what's up everybody welcome to the first
video here in October for SPI TV and
this month if you haven't found out yet
through reading the blog or listening to
the podcast this month is email
marketing month here on SPI and to start
out SPI TV I wanted to show you I'm
going to take you into my computer and
show you the top 10 places to insert an
opt-in form on your website to increase
your conversions and get more people
subscribing to your list you're probably
leaving out a lot of places that you
could be collecting subscribers I've
learned this the hard way I've had a lot
going to help you find out where exactly
you should be putting your opt-in forms
so here we go let's go into my computer
and check it out ok so here we are on
the homepage of smart passive income
calm and I'm going to take you through a
number of different websites to show you
these different examples but the first
one I want to use one of my own so the
first tip is to place opt-in forms
multiple in your about page before my
about page included a subscription box
in the sidebar and that's it when I
included opt-in forms two times once in
the middle of this post or page and once
at the end it increased the conversion
rates by over four hundred percent on
this page and you might not know this
but your about page is one of the most
visited pages on your site likely but
more importantly it's one of the most
engaging because you are not only
talking about yourself but what your
website can do for your audience and
this is a perfect opportunity for you to
collect an email address number to place
an opt-in form on your home page on your
hero featured spot now your hero
featured spot is sort of this top area
here that typically shows your face what
your websites about your tagline here we
are at Michael Hyatt calm your virtual
mentor win at work succeed at life and
here he's doing a giveaway which is
great and he's collecting your name and
email address right here at the front
the top of the experience and derek
halpern also does this on social
triggers calm there are multiple ways
you can do this but this is one of the
highest converting in terms of the
number of subscriptions you'll get
because this is a first impression if
you have something great to offer it's
going to get even higher now the
conversion rates will be quite low
because you have a lot of people coming
to your home page but this collects the
low-hanging fruit that will be
interested in more
which you have to offer right up front
so include an optin form right on the
homepage right at the top number three
include an opt-in for more chance to
subscribe on your site at the end of
your blog posts and this makes sense
because when people reach the end of
your post save likely gotten some value
from what you've had to share and that's
a perfect prime opportunity for you to
ask for an email address you absolutely
have permission to do that and on the
leadpages net blog here they do that by
asking you to click to get a free
tutorial and they use something here
called the lead box which when you click
it opens up a lightbox which then you
only have one action that you can think
or two which is subscribe or exit and so
this is a great way and a great
opportunity for you to collect something
when the person on your site has already
experienced something that you've had to
share all right here we are back at that
same leadpages blog post that we were
just at in tip number three but this is
tip number four which is to include
opportunities to subscribe in the middle
of your post and this is something that
they do here by giving away top tools
right here in the middle of the post you
can see a big yellow bar when clicked on
again one of these light boxes these
lead boxes pops up you can enter your
email in there to download that
particular guide now this converts very
well because you are giving away
something and it is typically something
related to the content that you're
sharing here somebody else that does
this very well is brian dean from
backlink oh calm here he is using the
same exact technique in this post which
is very popular and right here in bold
yellow exclusive bonus download the
step-by-step checklist that will show
you how to improve conversions using the
content upgrade which is something he
just revealed at the beginning of his
post here so it's a perfect lead-in a
lot of people who kind of want to rush
into the checklist or download something
that relates to the content they're
going to get it right there he still
asks for emails at the end of the blog
post and throughout here on the side bar
as well but if you click on this again
one of these lead boxes comes up and you
can collect people's email addresses
that way so again number four within
your popular posts to start out without
actually go into your Google Analytics
or other analytical tool discover what
your top five to ten posts are and use
this strategy in those posts just to
start out number five here we are back
on the home page of my blog but actually
notice that I don't have opt-in forms
here on the home page at the top in the
hero feature area like I talked about in
example number two my primary motive is
to get people to click on this get
started here button so when you do that
this takes you to a getting started page
so this is sort of a side tip there's a
lot of people who come to your home page
that don't know exactly where to start
if you tell them what where to start
it's going to make their life much
easier you can share some of your top
tips especially for beginners or people
who are at your site for the first time
the first best pieces of content they
should get into and you can go over some
definitions like ID to kind of define
what the site is all about some
introductory videos and that sort of
thing but at the bottom of this post
after a couple more videos I share
something that they can get for free my
free get the start of the smart way
course which they can get by of course
entering their name and email address
and this is one of the top converting
pages on the website in terms of
collecting email addresses it's because
people who come to the site are highly
targeted after they've gotten all this
great information beforehand you have
permission to ask them for something and
this is a very very obvious choice for
them a getting started guide named an
email there you go number six include an
opt-in form on the sidebar of your
website this is one of the most common
places to include an opt-in form and one
of the best practices of course when
people arrive at any page on your site
they're going to see this here is quick
sprout com run by neil patel he has a
very very compelling offer here in the
side bar where you can leave your email
address to get started with one of his
free courses I talked about this back on
brian dean site backlink oh calm which
show you there enter your email here you
get exclusive tips so on and so forth
again the sidebar very very common your
conversion rates are typically typically
going to be lower but that's why you
have all of these other opt-in forms
throughout the rest of your site as well
most people just have only the sidebar
you should have it there but you should
have all these other ones across your
site as well number seven you can ask
for an email address on an exit pop-up
form and that sounds like exactly what
it is is when somebody tries to leave
your site you show them a kind exit
forum that offers them something that
they perhaps wouldn't have gotten if
they had just left without you sharing
this
you might think this is a little
obtrusive and you know you might have
one opinion on it and I have an opinion
on it however I know a lot of people are
getting a lot of extra options from this
and when you think about it people are
going to leave your site anyway you
might as well try one more time to get
their email address before they leave
this is how it works Here I am on social
media examiner com but I'm leaving this
site Oh pop up get your free copy of the
social media marketing industry report
which is a huge report that I know
Michael stelzner the owner of social
media examiner shares and people love so
if people didn't know about this here
they are they get one last chance and
you might subscribe there's a great tool
called optinmonster that allows you to
do this and if you have access to
leadpages net you also have an ability
to do this through one of the tools with
their lead boxes as well next to share
this example I want to show you a guest
post that was recently written on my
website by May named grant Baldwin now
grant had some really nice content to
share here about how he validated a
course and made over six figures in six
months and sales and all of his
struggles going through that now I have
a great relationship with Grant so I
allowed him to do this not everybody
will let you do this what i'm about to
share with you but if you do have a
great relationship you might have the
possibility of using tip number eight
here which is actually to include an
optin form on somebody else's site for
your particular email list and here at
the bottom of the post you'll see once i
get there this is a i guess that a very
valuable but but very big post you'll
see here at the bottom a call to action
that grant leaves which is click here to
get all of the bonuses mentioned above
and when i click on this it's going to
take me to a special page that has an
optin form that when you opt in it optin
it opps you in into grants email list
now this is this is huge it allows you
to build your list directly on somebody
else's site again you would want to make
sure you're honest and upfront with this
and grant asked me permission to do this
and I let them do this because we have a
great relationship but like I said you
want to make sure that you are honest
with an authentic with a person that you
are guest posting with or the site that
your guest posting on to know that this
is happening and of course if you've
delivered enough value for them like
grant did in this post chances are that
this person will let you do that and of
course it's a value add for everybody
reading as well because they get the
bonuses
related to this particular piece of
content as well so again number seven
excuse me number eight putting it often
for months somebody else's site that you
are guest posting on number nine here's
my good buddy chris ducker from chris
ducker calm he also has an email often
form here on his hero feature bar here
at the top of his page but at the bottom
he also includes an opt-in form in the
footer and this is something I know
works because I've asked Chris I've
asked a lot of people I've even tested
on my own website the footer of my
website gets a lot of people opting in
and when you think about it when people
scroll down that page the hero bar goes
away the SUBSCRIBE bar the in the
sidebar goes away and what's left is
what's at the bottom so if people go all
the way through to the bottom they have
another chance without having to go back
up to the top they might not even know
or remember that there was a place too
often even if they wanted to hear you're
making it easy for people at the end at
the very bottom of your post and I know
this converts so number nine include an
opt-in form in the footer of your blog
across all pages number ten include
opt-in forms on specialized landing
pages this is sort of what you want a
landing page to do for you is you want
people to come here and do nothing else
but subscribe to whatever it is that you
have to offer so you might be offering
something special like for example here
on Pat Flynn com you can check out my

share on my podcast it on my youtube
videos that makes it easy for people to
get here which is Pat's book club com
that redirects people to this page and
here they could subscribe to join my
book club I have another example ebooks
the smart wacom which redirects to this
page where people can download my ebook
called ebooks the smart way for free and
of course in order to get it they have
to leave their name and email address to
click to subscribe to get it and so
whatever it is that you have to offer
whether you're pulling people away from
a blog post to a particular landing page
from a podcast episode or video to a
particular landing page maybe you are
speaking on stage and you bring people
to a landing page where you have
something that you have to give away for
free to offer them in exchange for an
email address it's one of the top places
where you're going to get the highest
conversion rates on your site because
people
what to expect when they subscribe and
of course make sure you take care of
your subscribers once they do subscribe
but again specialized landing pages it's
always a win I have one final bonus tip
for you this can help you understand
what's working and what's not on your
website and so as you begin to include
opt-in forms all across your page and
yes you can probably include all the
ones i previously mentioned on your
website it's not too much and i thought
it was too much at first but i've never
heard any any sort of ill response from
people in terms of including all these
different opt-in form opportunities so
go ahead and do that and use this tool
crazy egg calm to understand where
people are clicking and what's working
on your website and you'll be able to
see that these often forms are actually
being used and what else is being
clicked on and maybe the things that you
thought were being clicked on that
warrant which here's an example of a
heat map which is one of the many tools
that are included in crazy egg to help
you understand exactly what your users
are doing the red spots are the hot
spots the blue spots not so much and you
can see the black spaces in between so
again that's crazy egg calm you can
check it out there and I want to thank

start with one and then keep adding more
over time and you'll see results you'll
see higher conversion rates into your
email list and a better experience for
you as a blog owner and the people who
are subscribed to your site as well
alright so those are the top 10 places
that I have for you now you might find
one that works better for you than
others and my advice to you right now is
just pick one pick one place that you
don't yet have an often form and put it
on there and see what happens you will
increase your conversions and when you
have time you can continue to add more
again one thing at a time that's what i
