Project Go White Hat Workflowy - Writing a Blog Post -VLOG

all right over here trying to work a bit
and I guess you could see what a mess my
desk is so I'm not really that clean and
organizers thought of posting their
little little things that I was looking
at but here's the deal I'm writing an
update for the project or white hat post
actually it's a series of post so if
you're not familiar with it it's I'm
working on selling a site with a
business partner of mine brought
Atkinson who has worked with me in the
past on various projects one of which
was like his coaching I use workflowy
for certain times when I'm outlining or
drafting workflowy an outlining app I
couldn't remember exactly what it
covered in the series in its eight parts
right now and I'm probably going to add
four more you'll notice if you take a
look which please do take a look at
niche site project element I'll put a
link below but essentially I wrote it so
that I introduce a few problems in each
of the posts and I only resolved a few
of them so at the end of each post
there's always like a cliffhanger or
something that I do not resolve it's an
open loop and it was like right after I
watched Breaking Bad the TV series and I
was like hey it's great I want to watch
all these episodes and it's really cool
they introduced some issues and then
family resolved a portion of them so I
did that in this series of posts now the
thing is has been a long project in fact
I started Rob and I started
conversations almost a year ago and then
finally started working together like
ten months ago right now we are towards
the end and that means I have more stuff
to add in however I don't recall what
was in the last few posts so I'll be
able to go over to workflowy see what's
finished see what story I want to tell
and then basically I'll I'll sketch it
out on a notepad oh it's going to pull
off just
a legal pad I'll review the stuff that I
actually want to cover after I figure
out where I'm at and then I'll have
really I'll have the exact things that
happen in chronological order which I'll
sketch out on my notepad and then I'll
figure out how I want to divide that
work not work but how I want to divide
that storyline into the next four
editions of the of the series so in the
end it'll end up being twelve I think
yeah twelve a twelve part series that
basically flows like a story in each
time you read one of the post I hope
that you're you're engaged to read the
next one in fact there's a strong chance
I'm going to have I'm going to work with
like a scriptwriter to actually help me
write this better and work with editors
to write it better so that I can create
YouTube video series on it a 12-part
youtube video series or maybe in reality
better content is usually shorter
content bit edited heavier which is
something that's been difficult for me
to learn but there's a strong chance
instead of being a twelve part series
that maybe it's an eight part series so
that it's like faster and more
interesting so we'll see how it shakes
out wide over to workflowy now to see
how I figure out where I'm at now we're
looking at workflow and here is where
outline visible image type project
contents that I outlined here you'll see
that if I take a look at the completed
stuff there are a bunch of like other
things that what I meant there's only
three things that outlined here
I don't do all my work here only when
I'm feeling that I want to write an
outline so I don't always and maybe
better if I have a specific way that I
do things all the time but I don't so
anyway once I finish something up I'll
complete it remove it to the completed
area so it's not cluttered and then I
can dive in here so I see each one of
the parts some of these are like pretty
long and thing it could go in this side
project and look each of the things that
I published and read them and so on or I
can just catch up quickly and see what I
wrote in the outline so for this part
six I talk about expenses cost and
revenue and talk about the positive ROI
and this is after essentially in part 5
what going super out of order like
momento but in part 5 I talk about guest
posting how I picked up the work there
and stopped outsourcing it completely
and to lead and drove it to completion
which was super important then I talked
about the money trail the expenses then
we went to part 7 which was all about
the Amazon Commission change in March so
this is going back a while it's
currently June earth like the mid mid
part two so early summer right now and
this goes all the way back to March
right so the Commission change came out
March and I think Robin I found out in
early February or so so we talked about
the 35% hit and we are looking um at
what we're going to do so luckily at
this point
Rob and I had figured out okay
we know that it's going to be really
hard to sell the site for 500k which is
what we were aiming for because we
basically took a 35% hit revenue so we
looked at the two main possibilities
which was Versailles which were to try
to reach that goal and increase the
revenue to about
16500 which was you know essentially
doubling it or to just look at where we
were at work on finishing up the project
and you know not necessarily cutting our
losses but things changed and we needed
to move on and that sort of brings us to
the next portion which is in part 8 I
guess is a better way to say it and that
is all about being adaptable and
flexible and things change no matter
what business to sort of go at a higher
level and look at this a little bit
differently but at a higher level any
industry or any business that you're in
the rules can change on and quick note I
do show how to use workflow in one of my
other videos so you can check that out
so I'm just diving it because I don't
need to know parts you know one through
seven at this point I'm just looking at
part so to jump back on to my high horse
here business wouldn't no matter what
business you're in the rules could
change the laws can change something in
half can happen in the city let's say
you have a restaurant for example there
could be some sort of law change with
the maybe like Health Department
something is different maybe there's
some sort of catastrophe things could
happen if you have like a healthcare
firm of some kind of you work on some
sort of health care or like billing
something or other
rules and laws change all the kind of
health care industry as most people are
probably aware if you're in the u.s. you
probably know that things can change
fast and whole industries can shift when
you look at the real estate market you
know whenever sales are you know high
when real estate is moving fast there's
a bunch of people that go get the real
estate license and we think they're
going to make a lot of money real estate
and then the market goes down and really
only
the people that are really driven are
going to stay in real estate you know
whether the you know the harsh downturn
that it goes up and down all I mean if
you just look at real estate prices you
see it goes up so that the point is we
are Rob and I are operating in the
Amazon affiliate business affiliate
marketing business and being changed all
the time it turns out there are two
major things that we do not control in
affiliate business specifically the
Amazon affiliate business model and that
is we get traffic from Google so we rely
on Google and SEO on the front end and
then on the back end we rely on Amazon's
pass now I don't have a fear that Amazon
is going to go away or anything like
that however we don't control it we
didn't control or have any say or clout
in the fact that Commission rates change
so where does that leave us and left us
in the spot where our revenue went down
by about thirty five percent and we
needed to figure out what to do now when
I was less wise and younger I think
nothing wise now but I'm wise enough one
when I look back at how I used to
operate there's very strong possibility
that I would have basically fell victim
to the sunk cost fallacy it's referred
to as a bias and some literature and
stuff like that but essentially I'm
trying to you know chase money and time
that I've already spent on something
this whole project a white hat prot like
I guess time the money that I've put
into the project a white hat so I maybe
would have wanted to you know stay with
my eyes on selling deciphered by printer
K and all of a sudden you know there's a
whole other problem of dealing with the
figure out how to double the revenue
sell the site into it in on a timeframe
that Rob and I were comfortable now the
thing is
for Rob and I if wasn't super important
to actually settle for 500k
it was important for us to finish the
project basically as quickly as possible
not that we were spending out of time on
it but it's a big you know thing that we
were working on for a long time and to
have that mind space
free was really important so Rob and I
discussed it a few times luckily he and
I have a very similar outlook on you
know the sub cost fallacy and goal of
finishing the project quickly and not
dragging it out the risk is we could
have because this is a side project for
both of us we commonly put in a couple
hours a week for the periods where we
were the most busy on the project so for
Rob and I both we basically just wanted
to finish it up so we want other things
that were interested in we don't we
didn't need to you know sell the
Centrify burger kay if he sold it for
something less we would be happy with
and the thing is if we were trying to
double the revenue from roughly 8,000 to
16,000 plus we were probably going to
have to spend a lot more time than we
did we'd have to invest more money as
well
would it be possible probably but we
were particularly interested in taking
that route so we had you know some
conversations about it and then decided
we would move forward as quickly as
possible that's what we did so that
helps me that so the whole goal of this
was to figure out where we were at in
this store of project or white hat so
now I know I can write you know parts 9
through 12 or at least outline them and
mention you know what's going to happen
right after that I know you know since
the part 8 here so that was just about
you know our plan to actually sell the
site so now I'll have to go through off
to think back and see what I can
remember I mean chat with
just a bit make sure remember correctly
essentially we will talk about putting
aside up for sale you know there's a
process with that we'll talk about
waiting for that to happen cuz it
doesn't happen overnight we'll also look
at you know offers that we receive which
were interesting and oh and before that
you know when we list the site for sale
there's a whole process evaluation due
diligence by the broker that we worked
with which was Empire flippers in this
case and then going on to the
negotiation portion which was
interesting and just the back and forth
and actually will be there maybe one to
two post just the negotiation portion
and you know receiving offers and what
you do when you get an offer so you know
Rob and I both sold a couple sites but
the thing is we've never sold anything
that was just expensive so we didn't
know what to expect so there's a few
things I could definitely talk about as
far as like the selling process I've
written a couple of articles of guest
posts I think on that sort of topic so
it should be fairly straightforward
forms to go ahead you know refer back to
those they get ideas because the thing
is I didn't journal during this period
over like the last two months which
didn't do much journaling or taking
notes um what was happening so it was
kind of my fault but it'll be good to go
down memory lane to figure out without I
was doing for this two months the point
being I could refer back to gustas that
I wrote after I sold site and that it'll
retain oh my memory about things you
have to do yourself site so anyway
that's sort of behind the sea the white
hat and a little you know throwback to
workflow as well if you haven't watched
the video and work slowly I'll link to
it below should be you know literally
interesting if you're into these sort of
products like simple minimal
productivity tools which is what this I
mean word flow is basically an outlining
program you can you know adapt to
whatever you need it to be used as a
checklist before and it's to do list but
you know you can use it for whatever you
want and it's super flexible their
mobile app that I'm using my iPhone is
very good it sinks very well so anyway
I'll end it here we'll see you on the
next Thanks
