Now, you might not know this, but right now
you might be doing something that's annoying your customers,
your subscribers, and your followers.
(doorbell ringing annoyingly)
- Yeah, that's pretty annoying.
- And it's keeping you from making sales
and growing as a business.
to put somebody off in a way that
they're gonna leave and never come back.
In this video I'm gonna share the top five business
pet peeves that are turning people away.
How do I know what these things are?
Because I asked you in a previous video,
and boy did you speak up.
First up we have our pretenders, the people
who are pretending to be somebody they are not.
Perhaps they're inauthentic or they're stretching
the truth or lying, they're fake, they're just
not being completely honest.
Brittany here says, my biggest pet peeve
is when someone acts like they are a bigger hotshot
than they are, it seems so phony and fake
it just screams insecure to me.
And Mark here says, it's the lack of authenticity
when a person can't be sincere about who they are,
how can one trust the value they will bring?
If you're rock n' roll don't claim to be hip hop
just to make a sale.
And Mark said it completely right there.
If you aren't sincere and are not authentic,
how can people trust you?
And in this world of online business,
trust is the most important thing in the world.
Alright, number two, bad sales funnels.
A sales funnel is when you are entered into,
I don't know, an email list, or take some action
in some way, that puts you in a path where
you are getting sold to, now that's not necessarily
a bad thing, it can be done very, very well,
but if not done well, it'll actually stick out
like a sore thumb and be very painful.
For example, Erica here says, my biggest pet peeves
are free offers, that's the top of the funnel,
with little to no value, just to sell you on a
thousand dollar plus product and also annoying
sales funnels that oversell or try to guilt you
into purchasing something, I can definitely relate to that,
I have been a part of that process being on several
peoples' email lists before in the past too.
Terry here says, my biggest pet peeves are sales
funnels designed to upsell a person on something
he or she has now familiarity with before they
even know what the base model does.
Now the big lesson there, to paraphrase
what Terry was saying, is that, when you're upselling,
which isn't a bad thing, you can do it in a very,
very good way by serving more with things
that can be helpful, but if you're doing it either,
out of of order, or too soon, or perhaps with
things that actually don't relate to what
they initially have, well then it's just gonna
seem disingenuous and almost a little pushy.
So the big idea with sales funnels,
create them, make them great, continue
that customer journey, create as Nichole Walter
says, the funnel after the funnel, that's great,
but make sure you also put yourself in the shoes
of those who are in that funnel, and just make
sure that they are being treated well
and in a good cadence.
Alright, number three, and this is a big one,
poor customer service.
This was absolutely one of the most common
pet peeves that you all had, just for example,
Emer here, she says, pet peeve, poor customer service.
Karol says, poor customer service,
greatest pet peeve.
Ray here says, poor customer service.
- This is a coupon for unparalleled customer service.
- Alright, and then there's this comment here
which is a little bit more specific,
businesses that rave about their customer service
but in reality have poor customer service.
All talk, no action.
You're noticing a little bit of a theme here
with things that have people upset,
the all talk, no action thing.
But specifically with customer service,
saying you're gonna be there and not being there
is not okay, it's like being on the phone
and pressing all the buttons, press four
to go here, and press 10 to go here, there's no 10
button, but I don't know, you know what I mean,
it gets crazy, so just make sure that you, number one,
are there for your audience, and allow them
to reach out to you, but also set those
expectations and make them real.
Number four, too much hype.
Hype is over exaggeration, bending the truth
a little bit and trying to get people excited
in a way where it's kind of off putting.
Now it's important to understand that there's a difference
between hype and buzz.
Buzz is great, buzz is when the people
and the crowds talk and they're excited,
and they're almost talking internally,
that's the opposite of hype, which is very forceful,
driven from you, and not really about your customer
but more about you and very self centered.
You do not want it to be approached in that way.
For example, Bradley here says, I think my biggest
pet peeve is the over the top hype, here's a subject
line from an email I got today,
hot to turn, $20 into $10,000, you won't believe this!
They're right, I don't believe it.
And I don't believe it either, so, be realistic
and try to drive clicks by being curiosity driven,
or creating an open loop of some kind,
but there is a line and don't cross it.
Number five, a lack of empathy and compassion.
Understanding who it is that you're serving
and why and what their needs are so that you can
offer them those services, so you can offer them
those products, so you can offer them that help
and help them solve those problems.
For example, here's a comment from Andrea who says,
when a business that started as very personal
and customer oriented becomes less personal
and less approachable.
So they go from being heard to being not heard,
and obviously that doesn't feel so good.
And then there's a comment here from Jessica
that says, my biggest pet peeve is when
online entrepreneurs, influencers, get so large
that they start to forget their audience.
They'll be really engaged and committed for a long time,
and then at the end it makes them feel like
they're taking their business and their
customers for granted because they're just
not around anymore.
It is very difficult to grow and scale
that intimacy and that customer service in that way,
but there are systems and things
that you can do and people you can hire
to make sure people are still taken care of,
and I've learned some very hard lessons
over the years getting my inbox to like, 10,000 unread
emails at one point, and then finally hiring
and creating systems to be able to still
serve my audience while growing big,
and hopefully you feel that through this channel,
and the other channels that I have that I'm still
continuing to do a good job, despite being quite big,
of helping and serving you and listening to you,
so, continuing to keep that pattern going,
I wanna listen to you, again, I would love
for you to leave a comment underneath this video,
so the question to you before you go is,

Meaning when you go to a website, what's the thing
that just bothers you the most that makes you click away?

- [Man Off Camera] So what bothers you?
- What bothers me?
People who dab.
- [Man Off Camera] Like who?
- Like my son, when he dabs, like this.
