simplified
this is high level and it just gives you
a taste of what's going on we'll go a
little deeper in a minute sort of divide
it down so are you ready to see what it
actually takes
I broke the four steps down a little bit
further and basically I've taken these
steps and turned them into you know a
little bit more of like subtasks and
these are still sort of phases but it
sort of comes from my project management
background I'm a project management
professional and a lot of that sort of
internalized where there's these big
huge complex projects that take a very
long time to execute and finish and in
order to be able to do it you have to
break it down into sort of day by day
steps and that's what I've done sort of
I've only broken it down into a few more
steps but we'll go a little deeper right
now so you do select your niche or your
market and then you're going to build
out the website after that you'll need
to come up with a Content plan and then
build out the backlinks now outreach and
promotion is a little bit deeper as far
as building the backlinks it's more
networking and that sort of thing and
then you're going to grow the site the
growth of the site could be you know
adding more content it could be
improving the existing content and it
could be you know adding more products
or just expanding the site in general
okay now step one is selecting your
niche and this is really kind of the
most important phase of the process well
really every part of the phase is really
important but this first one is sort of
you know it sets the stage for the whole
site and the thing is you want to pick a
niche the targets group of willing
buyers so I like to say you need to
intercept a customer on the way to make
a purchase on Amazon that's sort of mine
like guiding compass through this whole
thing when people visit your website
you'll they'll be buying something no
matter what like that's the goal so you
just need to help them make a decision
on what they want to buy you need to
determine three things to confidently
create a niche site monetize with Amazon
so are their products available on
Amazon for the niche is the niche
big enough and is the competition level
acceptable so I think if you just think
about those a little bit deeper you'll
understand that each piece is critical
when you select your niche the first
one's easy you can just head over to
Amazon and check out the products that
they have you'd search for things in
that particular niche easy enough to see
the second is a little more involved and
you'll need to determine if the niche is
big enough this is all around sort of
keyword research and finding out how
many times a particular term is searched
for you can use different tools like the
keyword planner although the amount of
information can get from the keyword
planner is sort of ensure now there's
other tools like the keyword finder
longtail Pro and there's you know dozens
of others what you do need to look for
are a certain number of searches so I'd
like to look at I'm going to give a wide
range here because we're encompassing a
whole lot of information but the number
of searches somewhere between five
hundred and ten thousand I really don't
like to go over ten thousand because it
becomes you know overly competitive it
takes a pretty long time to rank for
those those are long term goals but you
could look at those you do want to also
look for you know other niche sites in
the top 25 results in Google you want
there to be active blogs in the niche
Facebook pages forums you know YouTube
activity Pinterest boards and all that
sort of stuff so if there are many
different areas where people are
interacting online in that niche then
that's a good one so the last one is
sort of gauging the competition level
and that's kind of something you have to
develop an intuition about and that only
comes through experience and looking at
the competition so each niche is a
little different in that Google treats
it a little bit differently so some
markets are like so profitable that
they're really really competitive like
website hosting or like real estate or
something like that
big industries that have a lot of money
credit cards is another one so you'll
want to consider the first page of
results in Google for your primary
keyword
or keywords in most cases and you really
just need to focus on the top ten you
can go outside that but the top ten will
give you a really good idea about what's
going on so in the top ten results
you'll want to look for keywords in the
title of the page you'll want to look
for keywords in the URL of that page you
look for basically three results or more
with less than 40 backlinks in the top
ten you'll also look for three or more
results with a page Authority that's a
Moz metric of less than thirty so PA
less than thirty is great you want to
look for three or more you also want to
see at least one niche site in the top
ten and one or more forum post another
the forum posts are a little optional
but you do want to see a niche site in
the top ten you don't see any niche side
to tell you it's probably not profitable
or it's really hard to rank a niche site
in the top ten so that is picking a
niche now step two is building out the
site and luckily that portion is pretty
much straight forward so it's not an art
like picking a niche it's more like you
need to you know get a domain name you
need to find web hosting you need to
pick a theme so I like to just kind of
make it really simple I don't get fancy
on the themes pretty much use the same
ones all over the place and I don't like
to get a theme with too many options or
anything confusing I just want the theme
to stay out of the way I think that's a
good way to look at it and honestly most
of the time the theme is not going to
like make your core break your site it's
everything else so you can spend some
time on the theme but I wouldn't spend
too much moving on to step three the
content for the Amazon site and I'm
gonna get some coffee here so if you
remember back our goal overall is to
intercept a customer on the way to
Amazon so keep that in mind throughout
this section of content so here are the
three steps of content and it's pretty
straightforward as you can imagine so
you need to figure out
topics that you want to cover you'll
need to write the content or outsource
it and then publish the content pretty
straightforward yeah what do you write
about that's a good question and if you
don't know much about the topic you're
gonna have to sort of dig deep now it
isn't too difficult once we break it
down but if you don't know much about
the topic then I'm going to say you need
to spend like two or three hours
researching or deadshot like Wikipedia
other websites check out some forums
watch youtube videos and you spend a
little time researching the topic then
you're going to be an expert compared to
like 90% of the world like most people
don't spend time on a particular topic
so if you just put a little research
time in you're going to be good to go
now one key thing to keep in mind is you
want 50% of your content to be sort of
product reviews to intercept those
would-be buyers on the way to Amazon and
the other 50% should be sort of helpful
information or content where it doesn't
really push a particular product now
going back to the affiliate minded stuff
those are product reviews now this
portion of the content basically
reassures the visitor that they're
making a wise decision on purchasing a
particular product now you don't have to
say every products great in fact you
should be honest in your reviews and say
some products are good some products are
bad and that that will actually add more
credibility to reviews now if you don't
own the product and you can't physically
hold it and test it then there's a few
things you can do to make it easier so
you can read the product description on
Amazon and the manufacturers site often
the manufacturers site will have you
know great information like the user's
manual and stuff like that so you can
get like dozens of pages of great
information about the product you can
also read some reviews on Amazon's sorry
read some reviews on Amazon and I like
to check out you know a wide range of
the reviews so some five stars one star
some in the middle you know you don't
want to just focus on all positive stuff
you want to actual
make some good points and it turns out
it'll give you more to write about so
other areas to do research would be like
forum post and that's a great place to
see where people ask questions you can
get the actual phrasing that they use
for questions which is a great way to
build out your site I like to put those
sort of like it's a subheading like an
h3 tag or something and using those
strategies you'll basically be able to
get the tech specs for all the product
details you'll have real owners
providing their feedback and basically
you'll be able to see what people
thought of the product which is exactly
what you want to do now like I said the
other 50% of the content should be
general topics in the niche it is super
easy to find popular topics so you can
just go to blogs in the niche see what
they're publishing go to something like
BuzzFeed and you can search for
different topics there should get plenty
of ideas you'll be able to put together
informational and helpful content in the
niche that people would find interesting
so that is it for the content area now
the link building is the next step and I
think we're on three or four when I add
of different steps I kind of lost track
there but basically if you can
understand how to execute the link
building step you're going to be so far
ahead of most of your competitors that
you're gonna do fine so there's a lot of
noise out there about link building and
there's a lot of sort of Internet age
snake oil salesmen that will promise you
they'll rank you number one 24 hours and
then they'll disappear you know the
approach that I outline there's no
shortcuts so this actually takes a lot
of time you're gonna have to put work in
and it's actually a good thing because
it's a barrier to entry so not
everyone's going to be able to put in
the time so that means if you can and
you put in the effort then you should be
able to do a pretty damn good job here
so you can outsource the link building
but it's really important to understand
the
firsthand you can't really outsource
anything effectively unless you really
understand the process and how to do it
yourself so a very basic link building
campaign in sort of the first two steps
that you're going to want to do
that'll be blog commenting in social
profiles so let's get into the blog
commenting first now after I publish
like one or two articles like Beth said
just one or two articles then it's time
to start blog commenting so these are
genuine real comments Oh sounds like
foods ready
those are Jeff generally real comments
on real blogs and they're related to the
topic and niche so the target blogs are
highly relevant and that's really
important these aren't spammy like
automated links or anything we don't
want any of those so I want to point out
probably a few people are thinking hey
blog comments are nofollow and that's
cool that's fine with me
it's actually really normal for a
website to have a healthy percentage of
nofollow links and the other thing is
it's normal for bloggers to go comment
participate on other people's blogs so
it turns out it's a really natural thing
to do and there's nothing wrong with
having nofollow links actually will come
into play later and it's really
important to have these relationships
here so what I like to do is make five
to ten blog comments every day for like
a month not all the blog comments are
going to be approved so you do need to
make a lot of these comments once you
get into the swing of it your five to
ten should only take you like 15 minutes
per day which is not much the thing is
if you do it for 30 days well that's a
lot of links and once you get that in
place you don't have to do them again I
mean you can you can keep going with it
but you don't have to so after you have
a bunch of blog comments out there going
to create some social profiles and these
are like your Facebook and Pinterest
Twitter there's a bunch of other social
network so you can you know hop on to
now it doesn't mean you have
to be active in those networks I'm
actually not a big social person myself
or social media person myself but if you
just create the account create the
profile and add your backlink to that
profile that'll be you know some nice
positive another nofollow link but it
does sort of help you network within
niche that's really important all right
so next is outreach and promotion and I
don't remember which step that were on
here but whenever you do publish new
content you should let your followers
know right so on social media you could
share it maybe you could ping a couple
people directly on Twitter basically you
can drive early traffic to your site
that way oftentimes it's not going to be
a huge amount of traffic but it's good
for Google to see that you know traffic
is coming through social channels and if
you actually network effectively you
share other people's stuff and maybe you
link to them every now and then then
influencers may share your stuff maybe
they'll link to you as well so it's
really about relationship building like
many other things in your business so
the next part that I want to talk about
is guest posting now this is more
advanced and it definitely takes longer
but it's so much more effective and the
reason why is these are going to be a do
follow links and most likely you're
going to have to you know cut your teeth
on Twitter and Facebook networking and
you're going to do those blog comments
or you're going to have some people do
you have some hopefully positive
relationship with and you'll be able to
ask them for guest posts on their blog
now that all of your content on your
site is going to be worthy of you know
getting these backlinks from guest posts
now you need to keep that in mind
so you don't necessarily want to go and
promote some of your content that isn't
that great now let's say you created
some huge epic post and it's not a
product review that's kind of
and it requires it kind of requires that
because most of the time it's going to
be a little hard to put in the link in
your guest post back to you know purely
affiliate product page so this kind of
content that you want to get the links
to in these guest posts it's going to be
like a definitive guide for something
really awesome in your niche and you
really want to try and create something
that is like the best resource in your
niche and then you're going to be
confident when you go out and approach
people to do these guest posts now you
want links to go to your definitive god
now the steps aren't too hard to
understand but the execution does
require focus yeah you'll reach out to
the bloggers you've connected with
Allred and guess what you did that when
you were commenting on their blog now
not not that many people comment on
blogs depends on blog but not that many
people comment on blogs so you can be
sure that the blogger will probably
remember you if you comment on their
blog a couple times so that's a really
great way to sort of break the ice make
sure you're going to be able to network
with those folks effectively and then
ask for the guest post when the time's
right alright moving on to continuing to
grow at your site some people may call
this an authority site but you know for
now we'll just say it's a big itch site
or whatever and if you really want to
grow your niche site quickly you're
going to need to realign your goals in
the process so you'll need to add
content faster and you'll need to get
more guest posts and basically you know
it's a little hard to write so many
thousands of words per day so at some
point you would need to outsource the
writing but you can technically grow a
site pretty fast if you have you know
people writing for you and you can
effectively do outreach so I do want to
point out Authority side so what is an
authority site and basically your
actions are going to change if you are
trying to go to an authority site now I
will say that you know the term
authority site is a little ambiguous
kind of like a niche
so an authority site is not something
that we all are talking about the same
thing when we say the word authority
site so an authority site by one
definition anyway has sort of like a
loyal reader base and it's kind of due
to the high quality of the content and a
really nice user experience now if you
want to move to an authority site it's
really just a niche site that sort of
grown up so once you have your site in
place it's making a little money you can
maybe get a better looking theme or do
some sort of custom you know design on
it if you wanted to to make it look more
unique you can also improve the content
there or add more content just in
general and publish a lot more articles
so the thing is when you transition a
niche site to an authority site you
wanted to have plenty of traffic and you
want the revenue to be at a level where
the cost of moving over to an authority
site are just paid for by the
reinvestment of your revenue
so you're just reinvesting in the site
you made me bigger and the reinvestment
is usually in the form of high quality
content actual products in inventory or
maybe a stronger marketing campaign or
any combination of the three they're all
required after a certain point you'll
need to you know invest in different
areas so that encompasses I believe the
seven steps that I covered for then
seven again but the main thing you need
to do is take action so the niche site
process is all about building an
unstoppable niche site by helping
visitors make a decision whether they're
about to buy something it's the exact
process that I use for every site I
coach a lot of people this is the same
process but I help them navigate and you
know the thing is if you try to do this
without a process it's super frustrating
and you're probably frustrated because
you didn't have a system in place I know
that when I first got started I was sort
of
following several people was really hard
to figure out what to do I would do like
five different things and nothing would
work and then I would I wouldn't know
what to do next because I wasn't
following like one single plan turns out
there are a lot of different planes you
can follow but it's really important
just to pick one right so I know there
are other ways to do things the niche
site process is not the only way but
it's important that you pick one and
then do that one so we'll just do a
quick overview so you do need to think
about your keyword research niche
selection you need to analyze the
competition you need to publish content
you need to get backlinks and you need
to go out there and promote the site
network within your niche so basically
that's it in a nutshell and if you want
to get more information you can go to my
site niche site project I actually have
examples like a lot of examples for you
know successful Amazon affiliate sites I
also have roughly 15,000 keywords you
can get from those example sites for
free all you have to do is sign up and
it's pretty easy to figure out how to do
that and you can just get those 15,000
keywords and you'll be able to see what
other sites are ranking for and you'll
be able to sort of backtrack and reverse
engineer what they're doing so anyway if
you enjoyed this I surely hope you'll
check out niche site project thanks
