hello it is Doug Cunnington here I'm
gonna try and turn the microphone over i
think i have it flipped over on the
wrong side here and hopefully people can
see and hear me i'm from a niche site
project i'm the founder of niche site
project and this is actually the webinar
where i talk about how i founded the
website this is like super
self-indulgence and it turned out a lot
of people emailed me and said they did
actually want to hear this story this is
probably a subset right because like i
said it's really self-indulgent and not
as many people actually signed up for
this particular webinar but i will go
into all the details and talk about how
you know actually i got started online
at all and how I I guess roof I guess
reached out to people and networked and
today and hopefully people can hear me I
do have a sound check slide but what I
will ask is if you can hear me please
tell me in the chat that you can hear me
additionally i will say just say hi in
the child let me know where you're from
and i'm going to type a little message
that will display there and hopefully in
just a second people will start saying
yes i could hear you Doug okay hey Dom
uses yeah altered leo hey Leo what's up
how you doing thanks for the email
earlier I saw that bahaha he Bala he I
think maybe I'm saying your name right
welcome and then Richard from Puerto
Escondido Mexico awesome very cool
thanks for joining today we'll get
started in just a couple minutes here so
if you're just logging in a head over to
the chat let me know where you're from
and I appreciate you joining today and
I'm Doug Huntington by the way from the
side project and I'm talking about the
founding of niche site project so it was
kind of fun like going through you know
the process of just remembering what
I've been doing so and I think a few
people express interest and where they
liked seeing like how I did some my
brain storming at work so I really I
honestly just get a legal pad and just
make notes sometimes I draw pictures you
know that'll make sense later that's in
the presentation and then I mean that's
pretty much it like very straightforward
and the thing is you know working on the
laptop sometimes it's super distracting
like stuffs popping up maybe I have to
look something up on facebook and then
my feed is showing me all these
interesting things that I want to see so
that I like get off task but if I just
work on a legal pad like at the kitchen
table or with a laptop clothes or
something like that it could really you
know generate my thoughts and work
through it without getting distracted
I'm very easily distracted apparently
okay Kyle welcome from hollister very
cool alright so we have a handful of
people on or three past the hour there's
always a little intro that I do so I'm
going to go ahead and hop over to the
presentation here thanks everyone for
joining up Akash from India thanks
welcome
and let's see okay so like I said this
is how I started a niche site project
it's really behind the scenes and
totally self indulgent but some people
do like to see this behind-the-scenes
stuff and here's the thing right so you
can use the stuff that I'm telling you
to you know number one launch your own
internet marketing website right but
it's also applicable to your niche sites
or any other website that you have maybe
you work for you know a marketing
company or something like that or you
work for yourself and you do SEO like
you can use these same ideas either for
yourself or clients everything sort of
translates that will all become really
clear as we move forward so everyone
confirmed that you could hear me which
is great I'm duck Huntington like I keep
saying founder of niche site project
that's my dog and I out near Yellowstone
so that's the beartooth pass in Wyoming
and I have been quoted or featured or I
posted a guest post or I was on the
podcast for the site's below I was
recently on social triggers which is
cool that was really awesome that was
about my course called five-figure niche
site coming out next week by the way
coming out next week um and I've been on
genius link recently I had a pretty big
guest post over on Empire flippers it
came out last week and I think a new
podcast just came out called the big
movement podcast I'll send out a link
later but I was on that it just
published yesterday I heard Byron Byron
Ingram is the host there so he pinged me
yesterday and I haven't had a chance to
share it out yet so if you get a chance
that's one of the most recent podcasts
that have been ok so just a question I
know we don't have a huge number of
people in the in the crowd today it
looks like about just 10 from what I
could see some pretty lights pretty
light crowd who has an Internet
marketing blog already and then you just
say in the chat you know yes or no and
if you want to I'm totally cool if you
want to share what your your blog is you
could just type it in there people can
check it out or if you're interested in
starting a blog someday you can also say
that but like I said feel free to type
it in the chat here it's fine with me I
do always point out this timeline here
in these presentations just to give you
a clear picture that everything is not
awesome when you're working for yourself
in fact I call this the niche site
timeline it's a roller coaster of sorts
but you'll see it for entrepreneurship
or probably like fill in the blank any
sort of business that you run on your
own there's going to be problems so the
thing is this is kind of cool because
we're going to follow along a little bit
here where you know I've learned about
niche sites in april 2013 I realize it's
a little bit small myntra and zoom and
I'm not sure if this will work it is not
so this is april 2013 where i learned
about niche sites and then i launched my
first amazon affiliate niche site in
july 2013 now I don't usually go through
this level of detail but these dates
will be important as I go through the
narrative later on alright and then in
December of 2013 my one niche site my
first amazon affiliate site made like
6452 dollars in december and then by the
end of january it was penalized and
earnings dropped to like a hundred
dollars that was bad I was very sad when
I got that email in April after I
regrouped a little bit by the way I was
working full-time as a project manager
this whole time um all the way up until
2015 this look this very low point not
that long ago and in april 2014 i
launched five new niche sites and also
my house was foreclosed on which is a
whole other story for maybe some other
day but i started new site
a lot of those were associated with a
case study and then well all five of
more penalized by sep tember a lot of
other people went down in that period of
time as well I was you know hanging
around with some PB enters that sort of
got me into trouble and well in in me to
write I gotten myself into trouble but
we all got penalized basically and then
in 2014 I launched a new site October of
2014 and eventually it's the site that's
making everything go well in december of
last year just a few months back i made
over oh it made just short of 15,000 I
have some other projects on the side to
that are noted here so back to the chat
I do you see a couple people do have
internet marketing blog so richard has a
fitness blog every man fit calm and then
Bala she i'm not sure if i'm pronouncing
your name right but i'll just assume
that has money blogger with you know
looks like 1g there so if you if people
in the crowd want to check out the sites
go check it out sign up for their email
list whatever so maybe you'll get some
ideas richard in bala ha hopefully
you'll learn something that uh you could
try ok so Q&A is at the end i will take
a look every now and then at the chat
but a lot of times it distracts me a
little bit so like i said i'm pretty
distractible so there's a decent number
of slides and i'm going to try to you
know get through the information without
going into too many tangents and
actually if you do have questions i will
pause pretty frequently because one I
have a little bit of a cold my throat
hurts so I'll get a sip of water but I
definitely encourage you even though the
q and A's at the end if you have a
question in the middle please ask it
because that'll sort of help this
presentation be a little more dynamic
instead of me just you know talking
about myself the whole time love to do
it but I'm
no I am self conscious about it and I do
understand that the King you know they
could wear I can wear people down so
feel free to ask questions if you see
something doesn't make sense ask me
about it or if you want to press me on
something that I said you know
definitely challenge me it certainly
makes it more interesting if I have to
you know defend a position or describe
something in more detail all right again
this is the orange ettore it's like
behind the music anybody watch behind
the music remember that it was on vh1 it
was like you know in bands sort of went
out of control and their rise and fall
hopefully this won't be that dramatic
but ok so a couple of things have been
like the guiding force there's two main
ones so be nice right not earth
shattering or anything but a lot of
people forget it and I can describe a
couple of details right so your be nice
so I try to be nice and I try to you
know let I guess let my actions or
represent what I'm trying to do in that
you know I'm friendly to other bloggers
which is super helpful and I usually try
and offer something before I asked for
it the reason why I'm mentioning it is
because I get pitched at this point I
get pitched all the time I get an email
from someone who obviously doesn't mean
niche site project or even know me or
know people that know me to send me an
email and they say hey I want to do a
guest post on your site or hey I have
this product you want to sell it there's
an affiliate program and there's no like
relationship building I don't know who
it is I don't know if the product is
like any good or not and they're just
not very nice they're just come in and
asking for something so you know at this
point I can be a little selective and
you know what I always could have been
more selective but a lot of times you
feel like hedge you need to take
advantage of this opportunity while it's
here but it turns out there's more
opportunities than you can ever take
advantage of
most of them will probably work okay but
you know you just have to you know pick
the ones you want to pursue so the
overall thing is be nice I usually try
and you know lead lead my actions by
being nice and this worked out well
you'll see as I go on how this is sort
of I guess guided specific ways when I
networked and got things done next do
what you say you will do so this is you
know for yourself it's for other people
and it really pays off so for example I
know a lot of people are into niche
sites so you know if you're if you're
saying hey I want to build a niche site
and I want to publish 50 posts by in six
months or something like that you if you
just do what you say you're going to do
you're probably going to be successful
the thing is most people don't do what
they say they're going to do they just
say hey it'd be great to make you know X
amount of money so and so you know they
have more time than me or they have you
no more technical skills than I do or
whatever there's always some excuse the
thing is if you just if you figure out
how to do the things that you say you're
going to do you'll probably be
successful you know the timeline is as
long as you want it to be there's no
rush the other thing is when you're
working with other people right so if
you say you're going to you know promote
someone's blog or tweet it out you
should do it you know do what you say
you're going to do because you're
proving you're going to be a reliable
resource in the future again this comes
into play so two things you could
probably use it in life not just on
launching websites but be nice do what
you say you're going to do okay so when
I first got started this was on
literally almost four years ago as i
write 2013 so four years ago before that
i did not know i never even heard of a
niche site i didn't know what wordpress
was i literally knew nothing
out internet marketing at all in fact a
few people may have heard this story
before but I'm big into home brewing
beer and I'm like a high-ranking
certified beer judge sound like the
nerdy aspect of drinking beer and I'm
really into it and I started home
brewing in like 2007 and that was right
when podcasts were kind of taking off a
little bit more so as soon as I heard
about home brewing a beer I like got
into these podcasts about brewing beer
so I listened to literally hundreds of
hours and hundreds of episodes maybe
even thousands of hours I'm pretty sure
it could be in the thousands and
hundreds and hundreds of episodes right
so it was super into home brewing and
then I reached like a saturation point I
got burned out I needed a little bit of
a break on the brewing stuff and I came
across some more passive income so I
just you know I was just randomly
browsing the categories on the podcast
app so i found smart passive income it
was around the Sun around the time that
niche site duel was going on in fact I
got into that like site so i don't know
people remember but like there was a
website the pat flynn developed and it
was niche tight duel 2 point 0 and yet
thousands of people joined up there i
logged in earlier today to pull the
screenshot is still there is basically
inactive and you know i don't know that
the niche site duel 2 point 0 like
turned out like Pat wanted exactly it
seemed to sort of waiver and it was much
different than his niche site 1 point 0
which was way before my time by the way
the thing is you know it was a community
where everyone was working on the same
thing he built it on like vanilla forums
I think so kind of slick looking site
overall I I formed a mastermind group
there so you know back you know one of
my strengths I guess is networking
though I don't I don't feel that way cuz
I'm pretty I'm fairly introverted and
that super outgoing or loud or anything
so in a group situation I just kind of
blend in as needed um but in these sort
of settings I aunt like I pulled
together a mastermind group with like
five or six people and I was the hub
that pulled it all together right uh it
fell apart after like maybe like six or
eight meetings but there were people
that were ahead of me right there were
people that were already making money on
Adsense and funny story I remember
telling my wife after the very first
meeting we met on Saturday mornings like
8am and there was this guy named Josh
and he he was like yeah have a site um
you know I launched it you know six
months ago and it's making like 250 dang
like two dollars and fifty cents a day
from ad says that was like oh man like
that's awesome like I told my wife I was
like this one guy he launched a site
like six months ago he's like way ahead
of the others um and he's you know he's
pulling in you know what 250 260 so he's
making you know a little under 100 bucks
a month if I'm doing my math right so
he's doing some like he's making money
online and it was amazing right that was
the first person that I knew that I
talked to that was actually making money
online crazy so anyway miss I duel 2
point 0 is when I first got started a
coincided luckily with spencer hawes
niche pursuits a niche site project 1
point 0 which was just an itch like
project back then I of course launched
my site taking that name so Thank You
Spencer I know you're not watching or
anything but I have thanked him in the
past and you know he's a sort of tease
me about taking that name but it's a
good name in fact it was it was like
someone's URL at one point for a short
time I think they squatted on it so this
was my first exposure to Amazon sites
amazon affiliate sites of course and I I
was
maybe a couple months behind herself but
I caught up pretty fast and there was a
lot of sort of information floating
around at that time this is back when
Spencer was still doing like gray hat
activities he was big with you know hat
SEO folks like Hayden Miyamoto and his
crew and I think at that point you know
he and Spencer were launching like some
PB ends and they were selling domains
and stuff like that so this is this is
way back before you know Spencer's
pretty much straight up white hat at
this point so anyway it was a great
resource to go on and you know Spencer
had tons and tons of information so I
followed on there and it worked out well
just in general so real july i launched
my first sight and here i went back to
my 2013 posts and you know it grew small
so this is december here so november
october September and I launched the
site this is August of course I made 21
bucks but I watched the site in July
like July fourteenth is when I bought
the domain I don't know why I remember
that but July fourteenth is when I
bought the domain my wife actually
thought of the original niche and
launched the site and did what I was
supposed to so it was 21 bucks and then
500 and this is what I described to
people in my course right so the
timelines more extended than this like
you have to really do some crazy if
you want to see growth like this now so
it's extended more like you know across
a year instead of just six months but
think this is the kind of growth you see
it's not um like really linear although
this this is just amazing growth right
here where it's like doubling like each
time around of course you know the other
part of the story where like in January
trucked into a hundred so it's doing
some not cool stuff gray hats scoff at
that point but it worked right it worked
pretty well and I learned a hell of a
lot from the whole process so is that
when
on um like the idea was in my head to
have like an internet marketing site
some kind I mean that's you know I'm
following Pat Flynn following Spencer
Hawes and I'm thinking hey those guys
know what's going on and you know
they're they're able to market other
stuff and I was like I want to do what
they're doing also um in my degree is an
inch of a computer engineering degree so
I don't have a marketing or sales or any
kind of business background I have none
of it so you know a lot of the people
that I worked with in my corporate job
they had like mis degrees or MBAs and
they had like some more business
background and acumen that I did so this
was all new super interesting one thing
I didn't you know really pay as much of
attention to is like Spencer and Pat had
been doing it for years at that point so
like it's really hard to remember that
like they had a thousand days in or
fifteen hundred days or two thousand
days in like they've been doing it for a
while and I was like a hundred days in
so like pretty naive if you can imagine
but the seed was point that's the point
okay so the thing is like why would you
start a blog this is something I
struggled with a little bit and you know
when I talked to my wife about this
stuff she was like you know what's the
point of that I don't get it so there's
a there's a couple aspects right three
main things as I was making my notes
yesterday share knowledge right so if
you can teach something to someone else
it's like the it's a level of
understanding that you can't get just by
practicing it or you know a lot of
people don't even practice internet
marketing right they read about internet
marketing and then they tell other
people the same stuff and they don't
actually practice it but if you learn it
read it and then practice it and then
teach someone how to do it like you have
mastery over that area and it it may
sound a little crazy but if people an
audience it taught before like you
understand this like you have
to dissect it and go from you have to
reverse engineer is the word I'm looking
for you have to reverse engineer like
what you're teaching the other part is
accountability you know a lot of these
blog posts that I do are around case
studies they're the most interesting
they're the hardest for people right
because there's no you know I can't read
about it and then talk about someone
else's stuff and have much credibility
so you have to you know write about your
own case studies huge amount of
credibility and accountability by
talking about Ian sigh can't just quit
right I'll look like a fool so a great
example is a 500k case study I think
hopefully uh you know the people need in
the chat have been able to take a look
at a few of the post but like that is
going to be I'll tell you now this is
going to be a bit of a disaster so I
mean it'll work out in the end and it'll
be fine but it's not going to be what I
thought it was going to be and then the
third part why start a blog to sell
something so I wrote it third but I mean
really that's the main thing I'll be
honest with you right so any internet
marketer is not just doing it to be like
super nice of course I want to come back
to the first point you do want to be
nice and you want to do what you're
going to say you're going to do but i
want to sell something that helps people
right so no one will continue to buy
things that i sell if they're not
helpful and you know at the end of the
day it takes a lot of time to run niche
type project and to write this content
to do the videos and all the other stuff
to do this webinar that I'm doing for
free I've been doing like this is a 12-1
this year so all this stuff it takes a
lot of time and at the end of the day I
do want to be paid back in some fashion
right so selling something is the
easiest way to quantify that and that's
just the way it is you know it sounds
selfish and stuff like that but I mean I
assume most people that are trying to
start a niche site like you're doing it
to make some money
so we can all be adults about it okay
next I did have to figure out a
differentiator because there's tons of
people that start blogs that is really
kind of boring right they just write
about stuff and the regurgitating other
material and it's not super interesting
or helpful so my differentiator was
project management so it actually took
me a pretty long time to think of that
like at least a month or six weeks like
trying to come up with an angle that was
interesting but it turns out at my
project management experience is fairly
rare I have to cough
okay sorry about that i may have to
cough again soon
so it turns out that project management
is a pretty rare skill especially in the
internet marketing area so additionally
i brought like management consulting
experience also fairly rare especially
in internet marketing I mean people that
do management consulting usually make
pretty decent money so they don't often
change industries for no good reason so
it sort of brings an organization to
exactly what is very confusing about
internet marketing like I said I did
follow a couple like the first niche
site project by Spencer tons of
information super hard to go through and
figure out like what's the right thing
to do in fact if you went through it in
chronological order you would end up
doing things that he later said you
shouldn't do right could you learn along
the way so it's that sort of like
confusion that's out there that made me
think organizing information in a
project management way to be helpful and
this and I thought hey a Venn diagram
would be very cool and I'm covering this
intersection right here between project
management and niche sites in fact one
of my first logos was a very crappy Venn
diagram that looked very much like this
so I'm gonna pause here for a second I'm
going to actually go back to video and
dis arrest does anyone have any
questions how's everyone doing is this
interesting is anyone followed since
those early post on like Newt pursuits
like I said I cut a little cold so I'll
try not to talk so loud I don't need to
yell here alright any questions
okay i know there's a little bit of a
delay out there and i'll just call out
you know thanks Kyle for attending in
Ted tadich thanks brad leo of course
Joel dami staff Dimitri Phillip ba la he
Richard Akash in 555 thanks everyone for
coming today all right so I don't see
any questions so I'll proceed and i'll
assume that everyone's having a blast
and it's super interesting
but basically at the point where I
thought hey okay all lunch an internet
marketing blog I was like I want to make
sure I can get some coverage so I
pinched a pitched Spencer niche pursuits
to do one of his success stories which
he was openly asking for and I remember
thinking oh you know I'm not doing as
well as some of the other people but at
least I think when I you know got got
touch with him I was like I hit the five
hundred dollar mark and I was doing
pretty well um looking to do even better
right um so I pitched him and he was
good on it and I was like um you know
launching a blog I'm thinking of like
releasing some products and stuff is it
okay if I like mention that stuff so I
worked really hard on a guest post for
him and he actually featured me twice
right so i went to search over on the
site earlier today and you can see this
was the first one that was november 22nd
2013 and so basically i was like hey I'm
using project management and I'll answer
this questions you can see there's 87
either comments or shares or
interactions so that was cool and I got
you know hundreds of people to go check
it out and basically I was okay if
you're interested in this ebook that I
think that I may launch the fav enough
interest just let me know I'm building
an email list and then later on I i
remember it was like towards the end of
january i pinged her started the end of
december of 2013 I ping Spencer and I
was like hey like my sides going crazy
and like I want to be on the podcast if
you'll have me so he said sure and it
finally published on februari 18th and
got 137 um like comments or interactions
which is really good and that I mean
both of these are like way more than I
would get on my site even if I publish
something super amazing so tons of
interaction and went really well um
and said me like tons of traffic i think
my site was even going like crashing
that day the key thing that i did here
was I gave a freebie so I said hey you
had come to my site to get this process
that I think it was a book blog
commenting or something so people went
to you know that particular post that I
had and they signed up so that was sort
of like the launch of it all now I did
mention the networking that I did and I
think this is a unique thing right so if
you haven't been paying attention pay
attention now this is the unique thing
that I did that you know I'm
manufactured my own opportunity um
through you know approaching Spencer and
Spencer said he was looking for people
to be featured and you know he's still
doing that by the way so if anyone's
like doing groundbreaking stuff you
could approach Spencer and you know he
may look show in the podcast so anyway I
manufactured my own opportunity and then
I took it a step further so I was on
Spencer site which is a huge platform
and then the thing i did was this so the
system was contact all the other success
story people that were featured on
Spencer site I believe at the time there
were like 10 or so maybe nine and I
asked him to guest post on my site again
remember the call back to you know being
nice so I asked them you know hey do you
want a guest post on my site I'm
launching a new one I'm going to be
featured on Spencer site soon and I just
wanted to touch base and you could write
about whatever you want I'm gonna launch
the site but I want more content out
there and I don't have time to write you
know enough so you know most of the
people said no but a handful said yes
like five or six of them or so may have
said yes maybe four I don't remember it
wasn't a ton but some people you know
said no like not not a big deal in fact
I remember you know i listed a couple
examples of how it worked in people that
i'm still in touch with
like John haver for example he said no
he didn't say I could guest post on his
side either but I made contact with him
I still email them like to this day and
like we help each other out every now
and then Matt Allen is another guy so he
actually did guest post on my site and
later on I was able to guest post on his
side and in fact if you've read many of
the posts that I've written recently you
know he's still out there he reads my
site he's a good guy so basically you
know you can make you know make contacts
but the key thing right I gave them a
guest post on my side most of the time
the pitches that I get someone will say
hey I'll put a guest post on your site
I'm watching my own site to be great to
like write on your site of course I'm
going to say no because I don't know who
they are and they have like no sample of
their writing and there's like
misspelled words and their email and
stuff it's all the details right so they
did they do everything wrong when i get
those pitches but i did the opposite
right then you know further i think that
was the biggest differentiator by the
way the other stuff that i did was just
normal things that i talked about all
the time i commented on other people's
blogs and I did guest posting it's
literally the same exact system the same
stuff that I talked about you know each
nuttin every single one of these
webinars but those topics are like high
up on the list and is literally like
blog commenting to build relationships
and then ask for a guest post super
simple same exact process and then this
the other part is right good content the
unfortunate part with blogs and one of
the reasons why don't read many blogs
the writing is terrible it's really bad
and you know it's a meandering narrative
of just you know poor grammar and just a
casual pneus that shows like they didn't
put much time into it and you know it's
easy to differentiate your content by
like riding it a little bit better now
I'm trying to get better at writing and
I'm trying to edit harder and you know
not waste words right like the biggest
sin I see is you know someone will write
2,500 words and they could have actually
wrote it in like 500 words it's like
wasting their time and everyone else's
and it's not concise so I try to be as
much as I can try to be crisp and I
tried to you know get to the point some
of my poster a little on the long side
but I try to add the details and not be
redundant when it's he often is people
just like regurgitate stuff and then my
comp go on and on about it okay so
overall the the cool part of the system
was I went and I approached other people
that were success stories and asked them
to guest post on my son and I by the way
I didn't like push it and say hey you
gotta share it with all your with all
your people or send out an email blast
or anything like that I didn't tell him
to promote it at all some of them may
have shared it on social but it was
nothing major it was just it was a great
way to connect with people and the thing
is no the guest post that I got in their
sights later on those didn't come from
months but this was like the foundation
to make it happen ok so i launched the
ebook niche site project management and
that was literally like when i had 10
posts on the site or something like that
like the whole point of launching a
niche site project was to promote the
product right to sell something like i
said i did want to have the
accountability i did want to share
knowledge but i also wanted to sell a
product so that had like at the
beginning that was literally like one of
the main goals to be able to sell a
product that i created um with you know
no reliance on Google no reliance on
amazon um no affiliate program to work
through or
literally just mine so I approached it
in a very project management oriented
way and I had an alpha in a beta in a
full release and the Alpha I think I
sold 14 copies or so and by the way like
the price was discounted on Alpha I
think i capped it at 15 then the price
went up a little bit for the beta and I
can't remember honestly I can't remember
the pricing exactly but I think I
remember for the Alpha I actually had
you know a handful of for the Alpha I
wanted to have like one-on-one meetings
with everyone and for the beta I think I
had that as well because the thing is
you know I wanted to get out the
material and then talk to people about
what they thought what was missing what
was good and just you know what else to
add they also sort of served as like
proofreaders and stuff so alpha in a
discount beta at a discount but not as
low and then the full release and that
roughly followed um like I want to say
early December of 2013 is when the Alpha
went out I pre-sold it by the way and
then the beta came out in I think
january and then februari the full
release happened and there were you know
different packages that one could buy
for the full release but overall it was
an iterative process where I you know
got it out as quickly as I could got
feedback updated it got more feedback
and updated it and then what I was able
to just have an evergreen you know book
out there to some and this was you know
20 early 2014 and you know at that point
it was referencing web two point O's and
PB ends and that sort of stuff and by
the way that stuff still works quite
well but I don't practice it
and I still teach it to a small extent
at least as existence and like when it
can be a good idea but for the most part
I advise people not to do that however
in this case it was working great and
people were still like very very into PB
guns and stuff so anyway I I released
the book in it it went pretty well I
can't remember I you know what I didn't
look it up but I can't remember exactly
how many copies that sold as it went
through um like I said about 14 here for
the Alpha and then maybe about the same
number for the beta and I'm just off the
top of my head I think maybe the whole
um the whole like book product may be
made about 10k in 2014 don't quote me on
it but it was in that ballpark so as a
decent chunk of work um way up front
like most of the word happened in like
November of 2013 and then most of the
money was made like after that but big
thing is like I own the whole supply
chain the whole thing I sold it on each
unki which is kind of a like a older
it's one of the ancient software
products for that sort of product sales
and distribution gum road is actually
like a little bit sexier of a solution
these days but they serve the same
purpose overall so much done eat junk II
and I think you know that service only
cost like five bucks a month super cheap
and a quick note some people that
actually took the course that are big on
like Facebook endured bloggers himself
so Kent chow herkie chow um like she's
on facebook a lot and you know he was
one of the original folks he enjoyed it
and tongue actually tongue Tran from
cloud living he was one of the Alpha
actually both these guys may have been
alpha members here so that was pretty
cool and you know I was able to you know
coach and talk to each of them one on
one all right um and then later on right
so I let the book just stay out there
and just every now and then I would get
a sale and it was okay but I wasn't
pushing it is it hard at that point in
time and you may remember from the
timeline I wasn't actually doing awesome
with niche site so it was kind of like
you know very and I felt the imposter
syndrome that you care about I mean I
feel it now still even though I have
sites doing really well but the thing is
like back then you know I still had the
information and I knew it worked i had
students that we're making money and
doing well and you know i just didn't
quite know what what to do like if i
should keep selling it or what so I just
never marketed it hard and I wrote
released a video course in the summer of
2015 I you know what I think it was
actually the summer of 2014 I take that
back so it must have been the summer of
2014 there so at that point you know I
basically moved the book over to like a
slide format much like you're seeing
here and I just talked over slides so
you know in full disclosure wasn't the
group the greatest product especially
when you compare that product to what i
have now for five figure niche site
five-figure niche site is like a whole
other level we're at you know talked to
the video it was very deliberately put
together and this video course here was
really like the book on
and tape um in it did well you know
again people wanted to have interaction
with me and they wanted to learn what I
was doing and what other people were
doing so get into the mistakes now and
I'm going to cough again for a moment
you
sorry about that this cold it's really
getting me okay so some of the mistakes
not being consistent and you hear about
people saying you need to publish every
week I don't think you have to publish
every week I think you have to you know
publish when you say you're going to
publish
okay still coughing over your folks
sorry about that so expectations are
very interesting so the thing is I've
